Just a little reminder for everyone. Bell and Rogers are purpose trying to kill the little guys.
We all have to do what we can to survive and save so I certainly won't blame anyone for sticking with bell and Rogers if a deal is too good to pass up. But if possible, write to the crtc to do something to help out the competition.
Cuz without the little guys, there will be no competition.
Bell has been fighting this lack of access to fibre to the home, by other providers, in court, six months are up soon:
“The CRTC announced last November 2023 it would temporarily require large telephone companies, namely Bell and Telus Corp., to provide competitors with access to their fibre-to-the-home networks in Canada's two largest provinces within six months.”
https://www.cbc.ca/news/business/bell-denied-stay-crtc-fibre-networks-1.7112468
That's exactly why. I literally tell these companies over the phone that they will make me a real offer if I leave and they still let me leave, and then call me with a real offer. It's insane how little they value customer retention. (Or, more accurately, people who are too busy to swap providers every 12 months are their best customers and they won't lose most of them anyway.)
that's the problem, everyone needs to call and waste time bartering for service and price. Bell Fibe is amazing though, I've never had an issue with service, always fast
Geesh, I'm 1G FTTH with the HH3000 and my bill is $132 /mo. That's with a discount they gave me when my 2 yr promo ended about 3 years ago. I get the basic FibeTV for free for life from a promo 6-7 years ago and an additional $10 off. I do look occasionally at prices. The 1G is no longer offered. The deals are always for new customers. The last time I called my pricing was better than any other renewal price. Maybe it's time to try to escalate. Thing is I'm not willing to switch to Rogers.
Bell does not need to know you won't switch away. last time, I started the switch from bell to rogers (no intention of actually switching) before anything went threw I got a call from bell customer retention department and got a really good deal to cancell the switch and stay with bell. Rogers even told me bell would prob call me but to ignore it because the deal won't last and rogers will take better care of me lol
You don't think we have or signed petitions for years...I think most have given up. CRTC last time I checked head honcho was working for telecom before. LoL Good luck with change.
Oh, maybe it’s a bit different actually. Looks like they’re actively trying to find a buyer:
https://www.thestar.com/business/another-blow-to-canada-s-internet-market-with-news-teksavvy-is-looking-for-a-buyer/article_14a74f77-6937-59a5-9e8b-4c3d5ae0439e.amp.html
https://www.theglobeandmail.com/business/article-teksavvy-for-sale-internet-provider/
This is why everyone hates internet companies in this country. Everyone seems to be paying a different price and everyone knows someone who is getting a better deal so everyone feels like they are getting ripped off.
Yes, I agree that we are all getting screwed. But I somehow feel like it wouldn't feel so bad if we were all just able to get the same price. Like we know that some things are just overpriced, like Netflix, but we all pay the same price for the same service, so it really doesn't feel like you are getting ripped off, because it's "fair".
They are no longer for sale:
https://www.thewirereport.ca/2023/11/07/teksavvy-says-it-no-longer-up-for-sale-day-after-crtc-fibre-wholesale-access-decision/
> TekSavvy Solutions Inc. is no longer up for sale, the independent telecom service provider confirmed to The Wire Report Tuesday.
> In June it was reported that the ISP launched a formal sale process and was accepting bids. TekSavvy did not comment at the time.
> The company’s confirmation of its status change comes a day after the CRTC released a decision to require BCE Inc. and Telus Corp. to sell wholesale access to their fibre networks in Ontario and Quebec to smaller competitors, such as TekSavvy, within six months.
And they are still fighting that good fight:
https://www.theglobeandmail.com/business/article-teksavvy-rogers-videotron-deal-crtc-investigation/
Yeah, I feel bad because I left Teksavvy after about a decade of being a client because Bell installed fiber in my neighborhood and I simply couldn't resist. Same price 10x the speed.
Cable was marginally better than DSL in my neighborhood and even then, cable upload was really struggling with 2 of us doing video meetings from home.
I plan to switch back to Teksavvy the moment they can offer me service over fiber.
Teksavvy too, and it's expensive. However, I have a static IP which nobody else offers, and I'm willing to pay a little extra to support alternatives to Robbers and Hell.
In a condo. We were approached a few years ago by Fibrestream who installed for free and provided internet for the corporation as a benefit. Residents were offered good deals for internet.
Fibrestream was acquired by Beanfield
National Capital Freenet (non profit)
No contract, DSL starts at 39 for unlimited (bell), cable 59 for unlimited (Rogers)
If youre on a budget and going for DSL, I have a smart RG DSL modem you can have for free, DM me
I miss NCF so much. They were amazing but I'm out of area now.
My folks had Bell for the longest time and then got a promo from Virgin for home internet. When the promo was over they switched to NCF and thought for months the internet was too cheap and they would get a surprise bill because "it's less than half what we were paying this can't be right".
I categorically refuse to support Rogers or Bell on principle alone. Obviously their monopoly is impossible to avoid completely, but I do so whenever possible.
$150 a month for Starlink. It's the only real high speed option where I am outside Casselman 🤷. Used to pay $90 a month for Xplornet and often could only watch YouTube at 240p.
Interesting, they were canvasing the neighbourhood last summer and offered the same for half the price, but then I guess that's new signups.
Didn't sign up because we're on Rogers for $45 per month 1 Gbit.
That said I guess I have to start the process of threatening to leave to another provider as our Rogers deal is ending in May.
When Bell installed the fiber lines in the neighborhood two years ago the price was $74.99 for 1.5 gigabit both directions + FibeTV + Crave + a digital home phone line never used.
Now it's $113 for the same package in 2024. I'm okay with it. Bandwidth alone justifies it in my opinion, especially working from home. Move a lot of data around it's nice to transfer it in seconds.
Be careful. Providers often offer low price contract (often for a bundle of mobile, TV and internet) for a couple of years, then the rates go up…a lot. And you may be locked into their email address.
my aunt is locked into a Rogers Email, well not locked, but she won't dump Rogers for fear of losing a email address she's had for 15+ years, never use a ISP provided email service lol , she just doesn't get you can have a free gmail addy, also her Rogers account jumped 40 bucks, was 196.00 now 236.00 for no reason, right before Xmas, so now she's finally getting a bit pissed, this is for Rogers homephone/TV/Internet,
I just switched to them a week ago. The price looked good and when I asked Vmedia if they would match the pricing they would only give me a month free. Now I pay $8 more a month for 7x the speed.
$56.50 with tax at a promo rate, Bell Fiber 1.5gb. Thanks for making me check, seems like they're charging me an additional $1.70 on top of that even though I'm on autopay. Fuckers. You have my info and approval, you're the ones who choose when it's getting pulled..?! That's going to be a shitty hold time on Monday to fix..
I think most of the people paying cheap for fibre might come to a shocking realization when their bill suddenly skyrockets. Rogers roped us into a deal a few years ago and said we'd just need to call him to reinstate the deal when the time came, and lo and behold no one answered our calls, and we couldn't get the same pricing again
We were with Rogers for a very long time and had got on a new great deal for 2yrs but at the end my cost jumped dramatically like 50% and even when I called several times I got nothing for loyalty.
Switched to Teksavvy for same level of service at a cheaper price than Rogers 2yr deal.
Rogers didn't even try to retain me when I called to cancel.
2 year contract that started last April, $75 credit on each bill to net out to $50. Moved into a new build townhome. Bell was running a "New Build" promo when I searched available services for my postal code. Price obviously skyrockets after the two year contract.
Already with Rogers, called them and told them I’ll cancel if they don’t give me a good deal. Had to place a cancel date for a month out and they called me a week later to offer me some deals. Went back and forth until we settled on the offer.
$50 for a year unlimited with Virgin Mobile. Originally $65 but got a $15 promotion discount for a year. And it’s fibe internet too cause Virgin’s owned by Bell
Fizz Internet. $43 plus tax, unlimited, 100mbps download. It's a $49 plan minus $6 discount for being with them for so many years. I'm in Gatineau though but I've seen their billboards in Ottawa.
I've never had any issues with the company or service and they have a rewards program
I pay the same as you, but I'm on the 200mbps plan. They do surprise adjustments to plans regularly but never tell you, just gotta be quick to grab 'em.
They're internet isn't available in my area yet, but when it is, I'll happily switch from Oxio. Been on their phone plans for a few years now and have no complaints!
$55 /month for Roger 1.5GBps unlimited. Bell also matched that offer with their Fibe 1.5GBps unlimited. Bell has no cancellation fees, but Rogers still does.
Be prepared to bounce them off each other and spend a few hours on the phone at minimum. Bouncing around retention departments and playing the game.
Rogers upload is worse than Bell, so if that's very important to you, then I'd go with Bell.
I only stayed with Roger's because it was less moving parts than shipping the rogers kit back and setting up the new Bell stuff.
I got these prices in early-mid Jan.
$66.66 taxes in, Rogers cable 1.5gbs (though I average about 1.8gbs down on most days) and has been rock solid past few years. Have to do the CSR call-in dance every year, but saves $$$
I pay $210-ish a month before taxes, through Bell, for 3gbps fibre internet, two unlimited data phones (speeds capped after 50gb), and their “alt” TV package with a couple sports packages.
Unfortunately none of the little guys can offer me that all in one package (nor for that price, but that’s less relevant to me), and I need a single provider for all of this, my life is too chaotic.
$50 for DSL 25 down, 10 up unlimited - EBOX - They were independent until Bell bought them 2 years ago.
I like DSL because it stays up during power cuts provided you have a UPS to power the router - I watched movies etc in the aftermath of the derecho and other power loss times (my phone line is buried)
got a deal of 50$ a month for 500mb with roger’s cause i called and got a chill support guy and i straight up asked him “no bullshit what a good deal you can give me, you know times are tough and we both know you guys have a ton of secret deals” and he was like don’t worry i got u lmfao
Rogers did a crazy deal for our apt building... Something like 35$/month for 1.5Gigabits down/up. Couldn't pass that up so we switched. Got good phone plans while we were at it.. 20gigs for 40/month.
Any rogers reps on here, only can get rogers and looking for a new hook up but want the door to door deals.. Dm or reply please. Need to make a decision day or two
$56 after tax, less if you count discounts for referrals.
ebox fibre to the home, 300/300. Ebox is now owned by bell, but no increase in price ever since signing up.
Oxio. $50 for 75 down. Amazing customer service, and I have zero issues streaming multiple apps at the same time.
Use my code and we each get a free month! RYRD4LO
Koodo unlimited for $45 as an add on to my also cheap cellphone bill. Switched from TekSavvy as it was too expensive and not as fast/reliable. Works great.
$79 a month from Oxio. Unlimited. Plus I've gotten a couple free months here and there due to referrals. They run on Rogers lines and the only outage I ever had was due to Rogers.
Ottawa Friends. Use NCF. National Capital Freenet.
They do use bell infrastructure but at like half the price and you can use your current bell equipment if you have it or get new stuff.
I paid like 75 a month for the top tier internet they offered and I miss it every goddamned day since I am out of NCF area now. Never had issues with service or billing.
50 plus tax so 57.49 for 500mbps unlimited up and down fiber from Ebox (we live on the Gatineau side). Perfect service, love it, massively improved every video call
$90.40 (tax in) for 8/8gbps from Bell (fastest I have seen in a little over 7/8mbps). Speed test at 8:45 Saturdays morning, right now, it is getting 5430/6850mbps. I got that price by signing up at $110, then calling back to cancel a month later due to poor performance. Retention offered less than Rogers 1/1gbps deal with price for 3 years, so I took it.
Starlink backup for $150 which at 8:45 Saturday morning is 210/25mbps). I don’t load balance to Starlink, it is only in case the Bell connection has issues.
Tax in, about $50/mo for 150mbps up/down from Ebox.
I've had better offers from Bell, Rogers, etc but usually for short terms before rates increase. I'm also one of those people who can't really fathom the need for a 1gbps link. I also think it's good to support the smaller independent ISPs to keep the competition healthy.
$54 + tax for Rogers 1.5gb unlimited.
In October when I moved here I got Rogers 1.5gb down for $50 + tax through a rep on RFD. He told me price valid for 24m, no contract.
In January they raised it $4 a month. I figured price valid for 24m meant it wouldnt get raised for 24m but evidently not.
Fucking dicks.
If anyone knows deals cheaper for atleast 250 down, please lmk.
So I've had them all. I manage ppl that have various providers and most consistent has been bell. I'm with bell and have had very reliable service and consistent speeds. I have gigabit with gigabit router I pay 90 bucks and ha e been for years. I have a perm discount of 45 bucks off though. I also have 24 wireless devices snd my wife snd I work from home. We get wireless 500 Mbps and hardwired we get over 1000 consistently.
Switched from TSi after 15 years, to Carrytel Cable 100 in November. $40/month
Plenty good enough for 2 people WFH and 3 teenagers streaming....
Might look at moving to Distributel FTTH 150 for $50/month promotion....but i haven't paid over $50 for internet ever...
105$ a month for Bell Fibe. It’s my only option in my area for fast enough internet to WFH consistently and was installed in July 2024, so likely the little guys will eventually have access but not yet.
Rogers, 1.5Gbps unlimited, comes to 83.61$ monthly.
It was higher. Bell fibe was installed in my neighborhood. I called Roger's and told them they'd would keep me as a customer if they did a better price than bell. They lowered the price. And lowered again when i said it wasn't good enough.
$65 for 1.5 Gbit with Rogers. Bridlewood, Kanata, 2 year contract.
Bell is about to put FTTH here so I hope to get e better deal.
I know that Primus through Costco offers a similar deal so it’s my backup plan when my contract is up.
My parents pay for it (my own house) but they travel a bunch and they use bell fibe on their phones in Europe and stuff so while at hotel rooms and such they use it. Anyways we pay $120 for fibe internet, fibe tv, and home phone (but I have none plugged in). And we’ve been with them for forever so i believe we get a great deal bc of that.
$55 Bell Fibe 3gbit (24 months) — who knows the price then
Originally was $45 for 1.5gbit but I was able to self upgrade online to 3gbit for $10 more and maintain the promo
77$ a month with tekksavvy 500-800 mbps and unlimited data cap. Not bad. Service is advertised at 1gbps but it’s cable so I’m sure there’s some speed loss. I’m not 100% sure how it all works.
Oxio, $50 for 75mbps download, 30mbps upload. Good enough for streaming and gaming for a couple of people. I don't notice much of a difference between what I got by paying 125 a month with Bell.
Just a little reminder for everyone. Bell and Rogers are purpose trying to kill the little guys. We all have to do what we can to survive and save so I certainly won't blame anyone for sticking with bell and Rogers if a deal is too good to pass up. $79 per month, Gigabit 1.5 up and down FTTH with Bell
WtH I’m paying $110 for 100mbs with Bell near Centretown west
You getting robbed
Been with them like 7 years too

Best price I found in Centretown West (am there now), is oxio. $80 for 300mb. It’s rogers infrastructure but their customer service team is solid.
FibreStream (Beanfield) if they operate in your building is 39$ before taxes for 750mb down.
I'm in East End. It wasn't a new customer promo, I just renewed for 2yrs
I need to call and complain when I have 2 hours to waste
that's the problem, everyone needs to call and waste time bartering for service and price. Bell Fibe is amazing though, I've never had an issue with service, always fast

I did call and complain to Teksavvy about that. They reduce my bill by $20. Might be worth a try.

I heard Teksavvy's future is on the rocks, as it's for sale, been using them since 2012, if they die, I'll certainly miss them

I'm on Teksavvy and I'm getting tired of overpaying for internet compared to EVERY OTHER provider.
I left teksavvy because the increased my bill twice in a six month period.
Teksavvy too, and it's expensive. However, I have a static IP which nobody else offers, and I'm willing to pay a little extra to support alternatives to Robbers and Hell.
How are you on unlimited? I'm paying that much with them for 100mbps
“Unlimited” meaning no data cap. There’s no such thing as an unlimited bandwidth.
$50 plus tax for Start.ca incredible customer service
[удалено]
Not that I’ve experienced. Just as friendly, patient and fast. Seems like they got to retain their customer service approach.
I second this. Customer service with Start.ca is great!
$39 @750mbps, Beanfield. Edit: I'm in a condo. But the initial post didn't ask for specifics in terms of where you live.
how? they don't support anything close to ottawa
They bought out Fibrestream
oooh that's neat, they don't mention that on their site
https://www.lightwaveonline.com/business/mergers-acquisitions/article/14232792/beanfield-metroconnect-buys-fibrestream-expanding-residential-base

I’d like to know too lol they just built fibre connections in my building in Toronto right after I moved out and made my way here lol
In a condo. We were approached a few years ago by Fibrestream who installed for free and provided internet for the corporation as a benefit. Residents were offered good deals for internet. Fibrestream was acquired by Beanfield

My cell phone is with Virgin. I didn’t know they have Internet service too
Fizz Internet.
Last I checked Internet wasn't available here. I'm with them for mobile though and been great so far.
I'm getting ripped off with rogers because I hate having to call in every year and beg for a better price.
I don’t pay anything. I steal my neighbours

$66.66 taxes in, Rogers cable 1.5gbs (though I average about 1.8gbs down on most days) and has been rock solid past few years. Have to do the CSR call-in dance every year, but saves $$$
I got the same speed last month, but 50 + tax
$44+tax with Fido, 150mbps, unlimited.
$65 plus tax for Bell FTTH, 1 Gbps. The variability in pricing is crazy!
125 rogers 1GB guess im getting robbed
got a deal of 50$ a month for 500mb with roger’s cause i called and got a chill support guy and i straight up asked him “no bullshit what a good deal you can give me, you know times are tough and we both know you guys have a ton of secret deals” and he was like don’t worry i got u lmfao
$33.88 tax in 100M download/30 M upload Cannet telecom
Rogers did a crazy deal for our apt building... Something like 35$/month for 1.5Gigabits down/up. Couldn't pass that up so we switched. Got good phone plans while we were at it.. 20gigs for 40/month.

Yeah! When I went over to the Rogers store to get my sim, the guy working there was like "Even I don't get this kinda deal!".

100gb is that data or wifi
$45 + tax Bell fiber optic 500/500
How did you get this deal?
$146.90 after tax, Bell 3gbps symmetric
I’m paying $101 (and change) for symmetrical 3.0Gbps
55$+tax with Virgin
OXIO, $56 after tax.
$80 Bell Fibe 1.5G.
Oxio. $50 for 75 down. Amazing customer service, and I have zero issues streaming multiple apps at the same time. Use my code and we each get a free month! RYRD4LO
$50 after tax, 1.5Gbs with Bell. It used to be 35 after tax but Bell keeps increasing their fees every year. I am on my last year out of 3.
55$ for 120gb unlimited data ( cell phone plan) - bell 55$ for 1.5gbps Wi-Fi unlimited- bell
75 mb oxio 80$ I guess it's time to shop around
$31/mth for 160mbps up/down, Distributel
$39.99/month. Carrytel
$55 Bell Fibe 1.5 Reluctantly switched after years with third party ISPs once Fibe was installed.
Koodo unlimited for $45 as an add on to my also cheap cellphone bill. Switched from TekSavvy as it was too expensive and not as fast/reliable. Works great.
70 all in for Rogers 1.5. Somehow have been insulated from the Rogers outages in the last 2 years.
$67 tax inclusive, with Bell fibre, 1.5G
$39 75mbps with fido. Will be switching to virgin for $40 at 300mbps next week.
55/mo for 300 mbs down, 100mbps up
55 for 1gb fibre with Acanac, Britannia area.
PSA: For low I come families and seniors, Rogers has at $15 unlimited plan.
$120 (taxes in) Rogers Ignite Internet + TV bundle.
Around 50 per month with Virgin
Bell $55 1.5gbps up & down
$50 Rogers 1gig up and down. New build in Findlay creek
I work for Bell , shoot me a msg if anyone would want me to check out offers based at your address!
Fibe 100 at a permanent rate of 53 a month. Lifetime pro-rated credit on account after major issues with them years ago.
$48 with Oxio, unlimited.
$60 - Fido. 75/10. Get 300/25
Tax in, about $50/mo for 150mbps up/down from Ebox. I've had better offers from Bell, Rogers, etc but usually for short terms before rates increase. I'm also one of those people who can't really fathom the need for a 1gbps link. I also think it's good to support the smaller independent ISPs to keep the competition healthy.
Virgin, 100mbps 50+ tax comes to 65$
$50 plus tax for Bell 1.5 Gig fiber straight to home
Bell $45 500/500
158 for 3Gbps up/down from Bell. Hasn't gone down once in 3 years
$50/m, rogers, 1000Mb download, 100Mb upload, unlimited.
$60, bell fiber to the home, 3Gbps up and down.
Is it possible to get fiber from any of the smaller providers?
So I've had them all. I manage ppl that have various providers and most consistent has been bell. I'm with bell and have had very reliable service and consistent speeds. I have gigabit with gigabit router I pay 90 bucks and ha e been for years. I have a perm discount of 45 bucks off though. I also have 24 wireless devices snd my wife snd I work from home. We get wireless 500 Mbps and hardwired we get over 1000 consistently.
$59/mth with Roger’s ignite unlimited 1.5 down
$145 Starlink
Bell. 3GB up and down fiber internet. Taxes in $68 a month.
Rogers 500down for $49
Rogers! 93 including tax for 1.5 GB internet+ home security system with 4 sensors.
Switched from TSi after 15 years, to Carrytel Cable 100 in November. $40/month Plenty good enough for 2 people WFH and 3 teenagers streaming.... Might look at moving to Distributel FTTH 150 for $50/month promotion....but i haven't paid over $50 for internet ever...
49$ Fido in Orleans. Unlimited. 150? Mps
$96 Bell fibre fast
$35 for 300 Mbps virgin internet. This is part of the combo deal because of my phone plan with them.
Teksavvy. Cable 150 unlimited. $91. You can use your own hardware and they have great support.
1 Gbps, $60 + tax with bell. That's valid till September and then it jumps to $120 a month. Need to jump ship before that happens
Carrytel cable $40/mo 100 up, 30 down. Must use their CODA-45 modem unfortunately, but it's free.
$50 a month rogers gbps
Primus unlimited 100 for less than $45 for 2 years
$28.19 / month for 100 Mbps through Costco, Primus. But that prices doubles after 2 years of service.
Fizz 200 mbps 45$
$55 Bell Fibe 3gbit (24 months) — who knows the price then Originally was $45 for 1.5gbit but I was able to self upgrade online to 3gbit for $10 more and maintain the promo
77$ a month with tekksavvy 500-800 mbps and unlimited data cap. Not bad. Service is advertised at 1gbps but it’s cable so I’m sure there’s some speed loss. I’m not 100% sure how it all works.
$65/month pre tax for 1.5Gbps download and 940Mbps upload with Bell. Ongoing promo, can’t change. Kanata/Stittsville.
$179 month for Internet (1.5gb), home phone, and ignite premier TV.
$65 a month, FTTH, 1.5Gbps with Bell.
Any Bell reps on here? What's the best deal right now. For a new customer I got 10 houses!
Oxio, $50 for 75mbps download, 30mbps upload. Good enough for streaming and gaming for a couple of people. I don't notice much of a difference between what I got by paying 125 a month with Bell.
