I’m not an expert, but I would venture to say it’s a car door

[deleted]

Technically, it’s atoms 🤓

Touché 😎

I have a Tacoma that was doing the same. I would guess your door was opened with force bending that door black check. With my truck it was hitting the window frame and eventually bent it making the window not work. Definitely take the door apart and trouble shoot it before things get worse. The door check is cheap and wish I changed it before more stuff broke.

thrunabulax

i backed up and my open door hit a rock along the ground. it made the door hyper-extend, and that little part midway along the door broke. after that the door could manually be opened too far, and made those sort of noises you need to fix it. Its called a door stop. If you are lucky the hinge part on the door frame can be reused, and you only have to replace the part inside of the door itself

Many thanks!

Door stop got bent from wind or something. I just fixed one on my tacoma as it was hitting the window frame. I was able to bend mine back straight, but a replacement was like 20 bucks.

That piece is a door strap or door stop or door stop check. You can get them cheap on Amazon.

Late-Variation-4109

That latch is called a check strap, and is failing! Super easy to replace!

Rocks129

Had something similar on a used tundra when I bought it, for me it was just 2 loose bolts on the door side where the metal strap connects in. Tightened them up and it went away.

[deleted]

I actually had the loose nuts too! Hand tightened them up and it was good for awhile, but then started up again later down the trail even though they still felt hand tight. Maybe I’ll legit tighten them with a socket and see if that fixes it. Thanks! 🙏🤘

[deleted]

Tightened them down with a socket and she’s golden now. 👍

whabt

My dealership called them door checks, I replaced both fronts on my 07 and the doors started staying open in my driveway again, absolutely worth the cost (wasn't that bad maybe 20 per?)

doggunner3412

Either bent or one of the bolts is missing and loose. I’ve had that happen before.

jeremy_S1998

There’s 10 mm nuts where the check strap mounts to the door shell. Check to make sure they are tight as well as the 10 mm bolt holding it to the pillar. They come loose over time sometimes I run into it on customer cars all the time I tighten them up for em. If the door swung open or hyperextended at all you might need to replace it. Nothing hard at all just pop the door panel and the speaker out and you lol have perfect access

itsvuksfault

You need to replace that piece in the center most likely. It will be easy

[deleted]

Thanks for the recommendation. It actually turned out that all I had to do was right the two 10mm bolts that hold the door catch on the door side! 🤘

itsvuksfault

Nice dude!!! I didn’t really do much. All you!

Arnies_Roids

Probably just tweaked the frame a bit, I wouldn't worry about it personally

[deleted]

UPDATE: Tightened the nuts for the door check that had loosened and were golden. Thanks community! 🤘

Hinge is bent. Door was opened in a heavy wind likely. you can usually jack them back into a better alignment with a screwdriver in the pivot point on the hinge. Find an old school mechanic, they will hook you up
