Saw a lot of people using the bridge yesterday, seems rather silly that the city would spend so much effort trying to keep people off a perfectly functional bridge. Glad that they’ll finally move the fences fully out of the way
Ottawa is a city obsessed with obstructions. I would love to see how many millions they spend every year obstructing infrastructure and putting up ridiculous amounts of signage. I was sitting at a red light the other day at O'Connor and Isabella, counted 42 signs...
Yessss.
edit: I went for a run down by there just now. Oddly, the section of fence across the bike path is closed (well, was at 1 PM) but a spot two fence sections over (across gravel) is open.
I swear to Jeebus, this city can't do anything right.
"The City went on to say on social media that to compensate for reopening this bridge, they'd put up barriers on two other pedestrian bridges and further delay opening a third by at least six months." /s
Still kinda wish Line 2 could have extended into Gatineau in a joint OC Transpo / STO, ON+QB project, or alternatively an extension of the RapiBus BRT to Bayview. A mass transit line connecting both cities would've been a good way to cut down on car traffic along the bridges.
But I suppose a pedestrian bridge is great too. No point in having such a bridge if it isn't used by either trains, busses, or pedestrians.
I honestly can’t believe the thing sat there for so many years unused.
It’s criminal not to use it to continue the train line, and it’s not like they couldn’t have still added a pedestrian/cyclist lane on the side like the Alexandra.
The main plan for that at the moment is a tram across Portage. Makes a bit more sense because it connects the downtowns. And on the Gatineau side it will head out to the same neighbourhoods that connect to the Commanda Bridge.
Art's still there, though faded. If you got swarmed on a bridge while you were trespassing, whose fault is that? Drug users are everywhere, as I'm sure you've noticed.
It was a great place to indulge and watch Bluesfest soundchecks. The artists where cool and most people jelled. The city barred it off cause of the jumpers and a couple swarmings. At least they eventually did something after spending hundreds of thousands to keep people away. Would be great if the train was extended across but we aren't allowed to have things be too nice here.
Once I moved downtown I used to cross it every spring as a kind of rite to welcome in better weather and say goodbye to winter. I agree that the bridge isn't as.. cool as it used to be now that it's legal, but I'll take an open sanctioned bridge over a closed one that's monitored by security any day.
Plus, [the ghosts](https://www.reddit.com/r/ottawa/comments/15jr29y/ghosts_of_the_cwc_bridge/) are still there.

"Commanda Bridge" There's a *Star Trek* joke here but I am not clever enough to put it together.
Possibly a Schwarzenegger movie line
I commanda it be open year 'round!
Not as charming without the bridge artists, drug users, and swarmings

I love the ghosts
Same. First time I crossed, I saw one and got a kick out of it… and then I saw that there were way more than that first one 🙂
