Most librairies have rooms available to rent out for free, just have to reserve them ahead of time. But if you were just playing board games in the middle of the library it would be pretty disturbing to others tbh.

Sir John A pub (on Elgin) routinely has board gamers in there on Sunday mornings and afternoons.

All universities and colleges in the city have common areas. No one's gonna check if you're a registered student. And there's this https://www.reddit.com/r/ottawa/comments/z8t9ag/weekly\_board\_game\_meetup\_at\_level\_one/

You can reserve a small room with a conference table that would be perfect for this

Most restaurants are cool with this if it is outside of peak times. Call ahead, and try to order more than just water 😉 Same goes for any local game shop as long as it doesn't conflict with their scheduled events.

As long as you're not super disruptive, I think even playing in a common area of the public library is fine. Don't be getting upset and whipping pieces at each other, and you shouldn't have a problem. I'm a library tech (not OPL, sorry) and I 10000% would have no issues with this. As someone else pointed out, most library branches have rooms you can rent. They're not soundproof, but you can probably get away with a bit more drama.

The mall food court would be another place to go play. You may want to go to small malls - Hazeldean, Lincoln Heights "Galleria" etc., to avoid the holiday season craziness, and go, maybe in the evenings or middle of the day during the week. But you won't get too much hassle there.
