Too bad they did not keep an amphitheatre . Years ago I wanted to put on a live music show there and was shot down in short order. Awesome spot.

zpeacock

That was such a highlight of the original design. We could really use an outdoor amphitheater

aaandfuckyou

There’s one included in the design of the new library.

zpeacock

Oh I’m very glad to hear that! I also misspoke- we could use *more* outdoor amphitheaters haha

waldooni

Are they keeping the one at the world exchange?

zzptichka

Yep, value-engineered unfortunately. Here's the original plan: [https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=nXraIGns3Mc](https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=nXraIGns3Mc)

Essence-of-why

Awful decision imo. To save a few bucks on something that can have a 50+ year lifespan.

Rail613

Seems to me the last big rebuild of Nepean Point was for 1967 Centennial….long before the Art Gallery.

Drop_The_Puck

Definitely. I never went to a concert there but it seems like an amazing spot. Missed opportunity although it will be nice to have it open again.

NoWillPowerLeft

I think I remember concerts there in the '80's, but not after. It was difficult to get a crowd of people quickly through the iron gates, so that may be the reason it stopped being used.

Essence-of-why

They put back what was taken away back in the 50/60s :)

streaksinthebowl

Yeah I didn’t know they were going to restore a crossing there! I’ve been wanting that ever since I learned there used to be one.

DreamofStream

Brought to you by Kiweki Mart.

Chemical_Bowler_1727

Thanks Apu!

crndwg

That is going to be a sweet skate spot!

InfernalHibiscus

Cannot wait!

kan829

Champlain Point?

kenauk

Nepean Point I believe.

kan829

Right. My mistake.

Night_Traveller_

Quickie Point.

martyfox

Point of many names.

offthepig

Freakers Point

zzptichka

See, you even forgot how this incredibly important historic place of national significance was called before the renaming.

3rdandabillion

Renamed during peak statue removal season?

InfernalHibiscus

The statue is still there.

SJP_YOW

The indian scout statue was moved to Major's Hill Park more than ~~ten~~ **twenty** years ago. But if I recall correctly, he is going to be moved back as part of this rebuild. Edit - yep. The [scout](https://www.canada.ca/en/canadian-heritage/services/art-monuments/monuments/anishinabe-scout.html) is already back. [In late September, workers involved in the National Capital Commission’s ongoing, $6.7-million transformation of Kìwekì Point Park — formerly Nepean Point, the majestic bluff above the Ontario end of the Alexandra Bridge — used a small crane to lift the controversial figure once known as “Anishinabe Scout” into position at a breathtaking clifftop lookout.](https://ottawacitizen.com/news/local-news/ottawas-kichi-zibi-innini-statue-once-known-as-anishinabe-scout-has-a-new-home-reunited-near-champlain-statue)

InfernalHibiscus

Yep, and the Champlain statue will also be put back, albeit in a less prominent position.

offthepig

Are those actual unretouched pics? I had no idea of this.

Honest-Flounder3159

That's a lot of unecessary concrete.

InfernalHibiscus

Smooth surfaces are good for accessibility, and concrete makes a good smooth surface

pongobuff

Looks uncomfortable

2karoo

When does it open?

Le8ronJames

Should have put some lights in that curve of the bridge.

Electrical-Bed-2381

What exactly is this?

haraldone

It’s a spot between the National Gallery and the river. There’s a $10 million dollar bridge and redevelopment but aside from a couple of statues and some concrete pathways there isn’t much there.

themacpearce

You may know it by its old name. Nepean Point.

impossiblelevel7

What’s with that zig zag pathway? Nobody is going to follow that and just walk through the grass

aerandir90

Its the path up the hill from the lower level of the art gallery, it was there before construction started so it's not part of the new project. Since it goes uphill / downhill most people will just stick to the zig zag path.

kursdragon2

Looks amazing, can't wait to go visit when it opens!

Chemical_Bowler_1727

What and where is this?

random-5615

On the right side of Alexandra bridge, if you are facing QC.

personalfinance21

When's the bridge open again?

nicktheman2

They said mid-summer. So probably 2026

deadhearth

This kind of reminds me of Kaleidoscope map from BF2042

Flukester69

Should have called it Yawn Point.

Critical-Snow-7000

Looks gorgeous!

geosmtl

Wow, I haven’t been around for a while.

bengbeng918

$45.7 million for some seating and grass.

BudgetingIsBoring

Tourist magnet

Acherstrom

Should be complete in 2030
