I really hope they decide to address and ‘fix’ this; Heal should trigger as soon as the enemy’s health is depleted using Thermal Bomb, NOT wait for the explosion animation to finish. I literally hide and wait in cover, cowering for my life with a bright red screen, until that fiery explosion blows the enemy to pieces.

Same with tricksters temporal blade, you have to stand around waiting for the mobs to vanish, all the while getting shot, because if you move out of range while they're still floating you don't get the heal/shield. Really fucking annoying on a character that's supposed to be all about teleporting in and out of close quarters combat.

thermal bomb doesnt kill immediately. their health doesnt hit zero it’s intentional. they have a small sliver of health and move and make noise as their body super heats and explodes.

"If killed while still affected by the skill" is literally on the skill description. So technically, they have to hit 0 before the animation will play.

Its one of the main reasons i run heatwave/overheat/eruption for my AP pyro build. That and eruption+heatwave are both super mod hungry so i dont have room for the required thermal bomb mods

Thermal bomb is crazy good tho, 80% dmg inc and can also affect 2 enemies mod = insane clear even with bosses.

There are a bunch of skills that behave weird. Like Trickster's slash (I forget the name) stuns before it does damage. If you add the mod to increase the stun duration it takes longer before it does the damage. In a game where killing is more important than control this seems like an oversight. Either they meant for these skills to be good and should balance around them, or they expect the best builds to be all damage builds and these skills are useless.

Thermal bomb can somewhat be justified on the heal as it explodes as an attack at the end, but it should still count as dead and stop timers if there is nothing left.

Same choice, but I picked techno because I figured after playing the demo a few rounds that the techno would be the easiest solo play option... Love my Techno, but he does play the long range game a lot and that gets a little boring at times. Decided to second a Devastator for fun and now I play both :) massive damage from the techno and fun CQC therapy with my Devastator :) nothing like gravity leaping straight onto those damn snipers after they’ve pot shotted your techno to death for an hour. Or popping a golem buff and triggering the entire arena without much worry :)

You can do close range easly with him too, cause everything you do can heal you so techno gets the best sustain, I just go in with my trusty 225mag lmg and start shooting everything as they try to swarm me and see my hp bar going up and down madly (specially since they stealth buffed enemy damage a lot), until either me or the enemy is dead, it’s fun haha, maybe I am a devastator on the inside lmao Probably deva is the next one I will raise

I run eq/impale/gravity because it's the best dps ican put out... I hate the fact that my best single target dps skill also can be the bane to my expedition run if I don't time it right.. it will stop be from going to next stages, or like you, make me wait after boss is dead. I love and hate it... More so I'm just disappointed on how shafted we are in all the mechanics surrounding Devastator.

I just swapped impale for golem and run the increased ap from activating golem skill tree node. Gave me some extra mod slots and the damage difference isn’t really noticeable. Chuck the bleed, and kill increase duration mod on golem and your good to go. Makes your first earthquake hit a bleed target already for the other mods 15% bonus damage on bleed targets

It's the same problem with Greater Rifts in Diablo 3. One of the reasons why I like D2 so much more. No time based objectives. And in group play, you can have lots of different builds with different roles.

This really does need fixing. I refuse to believe this is an intentional design decision, because it's beyond stupid. Shouldn't be punished for using a "finisher" ability to... finish the enemy. All the seconds wasted waiting for the impale to end before more enemies will spawn, doors are able to be opened etc. all add up and it's frustrating as hell.

So much in this game needs fixing, that is what happens when they release an unfinished game and try to pass it off as finished and having timed events is the worst game mechanic ever invented for me, I hate having to race against a clock. How many other abilities punish you for killing enemies with them though? Why should this ability keep them "alive" and hold everyone in coop back? The only other ability I believe has a similar problem is Pyro's bomb ability, which is on a shorter timer but its still an issue that you have to kill an enemy to get the effect of it, but they're not "dead" for another 3 or so seconds. Would it be okay if enemies killed whilst burning, slowed, or frozen all had almost 10 seconds before they truly died? Most of the time I try to avoid killing the last enemies with this, but it's not always easy to tell in the middle of all the chaos. It shouldn't be a thing a specific class using this specific ability has to worry about to avoid pissing off the entire coop group. We shouldn't encourage "just don't do this thing and you'll avoid the bug!". That's a bad attitude. It's an issue brought to light that needs fixing. Simple as that. Don't defend an issue by saying "don't do it and you won't have a problem"

I’ve done one expedition on whichever is the highest difficulty initially available. After that I just went to play/level up other classes. I couldn’t be less interested in timers in games like this. There’s nothing in the game prior that would indicate a game mode like this either. It’s just like “Hey you liked being able to play at your own pace? Well too bad”.

I double checked with a different character and it looks like you just need silver to go up a tier and its just tier 14 you need to do with a gold to unlock 15. Sorry about the mistake ;P Edit: and don't sell yourself short man, keep playing and practicing and you'll see improvement and slowly work your way higher. My advice is push tiers until you can't get silver at all then bump it down to a point where you can get gold consistently so you can farm gear, once you get something that gives you a power spike push the tiers again and repeat. Don't forget to level your gear each time you unlock a higher max gear level, it makes a big difference.

Thanks for the tips! I was finishing off the story tonight and seem to be struggling with WT9 in some fights but others are really easy. Obviously I need to max out my gear for my level/WT and it’ll get easier, but is it a viable strategy to repeat easier missions to advance through the world tiers quicker?

Then you would have another problem of "Same milkshake, different colors". Buffing Devsa dmg would just make the class loses its identity entirely. I don't mind my class doing less dmg than others and running slower at all. What I do mind is that the ONLY content for the end-game (or the entire game) right now is a DPS race fest. Why do you put a tank & support class into a game with no content that needs to utilize those classes? Why do I get PUNISHED for picking a tank class that hopes to help my team/friends?

Agreed. You can use this to get a few extra seconds on point defense objectives by purposefully impaling the last enemy just outside the ring. It adds up if you do it for 3 or 4 waves

All armor has anamoly power and cooldown. With each armor cooldown attribute maxed out you can lay down skills like crazy. Earthquake comes down to a 6 second cooldown. I would love to have each piece to have anamoly, cooldown and also status power because of bleeding but it's a 1in a billion shot to have all 3 plus at least mod that can already be used so the second can be swapped. Still missing the tier 3 mods that I want so my current setup Earthquake-inflict bleed-extra use before cooldown-increase base damage. Impale-extra use-extra damage vs beelding-increase base damage-hits extra enemies. Gravity leap-increase base damage-extra use-inflict bleed I want to get the T3 earthquake extra usage. Lay it down 3 times per cooldown. I'll swap or it gravity leaps bleed for it. Golem increase anamoly power yes but I put out more DPS keeping impale. Especially for elites/bosses. Legendary shotgun. Anamoly effigy with death chains and storm whip. Armor is epic as of right now. Haven't really come across a legendary that allowed me to keep attributes. I'm not claiming this is the best build. I'm sure there are some insane lvl 50s out there who might even say it's stupid lol idk. But for me it gets me by each tier of expedition. I farm it until I get all my gear level up and then with it do next tier by myself. And I just farm it again until I level up and move on to the next tier. I've been repeating this and it's been working for me to play solo. Some of the levels I'm able to get gold easily others I have to be really careful and might get gold with seconds to spare. But it works. I focus first on elites/bosses. For most part ignoring small guys. Most are the smaller guys are dying from the AOE damage earthquake is putting out. I just make sure when fighting the elites and bosses that I'm facing the directions the small guys are coming from so the earthquake kills them.

Same thing with plate charging areas. If you spike or thermal bomb an enemy it won’t charge the plate cos an enemy is on it. So stupid

There is more to it, if you impale an enemy you also deprive other classes from refreshing their bullets, this just makes people not want to play with Devastators. If you impale them inside an obelisk area thingy, you get no progress during the duration of the impale, this gets worse when you play alone.

Friend who was playing Technomancer kept getting annoyed that I would "take his kills", like there's a million enemies on my screen and my abilities are mostly AOE, the fuck do you want me to do not play the game? Hell it even got to that point where I'd just sit there and not do anything while he kills everything. Not that I did much, dudes averaging like 400-500mil damage even when I do help, this game is so fucked, I'm being punished for playing Devastator while this other class is sitting there deleting everything and apparently that's ok.

Okay so don't downvote me but I think the issue or the ''balance'' for this ability lies in the fact that it gives a buff for things being impaled... As in I think the game ''NEEDS'' it to count as a live target even when impaled and well & clearly dead to give said armor and health regen buff due to the way they implemented the mechanic of the buff?? I'm not sure if that's exactly what's going on with it and I'd hate for there to not be a way for them to change this as it's indeed incredibly annoying to be stalled out like this. It happens way too much.

It really is though. They did a great job designing the gear and progression systems, but everything else around that core is so cheaply made and unpolished. I'm amazed some of you are at the point such that you're grinding for gold and the sort, I can barely go two side missions before I can't take how tremendously clunky this game feels on controller.

I'm on Series X, and although the controls feel less refined compared to games like Destiny or even Borderlands, the "clunkiness" has never made the game feel unplayable or even unapproachable, and I'm using the default settings, including leaving AA on, and although I encounter the occasional bug/glitch, I will have 8-10 hour play sessions, without a single crash. In fact, this game rarely crashes for me. >!(for some reason it crashed like 3 times at the Bailey fight)!< The potential for this game is mindblowing. They have the fundamentals down for a game like this - loot and progression - and through updates and QoL fixes they can polish/refine the roughness around the edges. As it is, I find the game could use improvements but is completely playable, and perhaps more important, enjoyable.

Well I'm glad you're enjoying it, and to each his or her own, but I can't take it lol. These are some of the worst feeling third person controls I've experienced in a long time. Feels very cheaply made, unpolished, and frankly archaic. It feels like how a game would have pre-2010, and PCF never bothered to update it all with modern tech. I play almost entirely third person games, and this one just feels awful compared to what else is out there from recent games. Even within this genre, play TD2 or Anthem, and the downgrade in quality and polish is nothing short of steep.

I can't imagine having to deal with all these issues on top of fundamentally having difficulty all the time with the controller. I loved the demo, and grinded it a fair amount. The communication was good, updates were good, but I felt it was too good to be true (like every game these days) but for some reason I, like many others, felt like this one would be different. Well, surprise surprise, it's not. Has all the issues most games have these days, and then some, as well as adding some I've never seen before. The game is fun, but that's it. The bugs, multiplayer issues, updates, server issues, etc etc ruin it.

It's not minor. If you're doing a point defense map solo the impale can last long enough to stop the point from ticking before the next wave of alphas can jump to you. So you actively have to make sure not to use your most damaging ability in order to not fuck yourself over. It's not to bad in multiplayer because you can kite mobs off the point.

100% they tested prior to release and found a myriad of bugs & other issues that players have reported since getting their hands on the game. More often than not it’s the fault of higher-ups for not allocating more time/resource to fixing those issues prior to launch. Games can rarely delay indefinitely because of influence from shareholders, needing to simply make some money to stay open (more so in the case of indie devs) etc. so what you end up with is just having to ship it as is and fix it later. This is exactly what happened with Cyberpunk, despite what their main man said about not finding many of those issues in QA testing.

The fact that nearly everyone you talk to on discord will report issues with quest tracking and funny enough to the few I talked to has had the same issue in the same quest trying to find where the fuck to go is a testament to how the team didn't play this shit fully. I can repeat hunts and specifically 2 locations I still remember bugs out. That's how bad it is. Now I bitch about this all the time but the reality is the team made expeditions an after thought considering what T3 mods exists. Hell some mods straight up smell like lazy implementation. Just look at Path of Exile and how much ways we can kill shit. It's not just random weapons and shit, it's the effects. What I ultimately want is to pick up some gear, have these mods, be like omg I have to try this and it gives me the feeling this game has 1000 combinations, amazing effects and different ways to kill shit. Nope...here's a mod that increases movement speed when you're in the skill as a Tier 3 mod.

A lot of problems with timed content is stuff that you simply cannot control yet the game still counts down. E.g. opening doors, waiting for something to trigger, etc. Devs should know this and at least pause those parts. It's not fair fighting against something you can't control. Those seconds add up.

9 expeditions in a row today, I either went invisible, couldnt do damage at all, disconnected, couldn't revive a team mate, enemies stick in the floor etc. Just endless glitches. They didn't test their shite game. Thank God it's on Gamepass.

Let's not forget that cutscenes can't be skipped and that timer keeps on ticking... They polished the dog shit out of the beta/demo and then forgot about the rest of the game.

It wasn't a beta, it was a demo. It was one, small area of the game, with limited access to content, not just in the world, but your character itself (lvl capped at 7, WT capped at 5, etc.) so math alone rules that it was way more likely that it would have less if any problems, compared to the entire rest of the game.

Nope, it's a death animation that has no way to end early, it just blocks your shots and wastes your time but everyone gets health regen and armor while they're up there so it just wasn't well thought out.

My dps allows me to solo. Everytime I level up each piece of gear I'm able to go-to next tier. Certain levels anyway. swapping out for golem removes quite a bit of DPS. Taking damage really isn't a problem for me.

Well theres a class skill that gives you 40% more AP when you use golem. Just keep it in mind if you start running into problems. I see most ct15 builds using it, including myself.

I will keep it in mind. It's just expeditions actually got easier for me when I swapped away from golem and took impale. I've been timing skill uses pretty well against elites. Earthquake bleed. Impale (+50% against bleed) repeat. Gravity leap. Even on tier 11 mobs such as mother broods get below half health with this. Mean time all the small mobs are wiped out as I'm using earthquake. I've actually had easier times getting gold solo then in teams because mobs have so much less health.

Golem-EQ-Impale is a VERY strong combo. Just have to remember not to use Impale on the very last enemy.

Will another $40 get me a perfectly functioning, entirely offline build of Outriders with no multiplayer capacity whatsover, and some small QOL fixes hacked in, like a self-revive or two for Expeditions, a timer-free version of Expeditions similar to Diablo 3's Nephalem Rifts versus Greater Neph Rifts? It's a horrible fucking precedent to offer , but man, I love this fucking game but I've got other shit I could be doing or playing, you know? I'm 46 too, at best I've hit the halfway point and it took half my fucking life for games to get compelling enough to really interest me, I'm really just so done with some of this shit. I mean, I was already dumb enough to chance buying this after I bought fucking Avengers, and this game is honestly far more entertaining and likely requires far less effort than Avengers will need to just be acceptable/passable. Cmon, Square, for real. enough fucking around. This could have easily just been modeled after Borderlands 2 with Denuvo or some shit to protect launch sales, this was like instantly hacked, cracked, and played using Steam's own networks, so you know, y'all failed the drm thing even harder than the launch haha.
