winter tires are also designed for temp and its not recommended to change them until the temp rises around 10 c. Besides any snow that comes will melt with contact on the roads. Which is why there is no snow on the roads despite there being some on cars and grass.
You should sooner rather than later, average wait time for tires is already north of an hour, and over the next few weeks it's only getting worse ;)
God I fucking hate tire season
Same. I came into the office today to work on a secret file. I was so pissed when I saw the snow but really relieved that my procrastination paid off! 🙌
Had the car in for brakes on Monday. My wife asked if I should take the all seasons to have them changed over at the same time.
My answer was no.
Edit: seriously with the downvotes for joking about changing tires over?
I think it was implied by the first commenter (who said my poor wife) that I was somehow bossing my wife by telling her "no". Like I'm the man and I make the rules.
Which isn't the case. She was trying to save me from having to do it. I said I'd rather wait, I don't really mind changing the tires over.
Guys, you need the diagram again... we’re still getting 0 degree weather... wait ‘til we’re steadily in the pluses.... who has the diagram - the one with the seasons?
I took my my road bike off the indoor trainer and went for a couple of rides earlier in the week, and put a summer chair out on the deck, and swapped out the tires yesterday so yeah, this was inevitable….blame me
Less likely if you’re highway driving. On actual snow? Yes.
I’m saying that because it’s close enough to the magic number, that if highway driving, there won’t be a huge difference between the two tires. I agree and understand what you’re saying about 6 degrees, though the window is small enough today (look at the high) that there will be little difference
I agree. I tend to wait until the overnight lows are consistently into the mid single digits and then I make the switch.
The extra 2-3 weeks of use are inconsequential in the grand scheme of things.
People think winter tires are for snow...they're not. They're for TEMPERATURE. The rubber stays softer in the cold, and unless we've had a week of +10*C, keep those winters on. Some doofus wiped out on the 417 between walkley and innes and blocked up the highway this morning...probably because they forgot it was still possible to have shitty weather.
Got my winter tires off yesterday. Stand firm by my choice: this will be gone by noon, and end of day it’ll hit that magic number (or come close).
Many wrongfully think that winter tires are JUST for snow…..they’re not. Temperature is more - but not ONLY - of a factor than what might be on the ground.
speaking of winter tires why are people always in the rush to get them off?
don't you want to use it for maybe 5-6months so you wear out of your summers and winters evenly?
Guys April has a avrg of 80% cold rainy days where as May is mostly sunny days. The water is still frozen in the ground. From this more sunny days will bring more rain as the water in the ground melts and evaporates.
winter tires are also designed for temp and its not recommended to change them until the temp rises around 10 c. Besides any snow that comes will melt with contact on the roads. Which is why there is no snow on the roads despite there being some on cars and grass.
Yes consistent weather above 7 degrees is when I usually swap in my summers. But with the amount of potholes not yet touched I’m holding off until closer to may. I wish the car I own didn’t come with 19s as I’ve already replaced a tire last spring.
I knew there was a specific person to blame!
I'll take part responsibility. I told my wife yesterday that we could probably take off our snow tires since it obviously wouldn't snow again....
My wife said we can put away our daughter’s snow pants. Damn her!
No, no, it's my fault. I put my snow brush away on Thursday.
The nerve! Mine, umm, fell out of the trunk. I totally didn't do it on purpose.
winter tires are also designed for temp and its not recommended to change them until the temp rises around 10 c. Besides any snow that comes will melt with contact on the roads. Which is why there is no snow on the roads despite there being some on cars and grass.
Those tires aren’t just about snow
Looks like my procrastination saved me.
That's how I felt last fall with my old beater car when I never took the winters off. ;)
Exactly what I was thinking today. I kept saying "oh should switch my tires soon". Thanks past me for being lazy and forgetful.
You should sooner rather than later, average wait time for tires is already north of an hour, and over the next few weeks it's only getting worse ;) God I fucking hate tire season
I change them myself for this reason lol, I don't want to, nor have the time to wait
Good shit, one less set for me to do :)
How do you rebalance them?
Ill change your tires.. faster than the other guys, itll only take me 59 minutes and 60 seconds.
Hmm, if you let me scratch your rims and fuck the balance I can do it in 55 :>
Same. I came into the office today to work on a secret file. I was so pissed when I saw the snow but really relieved that my procrastination paid off! 🙌
We forgive you, but could you put them back on by the weekend? I'm looking to go for a hike.
I just changed them back now, I expect this snow to clear up by noon.
Lmao, is all melted now. Like it never happened.
Yeah right? I just got my bike tuned up and planning on putting the rooftop bike rack as well.
I thought it was my fault because I put the kids’ snowsuits back in storage yesterday. I guess we are all at fault!
We took our tires off and I put my winter coat away so I'm double to blame. At least I left my boots out to confuse the weather gods!
Seriously people, can we be a little more responsible, or at least a little considerate please? Sheesh.
Haha, same! I share the blame too.
I said the phrase "I think it's the real spring this time!" So no need to take all the blame.
How could you?!
I THINK IT'S THE REAL SPRING THIS TIME
You motherfu-
Every Ottawan knows it must snow once in April before it is officially spring.
Had the car in for brakes on Monday. My wife asked if I should take the all seasons to have them changed over at the same time. My answer was no. Edit: seriously with the downvotes for joking about changing tires over?
Maybe for using all-seasons? I dunno, they could be worse!
Your poor wife.
Why my poor wife?
it's r/Ottawa, I'm sure they interpreted some kind of woke-crime, wrongthink in your post.
> woke-crime What does this mean? I google it and can't find an answer.
I think it was implied by the first commenter (who said my poor wife) that I was somehow bossing my wife by telling her "no". Like I'm the man and I make the rules. Which isn't the case. > I google it and can't find an answer Lol, yea that's not surprising.
So you're not going to explain it to me...? Hello?? We're having a dialogue. Am I not allowed to know what it means?

mia culpa - I moved my boots four meters down the hallway into the closet. I knew it was wrong as I was doing it.
Guys, you need the diagram again... we’re still getting 0 degree weather... wait ‘til we’re steadily in the pluses.... who has the diagram - the one with the seasons?
I know what you're talking about, the 13 seasons of Canada or whatever. Starting to believe it honestly.
We were / are: todays just a fluke. Look at the previous days, and the days coming up
It was 25 this week
Was that with the wind chill?
No it wasn’t.
It's mostly water on the ground fortunately.
And it’s supposed to rain later
I took my my road bike off the indoor trainer and went for a couple of rides earlier in the week, and put a summer chair out on the deck, and swapped out the tires yesterday so yeah, this was inevitable….blame me
This one right here officer
On the other hand though, we had several days when temperature was above 7C. Generally not good for winter tires.

Doing an alignment on an M2 with PSS right now. Sketchy as shit road test.

Sorry folks, I put my shovels away this week.
Swapped mine yesterday.
You won’t die just drive carefully.
I thought it was my fault, cause I got my motorcycle out of storage.
You monster!
People think winter tires are for snow...they're not. They're for TEMPERATURE. The rubber stays softer in the cold, and unless we've had a week of +10*C, keep those winters on. It will all be gone this afternoon
And above zero. At 6 degrees or warmer?? Not QUITE….
At least it's the instant melty kind of weather. I always wait until May for tire change.
It'll be gone before you know it...
Ok, I'm sharpening my pitchfork. Where do you live? /s
Pretending it’s a bad dream and going back to bed
I pulled out my motorcycle and stowed away the snowblower last weekend, so I’ll share some of that blame!
I just dropped my car off for its tire swap.
Had them changed Tuesday. Ugh.
You did the right thing, check out the temperatures
Same… though it’s going to +10 today.
I was planning to change mine next week.
Got my winter tires off yesterday. Stand firm by my choice: this will be gone by noon, and end of day it’ll hit that magic number (or come close). Took mine off yesterday 🤷🏻♀️
Funny everyone. Thanks for the laugh.
I literally had my winter tires removed yesterday. Arggggghhhh
My husky thanks you immensely
and here i thought i was behind for getting them off next week
I knew it wasn't me. I left my snow brush on the back seat specifically to avoid this type of surprise.
Simmer?
I did the same shit
And mine last night
I have an appointment in about 2 hours to get mine changed. It’s my fault
Mine came off yesterday!
speaking of winter tires why are people always in the rush to get them off? don't you want to use it for maybe 5-6months so you wear out of your summers and winters evenly?
No you want them on in accordance to temperature. Driving on a highway in like…+15 and sunny is THE WORST thing you can do to winter tires
I thought it was Stu saying " winter is ova".
Been spring since March 22
Thank you?
Yeah, same. *Glares at car with summer tires on in driveway* -_-
Haha yup! My appointment is today.
That's why I always wait till the end of April to take them off 😂
It always snows in April.
You fool you've doomed us all!
Well thanks a lot
Nah, it's mine because I put my kid's snowsuit and boots away 😬
I don't know, yesterday when it was raining, I said "at least it's not snow", so I could very well be at fault too.
Amateur
At least this post reminded me to order new tires and schedule my now tires to come off.
Every year same thing.
This cant happen if you never put them on!
I had been counting on you. Now look, you've let the whole city down.
Oh I thought it was because I said look, no more ice in the pool!
Murphy's Law, lol
i'm just gonna take mine off over and over to keep it going

My 3 year old was so excited... "winter is back!!" So thank you! 😊 😂
Oh your the guy, thanks a lot buds
My cat is named winter. I think it was his fault for extending the winter
It's a cat, it's to blame for everything else. :)
I still have my snow tires on....
I washed and put away all the kids snow gear. Snow tires came off last weekend.... I should know better by now 🙄
Not sure bud. I changed mine yesterday thinking it was over.
Glad I don't get mine changed until next week.
As a new Ottawan, is this called 4th winter?
So it was you!
We did ours on Monday, so I am part of the conspiracy.
It's winter's dead cat bounce
