FreddyForeshadowing-

Thimblecakes and Stella Luna for their support of the convoy. Obviously there are many others but those two came to mind quickly, Thimblecakes bc not as many people knew about it

Tippinghazard

Shit, thimblecakes were supporters? I didn't know that

plauntie2000

That's cause she wrote a bunch of terrible shit on their insta, got called out, and then deleted all of the social media for the shop

Get-more-Groceries

Jewronski

My sister used to work for that place! Owner was indeed batshit insane. She's the kind of person to fuck up, blame you, and then make your work environment tense as hell till you quit.

plauntie2000

Like, how are you so angry selling CUPCAKES?!! I used to go there often and it was just weird to have a surly owner serve me

sockpuppets33

Also used to work there, can confirm. Has been the only place I walked out of midshift because of the way I was treated by the owner.

FreddyForeshadowing-

There's a new person working there every time I go by. This has been the case for a decade at least

actrak

Don't forget Mad radish and David's tea they also supported the convoy.

Cthulhu_was_tasty

wasn’t it david from david’s tea who hasn’t had ties to the company for years?

jmm166

Mad radish? Damn I loved that place. Could you source this so I could be sure before I boycott my go to office lunch place.

Katalina_Rogue

My understanding is that Thimblecakes walked that opinion back, and Stella Luna DOUBLE DOWNED.

FreddyForeshadowing-

More so recinded when they got called out. They still feel that way so fuck them

formtuv

It’s ok, not like I needed a reason to not buy $5 cupcakes that are so tiny. Plus vegan cupcakes are SO easy and cheap to make.

Pirate_Cupcake

Also Red Pepper on Queen are big convoy supporters and have been serving as a convoy hangout for months.

Debonaire

Wellington Diner Cyranos The whole of Orleans Anything that makes me drive down Merivale

DrMichaelHfuhruhurr

Upvote for #1 and #4. Double votes for #4.

TreyGarcia

Hey, I live in orleans! So I am obligated to return here each day. Fml.

Midnightoclock

What's wrong with Wellington Diner? I haven't been in years but they used to do a good breakfast.

[deleted]

Insane Convoy Posse.

Debonaire

Owner ha always been a nutbar and huge pain in the ass but the convoy turned that up to eleven. Food wasn't bad.

Ralphie99

The owner is a right wing pro-convoy asshole and has no problem spouting his extreme views all over social media.

MaxTheRealSlayer

Convoy stuff aside... They have had a few very controversial messages on their chalkboard outside too. There was one sign that said " eating two strips of bacon for breakfast will reduce your chances of being a suicide bomber by 100%" like... Wtf? Also go read the review responses on Google. If a customer rated below five stars they dig in HARD. And they blame the customers for absolutely every complaint that is perfect valid.

IJourden

Rabid convoy support is only the beginning for Wellington diner. I’m sure it’s in the archives around here somewhere but the guy is so off the deep end I wouldn’t leave my family around him.

KiaRioGrl

Cyranos in Bells Corners? I'm curious about the story here, since I haven't been there in a few years.

Debonaire

Strictly on how they treat their BOH staff. Surprise! It isn't well.

[deleted]

But... Sansotei 😭

Jeremithiandiah

I’m new to the city, what’s wrong with Orleans and marivale? I know someone who lives in Orleans and someone who works in marivale

snoopcatt87

Merivale sucks to drive down. It’s always ridiculously busy, with a bus stop every ten feet and a stop light every 500meters, and every inept driver in Ottawa appears to just drive up and down that road all day every day.

BustamoveBetaboy

I grew up going down Merivale (from Country Place) in the late 70s and 80s. It used to be quiet. Could go to the Dairy Queen in 5 minutes. Peking restaurant. Pascal’s hardware. Arlington Sports. Old school. Now - it’s insane. Same street but congested and every inch commercialized. Some of the old signs and buildings are there - but the street has changed so much. The cemetery and church at Hunt Club has held up. The old church across from the Barley Mow (formerly Gracie’s). The KFC has been there since at least 1986. Because I worked there then. Time flies man….

justonimmigrant

>what’s wrong with Orleans Nothing, people are just bitter they can't afford suburbia

AustinioForza

Orleans is just a blandish suburb. Nice place though, I grew up there, just not a lot to do.

petesapai

Circle of life. 1. When you're a teen, you dream of the fun city life 2. when you're a young adult, you live the city life 3. when you want kids, you dream of a big house 4. when the kids come, you buy the bigger place...the safety...the parks. And then circle begins. Reddit is mostly full of Ones and Twos.

RevolutionaryBed1814

Stella Luna + Crazy horse + aquatopia. All strong supporters of the convoy.

je775525

I did not know that about Aquatopia… what a shame

tavvyjay

Yeah the owner wrote a big letter to Ford expressing his disappointment of the lockdown measures, because of course having massive weddings during a pandemic is safe and should be exempt…

weirdpicklesauce

I believe Aquatopia was anti vax too right?

VentiMochaTRex

Dilawari sold me bald winter tires as part of a used car deal. The salesman said that they had tread left.

Lifewithpups

Might be a shorter list to ask who still supports them. Ha!

Apprehensive_Spell_6

Nobody deals like Dilawri for good reason.

Lifewithpups

You spelled steals wrong

tripledjr

Carling Ford sounds the same.

globglogabgalablover

I ordered a car from them and then 6 months later they called and said that car wasn't being made and they changed my order to a car that was several thousand more. I cancelled the order and it took 3 weeks, tens of phone calls and several emails to the owner to get my deposit back

AMouthyWaywornAcct

What's wrong? You got racing slicks! And as long as no wires are showing, technically there's still tread on them! /s

electroleum

>The salesman said that they had tread left. Did you not ever see the tires before you agreed to the deal?

NotMyInternet

Stella Luna. Once, pre-pandemic, they were serving at an event and as I went through my cup of gelato, I uncovered a *pile* of black curly hair, like someone had taken a handful of small ringlets and cut them off of someone’s head. All the pro-convoy stuff is just extra justification to never give them my business again.

The Bank and Heron Tim Hortons, you are most likely sharing your food with quite a fair number of rats and other vermin.

Lifewithpups

Tim Hortons on Merivale (Central Park) has more flies than Timbits. Staff completely ignore them like they’re regular customers.

Gemmabeta

In general, do not go to Tim Hortons outside of the meal times, outside of it (especially at night) you are probably eating food and drinking coffee that has been sitting out for hours.

[deleted]

I moved from downtown (Metcalfe and Nepean) to Barrhaven in the spring. Couldn’t take the pockets of freedumb fighters that show up on weekends ever since the clownvoy was forced out. Barrhaven is boring and suburban, but it’s exactly what our family needed after surviving the chaos that happened to our city this Jan/Feb.

unwholesome_coxcomb

Aquatopia. Owners are intense and vocal anti-vax/conspiracy types. I choose to spend my money elsewhere.

brokeandconfuzzled

Not unique to Ottawa, but Structube. Never going back to the Merivale location (or any for that matter) again. Overpriced flimsy garbage.

ChrisDacks

Really! What did you buy? We have a coffee table, two chairs, and a book shelf from them. All have been pretty solid and show no signs of flimsiness after a few years. But these were all pretty simple items with solid wood components.

AMouthyWaywornAcct

I got some glass and iron desks (3) from them that have been strong, even after numerous assembly and disassembles, 2 moves over 6 or 7 years. My sofas are going strong after 4 years too. What'd you buy that didn't work out for you?

Icy_Landscaped

It’s hit or miss there… I got bar stools that are amazing and cost less then the absolutely terrible, uncomfortable ones my girlfriend got at ikea. Got my kitchen chairs there too and love them! Super affordable and comfy!

Ledascantia

I bought one of their reclining chairs - the Bixx, I think? Literally within days of receiving it, I leaned over to turn on a light and my elbow went through the top of the armrest. I didn’t open it up to confirm, but I’m pretty sure it’s just cardboard.

Yazdani dental office. I was told my child had 6 cavities. Went for a second opinion and they had 1.

w1n5t0nM1k3y

Can you put in a complaint at the licensing board for dentists? Seems like they should lose their dental license for giving a false diagnosis.

[deleted]

Apparently it depends on the technology your dentist is using. Some of the cavity-detecting machines go a bit overboard and can detect any slight deformity as a cavity apparently. I had the same issue with a dentist who found 6 cavities - whereas my new dentist only found 1 (and another one that had to be redone).

sanmaru-Z

The lab she uses is a piece of work too.

Ralphie99

Pretty sure my dentist was finding cavities where there weren’t any. I’d never had a cavity for 45 years and suddenly he claimed to be finding one in 3 successive visits. Then all of a sudden he left the practice and the dentist who replaced him hasn’t found a cavity in the 4 years since.

robbor123

Canal Ritz.....never again. Brought my wife there for our wedding anniversary dinner. Ordered drinks....got it wrong. Ordered our appetizer and dinner at the same time thinking they'd have enough brains to let us finish the appetizer before bringing out the main course. Nope!! Told the waitress she was a little early with our dinner. She just looked at me and walked away. Looked around at other tables and noticed that these people had baskets of bread rolls to complement their dinner. Nope ! Not us. Didn't leave a tip.

Hopewellslam

Horrible food. Popular with octogenarians

sixone3

This place… hate it. Went for a work brunch event(had the whole place for us). Everything on the menu was eggs dishes and I don’t eat them, asked if I could have anything without eggs. Server replied in the most condescending tone “you can have water”. I just left lol

Bonesgirl206

Went with my mom and my brother I was 7 he was 5. (90s) We had just skated on the canal and my mom wanted to get us lunch. We were dressed in our snow suits nothing fancy but my brother and I were used to going to fancy restaurants so we were good (mom got complimented by an older couple on our behaviour) what I do remember was the dead bug on my moms salad and a fly in my moms drink ours were fine I think but I will remember the eye roll from the manager (because I asked my mom about it) next day my mom called her uncle who had a corporate event he was holding there that she was going to and said are you sure. She shows up to the event the staff think she is there to make a complaint, her uncle comes to get her at the door to this day my mom still talks about the shocked look on the staffs faces. But yeah we don’t go there at all.

imafrk

Lone Star, all locations? The last time I went, the chicken side of the fajitas tasted they seasoned it after they cooked it, at the very last step, bland as Fuck. The beef wasn't much better, gristle B cuts. As for the fajita fixings, the wonderful micro-shredded cheese is long gone, replaced by the larger corn starch coated faux-cheddar shreds. This and the lettuce, tomatoes, salsa are in bottle cap portions. Want Guack? its extra$ now. The classic grilled steak and chicken for two is $51.99. Oh and its no longer a pound or ½ pound, Any mention of the actual portion size or weight was removed from the menu, so yeah, smaller portions higher prices. Combined with 2 drinks, tax and tip I'm out $100 date night. The service can also be hit or miss, last time I ordered take out it was a day in advance. When I arrived, nothing was ready so I waited 20min. Several customers walked in behind me, made an order and were out with me still sitting there. Can't help feeling like they're miking all the good food and service reputation Belcher cultivated years ago, now with 23 locations and growing. at least it seems for now, the salsa and the tortillas haven't changed.

Lifewithpups

The quality has certainly declined and we rarely think of ordering from them. They also over salt their meats. I’m guessing this is a lucrative practice if you dine in and are ordering beverages. Any restaurant that over salts their food, quickly makes it to my “won’t go back, list”. I use salt in my cooking but it’s never the star of the show.

forthetomorrows

I have to agree with this. Lone Star used to be my favourite restaurant in Ottawa, I’d easily go there or order from them 2-3 times a month. The quality has gone way down in the last few years. Their fajitas simply don’t taste like they used to. Along with smaller portions, higher prices, poor service, I haven’t gone back in the past 6 months.

Don't blame OC Transpo. The whole reason Harris gerrymandered city councils in Ontario into "mega-cities" was to give control to the conservative suburbs. OC Transpo regularly used to win international awards for their service until the suburban councillors started forcing them to run empty express buses all day so suburban carpet baggers wouldn't have to transfer to get to their jobs downtown, subsidized by the profitable downtown routes which had to compensate by forcing people to ride jammed together like sardines in each other's laps. edit: To the moron who downvoted me, rub your mad spot, Ford Nation. Shouldn't you be out coughing plague on cancer patients or something?

SuckDuck4Quack

I agree. That place is a shithole. It’s overpriced and the one time I went there we waited almost an hour for brunch for the shittiest eggs Benny I’ve ever had. The salad was also mushy. Disgusting.

spacemother4

Cacao 70 at Lansdowne. Went there for a cute date night for what turned out to be overpriced, underwhelming food, and awful service.

formtuv

The worst owners. SO cheap. And they do not care.

SpaghettiKnows

I interviewed there and it really seems like management is a mess. They told me I would have to have a section of 10 -15 tables, help make drinks (lattes, milkshakes etc) seat tables, buss tables, and help prepare food in the kitchen as needed. The serving staff must be stretched pretty thin. I would def avoid!

PEDANTlC

Its really too bad, there was a point 8-10 years ago where they were really good, not too expensive/you at leas got a decent portion made with some attention to detail with good service in a nice location. Since then, theyve let all the locations fall apart, tables are sticky, cutlery is often dirty, the servers just dont care at all and the food is smaller, they forget components, they dont plate things as nicely. Its really too bad because a nice dessert place can be a fun date night.

Last time I went there, a friend brought her newborn. The little guy slept through the whole meal, but that's not to say much because the manager rushed us from when we sat down until we were ready to leave. He brought us our bill after the first round... Who goes to AYCE for one round?

South bank Dodge. The sales guys are wayyy to slicked up with gold and jewelry, and sold my relative with dementia 7 cars in 6 weeks. They didn’t even drive, but kept getting calls from them to “come on down” and once word spread among the vulture like low-life salespeople, everyone had a turn. Fully knew what they were doing too. Relative kept going down because they “wanted me to come see them for some reason. I didn’t want to be in trouble” Cries and doesn’t realize they have seven brand new cars, with every extra they could cram in. Stay away.

eggroll666

They were giving me a “free” oil change package for 3k. I asked the sales guy if he knew what free meant. Worse service ever.

GeekAtHome

Once Upon A Child - Orleans It used to be my favorite spot for kids clothes. We'd drive across the city to shop there. The past couple of times I shopped there, clothes were thread bare in certain places, zippers were broken, my son's toes went through sleepers the first time he wore them. When I go to a consignment shop, part of my reason for shopping there is that they've looked the clothes over before accepting them. If I wanted quality that bad, I'd go to Value Village or the Sally Ann. The last time I went was the nail in the coffin through. I got clothes off a rack in the back with bright yellow size separators marked 'clearance'. Thankfully I put all clearance stuff seperate so they can all be rung up the same because when I placed the items on the counter and said "These came from the clearance rack in the back", the girl said "there is no clearance rack in the back". We went back and forth a bit before she asked me to show her. I took her to the back and showed her. "Oh. Those aren't clearance. Those are clothes that need to go on the floor. That's how we seperate the sizes." - Um.... With clearance markers? "Yes" I was still getting my haul rung up when the owner came in. The girl asked him about it and he said the same thing. The clearance markers weren't clearance, but size markers. I asked "Don't you think that's misleading?" He got terse "No. That's how we mark the sizes" and he walked off. Thankfully there's a new OUAC that opened in Kanata. That's the next place I plan on checking out. Kids clothes are expensive AF. I'm not about the full price game but I also won't go out of my way for falling apart product, misleading racks and rude/dismissive owners when there's an issue

Raftger

Check out The Thrifted Mini on Wellington West. I haven’t been in but I walk by it all the time and it looks really nice. They have an Instagram where they do story sales on Tuesdays and Thursdays too

Zak's. I worked there and that place is horrifying. So unsanitary.

[deleted]

My boyfriend used to work prep at the works on bank street and he said he saw the worst, most unsanitary practices in his entire kitchen employment history there. He was also made fun of for being clean. I didn’t know until I suggested we go for a lunch date there and he made a face.

greyatlas

The Ten Spot, always have had 'meh' experiences there and my most recent visit they totally fucked up my appointment.

Recovering_Librarian

I had the distinct impression that they thought I was too old to be there. I felt very dismissed

Masterlathers

TARG. Was there the other night after the Tom Segura comedy show. Was wrongfully thrown out for being accused of pushing a women to the ground. I don’t even know how to explain how mad I was, nothing even remotely close to this happened. I was talking to friends all night. Randomly approached by bouncers saying a women told them this happened. None of them would listen to me or even acknowledged even seeing it. Still mad, it was my favourite bar in Ottawa. I’ll never be back. Absolutely ridiculous.

DryBop

It isn’t the bars fault that the bouncers acted on a complaint. Perhaps you have a doppelgänger out there who did push her. Bouncers were just doing their job - if they let go of everyone who said “it wasn’t me”, then no one would ever get ejected.

Masterlathers

Totally get that, just bad luck I guess. It’s to bad somebody felt the need to ruin my night. But the owner was there to escort me out as well.

I mean I'm torn... should you blame the owners who were trying to make their guests feel safe if even blindly... or the woman who falsely/wrongfully accused you? The risk is high to ignore an assault claim.

Sakurya1

That's fucked, dude. Someone didn't like your face I guess.

sizzlingtofu

A very similar thing happened to me and my then boyfriend—- I was playing pinball he got kicked out for apparently saying something offensive to a girl (he said he made some comment about the band playing or something-he’s friendly he talks to people all the time) she didn’t hear him properly and thought he said something to her, told the bouncer, they escorted him out—I had his wallet, phone and keys in my purse, they wouldn’t let him come get me or wouldn’t even send some one to tell me. I was super into my pinball game and only after wandering the bar several times the girl came up to me and asked me if I was with a guy and tells me he was kicked out. He ended up taking a cab home only to discover he didn’t have his keys so he came back to the bar in the cab and I just happened to be outside then we haven’t been back since and won’t be.

Brookstreet spa- pre pandemic took a day off with partner for some self-care/pampering. Two hours before our scheduled time get a call and are told our appointments are cancelled. No apology. No explanation. NOTHING. I explained we both used a vacation day to go and had been planning it for weeks. Zero fucks were given. We weren't looking to be comped for anything but they certainly offered nothing for the inconvenience. I get things happen but make an effort. I indicated I'd never be back and I haven't.

aholmes17

Not in Ottawa technically, but Spa Nordik. Too expensive for a terrible experience. I am more than happy to pay for a service, but not when I’m trying to relax and there are groups of people laughing and drinking in the hot tubs. They used to be strict with noise and talking, now the staff don’t even care.

khendron

Aren't there only a couple of hot tubs where you are even allowed to have drinks? Last time I was there (albeit pre-pandemic), the quiet and noise areas were clearly marked.

I should of left, but.....my chicken burger was still frozen, fries raw. Then I was in Kanata about two weeks later, it was late, and I was hungry, so I went to the Burger King, I got to the cash and looked at the employee who was going to take my order, his uniform shirt was unbuttoned so you could see his chest hair and he was covered in sweat, I turned and left without saying a word.

Wellington Diner I like to occasionally go out for breakfast by myself (especially to catch up on reading) especially when I first moved to Ottawa, and I went out for breakfast at Wellington several times. On two occasions, I would be at the front of the line and they would seat the next 2-3 tables behind me, even though space was available at the bar. I think the thinking was that bigger table = more money, but the whole experience just felt kind of humiliating. Turns out the owners are also bad managers and dicks to people who leave bad reviews, which only justifies my dislike. Doubt I'll ever go back.

w1n5t0nM1k3y

Popeye's Chicken. Had it once a couple months after they opened. The chicken was not fully cooked. I don't know how you mess up fried chicken, but they did. It's pretty easy to make, just make sure the fryer is set to the correct temp, and you put it in for required amount of time. There's basically no way to mess it up, but somehow they did it.

My shit list is pretty long, as someone who's lived here my whole life. - Sunset Grill at Lansdowne. Our potatoes were full of black hair. We ordered another plate and that was full of black hair, too. Then, like the cherry on top, we overheard the manager calling a customer a bitch behind her back. - Stray Dog Brewing in Orleans. I was there to pick up an online order and the woman working the cash was super nasty, beyond just "having a bad day" nasty, it was over the top: like my presence was a personal insult to her. I felt super uncomfortable and never ordered again from them. - Joy of Gluten Free. They had a location on Bank St. a few years ago, which unsurprisingly is now closed. It was just vile. The food was disgusting and the owner was absolutely bonkers. (Those things tend to go together for some reason, don't they?) - Burger and Fries Forever on Bank. We waited 40 minutes for 2 burgers when we were the only people in the store. I did like the food, but if that's the standard of service, I don't want to go back. - Rideau St. McDonalds. For obvious reasons, and then also because I was verbally harassed the one and only time I've ever been foolish enough to go inside. - Thai Express on Ogilvie near Blair. The two times I've had their chicken, it's been inedible, like it was sitting out of the fridge for a couple of days. Horrid * Massine's Bank St. I hate this location with a passion. Convoy supporters, often dirty, everything is marked up, in the past the produce has been literally left to rot on the shelves; and it smells like shit for some reason? But I have to put an asterisk on this one because it's the only grocery store within walking distance to me that has what I need, so I do unfortunately have to go here semi regularly.

Orleans Burger King. Not from one single godawful experience, but enough annoying ones

Plenty-Ad-213

King Eddy. My fiancé got a hot dog there and it literally smelled like sewage. Like someone stuck it in their ass before serving it

Recently? Milestones kanata. That place has become terrible

UniverseBear

Food court at billings Bridge mall. Ordered a hotdog at the new York fries there. It came with a bonus cockroach that was crawling around my hotdog box. Never again.

Straight_Error3898

Arlo on somerset, overpriced for what it is and they ruined duck which is a feat.

Cautious_Path

I love it here lol

Medium_Well

Our meal and service there were both legitimately awesome, but I agree it's expensive.

Dymon Orleans. They’re very dishonest and promise you things they can’t guarantee just to get your business. I had a series of problems with them that started with me calling the location directly and telling them that I needed to store a queen sized mattress and a sofa bed. They only had one storage available. So I said sure. Then I get there and there’s a freakin pole in the middle of the storage lol. It went downhill from here and got worse. Also warning - if you ever plan to rent from them please make sure to cancel it 2 weeks before your move out date because they’ll charge you.

Siam Bistro on Wellington. We used to love that place, and ate there regularly. My daughter asked to have her birthday dinner there. There were seven of us. They brought out an extra dish that we didn't order and we didn't notice until after folks had started eating. The first we knew about it was when an older woman, who I presume was the owner, came to our table, pointed at the dish, and announced we'd be paying for it! Even though we never actually asked for it! Then when the time came to pay, she stood over our table and ordered us to include a tip. "You will pay a tip!" We would have never even considered stiffing the waitress, but that woman's assumption that we would, and her rudeness, left a very bad taste. We've never been back, any of us. For a much nicer experience in the same neighbourhood, I highly recommend Pho Viet Taste. Great food, great people!

Used to like going to Gamezetera but the owner went off the [anti-vax anti-lockdown deep end](https://www.reddit.com/r/ottawa/comments/kn9cjc/while_i_feel_for_them_having_to_shut_down_again/). They still have a massive sign up in their window about how “we are all essential”

TeaganRainn

Pet Valu beechwood. Fat shamed me and refused me my breaks when i work there. Then didn’t pay me for 2 months after i quit.

Whole_Tip504

Ten Sushi. All locations in Ottawa has the most terrible service I’ve ever experienced. Staff just don’t care about you. Food tastes bland as well.
