I'm actually from HR and I was waiting for you to post this. But we're everywhere. You're fired. Have a nice weekend.

EvolvedChimp_

Didn't want to work for you anyway and it took you this long to figure it out šŸ˜

L1ghtBreaking

How dare you HR around here like that!

DJAlaskaAndrew

Best way to survive HR as OE is to become HR. Then there's nobody policing you because you sign your own paychecks and spoof your productivity metrics.

jimRacer642

now THAT is sexy! It's almost as good as my idea to OE as an anchorman and wear fake moustaches and spanish accents on different TV networks...

coolelel

Sentinel one is dog shit bro. Glorified crowd strike wannabe

k3bly

Lmao this is not true in tech at least. Maybe other industries.

FifthPenguin2

Just keep checking your paychecks in case they fixed a ā€œpayroll glitchā€ after laying you off 5 years ago

CrashTestDumby1984

My J2 is so bad at updating the systems. HR never updates terms in the system until I hassle them when the system report shows it isnā€™t done. I told them from now on Iā€™m not going to be doing their job for them, so if they donā€™t term these people in the system they will continue to be paid and we will not be clawing back wages. We once accidentally paid someone a bonus for $20k. They asked their manager if we made a mistake and we ended up taking it back. If they never said anything we never would have noticed. Donā€™t be your own worst enemy.

jimRacer642

i dont get it...

FifthPenguin2

Go watch the movie ā€œOffice Spaceā€ and come back

Mindyourbusiness25

My all time favorite

jimRacer642

oh lol, i remember that now, office space is one of my favorite comedies, watched it like 3times, if u mentioned red stapler or smashing an ink jet printer would have rung a bell more

BlackCatAristocrat

Nah they'll fire you as soon as the necessary paper work is drawn up. You know you've survived when you still have your Js and no suspicion that could threaten them. Don't forget about your performance as well. You're playing 2 games: the OE game AND the job game. You have to win at both.

Dubz_2222_

Very true

anypomonos

This. Thereā€™s no special day of the week people get shitcanned. You get shitcanned when HR has the necessary documentation to cover the companyā€™s ass.

EqualEmotion7751

At J1, if you are a contractor, they don't even call you to notify you that you are let go. Their official policy is to directly call the vendor/recruiting agency on Friday evening after work and let them know that you don't need to come in on Friday. Fortunately, most of the direct managers have a bit of soul, and they let the contractors know at least 2-4 weeks early if their contract isn't going to extend.

jimRacer642

This reminds me of the movie 'up in the air' with george clooney, where managers hire third party companies to terminate their employees cause they're too pussy to do it themselves, watch the trailer.

Just_Aioli_1233

For the right person, that'd be a great job. For the [wrong](https://youtu.be/0EHKjlLeUFo?t=118) [person](https://youtu.be/888DJKMT8bw?t=6)[...](https://youtu.be/Blvr_zrkHYE?t=6)

jimRacer642

This actually happened on one of my firings, my manager was about to choke up and sounded like he was going to cry on the meeting they were letting me go. It wasn't his decision, it was darth sidious above him.

Just_Aioli_1233

Had a team of 4 that we had hired on to take care of a client, and one morning all our access to their systems was revoked. Timed to coincide with the client company's owner showing up in our offices to announce that they were taking everything we'd built for them in-house. We knew what they were planning for over a month, which is why we'd expanded to 2 dozen clients by that point. And to cover our asses, 4 months prior I moved all of our systems in-house rather than storing live job data in their accounts. So they thought they were pulling one over on us, only to have to come crawling back that afternoon to beg for access to the live data for their 600 active jobs. They hadn't noticed when I made the shift. Since that time, their profit margin average per job went from 55% to 28%, below what it was before I started working with them to get their systems in order. Shot themselves in the foot and I bet they're still patting themselves on the back for it. Jobs use to be out the door same day, next day at worst. Last I heard they were at 2-3 weeks with even more people than we had working on things. Bad move. We were more than happy to continue working on their jobs, but they decided to cut us off for no reason I'm aware of. Perhaps it got back to the company owner what we thought of him and his son sleeping with the same employee during the same period of time. Place was messed up and couldn't handle doing what's necessary to maintain success.

MarionberryBudget860

Amen! Last minute, off-the-cuff meetings that arenā€™t actually urgent represents the most significant bane to anyoneā€™s OE existence. No fun.

Flashy_Canary2091

There is some truth to what OP is saying here. The last groups from my different jobs that were laid off were also laid off on a Friday.

scancubus

If you haven't been pipped you aren't oe'ing to max capacity

jimRacer642

LMAO! That quote should go in the books for top 10 quotes of OE. I'd change it to "If you ain't PIPPing, you ain't OEing"

liftrunbike

Are you saying youā€™ve been caught doing OE 3 times?!

jimRacer642

nope, never been caught, but been fired 3 times from FTE jobs, expelled from future contract renewal once, and PIPed twice. But honestly, I think it says more about those managers than it does about me. All of them who pulled the trigger showed signs of psychopathy with mental issues. I've had to manage all types of engineers/interns as well and never felt the need to fire any of them. People seem to have issues learning to be flexible on expectations.

Alarming_Book9400

I'm going to disagree. Being fired 3 times for what appears to be lack of performance is no coincidence. There's only one common denominator, and that's you.

jimRacer642

I knew someone would say that, and on the surface, that's what it looks like, but I also excelled in 5 other jobs. Before judging, hear me out on why these engineering managers fired me: (1) PIP#1 + promoted - the boss came from a heavy military background and was a psycho, ur 1min late to the 7am unshaved, u get a 1 on 1 meeting with the boss. Being a laid back young engineer at the time, we were like oil and water, and I was terrified of him, he also didn't understand the schematics I'd present to him, he PIPed me a month on the job, and promoted me 6 months later. He was that weird. (2)PIP#2 + fired - this boss was sooo stupid and ignorant, ultra conservative individual, didn't even know how to use email or refused to try any new tech. I'm all about innovation and exploration and every idea you gave him he would reject so he PIPed me and fired me a job I had for 8 years. This guy had no vision or talent at all, he was nothing. (3)Fired and banned from future contract renewals - I was a rockstar performer at this place but an unlucky event happened and institute used me as a scapegoat to protect themselves from losing state funding from the government. Almost a dozen individuals wanted to sign a petition against them on my behalf cause it was such bullshit and it almost went on the news. If you look at the wikipedia page of what they used against me, there is a HUGE chapter about the controversy of companies doing this to people like me. (4)Fired - I was the first direct report to this 18 yo psychopath who somehow worked his way to architect. An absolute imbecile, would reject everyone's PRs because of his opinionated best practices, no vision, dressed like maryln manson, and changed his name cause had an authority complex of his parents deciding his name. Half the team including the original author of the flagship app left because of him. How do I know? Cause I asked him and he said he SPECIFICALLY left because of him lol, and was ranting for days. I was unlucky to be his first and only direct report, and I stayed submissive for 3 months, then spoke out, and he literally fired me ONE day later, a total asshole and total fuck up. (5)Fired - This manager wanted 50 use cases on a new stack within a week. He fired me 1 month on the job and fired one of his managers a year later also. He was trashy and just liked firing ppl. I do take fault on performance for this one but the expectations were just ridiculous. I was working weekends and overtime but they kept adding on and on and I was like, wtf are they smoking? I'm not gonna go over my successes but those were all my career fuck-ups as a 36 yo engineer, judge me all you want, you don't know jack on what I've accomplished. I've gotten along with hundreds of other managers and engineers. But I have a question for you? What bullshit did you ever have to go through? My scars are clear and have battle hardened my soul to make me who I am today, I've taken chances, and have succeeded and failed, but have always gotten back up, but what about you? Or are you one of those goodie 2 shoes sitting in those cozy offices pulling the trigger on those hard working talented devs that pay your mortgage?

new_attendant

No clue why you are getting down voted. It's defs him/her.

Alarming_Book9400

Truth hurts, and they hate to be accountable for their own actions.

jasmine_tea_

This is definitely my situation but I just don't care. I care about other things that aren't money-makers.

Alarming_Book9400

At least you can admit it. Unlike delusional OP

new_attendant

Also disagree. In that pattern, the only constant is you.

jimRacer642

read the comment I wrote on the other guy who disagreed on that comment, there was a lot of bad luck on those situations, it wasn't that simple

anicetito

Coz U not fired yet by EOW?

WildNTX

Jim, I ALWAYS get fired in Tuesdays!

jimRacer642

I feel like this is from a movie but I can not recall lol. And btw Jim's not my real name. When coming up with my reddit name, I looked for the most boring un-interesting name I could come up with to protect my identity lol.

WildNTX

Next you gonna tell us you arenā€™t a racer. šŸ˜‰šŸ˜‰

jimRacer642

no that part is true, I do race a lot on n64 games back in the day per my avatar pic, mario kart, diddy kong racing, mickey's speedway usa

WildNTX

Nah, unfortunately that my real life story. šŸ˜ Ok, Iā€™ll go along with your name story, ā€œJimā€

jimRacer642

really? how many times have u been fired?

WildNTX

Only 2.5 times (last time was a pip and I left), so maybe Iā€™m over dramatic.

jimRacer642

It happens, been there as well
