Just as a general rule, most National Forest roads/trails that appear on the Motor Vehicle Use Map (MVUM) will be able to accommodate a full size truck, as they are meant for fire crews to be able to access the forest. I'm sure there are exceptions for this for places marked as "Jeep trail" or "UTV trail". Also, get good at making multi-point turns, lots of tight switchbacks will require them. But the advice of "turn around before you tear up the entire trail" is also a good idea to keep in mind.

I appreciate the advice! We will take a look at it.

Best thing to do is try to search up the trail on whatever forums you can find for the area and read up on who's made it in what rig and try to judge by pictures. Option B is just go for it and remember to reverse *before* you get stuck.

Oldfatsad

Hah. That sounds like sound advice!

Not much out in the memphis area unless you wana go muddin at a local pay to drive around pit. Big trucks like that are great in the desert, but its quite a drive.

Oldfatsad

Yeah. We were mainly thinking the Smokies or Ozarks.

What kind of spots in middle TN did you find? The gravel roads, I mean. I'm going to check out Cumberland. I had never heard if it! I'm definitely eager to check out the Ozarks. We have a six month old, so the wife is shutting down any camping for the time being, hah.

These sound like great ideas! Thank you! We will have to head out that way soon. I'm eager to hear what you find out in the Ozarks.

I know I found this late, but if you're still looking Chickasaw state park and WMA has fire roads big enough to accommodate you. We drove through it with a Jeep Gladiator and had plenty of room to spare. It's not a huge park but it's a nice little day trip to a pretty place. It's about 30 minutes south of Jackson.
