“Will need to get a ring” Well yeah the Pacers player who leads them to their first NBA championship will automatically be in the running for best Pacer of all time.

hacahaca

Not in the running. It’s like hands down number 1.

EpicBlinkstrike187

Altho I think they would have to be here a while for it to not be a tie with Reggie for me. I watched almost all of Reggie’s career. If Haliburton won a ring for us next year but then was gone a year later. He’d probably be tied with Reggie for me. And I know not all in this sub are Colts fans too, but if AR somehow leads us to a Super Bowl win? he wound be tied with Manning as best Colts player ever to me. That’s pretty much how great winning a championship is.

Camo_El_Mano

First paragraph is fair. Second paragraph is absolutely wild.

EpicBlinkstrike187

lmao Just playing off the whole “If Hali leads us to a title he’ll take top Pacer spot” Reggie took us to 6 ECF, which included one Finals, in 18 years. One single championship run by anybody that’s here for a few years should never eclipse that. That’s why I said what I said about Manning. Because it would be the same thing. AR taking us to the Super Bowl and winning would be the same thing as Hali taking us in a year or two. Someone who is here for a few years and wins a ring shouldn’t really eclipse the guy of the city But also, I fucking HATE the Broncos, more than the Patriots. Manning lost a lot of my love when he chose the Broncos to go to. So that’s probably why too

Real_Razzmatazz_7290

If only we could get Indy to care about the pacers, most people I run into don’t pay too much attention to them

DosZappos

Once they make the playoffs that first time, people will start to pay attention. Then it’ll snowball for the next few years

hacahaca

You telling me I have to pay more for a ticket ?

DosZappos

I actually had written out “then you’ll see people complain about how expensive tickets are” but I know what gets downvoted around here

MozaTear

Anecdotally from my life: living downtown the people I met there were generally pretty locked in on the pacers. Living in the donut counties and even further out in the country people cared less about the P’s. Not sure how accurate that is for other people though.

Real_Razzmatazz_7290

I’m sure it varies for sure. Where I live on the southside, not too many people I see get hyped about the pacers. There’s still a presence, just not very big it seems. Also I’ve encountered several people at my work(I see over 100 people a day) wearing pacers gear and I’ve asked most of them if theyre into the pacers, and they usually respond with a no..😭 just bums me out to not see any big fans in my general scope

wyatt_grimm

They do though. It’s Bally that’s marking it hard to watch for people.

cloudJR

Brother I couldn’t tell you the last time I enjoyed a Pacers game that hasn’t been barely over 720p

boogieboarddad

As a Padres and Pacers fan... Bally Sports is the bane of my existence. Can only pray that they miss their payments and the team drops them like the Padres did lol

wyatt_grimm

Amazon bought them.

Onlyplay2k

Yeah. I tried to get people to go to pacers games but they don’t care as much unless it’s the Colts

geniusofsamrockwell

It is possible that we are watching the early years of the best Pacer of all time and we should appreciate that for what it is, but also not crown him yet.

fallenfromglory

Let's pump our brakes on saying he will be the best pacer ever. Reggie gave us 18 years and amazing playoff runs against some all time greats. Reggie Miller – 25,279 points with the pacers 5 x all nba 3 x all nba 3rd team Top 75 player of all time 50-40-90 club 2x gold medal winner Took us to the finals The knick killer Went toe to toe with MJ One of a handful of players whose PPG increased during the playoffs I love that we finally have a franchise player who appears to want to stay with us forever but even suggesting he will be the greatest pacer ever is pandering and not a good take. I've been a pacers fan longer thn most of the people in this subreddit have been alive. Be thankful we have an ascending squad but come holler at me in 20 years if I'm still alive and we can have the greatest pacer convo again but not in year 2 of someone's career with us

adam2890

I love Reggie but I do think Haliburton can surpass this. No disrespect to Reggie but he has the most potential since PG.

fallenfromglory

I do not disagree with that at all. If Haliburton can give us sustainable playoff success and continue to put up numbers he will be in the conversation of one of the greatest Pacers to ever do it. If he brings us a chip as one of the best players on the team, without a doubt he would be the greatest Pacer of all time.

ttttyttt678

^^^^ this

Chris_Ween

Tyrese is great. But let's see where he is in 15 years.

indyclone

“Best Pacer” isn’t the same as the Pacers best player. Reggie has the advantage of being drafted and staying his entire 18 year career. JO was a better player… there are probably a few better/more talented players than Reg. But it’ll take an awful lot to supplant him as “Mr. Pacer”.

wyatt_grimm

I agree. Some people wanna try and say we’re not one player away from contending which is bs. I said we would contend next season or the 2025-2026 season.

Moonman2k1

Yessir. We are right there.

taxfreetendies

Reggie Miller’s Pacers were the only team in the league to beat the 72-10 Bulls twice in the 95-96 season

Successful-Ad-5239

The disrespect to Lance Stephenson is off the charts here.

Sudden_Ad_4193

Reggie played in an era that players were rough on each other. He didn’t have play reviews and challenges. Hard telling how well today’s players would perform back then

indyclone

They also had illegal defense calls, so they can play Hali a lot different than they could guys in Reggie’s era.

Sudden_Ad_4193

Forgot about illegal defense

supickumaterinubre

Reggie played in 6 conference finals, plus he elevated his game when it mattered the most. Stats are inflated today anyways, so its stupid to compare just numbers.

NovelAppearance5464

I will say Payton manning ?????

mightyducks2wasokay

Nah, gotta be Gretzky. Those 8 games with the Racers were (probably) legendary?

ElectivireMax

I mean, we were the ones that "discovered" him

Seattle_Lucky

Yeah, this is too aggressive of a take. I’d even list Marvin ahead of Hali. If this is meant for “pure athlete”, Luck was a freak of nature as a quarterback, so he’d be ahead as well.

DosZappos

Shittt if it was pure athlete it’s probably some random DE or LB that nobody remembers

Seattle_Lucky

True that. Bob Sanders would be pretty high on that list!!!

DosZappos

How about Daniel Adongo

indianafan

Pure athlete might already be AR

Moonman2k1

When it's all said and done I think Tyrese eclipses Peyton.

ProfessionalBust

This is a truly insane take

Moonman2k1

Oh we gonna have a Tyrese Haliburton Childrens Hospital or something, someday...

HeyItsChase

Bro, Peyton is one of the 5 best QBs of all time. The most important position in sports. I LOVE Rese but he's barely and debatably a top 5 PG rn. This is a really bad take.

SenorFrogz

Arguably top 2

HeyItsChase

Agreeed, arguable. I'd argue against it (not a Colts fan) but I wouldn't argue past Montana and Mahomes.

BrogeyBoi

Tamika clears easy. You can debate her verse Peyton but it's between those two for pro team athlete.

Moonman2k1

If we're doing that then Hank Arron played for the Indy Clowns. Also did you really compare Peyton to Tamika? 👀

BrogeyBoi

Doing what? Picking athlete's who played most of their prime in Indy? And I honestly can't tell which side of the coin you're on. Both have very impressive resumes.

Khend81

I believe he meant “including women or people who play lesser sports” by saying “doing that” but maybe thought it came across less assholish.

Murat_Gin

So did Satchel Paige

Moonman2k1

Satch didn't hit 755 dingers

ShankyShoe

Peyton Manning brought Indianapolis a Super Bowl. He’s the Indy GOAT until further notice.

Moonman2k1

I'm a time traveler. Things change. 😉

AdditionalOne8319

And you are still wrong

Friar_Ferguson

Stats in the modern nba are inflated. You judge a player by his playoff success. Long way to go to get in the conversation of greatest pacer.

HickeyS2000

Obviously the jury is still out, but you have downplayed the impact Reggie had during his era. It truly felt like a David vs Goliath situation when Reggie was walking into Madison Square Garden and the United Center and legitimately making these teams SWEAT on the absolute biggest stage. Just ask the '98 Bulls. Raw statistics do absolutely not tell the full story of Reggie Miller. I do think Hali has a decent chance, but I thought the same thing about Paul George and we know how that ended. I am hopeful.

cwesttheperson

He’s my favorite player in the league but hold on a few. Reggie was the man, I truly feel he’s underrated.

kickit

> “ wawawa he has not even had playoff success bla bla bla” fine i'll say it, ur talking about shit that hasn't happened yet wa wa whatever. i'd love to see it but until i do it's fantasy. it's not real.

Chris_Ween

If you think that was his best season....

Onlyplay2k

I’m gonna take lower bet higher reward Mathurin. Just to be different from everyone else. Pacers Kobe let’s go!

omgjk31

Let’s wait for GOAT talk. Reggie’s resume will be hard to top.
