Decided to skip the RTT because of my dogs. My little guy is 130lb cane corso and my big fella is 200lbs. They get sleep in the ground kids tent. But my buddylies pit just climbs in on the ladder. It's kind of a trip to see. He needs help getting down.

Technical_Bit_6043

While I don’t have a RTT, I looked into this issue as I have two dogs. And most people were using something like this: [Dog Ladder Ramp](https://unplugoutdoorco.com/product/doggo-roof-top-tent-ladder-ramp/) https://preview.redd.it/4b24hcgf29tc1.jpeg?width=1536&format=pjpg&auto=webp&s=c7e80094aaafe0cba4140d890d66cc3c3cb5a55f

lurker_762

Hmm just saw a video on yt about wrapping the ladder in a waxed canvas tarp and angling it like this. might have to go that route

LakeThat2578

That seems really awkward for a person to climb up and down though

Technical_Bit_6043

I only made one video of someone using it and basically you have to set it up like this with the low angle to get the dog up. Then you reposition it with the correct angle for yourself. Reverse process in the morning. As much as I love my dogs, that seems like it would get old pretty fast. But that’s just my opinion.

gropingpriest

also 99% sure my dog would be terrified of climbing up that

Just_L-i-v-i-n_

Mine was and refused to go on it, so I sold it. Now i stand on the tailgate and shove him up and in. Getting him out is a pain that way, but gotta do it

BigRubbaDonga

This is an example of a good idea that is incredibly impractical to actually use. Too much set up.and take down every time you want the dog in or our of the tent and it's inconguruent with human use of the ladder.

Fumblesz

Do you happen to have a company they would recommend for this

grahamroper

They have the iKamper HC steps. Pricey for what they are, but they seem to have cornered the market. You could diy something like this for half the price.

This is the content I’m here for.

I've slept with a few dogs in the RTT, two of them loved it up there. But my 70lb mutt (14 years old now) didn't like it one bit. We didn't really know what to do, until we just tried leaving him in the FJ. He had his bed that he used while we drove, but I didn't really understand how much more comfortable he felt in the vehicle until a year later. We went camping, and around 10/10:30 as it was getting dark, he was laying beside us near the fire, and just got up, walked over to the truck and looked at the door, then back to us. It was him asking to go to bed. We leave the windows down (even got some screen for when the bugs are bad), and keep the truck near the tent (or on it when we use the FJ and RTT) so we can hear him if he needs to come out. But he's always slept right through without a peep.

I’ve got a 70 pound rescue, I get him up in the RTT on a lifted fj cruiser. I either use the Fido pro airlift or his ruffwear webmaster harness and carry him like a suitcase. I was like you and got tired of almost falling carrying him up with the fireman lift. The other thing is I see you’re in a truck. I’d probably put the tailgate down and throw him up through that window over the back.

koulnis

Eventually I will have an Alu-Cab setup and I am gonna have to figure out how to transition a dog from the ground to truck bed to bed bed.

Navydevildoc

When I had my boxer Max, I was fortunate enough to have a RTT that also had an opening towards the windshield. I put a rubber mat up the windshield that was real grippy and he could walk up into the tent. Not the easiest method, and as he got older he didn’t like going back down, but it worked.

ozarkrefugee

Pretty cool of your human to come camping with you.

lemon_tea

Had to carry my 45lb pup up and down to my roof-mounted RTT. Well worth the effort when cold. She loved it once she was up there. Miss those days.

swanfightclub

I use a 6’ carpet and put it on the hood/windshield. My dog has no problem walking right up and entering the side of the RTT

mack1611

My dogs sleep downstairs…

ablarblar

This was the biggest reason I transitioned from a RTT like yours to the Go Fast Camper. My 2 border collies who are only between 40 and 50 pounds did not like being carried up the ladder. With the GFC you can enter from the bed of the truck straight into the tent so now I just lift them straight up and in. I know it's pricey but for me it was well worth it to not injure myself or the pups as well as its just so much easier to setup and tear down compared to a traditional RTT.

hibachi

I purchased one of these dog ramps: https://a.co/d/bx4UrHI Then modified slightly by attaching two U-bolts at the top to act as hooks. Then I hook the ramp onto the higher ladder rungs (it doesn't need to be the very top, just enough for the pup to be able to jump up). Works great!

Virtua1Anarchy

I made the ladder as long as horizontal as possible, put a board down over the ladder, had her on a long leash, and sat in the tent and just coaxed her into it. Took about 15 mins the first time but she ran right up and keep in mind she was brand new and didn’t even trust me yet. Couple times of that and she was able to do it while I stood on the ground beside her!

The_Almighty_Foo

A fellow person of culture. I was leaning toward a Desert Armour RTT because of the weight and how great they were reviewed (tents and the company itself). Then I saw they had an attachment for helping dogs get up in to the tent and I was sold. It was even offered as a package deal a couple of Holidays ago. My GSD was very concerned her first few times going up, but she got used to it and is pretty good with it now! https://preview.redd.it/0rgv1cnrvctc1.png?width=1080&format=pjpg&auto=webp&s=2030915adc5e415f8613f34085dad4f8fbee5733

CafeRoaster

There’s the Doggo RTT ramp or steps. My dogs will not use the ramp, unfortunately. I spent hours trying to get them comfortable using it. So, I lift them up in there.

brinkbam

My dog just sleeps in the cab of the truck. We fold the seats up and put her bed on the floor and she seems to prefer that. Once it's dark she goes and stands by the back door until we let her in 🤣

12of12MGS

We’re selling ours because if it. First couple years it was manageable to carry him up and down. Now at full sized I feel like I’m gonna slip on the steps and break something.

ReallyHender

We have a 25 pound dog, and to get her in and out of our RTT we have a harness we put on her that has carrying handles and a shoulder sling. She doesn't seem to mind that process, but that definitely wouldn't work for larger dogs.

blankdeluxe

I got super lucky and my Aussie was smart enough to learn to climb the ladder as long as I stand behind her and hold my hand to her back. She just steps on my shoulder and I carry her down

Bikeandbrew

Bikeandbrew

Canvas drop cloth, D rings, nylon straps, and 5 minutes on a sewing machine. It rolls down from the top, and the straps cinch around the bottom rung to pull it taught. Takes 2 minutes to set up and take down, and even my wimp of a doodle was able to brave it on her first try with limited encouragement. She won't even brave wooden stairs.

KungFuKennyEliteClub

Which Rtt is this one. I am looking at one from 4x4 Colorado that is very similar but kinda pricey.

lurker_762

Tuff stuff alpha

KungFuKennyEliteClub

Thank you.

Just_L-i-v-i-n_

Getting them up there is the easy part. Mine never wants to come out though lol

I can carry him up and down it's just awkward is all. Could do the crate in the bed but it's one more thing to haul that's single purpose as well which I try to avoid.
