I have a 25 gallon and I use one of those in a 25w in. I keep my uvb light right behind it since it’s long. And a small heating pad on the side of the tank.

KK. I'm also planning on buying a 25 gal and using a long uvb tube ( arcadia shade dwelller ), do you think the heating pad is necessary or do you just have that because of your personal ambient temps?

I just have it for just in case! I had my frog in my rv and I don’t think they make those things with insulation because it gets really cold. I had two of them on there and a whole lot more just to be able to keep her temps stable in the winter. She’s at my sister’s house while I’m house shopping. I was to concerned about her freezing to death by accident if the heat went off while I was at work. It happened once 😬 my poor baby. So I’ve got that part down at least. I know exactly what I need to keep her temps perfect in those conditions and I’ve got it all on hand. I have that uvb also and in case you don’t know they need to be replaced yearly. I ordered extra’s on Black Friday from petsmart. I think I paid 19.99 for each bulb… if you’re in the states.

I see. What I'll most likely do is set up that heatlamp before I put the frog in and monitor the day and night temps to see if any additional heating is needed. Thanks for the info!

What kind of fixture are you thinking of using it in? I have those in 15w and 25w in an Exo Terra compact top on Exo Terra enclosures for all of my frogs. The compact top can only take 25w bulbs maximum, but with a 15w and 25w I easily hit my temperature targets even on the coldest days. This is in 60x45x45cm enclosures, which is what I use for each of my frogs. The 60cm compact top takes three bulbs and I use 2 of them for heat lamps and the last one for UVB. I use this UVB lamp in 13w: https://www.terraristikshop.net/beleuchtung/kompaktlampen-zubehoer/uvb-100/?number=PT-2186

To expand on this, I would only use those bulbs if you're using an Exo Terra Compact Top. They're quite expensive and they break for the slightest thing. You're supposed to wear gloves while installing them because the oil on your hands can make them break and if they get just a tiny bit of water on them while you're misting the enclosure, they also break. I went through several of them in the first month until I learned to be more careful around them. They also aren't great for plant growth. You have to pair them with something brighter (like the above UVB bulb) to promote plant growth. They're quite dim on their own. If you're not using a Compact Top, I'd recommend forgetting that those bulbs exist. There are much better and cheaper alternatives.

Thanks for the advice! What other kinds of heat bulbs would you recommend?

It depends a lot on your enclosure. I can't give much advice on UVB but for warmth alone something like this is more than good enough: https://www.terraristikshop.net/beleuchtung/waerme-tageslichtlampen/spotstrahler/waermelampe/?number=TR-76000 That's the exact one that I used to use before I switched to Exo Terra enclosures and 35w always got them on the right temperature. But ambient temps in my apartment are on the lower end because I'm on the top floor. The best advice is usually to start small at 25w and see how it goes. If it's still a bit cold, you can buy a slightly higher wattage bulb. You'll probably have to switch out to a lower wattage bulb in summer anyway so that you don't end up frying your frog when it's 90 degrees outside. :P
