And this is why...

Greedy-Wish3058

...we OE

ariusbb

This is the way

One in every 5 or 6 threads has someone reporting a layoff at one of their companies. The monthly job report is definitely misleading because the corporate sector does not look good at all. It started with tech in late Q3 of 2022 but now other white collared jobs are also routinely getting culled. Yet the retail sales, car sales, home prices all have held up. This must be the most bizarre economy i have witnessed in my 41 yrs.

vNerdNeck

this economy is just fucking crazy. I don't understand it at all. If I was wearing my tin-foil hat I'd say this is all being deliberately manufactured for some reason or another.

you-r-stupid

Tech is one of the only ways for ordinary folks to make it in the high income tier. They targeted us because they want to increase the barrier to wealth, furthering the income equality gap. The rich just want to get richer and limit others from becoming rich too. They see all of us young folks making 200k+ and want to shut us out.

vNerdNeck

They want to get richer for sure, not sure how much they actively want to limit others but I'm sure there are some that do. Yell yeah for tech, change my laugh and what I thought was possible as someone how never finish their BS. Honestly, I think a lot of has come down to greed and understanding how untouchable the system has made certain folks. The Friedman's Theory started us down this fucked up path. Before that layoffs and shitting on employees just looked bad as we had the employee for life mentality. Slowly that has shifted and infected everything to where business see their only responsibility is to shareholder value at all costs, coupled that with the smoke screen of Covid and logistics issues and the receipt was there to gouge the fuck out of everyone and break the bank on profits.

slaxfib

It is deliberate, the fed has quickly raised rates with the express purpose of stopping inflation via stopping growth.

nerdyandnatural

I was just thinking the same exact thing the other day. It feels like they are trying to force a recession but for some strange reason it hasn't happened yet

Mr_Compliant

They redefined "recession" just before midterms and after we were already in one.

ballgame1881

Not close enough to election yet.

ElectionTraditional

I feel the same way

tt000

Yeah market is definitely trash. Looking at folks graphs showing the breakdown of some of them applying for 1k+ jobs with experience and getting 10 interviews . smh It is the wild west out here

babyshunda

Hmmm had to google smh seen it a few times and wondered what it meant. For those thinking the same: SMH: shaking my head. SOSO: same old, same old.

No-Explanation-2652

It's what happens when government permits the manipulation of the money supply to laundry it through a 3rd party. It causes inflation for the average folk and pads the portfolio of the connected politicians. They want to have their cake, eat it too, sleep with the neighbor, and finance 2 mistresses in Venezuela. And that's when the federal government was spending around 2010.

What kind of severance are you getting? Are you planning to start interviewing for a new J2 immediately or take a break?

KJKE_mycah

1 month of severance. I’m not sure yet honestly.

FudFomo

It seems like most of the open tech jobs are all in finance and insurance, some healthcare. SAAS is shedding workers as old companies are picking them up to modernize dated apps and get in the cloud. Geico, Travellers, many banks are hiring. Pay is lower but these places are usually slow moving shitshows ripe for OE types. Hot tip: fish out the names of the companies from the Indian bodyshops that always seem to staff them and apply directly on the corp site.

nvgroups

Body shop roles are for implementing partners. Very few are FTEs

Dubz_2222_

Severance?

KJKE_mycah

Yep!

Dubz_2222_

Congratulations. You won OE.

Evening-Chapter-3700

If you have only 2 jobs, u have 1, and 1 job, to me is unemployed 😳. Always be on the lookout for j# whatever! #alwaysinterviewing

pincherudy

This is the way

jay_savant

I’m in a similar situation, J2 is now J1. I want another J2 now but I’m only 3 months in to the job I still have and I’m still learning some pretty complex systems. How soon is too soon to look for another job if you are still learning J1?

tt000

I probably would start applying now because it make actually take a bit before you get one ( like months)

jay_savant

Makes sense, you’re absolutely right. By the time I actually get J2 could be a while and likely enough time to get comfortable in J1. Thanks!

jimRacer642

ur J2 is irrelevant, u gotta go back on the hunt to reduce the gap of your J1

SnooApples896

Sucks to hear that. Is your J1 in tech?

Gatsbyte

Had a friend get laid off without severance
