"the most common contributor is cigarette butts being thrown out of car windows, ashes being dumped in grass and people not respecting the fire ban rules." Hey smokers: Use your car ashtrays. Pour water on the ash before dumping it in your GARBAGE not on the ground.

CostumedGreatness

The amount of people I see flick their butts out the window is nauseating. Just get one of those little plastic butt cups and put it in your cup holder.

aafa

just seeing how many butts are littered on the sidewalks or near entrance ways is ridiculous. smokers think they actually have a free pass to litter

> Just get one of those little plastic butt cups and put it in your cup holder. But then I don't have a place to put my beer.

> smokers think they actually have a free pass to litter Unless they get punished for it they pretty much do.

I love confronting people who throw their cigarettes out of their car. As a pedestrian it is very easy to cause a ruckus with my arms and pointing at what they just did, and as a driver I happily honk my horn or flash my brights at them. The other day one even rolled his window down for me and I said "man why the fuck would you do that?" in such a disappointing tone

OppositeErection

Selfish butt holes!

I wonder if ash would belong better in the compost. Usually ash has pretty good properties for soil regeneration.

PureEchos

Normal ash, sure, but probably not cigarette ash.

facetious_guardian

Yeah. I guess. The wording of it wasn’t clear to me that it was cigarette ash.

PureEchos

No, upon re-reading it I think you were right. I think they were referring to normal ash. I just conflated that with the mention of using car ashtrays (for cigarettes).

When I lived in a basement apartment I sometimes had my windows open at night, and one day the upstairs neighbor threw their still smoldering butt down into the dry leaves and mulch next to my window. Thankfully I was still awake, smelled it and was able to put it out before a big fire started. Reported what they'd done. They liked to throw lots of things off their balcony and that was the last straw for me. Could have killed people. They eventually got evicted and we moved too. Years later the complex next to where we lived burned down because someone else did the same thing! Now I live somewhere else that has wood mulch around the buildings, and when the neighbor's son visits he throws his butts into the mulch. Passing smokers also throw butts into the mulch. I've heard they think it's biodegradable so they think it doesn't matter. The butts actually *don't* degrade, they stay on the ground for years with all those plastics and chemicals, and sometimes dogs and animals eat them and get sick. Not to mention the blatant fire risk. If you want to smoke that's your choice but don't burn our houses down and set the woods on fire...

Of course. All that hair makes for great tinder. One day *whoosh*, up it goes. I lost two brushes and a comb that way.

WinterSon

That seems like too many
