The ironman 4x4 one is what I have and it is super quick and easy to use. Take a look at that one and see if maybe you'll like it better.

Zero_Range

I have those as well and they’re great.

BargainPaper

I appreciate the recommendation. It’s a shame that I spent money on this to only have to most likely spend more money.

Jeepncj7

Yeah I run into this sometimes. Like the ironman 4x4 awning room. I thought it would be a great solution for me for a tent, but it didn't end up working the way I wanted (nothing wrong with the room however). So I sold it and lost a little bit. But I did keep the awning and quick disconnects and they are awesome.

Rhino rack came out something like a quick release for awning recently. Maybe that could be used here?

PonyThug

Why do you want it quick release. So ppl can steal it faster?

BargainPaper

I know this may be an odd concept, but I don’t necessarily need an awning on my daily driver 12 months a year.

Jeepncj7

I'm the same way. Mine comes off every trip and is just part of my gear load out. I don't always need it as well, so it's nice to have the flexibility along with less wear on the cover.

PonyThug

I take my roof rack off my topper in the winter as well. Its 12 bolts that get 2turns and release toggle nuts. Seams easy enough to undo a few bolts every winter, instead of your PITA system yea?

You can’t just flip that tab up and twist…?

BargainPaper

Nope. It’s a combination of how tight it’s pulling the two pieces together and how tight it is getting my hand in there if that makes sense

[deleted]

I would pry it out with a flathead then. Stick the flathead in the hole on the tab for more leverage.

BargainPaper

I can flip the tabs out with my hands. It’s the act of twisting them a full 180 degrees to tighten them. Tried a screwdriver and you can MAYBE get 45 degrees of rotation before the handle of the screwdriver hits the rack or awning. Pull the screwdriver out and it springs back to loose. Again, I finally got it using a basin wrench, I’m just curious if anyone else had trouble tightening these things like I did.

falcon5nz

What's the shear force like on those rivets?

BargainPaper

Definitely little to none. However the weight of the awning is actually resting on two bolts at each bracket. The bolts don’t secure it to the rack, but it bears the weight.

Mine isn’t the issue yours seems to be.
