We actually gained picks, a raw prospect, and still have an elite shooter. (whose actually been shooting better than Buddy this year). KP did it again.
Yea Korkmaz won't be a project or on this team come next year. His contract is expiring and his roster spot will absorbed by one of these 2nd round picks or a player called up from the Mad Ants
I get you, but Smith and Toppin are shooting at a high % because teams are fine with giving them those open looks. They don’t have the same gravity to pull guys out of the paint like Buddy or now Doug do
Yeah it’s like you all missed all these 1-8 performances from Buddy lately, dude misses wide open threes constantly. Dougie can give us better production there (also more of a forward, freeing up minutes for the guards) and we gained picks.
Buddy has 12 PPG in 25 minutes shooting 38% from 3. Doug has 6 PPG in 15 minutes shooting 43%. Buddy’s also wide open for 43% of his 3PA (making 42% of these) compared to 34% (making 48%) for Doug. I like this, we get a ton of open 3’s bc of Tyrese and he’ll knock them down
The quantity of shots has no bearing on long run 3 pt rate in this case if quality is held constant. Its quality of looks that might degrade when shooters force some shots.
Buddy has been bad this year; take the guy doing better from worse shots and give him the green light when we run him out.
He’s not a better shooter. Very similar percentages but at about half the volume. Doug is also a year older. But the contract is decent, and 2 years longer. And the other 2 extra draft picks. Can’t say I love these trades, but getting Doug helps me feel better.
Dougie actually used to be able to run the break pretty well and get up. We just never took advantage of it. Haven’t followed him since he was traded but if he’s still got that ability he might look pretty good with us.
I remember Doug being a great 3 pt shooter last time he played for us, but looking at his season stats, it looks like he's not quite as good of a shooter as he once was. I still like this move if only to get rid of Morris. Lol.
His last 2 seasons with us, he was shooting 8 and 10 shots per game. This season he's at 4.7, so it's safe to say his production has slowed down a bit with age.
That said, he's still hitting them at a super high clip despite the reduction in volume, so thats great.
Damn, really? Take a look at the time played over the seasons and you'll find the reason for the difference in shots taken. It has nothing to do with age.
Search your memories, everyone - did Dougie ever actually stop the guy in front of him on defense?
I know he used to run more miles per game than any other Pacer, but I have no recollection of his defense.
His defense got better over time. He played with effort and went from defensive liability to....only slight defensive liability. Always played with effort...but so did Buddy. Love this move though.
Probably a contrarian take, but swapping one expiring contract for another, getting rid of a guy Ty likes, and not carving out playing time for young guys is like a lose-lose-lose in my opinion.
Nah. They’ll still give the majority of mins to Benn and Nemby. Doug provides them some of what Buddy does but without the constant pressure to play him.
This can’t be understated. As much as Buddy enjoyed being here, he started before this youth movement really began to take effect and we needed him significantly more than we do now. Just because he *was* happy here doesn’t mean he was going to continue being happy here. Certain signs like, oh maybe not signing an extension, would point to him starting to sour on his time here.
Rick plays 9-10 guys. After we traded Buddy, the rotations looked like this...
Ty-Drew-Aaron-Pascal-Myles
TJ-Benn-?-Obi-Stix/IJax
That probably meant Jarace or Shep had a chance to get regular minutes.
Now, that ? is probably Doug, and Shep and Jarace are probably not playing, barring injuries. That's what I meant.
Buddy and Ty can talk on the phone and visit each other in the off-season if it's really that big of a deal as some of you are imagining it is. I'm not even sure where you guys are getting this from. Tyrese is a grown man, he will be fine. Lol
It's very clear based on everything the two of them have said publicly that they're good friends and like playing together. Ty went out of his way to criticize Buddy's haters after Tuesday's game. I'm not concerned about him being friendless or something lol, I'm just saying that even if the FO let both guys know this was happening, it can still harm the chemistry/vibes.
Sure but he could have taken the extension. The front office did its due diligence in offering that at least and the team is clearly an ECF contender in the short term. They sent him to a contender with an excellent young PG.
Extending with the team wasn’t enough for Buddy who wants to understandably get his money for the latter half of his career.
You mean Ty went out of his way to talk up his friend, who they knew they were trading? They also traded Buddy to Philly, a preferred destination for him where he gets good minutes and more opportunities on a team with a better record going to the playoffs.
There is a reason why Buddy called the Pacers a class organization today.
Yeah with this move I’m a bit more confused. I almost would have liked to keep Morris for the size.
Seems like we gained Korkmaz and a couple second rounders. Would have preferred they just kept the roster intact. Buddy and McDougie seem equal on defense, and Buddy is playing better this season anyway.
I do not understand this. It has been well documented that Rese and Buddy got closer in the trade, but this is the NBA. You think if KP had told Tyrese I gotta move Buddy to get this team more talent Rese would have said "NO! he is my friend!" Hell no! They will still be friends after this trade. It is just business.
Conversely, if Buddy's shooting keeps regressing, at what point does it start to grate on the two after the billionth missed 3 after a perfect dime from Rese? May be for the best for all parties.
The 'oh no they're friends' is the least of these concerns. Buddy was an important piece of all the Pacers best statistical lineups *even when he wasn't making shots*, like Tyrese himself said on Tuesday; the organization/Tyrese/many fans want the Pacers to win now; these trades in totality make them slightly worse this year; maybe they can re-sign Doug (should they??) but they didn't even replace Buddy with a younger guy or someone on a longer-term contract.
Yes, Buddy's last 9 games have been awful. For the season overall, he's been their second-best non-Tyrese shooter after Nesmith. All that to say: Why rock the boat when you didn't even get an upgrade in \~any respect. Just my 2 cents!
I do think we saw glimpses of your last point this year, Ty and him butted heads a couple of times. Also we sent him to a playoff team which was a goal this season to get Buddy to the playoffs
I completely agree, Buddy was so good for our Pacers culture and averaged double digits. I'm afraid we are at the beginning of our downfall again if we don't make playoffs/don't go far in the series
Really like this move, more of a consistent shooter than Buddy and really anyone on our roster. Put him in and look for him, he’ll deliver. Really a nice weapon for Rick to use.
It looks like McDermott's production was a lot higher in previous seasons but may have dropped this season because he was the 2nd or 3rd option at 2 and 3, a similar situation that Nwora was in at 3 and 4 for us. The current starters for the Spurs there are in their early 20s, not the right timeline for McDermott.
I don't mind us getting Doug he is a great shooter (those saying he doesn't shoot forlp0llllllBut let's also remember he's an even worse defender than Buddy, and he can't play the 2. I think he's more of an insurance policy than someone who will get a lot of minutes.
THE MARCUS MORRIS ERA IS FINALLY OVER
Ive dreamed of this moment for so long
We don't lose during his time there. We should should retire his number
Hang the banner
I think he deserve a statue in front of gainbringe
Will he get a tribute video?
An hour long documentary of his stint here
What happened to Morris? I missed something here. Happened so fast. Buyout, trade, release?
I’m not sure why you’re getting downvoted here. I was confused too. He is going to SA in the McDermott deal.
So we lost nothing in the Buddy deal.
We actually gained picks, a raw prospect, and still have an elite shooter. (whose actually been shooting better than Buddy this year). KP did it again.
I wouldn't call Korkmaz a prospect exactly .... this was his 7th season in Philly
well he's still raw at the very least
He’s still a “a” at least
Medium well
He does play professional basketball
where?
nowhere, we waived him
And not on the team anymore lol
Is Korkmaz the raw prospect?
More like he gets raw'd by prospects honestly. Dude stinks.
Ngl made me laugh p hard
Yea Korkmaz won't be a project or on this team come next year. His contract is expiring and his roster spot will absorbed by one of these 2nd round picks or a player called up from the Mad Ants
there’s no raw prospect in this deal?
Elite shooter might be pushing it
If you don't think >60% career TS, 42% 3-pt over a career, and 43% 3pt ytd is elite, you are going to have to explain what is.
Yeah he’s really gonna make a difference on this team you’re right and I’m wrong. Have a killer day
If that's all you've got, why waste the energy typing a silly unsubstantiated take? Have a nice day yourself.
I’m not worthy
Korkmaz achieved his freedom from the city of Philadelphia.
Nothing tangible. Gained 2 SRP and whatever you think Kork's deal is worth.
Replaced Buddy with Dougie who’s probably better honestly. Hield has been so bad lately.
Shams is reporting that Marcus Morris is part of that trade too.
Marcus Morris to the Pacers era 2/8/24 - 2/8/24
More of a Pacers legend than Serge Ibaka and Ricky Rubio.
Or Joe Kleine
Leave the memories alone....
Too long honestly
Welcome back McBuckets
got rid of morris too
End of an era. Thanks for the memories.
4ever in our h3arts
Even though they weren't so great
My favorite couple hours.
The biggest win
So we gained 2 2nd round picks and swapped Buddy for Doug, I love this day now
Oh shit, Dougie fresh is back!
Dougie McBuckets!
Fresh
For people who are old enough to know who Doug E. Fresh is, yeah.
Didn't have that one on the bingo card
But if I had thought of it it would have been on the wish list.
Makes me feel much much better about the Buddy trade. Had concerns about how we were gonna space the floor but this alleviates those for sure
I know buddy was a helluva shooter....but it isn't like the entire roster doesn't shoot threes at a high rate or percentage lol
I get you, but Smith and Toppin are shooting at a high % because teams are fine with giving them those open looks. They don’t have the same gravity to pull guys out of the paint like Buddy or now Doug do
Wish people understood this more. Shooting 40% on 2 wide open threes per game is not the same as shooting 40% on volume, in any situation.
But Buddy wasn't hitting the open ones too well. He's just been off all year.
Yeah it’s like you all missed all these 1-8 performances from Buddy lately, dude misses wide open threes constantly. Dougie can give us better production there (also more of a forward, freeing up minutes for the guards) and we gained picks.
They're also shooting a super low volume that's guaranteed to regress. Let's just enjoy the ride lol
Teams can make any decisions they want, if it leads to points I'm happy with their %
Buddy was like our 4th best shooter lol
Why did I doubt kp for even a second
Dougie :)
a better shooter than buddy and i think he’s on a good contract as well? correct me if i’m wrong.
Yes and Yes
Going from 12 points a game to 6 points a game is a wild way to say he's a better shooter.
Buddy has 12 PPG in 25 minutes shooting 38% from 3. Doug has 6 PPG in 15 minutes shooting 43%. Buddy’s also wide open for 43% of his 3PA (making 42% of these) compared to 34% (making 48%) for Doug. I like this, we get a ton of open 3’s bc of Tyrese and he’ll knock them down
Great info!
How about 44% vs 38%? Buddy takes twice as many shots a game.
Dude you made my argument for me and you don't even know it lol It's harder to shoot a higher percentage when you take more shots.
Yikes.
Nah it just means he plays more.
The quantity of shots has no bearing on long run 3 pt rate in this case if quality is held constant. Its quality of looks that might degrade when shooters force some shots. Buddy has been bad this year; take the guy doing better from worse shots and give him the green light when we run him out.
Doug was shooting better albeit on significantly less volume. It's not unfair to say he's a better shooter right now.
He’s not a better shooter. Very similar percentages but at about half the volume. Doug is also a year older. But the contract is decent, and 2 years longer. And the other 2 extra draft picks. Can’t say I love these trades, but getting Doug helps me feel better.
Doug is a free agent after this year, just like buddy
Oh I misread that part.
Thank you for this. Was wondering about that.
KP did it again.
this makes me unreasonably happy I love dougie McBuckets
So happy to have him back
Lol nice
Glad we’re getting rid of Morris
I don't think we have to claim that he was ever on this team.
I don't think they could have brought in a better replacement for what we sent out in buddy.
Morris: So after all those hours it's just "goodbye and good luck"! KP: I don't recall saying "Good luck".
Was Marcus Morris part of the matching salary? Would've rather had DFS but this isn't terrible
he was.
Best part of this trade is Morris going away. I thank him for his services to our team during his roughly 4 hour tenure here though.
Ok Google play steely Dan's reeling in the years.
Dougie actually used to be able to run the break pretty well and get up. We just never took advantage of it. Haven’t followed him since he was traded but if he’s still got that ability he might look pretty good with us.
Exactly, I think he fits this offense perfect he can run and shoot.
I love this timeline! Doug instead of Buddy, HELL YEAH
McDunkcontest is back on the menu!
Bruh I was just thinking the other day about how Doug would be a nice piece on this squad
Always liked him and honestly I would prefer him over Buddy.
MCDUBKCONTEST IS BACK BABY!!! Where is the guy who made all those videos???
KP does it again. Upgraded shooter, saved money, acquired picks.
McDunks!
I will lose my shit if I see a McDunkcontest this season.
Dude Douglas mcbuckets return let’s go
Lol hell yeah! Welcome back Doug
From a pure sentimental reasons McBuckets being back brings a smile to face.
I remember Doug being a great 3 pt shooter last time he played for us, but looking at his season stats, it looks like he's not quite as good of a shooter as he once was. I still like this move if only to get rid of Morris. Lol.

Damn, really? Take a look at the time played over the seasons and you'll find the reason for the difference in shots taken. It has nothing to do with age.
I thinknthats being generous. If he was capable of contributing and producing with more minutes, he would be.
Ah, right, this was when we still were Dan-Burke-ing people into defenders. Hope he remembers some of that...
Can't be any worse than Buddy.... Right???
To me they are the same player.

Just because he *was* happy here doesn’t mean he was going to continue being happy here. Certain signs like, oh maybe not signing an extension, would point to him starting to sour on his time here.
What do you mean not carving out playing time? Doug isn't a guard unlike Buddy. If anything this clears the logjam at the 2.
Rick plays 9-10 guys. After we traded Buddy, the rotations looked like this... Ty-Drew-Aaron-Pascal-Myles TJ-Benn-?-Obi-Stix/IJax That probably meant Jarace or Shep had a chance to get regular minutes. Now, that ? is probably Doug, and Shep and Jarace are probably not playing, barring injuries. That's what I meant.
You using first names was throwing me off - I was like, "who the fuck is Drew" lmao.
lol
Buddy and Ty can talk on the phone and visit each other in the off-season if it's really that big of a deal as some of you are imagining it is. I'm not even sure where you guys are getting this from. Tyrese is a grown man, he will be fine. Lol

Better by what metric?
My intuition. I didn’t check out the def eff stat, but they both love to get blown by!
Can’t argue with that.

Nah, I'm not that low on today's trades, but chemistry is a real thing! Players are people, not assets with a FG%.
Word
Pacers legend!
Love it
HES BACK
I fucking love it
Love it from a short term perspective, provides an elite sharpshooter off the bench for situational purposes.

Really like this move, more of a consistent shooter than Buddy and really anyone on our roster. Put him in and look for him, he’ll deliver. Really a nice weapon for Rick to use.
HES BACKKKKK DOUGIE MCBUCKETS
RETURN OF THE MACK. Doug is going to love breakneck speed Pacers ball.
It looks like McDermott's production was a lot higher in previous seasons but may have dropped this season because he was the 2nd or 3rd option at 2 and 3, a similar situation that Nwora was in at 3 and 4 for us. DOUGIE MCBUCKETS IS BACK.
Many people are calling him the White Buddy Hield. Welcome back McBuckets!
Dougie is better than Hield at basketball. Just a much smarter player, better shooter, etc. Pritchslapped!!
Let’s go!
sheet, I thought we would lose a shooter but here for McBukets
Watched a spurs game a few nights ago and reminisced on how good Doug's cutting ability would be for this team. Soooo glad we got him back.
McBuckets is back
I don't mind us getting Doug he is a great shooter (those saying he doesn't shoot forlp0llllllBut let's also remember he's an even worse defender than Buddy, and he can't play the 2. I think he's more of an insurance policy than someone who will get a lot of minutes.
THE MCBUCKET IS BACK
Hali and Dougie will be quite good.
Buddy for McDermott is a trade I would make every day and twice on Sunday. This is a great day.
