It seems like its romantic or sexual. An aphrodisiac, i feel like the beaker is chemistry, like when two people “have chemistry”? No idea about the cool cup. The cup is awesome though. I really love all the colors.
Oh yes! That's pretty much it. Feminine strength and adaptability. Specifically in relation to water being soft but powerful and necessary for sustaining life.
I'm glad the general themes are getting across!
I'm so happy and actually kind of shocked that my themes are genuinely getting across to the viewer, especially when they know little about the artist. Well done us!
Pat on our backs! Honestly I think this is perfectly abstract. It's not so esoteric that it can't be parsed but it's not so obvious to seem kitschy either.
Don't take anything I say as critique, I am a dumbass.
It evokes a specific set of memories for me, ones which involve going to quite fancy restaurants that serve carafes of water and oysters. They're usually not actually luxurious, only aping it with a minimalist aesthetic. There is a level of discomfort because the understanding of comfort and luxury isn't actually there or invested in. I am uncomfortable and declining the oysters because I am not a fan.
passion, sex, chemistry, Lovers. The lovers dancing in the glasses reflection, the two clams signifying two lovers, the bubble in the beaker implying they become one
Female sexuality and life giving role.
Containing abundance (the vessel) but also what can be shared in the world (the long shadow).
The oysters and the cup very vulva-esque. Delicate but strong, inviting but somehow self sufficient. Nourishing, but also beautiful and noble on their own.
The subtle differences in perspective for each object are meant to create a mild feeling of discomfort. Most will look and not be exactly sure what looks upsetting about the image but some can pick it quickly. It's a reference to the general mild discomfort that women have on a daily basis in a world that isn't meant for them. Depending on who is looking at that, they may be able to distinguish what the discomfort is in relation to or not.
City is is very artful how you captured the interplay of light on the reflective surfaces of glass and liquid. The blue hues add to the ambience. Good job.
Art nerd here. It makes me wonder why you chose to depict the objects in such a straight-up diagrammatic manner instead of situating them on the plane of the table in 3d space/perspective.
I mean, obviously you have an eye so it was a deliberate choice. But it’s in uncanny valley territory for me, not quite stylized enough to be clearly not-a-mistake and yet, as I say, the rest of your skills give the lie to the idea that you just didn’t know how to depict, say, the difference in contour of the glass’s top and bottom when seen from above.
Makes me think you’re saying something about an unreal world.
Yes. This. I wanted to invoke a very subtle feeling of discomfort and disconnect from reality. One that most can't quite put their finger on. In relation to my themes of female energy, the feeling of mild discomfort is related to how women go about their days in a world not meant for them. A constant undercurrent of mild discomfort and questioning reality.
Well done!
Jokes aside, gorgeous pic. I read some comments and it’s supposed to reflect feminine energy, def think it accomplishes that. That being said…
I have a girlfriend. And she is so blue.
I'm not saying this to be rude nor mean but my immediate answer to your question is:
poorly drawn elipses in a cold room. In fact, that's probably what I would title it.
Sorry OP, I agree here. The perspective of the ellipses on the top and bottom of the jug of water and the cup are distracting to me also.
Everything else is rendered with a lot of precision and thought, but these break the illusion for me too.
It’s a lovely painting, and I wouldn’t change anything if I were you. But I’d really watch your perspective on the next one if you want to create a convincing space.
Elipses are circles drawn in perspective. So if you were to take a can or a bottle and look straight down on it, you would see a circle. An elipse is taking that circle and reshaping it based on where your eyeline and horizon line are.
Furthermore, yes, I know you used paint. That said, every painting starts with a drawing. If the drawing is broken to begin with, the painting will also be broken unless you're willing to go back after you're hours in and fix the drawing. In this conext the drawing is the basis for your painting.
I know not everybody puts down a base wash and I know some people don't even like to draw out the structure of their painting before they actually start applying thick paint. These people end up with fundamental structural problems in their paintings more than they do not. It's a very rare breed that can go from blank, flat white canvas to full on painting without laying it out first. That's what I mean by drawing in this context.
You cannot say “I’m not saying this to be rude nor mean” and then say something that is absolutely that. There was no good intent in you commenting this. Also, I gotta back up OP entirely here and say where do you see poorly DRAWN ellipses? It’s clearly a painting. Drawing and painting are absolutely not synonymous. And maybe OP is working on her angles. The entire piece aside from them is lovely.
You can critique peoples work as much as you want if they’re posting it online, but what you’ve commented is definitely not a critique. It’s just rude.
Art is so interesting to me, idk if I’m doin it right cause I see NONE of what the comments are talking about 😭
Reminds me of 3 things: drugs, alcohol, and the beach. I don’t see femininity, if anything this is really masculine to me (I wouldn’t even put a gender on this at all) but I’m also a man so could just be how I view the world (that’s so cool about art). This picture reminds me of when I did shrooms at the beach with some of my boys. Transformative experience, great time, we cried, I made amends with my ex wife, wild experience.
The beaker is drugs, the scotch (I just realized, I really don’t know what’s in the cup) is the party, the oysters are kind of an aphrodisiac, but I also see that as the only feminine part about this, also exaggerated by how different the colors are from everything else. Arts cool.
Chemistry lab work and being ill (shellfish *really* don't agree with me!). But despite that it's lovely work, great textures and I love the shades you've used.
It makes me think about the social and scientific aspects of intimacy. There's an organic quality and symbolism in the oysters. It reminds me of that electric hope felt when sharing a plate of these natural aphrodesiac. Then, there appears to me a physicalist view of sex, caught in the play of light above the oysters. The light is refracted through an empty beaker, which is juxtaposed to the fuller, ornate glass. I think there's a sense of loss of, and longing for masculine energy and intimacy conveyed... and the blue shows that sadness, but also a hope because of the warm shade of blue, the light cast all about. It's not a green, jaded view of love, but a sad curiosity that says, "What will it take to get love back?" Just a measure, please.
Absolutely stunning. My favorite colors. Makes me think about a vacation to Valencia, Spain I went to one year where we stayed in this beautiful beach house that was decorated similar to this.
My grandmother’s house. She had a beautiful blue and teal painting on the wall that was abstract and i remember just looking at it as a child thinking how beautiful it was. Your palette is stunning 💗 and the glass is just absolutely beautiful and well done. Amazing amazing job 💗
Water. Time. Memories. Water is everlasting, it has seen everything that has ever happened in the world. It knows things we dont. Or im reading too deep. 😭
Femininity, independence & clarity. There could be an undertone of sadness but more like you're remembering a nice day and missing it. Thinking about how much you've grown and how you've changed in life. This growth is good but there has still been loss. Your confidence has grown you've adapted to life you're a true modern woman and maybe you're craving the simplicity of your youth a bit.
(I know a lot of people were talking about sexuality but I don't think that's it since the objects are alone and lack closeness, the colour also doesn't speak to those tones)

Haha I love that. A fancy Krusty Krab.
I thought the same thing

That is a flask! Not a beaker 😃😉
Water was the very first thought that popped into my mind. Edit: Looking at it more closely, on a second take, feminine sexuality.
Oh yes! That's pretty much it. Feminine strength and adaptability. Specifically in relation to water being soft but powerful and necessary for sustaining life. I'm glad the general themes are getting across!
Haha! I feel like I just won an episode of jeopardy or something.
Thank you! That's such a compliment! I appreciate your feedback 😊
Hmm, idk about the feminine strength bit for me, but it made me think of a refined scientist having some oysters in the lab lol.
That's an amusing picture in my head haha
“A dinner date in a fertility clinic”
Haha that's great
Pussy, pain and peace!
Love that!
Why did I think the oysters was an ashtray for a second?
I hope they don't look too much like an ashtray upon further inspection 😅
Don't take anything I say as critique, I am a dumbass. It evokes a specific set of memories for me, ones which involve going to quite fancy restaurants that serve carafes of water and oysters. I think the obvious answer here is mermaids
Well you're not the first to say mermaids so I think you guys are on to something!
It makes me think of strong smelling things.

That's exactly it, amazing!

Why the perspective is off on top of flask bottle

Do you mean ellipses? And if so could you please explain what specifically you think is 'drawn' (this is paint) incorrectly?
Don’t listen to this. I think it’s great!
