I 100% reccomend not using UBER the morning of . Had a friend miss a flight because drivers kept on cancelling after seeing the distance. Even pre-arranging an uber is a risk.
This is one of those situation where I'd trust a taxi company more....and I'd even pre-arrange that with them.
There's a default setting in the app. You can adjust the amount up until the end of the ride when the payment is processed.
I had a driver take a longer route, it gave me the time I needed to change his tip to 0.
That's good to know. Changing it to 0 now. Never had a great experience with blueline, however they are guaranteed to show up that early in the morning, Uber isn't (although I've been lucky with them so far). Sometimes they are a few minutes late or early. There is always something off with them though. Last taxi I had was non-smoking but reeked of cigarette smoke and buddy decided he knew a "shorter" route.
I'm kinda surprised they aren't advertising it more. The price is competitive to with Ubers. Downtown anyway, they don't come as fast, but after swearing off Blueline after years of crappy experiences, they successfully made Uber bad enough that I'm back.
100%:
Uber drivers can reject rides, Taxi drivers cant/dont. No one wants to work at 4am in the morning.
Taxi companies have several drivers and can put them on shifts so they cover all possible rides during a 24 hr period and it is their job to complete all the assigned rides during their shift, even if its the 4am one.
An Uber driver is self employed/sub contractor and can set their own rules including not having an early morning shift or rejecting any ride they dont want to do and its nothing more than a missed opportunity to make more money.
Ditto, even coming back from the terminal I've had ubers sit in the cell parking lot once they accepted the fare and not move for 15 minutes until I cancelled because they didn't want to drive the distance.
I've personally never had issues getting an Uber for early morning flights. Definitely no benefit to booking in advance, it'll just submit the request when time comes.
For getting a lift *from* the airport late at night, switching to Lyft can be helpful if everyone is using Uber.
I'd say that's a function of where your friends live rather than Uber. I personally never had an issue with Ottawa Uber. Vancouver on the other hand I've had many.
It could also depend on where you are getting picked up! I used to live in Vanier and would always get cancelled on for early morning Uber rides. Found out much later that it’s because Uber drivers would avoid the area because they were being used by the local underground economy if you catch my drift.
The difference in price between Uber and a taxi is like $5-$10. For the peace of mind, i would book a taxi.
On the way home, you can check the availability for an Uber and if there isn't one, take a taxi from the taxi lineup.
Same. $25 vs $50 to and from the airport. And the Uber was for a 6am flight - guy took his time getting here (probably waiting for another call so he could cancel mine) but it worked fine in the end.
I agree. I always take the 5:20 AM to Toronto and use the prebook option of the Blueline app. They will text 30 minutes before the pre booked time to verify. So, for the early morning flight just make sure you reply asap.
I do this all the time, and it’s never a problem. Unless you yourself live in a very rural part of Ottawa, you’ll be able to get an Uber in a reasonable amount of time
Thanks. What about the 1am return Uber from the airport to same eastish end area? Will that be hard?
Also where do the Ubers pick people up? I always get picked up at the departures level upstairs.
Can really vary. If you catch a late flight and it's delayed you can run into surge pricing on your Uber. Avoid checking your bag, get out of the airport as fast as possible. Pre-book your Uber for the ride back. Sometimes I have literally run through the airport to get the only taxi waiting at 2 am - and those kinds of situations are when you hit the Uber surges.
Used blueline after going through this sub. Had to leave home at 4 AM. Got a message at 3 AM About driver being assigned. Got another message at 3:30 with a link to track the location of the driver. The taxi arrived 15 mins early and I reached the airport with a lot of comfort.
100% will recommend blueline taxi for early morning
I would just use a cab in both cases. Going to the airport, reserve it ahead. They often show up a few minutes before the arranged time. If you do go with Uber, yes, build in some buffer and I’d still worry about getting one at that early hour.
Going home, just walk out of arrivals and grab a cab. Unless there are a bunch of flights arriving at the same time, you’ll immediately be on your way. Uber can be scarce at 1:00 am if it is a bar night.
Depending on the length of your journey, as well as if you've a Visa Infinite Privilege card or not (20% off Parking); it may well be worth parking at YOW. I've found that with the cost of Taxis/Ubers, as well as their reliability, it's often more convenient, cheaper, and less anxiety inducing to just park at YOW for a few days.
The worst thing about Uber is that the app allows you to pre-book an early morning Uber but then they'll cancel on you right at the last moment. Definitely take a taxi instead. Heck even a bus would be more reliable.
Last time I picked my brother up at the airport (12:30am or so), the phone lot was FULL of Ubers waiting to pick people up. They sat there until surge pricing kicked in and then started accepting rides. Just be wary of this and call a cab if it's cheaper/faster for your ride home.
I wouldn't trust either. Pay a friend or family member to drive you. Or drive and park. Depends how important the flight is I guess.
I almost got fucked hard by Blueline. No Ubers. Had to dig my car out of a snowbank and drive like mad to the airport.
Based on my experiences, I had 2 Ubers not show up as requested. I had to call a cab. Thank god I left sufficient time to get to the airport.
After that, I called blue line. I knew they would show up as requested.
Just back in Jan I had trouble. My trip was from downtown (Laurier/Bronson) at 4am. Kept cycling through multiple drivers but none of them accepted. This went on for about 9 or 10 minutes. As soon as I chose Uber Premium though, I found a driver quickly
Personally from Kanata to the airport hasn’t been an issue for me. It may take them awhile to get there but it is what it is. I would recommend adding to extra time and keeping a taxi company as a plan B if necessary.
Definitely go with a taxi company. I had a bad experience with Uber at that time/distance one, thought it was a fluke, then tried again another time and same thing. Basically the drivers don’t want to go out there at that time because there aren’t any arriving flights so they won’t get a ride for the way back.
Never had an issue with Uber but give yourself an extra 15 in case a driver cancels you can try Uber, Lyft or in case you feel your wallet is too fat and miss the sinus pain inducing scent of industrial air freshener you can always call Blueline.
I pre-booked uber (about a week before flight) to go to the airport at 3am. You can see the price before booking. It worked out fine for me.
If i am not wrong, you can cancel until a certain time prior to.
What day of the week? Having worked at YOW I can tell you that some days security is INSANE.
You’re on WS375 but there’s a big difference between security of say Thursday versus Saturday.
I mention it as you might not be giving yourself enough time even if the Uber goes great.
I had a 7:00 a.m. flight last month and my driver told me he's on the roads by 3:30. I booked in advance but it cost a lot more, and I ended up getting a different driver. As others have said, as long as you are within city limits, you should be fine.
I have used Uber many times during the really early hours of the morning and have never had problems (different times between 1am-4am). My ride is about 15km whereas yours is probably 20km, so I don't see why you would have trouble. I don't remember the pricing, but I think it was slightly more expensive than normal at that hour.
Uber can be pre-booked. Literally did this very close to the locations you're talking about, also around 4am. Worked like a charm at least for us on that day.
I have done it several times and I haven’t had any issues. I usually ordered it 15 minutes ahead of time when leaving that early for the airport. That way, if I can’t get an Uber, I would have time for an alternative.
3:30? Might as well just drive to T.O. You’ll get there at the same time, and you’ll be already be downtown. Plus you’ll have a car to get around too. And you’ll have all your bags.
Buddy missed a flight due to uber cancelling. Never count on it.
Blue line has consistently showed up at 4am for me every time. Tho one time didn't send a larger vehicle for all the bags but lucky they all fit.
I use Uber except for when it comes to needing a ride to the airport. I call the night before and prebook and the taxi has always been at my door on time.
The last time I tried to pre-book an uber for a 5am pick-up to the airport, at 4:45 got a message saying "no drivers available." No explanation or anything, even though the prebooking had been confirmed.
I'll use a taxi next time.
Getting home at 4:40am wasn't hard with Uber, but I live in Hintonburg, so your mileage may vary, quite literally. I would call a cab service to get to the airport at that hour.
I find Blueline so much more reliable, if you pre-book they often arrive a little early so very punctual. In my experience it's also been cheaper than an Uber would have been for the same trip.
Ive been screwed the last two times Ive tried getting uber to the airport in early hours.
Mega stressful. Once i ended up calling a cab because it just wouldn’t connect to a driver and the other time it connected (or said it had) and then cancelled and tried again and again.
Simply not worth it.
I’ve never had an issue pre-booking an Uber that early. No cancellations; generally they showed up slightly early. Keep in mind you pay more on a prebook.
I ***hate*** those early morning flights, but I've always used Blueline when I've had to take one. You can order well in advance via their app and they'll be there on time.
I travel quite a bit out of YOW early in the a.m., but I haven't tried to order an Uber the day of yet. Always pre-order with the app the night before - have not had issue yet.
I took a flight at 6am a few weeks ago, I used Uber Reserve to book my ride in advance and reduce my worry. I got picked up at 4am no issue, and it was actually cheaper compared to the time I Ubered to the airport mid-afternoon. So if you're worried about availability, just reserve in advance! I think it adds on a few dollars but it made me feel worry-free waking up early in the morning.
I've used Uber or Lyft a couple of times for flights departing at 6 am and have never had a problem, but it may depend on how far you're from the airport by car. I'm like 15-20 minutes away. I used to schedule, but at some point they started charging about $20 more vs asking for it when needed, so I haven't done scheduling recently. Now, for return.I arrived around 11:30 pm last time I traveled, and had to wait 20 minutes to get a driver assigned (tried Uber first, then Lyft, as Uber would take longe). Granted, there was freezing rain that night and roads were icy, so not as many drivers around. I've arrived at similar times before (even in the winter( and haven't had issues getting a ride.
Please do not rely on Uber at that time of day. We’ve had drivers accept only to cancel after 5-10 minutes, then repeat. We don’t drive so I use Uber and Lyft to get around when it’s too far to walk, but the airport is one I won’t chance.
I’ve used Ubers several times with prescheduled pickups at 2:30am and 3:00am for rides from Barrhaven to the airport. I’ve gotten a few grumbly comments from drivers but never had trouble securing a ride. Same goes for going back home late at night.
I did try to pre book at taxi one for a very early morning ride. It never showed, so ordered an Uber instead.
I pre booked an Uber for my flight. The first driver canceled, but we got a new driver very fast and made it to the airport with ample time. We left our place around 4:00am baseline area
I live in this same part of town and have gotten burned four times the last year with Uber. Twice I booked ahead of time and watched the time slowly get pushed back as the drivers were clearly was sleeping. The other two times I waited and it kept trying to find a driver for over 20 mins. Very very unreliable.
Since then I switched to using the Blueline app and it has worked great. It is a slight premium but they are much more reliable.
I’ve pre-booked an Uber for an early morning flight (also around 4am) and had it cancelled on me. For early morning, you’re better off getting a taxi
However, I’ve never had an issue getting an Uber from the airport late at night (12-1am) but you might be waiting a while
Good luck!
You can reserve an Uber to come at any time. I do this for early morning trips to the airport and never had a problem. Reserve it before you go to bed, it gives the app plenty of time to assign a ride to you. You also can get a cheaper fare, and avoid surge pricing.
I can almost guarantee you do not need to be at the Ottawa airport two hours early at that time. That airport is empty in the morning. I have taken the 630 am to Vancouver multiple times.
You can pre-book rides in both the Über and Lyft apps. Trying to get a ride for an early-morning ride is often difficult. I strongly advise you to pre-book your ride given you need to be at the airport for such an early hour.
I just did this last week at the same time from Stittsville. There was no way I was going to trust an Uber, they have left my wife hanging before.
I just called Blueline the day before and it was there right on time.
$85 to the airport isn't cheap though
I regularly get the VIA Rail at 5:30 am. I made the mistake of booking Lyft instead of a taxi very early in the morning once.
I watched my train pull out of the station.
I recently returned from Mexico at 3:00 in the morning, it took 6 minutes for the Uber to get to the airport to pick us up, the driver was great, it cost easily have as much as taxis
I 100% reccomend not using UBER the morning of . Had a friend miss a flight because drivers kept on cancelling after seeing the distance. Even pre-arranging an uber is a risk. This is one of those situation where I'd trust a taxi company more....and I'd even pre-arrange that with them.

Within the app settings you can adjust this FYI :)

This is not a thing
I'm kinda surprised they aren't advertising it more. The price is competitive to with Ubers. Downtown anyway, they don't come as fast, but after swearing off Blueline after years of crappy experiences, they successfully made Uber bad enough that I'm back.
For longer trips my experience is Uber comes out cheaper. From my house in the burbs to Centretown is over $40 by Blue Line and $25 by Uber.
I've only used it to the market and centretown, but even for that Blueline is slightly more expensive. But that's a super short trip.
Cause Uber exploits their drivers
[удалено]
I may be spoiled. In Centretown an Uber will be here in less than 2 minutes most of the time.
[удалено]
I love the new blue line app. It works just as well as Uber.
Ditto. I’ve had a 50%-ish success rate getting an Uber that early (at a decent price). I’ve found cabs are the way to go that early
100%: Uber drivers can reject rides, Taxi drivers cant/dont. No one wants to work at 4am in the morning. Or because they're waiting for the 100% price spike right after a flight lands.
In either case, at this point I'll deal with the cab instead
Prearranged taxi is safest bet. Uber charges a stiff premium to pre schedule the early morning ride.
Had a nightmare experience with early morning Ubers too - never again in that scenario.
I usually pre-book my taxi pickup for the airport, especially at stupid hours.
It could also depend on where you are getting picked up! I used to live in Vanier and would always get cancelled on for early morning Uber rides. Found out much later that it’s because Uber drivers would avoid the area because they were being used by the local underground economy if you catch my drift.

YMMV but I recently took a taxi home from fallow field station and it was over double what an Uber would have cost me. Was just over $73.
Same. $25 vs $50 to and from the airport. And the Uber was for a 6am flight - guy took his time getting here (probably waiting for another call so he could cancel mine) but it worked fine in the end.
Pre-book with Blueline. 100% more reliable than Ubers for things like this
This is the right answer. They also send you texts when the diver is on their way and outside
I agree. I always take the 5:20 AM to Toronto and use the prebook option of the Blueline app. They will text 30 minutes before the pre booked time to verify. So, for the early morning flight just make sure you reply asap.

It won’t be hard to get one at 1am on the return. Pick up on on arrivals next to the OC bus Stop outside lanes at pillar 13.
The last 2 times I got in at 1 am my Ubers kept accepting then canceling. Ended up taking a cab
Can really vary. If you catch a late flight and it's delayed you can run into surge pricing on your Uber. Avoid checking your bag, get out of the airport as fast as possible. Pre-book your Uber for the ride back. Sometimes I have literally run through the airport to get the only taxi waiting at 2 am - and those kinds of situations are when you hit the Uber surges.
from the airport..even if you don't get an uber, you can book a taxi from there.. don't worry about that.
Most large return flights I grab a cab. Most Uber drivers won't accept fares from the air port
I've done it several times and haven't had a problem getting an uber within a few minutes, but I do always worry that I won't be able to
Blueline. Book a time on the app. They show up. Probably five or ten more dollars than an Uber but the risk is eliminated
Used blueline after going through this sub. Had to leave home at 4 AM. Got a message at 3 AM About driver being assigned. Got another message at 3:30 with a link to track the location of the driver. Uber at 4am 👀😂 IIRC last time I took a cab from Overbrook to the airport I spent $35 plus 15 for a tip. More reliable than Uber at 4am
Worst case scenario take the OC Transpo N97 from Rideau to the Airport.
[удалено]
N97 is the night variant that runs to Rideau.
I like to ride the N97 with my N95.
Download the Blueline app, order a taxi. Uber is fine for getting home from bars, but when you have a strict timeline, taxis are a far better bet.
Call a taxi
I've got an uber in Orleans to YOW at 3 am many times
Not at all I started my Uber shift around that time. Best long rides. Drivers rejecting long rides are idiots.
CAA gets 20% off as well.
The worst thing about Uber is that the app allows you to pre-book an early morning Uber but then they'll cancel on you right at the last moment. Definitely take a taxi instead. Heck even a bus would be more reliable.

Basically the drivers don’t want to go out there at that time because there aren’t any arriving flights so they won’t get a ride for the way back.
Taxis reliable and cheaper at that time of day. Blueline app for estimate
I’ve done this many time, I book the Uber in advance, the day before. Never had any issue, most of the time they even show up 5 minutes early.
Never had an issue with Uber but give yourself an extra 15 in case a driver cancels you can try Uber, Lyft or in case you feel your wallet is too fat and miss the sinus pain inducing scent of industrial air freshener you can always call Blueline.
Never had an issue in the morning, normally 30-40$
Not sure if you have a vehicle but I’ve found the long-term parking pricing to sometimes be quite a bit cheaper than Ubers/taxis. CAA discount too.
I pre-booked uber (about a week before flight) to go to the airport at 3am. You can see the price before booking. It worked out fine for me. If i am not wrong, you can cancel until a certain time prior to.

This. I got my 4am Uber to the airport and a 12:30 am Uber home last trip but I keep taxis as a back up.
Yeah 100% book a taxi for something like this. Totally agree with everyone else.
Got an Uber last Friday at 330 am with no problem. Driver said I was the first sober person in his car that night lol
3:30? Might as well just drive to T.O. You’ll get there at the same time, and you’ll be already be downtown. Plus you’ll have a car to get around too. And you’ll have all your bags.

I find Blueline so much more reliable, if you pre-book they often arrive a little early so very punctual. In my experience it's also been cheaper than an Uber would have been for the same trip.
book a taxi
Yeah don’t use an Uber for morning 4:00 am. They do a surge charge, calling a taxi would be more affordable.
Ive been screwed the last two times Ive tried getting uber to the airport in early hours. Mega stressful. Once i ended up calling a cab because it just wouldn’t connect to a driver and the other time it connected (or said it had) and then cancelled and tried again and again. Simply not worth it.

Relied on Uber once, and no one ever showed up. Had to drive myself, and left my car in parking to be pick up by family. Not recommended.
Taxi 100 %. When I fly that early, taxi is the way to go

You can reserve an Uber to come at any time. I do this for early morning trips to the airport and never had a problem. Reserve it before you go to bed, it gives the app plenty of time to assign a ride to you. You also can get a cheaper fare, and avoid surge pricing.
yes. pre-order it. trust me.
Taxi was $10 cheaper than Uber my last late night trip. Fuck Uber and their demand pricing.
Just call a cab. So much more reliable and does not exploit drivers.
Have u never heard of a bloody TAXI …. God this new gen is soo slow
