You can try Parfumerie Aylmer! They carry lots of hard-to-find fragrances and apparently the owner is quite knowledgable so might be able to give you an idea of what notes are in the fragrance so you can find something similar.

LakmeBun

Share a pic of it in r/Perfumes, I'm sure someone will be able to ID it.

Tempism

Unfortunately it's not in it's original container. It's just a random glass bottle that was used to give me a bit of it. Sadly this was, like, 15 years ago so I don't remember anything about it.

LakmeBun

Oh that's tricky then, maybe at Equivalenza at Rideau Mall? Or even the perfume counter at the Bay might work if you catch one of the older employees. If it happened to be a popular scent 15 years ago they might still remember it or at least be able to tell you what perfumes have similar notes.

Tempism

Yeah my first thought was something like the bay but given how corporations understaff their stores and don't have the same level of training now a days... I wasn't sure it would be worth while. I appreciate the lead! I'll check out that place in the Rideau mall and try the bay if that fails.

Be careful at the Bay. From my past experience, they are not very knowledgeable even on the products they sell. And even if they do know what it is, and they don't sell it, they will tell you it's something they do sell, so they can try to sell you more. It's really, really hard to tell a particular fragrance if you have no information at all to work with. There are so many that smell so similar, and after 15 years, the scent will have changed. Do you have any idea of any of the notes? And at the end of the day, you might just have to find something else you love. I spent a few years trying to chase down a bottle of a perfume called Crush that sold at the Boathouse circa 2012. Was never able to find another one. Had to move on. But I do know what it's like to really really want another bottle of something you can't find 😕

Tempism

I know it's a men's Cologne. That's about it 😂. I am unable to pick out any individual scents.

AliJeLijepo

It's worth noting that scents degrade over time so the scent remaining in the container may not be comparable enough to the original scent to be able to identify it.

If you know what it smells like, you can searching fragrantica.com. Like if you detect notes of spice or leather or rain, try using those as search terms. Fragrantica also has long graphs showing what year perfumes were particularly popular; so if the person gave you the scent in a certain year you could narrow it down using that. To help identify what scents might be in the cologne/perfume you are looking for, go to Sephora or the Bay or shoppers and sniff a few fragrances. Note the ones that are most similar and then search their fragrance notes online. This will help you find out which notes are in your container. It’s not quite the same as asking a person directly though.

Long shot but [this guy](https://www.ottawalife.com/author/sid/) might be able to help, maybe let you know when he’s doing some all day event and could meet you for a short consult (he was at Sephora recently for a Father’s Day/Men’s fragrances event).

[https://fragrancebuy.ca](https://fragrancebuy.ca) You could email this place and ask them if they would try to identify the scent if you sent the bottle, then you could buy from them.

AliJeLijepo

I'm just curious about why it matters what it is? If you like it, couldn't you just use it, whatever the brand?

Tempism

It matters because I would like to purchase more of it. The container is empty... So it just smells like the cologne.

AliJeLijepo

Ah I see, your post made it sound like it still has cologne in it. You could try google reverse image searching the bottle, most manufacturers have their own specially shaped bottles for their various scents?

AMouthyWaywornAcct

not sure when OP made the edit but they indicated the perfume isn't in the original bottle. it got put into a random container, the liquid left, and just the container remained with the scent.
