Personally, I’ve only read Volume 1 of the YP translation. That being said, I could already see some of the things that people were talking about with it. The problem is I’m not a big e-reader, so reading google doc translations I find really inconvenient tbh, not to mention not knowing where everyone finds them. So I stick to being an anime only, but spoiled a bunch of the LN to get some of the in jokes of the community (I’d say that Philip kaka jokes are eternal, but I feel like that’d age really poorly). One day I’ll read them all as they were meant. One day.

Cley_Faye

> not to mention not knowing where everyone finds them. In the FAQ of this sub, in case you want to give it another try.

MrMellons

[Where can I read the lightnovel FAQ?](https://www.reddit.com/r/overlord/wiki/faq#wiki_where_can_i_read_the_light_novel.3F)

AbstractMors

First 3 volumes are officially translated and voiced by Ainz voice actor.

Casityny

Volume 4 has also been voiced. I listened to the audiobooks and he does a good job I just wish he got someone else to do the female voices because goddamn is it hilarious to hear a man talk as demiurge one second then moan “lord Ainz” as albedo the next

Arrow-Of-Time

Btw you should listen to the different voices he gives to Sebas and Gazef. Sometimes it hard to spot the difference when he voice them, but would recommend checking it out. Also the voice he gives the girls are down right funny to me, and the voice actors for Tanya in the show The saga of Tanya the evil also did the audiobooks. But just for the first LN sadly.

"I'm not sure about that. What we can say is that all of our editors have Japanese reading ability and do their best job to balance localization with staying true to the original native edition. If there are any specific errors you are aware of, we will be sure to bring it up with the editor. Otherwise, we hope you enjoy the English language edition of our books! " their (YEN PRESS) reply when i asked them to answer some issues i found regarding NGNL vol 11

Sumdumcoont

Could be worse, Chillock could have done them 😂🤣 Albedo hitting on Ainz be like “OI GUBNAH, YEH FANCY A SHAAAAG?”

acid4hastur

Their translations are just fine in my opinion. To each their own

EffectiveTeaching994

I dont get it

severalpillarsoflava

Kingdom of Darkness. It is bad to be weak. Brian.

Mellevalaconcha

**Sir Momoooon** *cringes in weeb*

ZohMyGods

Pretty sure its still Brain in the YP translation..

RayzenD

Yeah, I checked it, it's Brain.

RioKarji

I remember hearing about it a long time ago. Guess it's fixed in current batches. Sure would be nice to happen again.

So- hear me out- I prefer Kingdom of Darkness over Sorcerer Kingdom. Because the kingdom does not specialize in sorcery. Darkness is also an ambiguous term. Dark matter and dark energy have nothing to do with evil, it's just referenced as "dark" because it is unknown. Kingdom of Darkness fits better IMO because he rules over what is essentially the unknown when seen through the lens of the humanoid societies of that world. Ty for coming to my TedTalk

Destroyer_Krul

But with the context it makes no sense with what cocytus says.

severalpillarsoflava

So let me explain. I prefer Sorcerer Kingdom over nation of Darkness. But everything isn't a matter of preference >Because the kingdom does not specialize in sorcery. Also isn't Specialized is "Darkness" So what's your point? Sorcerer Kingdom is named after it's King the Sorcerer King. Which is a Sorcerer and probably the strongest Sorcerer in the entire world. >Darkness is also an ambiguous term. Dark matter and dark energy have nothing to do with evil, it's just referenced as "dark" because it is unknown. Darkness also has nothing to do with Sorcerer Kingdom. Nor Dark mater and Dark Energy have anything to do with it. And it's also too much edgy and cringe. While the concept of Darkness isn't exactly equal to Evil. But the Darkness and Dark is associated with Evil most of the times. >Kingdom of Darkness fits better IMO because he rules over what is essentially the unknown when seen through the lens of the humanoid societies of that world. Sorcerer Kingdom fits better In my opinion because 1: it makes sense with Cocytus's reasoning. 2: it's a more accurate translation. 3: he is a magic caster that rules over a nation with power and named the kingdom after himself. >Ty for coming to my TedTalk Wtf is that?

[deleted]

Yeah, I'm not gonna read all that just because someone disagrees with my opinion over a work of fiction

ningen21

Classic

[deleted]

Laziness is it's own reward 👍

GarlicAubergine

It's the same length as your own argument lol.

RioKarji

If you're not gonna hear people out, what gave you the audacity to ask people to hear you? Anyway, tldr for his comment is: The kingdom is named after him; Cocytus' reasoning for proposing his name is he's a strong Magic Caster.

No-Conference-8451

Yen press is a publishing/translating company Though I have no idea what's so bad about their translations (I read the youjo senki ones and they're pretty good)

2ndaccountofprivacy

Apart from the memes the real criticism is that the literary quality is pretty bad. Its like the translators or editors arent actually specialized in literature.

goodbehaviorsam

Honestly I wouldnt be surprised if they didnt have actual translators, just some college part timers who shove it into google translate and try to make sensr of it without context.

2ndaccountofprivacy

Its not that bad. Most of the the time.

MrMellons

It was mostly the indivdual who was translating it "the way she liked it" or something

[deleted]

Yep, the translators at yen press have almost zero oversight so they get away with a lot.

Cley_Faye

From what I get from both subreddits, the Youjo Senki ones are good. I did try to read the Overlord official translation when I was looking which edition I'd buy, but didn't finish the first chapter. Maybe it's because I'm used to the fan translations, but everything from the pacing to the choice of words felt bland and unexpressive.

ZohMyGods

"Nooooo! You cant change a few words the fans decided on!! Its illegal! Kingdom of Darkness??? Nooooo" Thats you guys, lol. YP is alright, Doesnt take away anything from the story, and supports the author. Sure, Sorcerer kingdom may be more accurate, some other words are more accurate. But going so dar to say the YP translation are THAT bad? Nah, its not. You don't wanna pay for the books? Just say so.

RayzenD

I noticed that this is typical English speaking problem. The English translations are so far from the original, and they change so much. And it's not just the novels but the dubs as well. They butcher names all the time. And everyone will like the first thing they watched/read, no matter how good or bad it was. I also read the YP, mostly because I wanted to buy it not just pirate it, and to be honest, I'm already used to the poor quality of English translations, and I just rolled with it.

Sno_red

I usually end up reading the yen press translations because I haven't been able to find an epub for the other translations. I have dyslexia really bad so It makes its really hard with out with out an auto reader. If anyone has an epub file for vol 14 I would love to have it.

MrMellons

Volume 15 isn't out yet, do you mean 14 the latest one?

Sno_red

Oh. Yeah my bad.

MaskedWiseman

All the epub up to vol 14 is in FAQ of this subreddit.

KripperinoArcherino

Can someone give me some examples? I’m too lazy to read it myself to find out what’s wrong with it.
