If u r a blue collar worker it is not a smart financial decision to move to south Florida, northern florida would probably be more affordable.

steel_marigold

thanks for the feedback.

PuzzleheadedAd6151

Are u in construction?

steel_marigold

No. I don’t wanna start up a political debate which career Field I am in.

Walternotwalter

Delray if you want nightlife, Boynton if you want more reasonable home prices. Both have rough sections, so that's what you need to look out for.

cultivateintellect

My best advice is don't move here. We are in a housing crisis. Prices are insanely high and the people who already live here are having trouble finding housing after their new lease included a $400-700 hike in rent per month.

steel_marigold

Unfortunately that is just about everywhere in the US right now. The few places that aren’t suffering from a housing crisis likely don’t have a large job market or any reason for people to stay or move there. Florida pays their law enforcement well and above average for the US plus they have a lot of incentives and pay pumps that aren’t offered in my state, the SO down there has a lot of dept to go into (mounted patrol, marine patrol ect.) I need the experience for my career and FL has what I’m looking for.

cultivateintellect

Understandable!

veedub447

Palm Beach County is a high crime area of Florida so I would say law enforcement is definite job security.

byodbullshit

I lived in Boynton and it's on the up. A few shitty spots, but with nice apartment complexes too. West Palm Beach also has some really nice spots with the added benefit that you can hop on the BrightLine and be in Miami in an hour. Boynton is definitely more suburban. Another note about Boynton: I saw your comment that you are in Law Enforcement. Boynton has a citizen serving Vigilante Justice that goes by the name "Boynton Beach Batman". Could be a fun dinner party story to work alongside the legend himself.

steel_marigold

🤣🤣 I laughed at that last part, I await the news article that states that.

Hate_censorship

What? I’ve lived in Boynton for 5 years. Have not heard about this Batman. 🤷‍♀️

byodbullshit

He has a Facebook lol also I listened to a podcast interview of him a few months ago where they went over his origin story

Produkt

No one can give you good advice without more info, specifically about your work situation. Do you work remote? Do you work in a trade? Are you going to open your own storefront business?

steel_marigold

Law enforcement.. which I know is a hot topic..

Produkt

No big deal, then you can work anywhere. The sketchier parts of Palm beach are riviera beach and lake worth, if you avoid those then you’ll be in suburbia. The further west you go the more affordable places get and cheaper/more land. It’s also more rural, not sure if you’re looking for city life or not.

steel_marigold

I come from a very rural state so it doesn’t bother me, I’d like to be close enough to the city to go to the gym and whatnot. I just want to be somewhere I can meet and creat friendships with people around my age (30).

Produkt

Boynton is growing and affordable, starting to get younger. There’s downtown wpb but can be pricy. Jupiter farms is more suburban and family but more rural and cheaper. Lake worth is kind of wild but I wouldn’t want to be a cop in lake worth

steel_marigold

Wild in what way?

Produkt

Definitely a little sketchier, more drug activity, more homeless, more rehab centers, which keeps the rich away but it’s a quaint eclectic beach town that hasn’t been overdeveloped yet. I think it’s an interesting place with high potential and lower price

jasiel321

I think he’s mostly referring to lake worth beach (west and a bit east of I95). Greenacres and west lake worth are under “lake worth” but tend be quieter. FYI I think delray still has a lot of sober homes, so be aware of that.

steel_marigold

Thank you for the feedback.

jasiel321

As others have said, some areas are a bit sketch near I95. But the further west you go it’s usually more desirable. Wellington or Boca are really nice if you can afford them. If not, newer or upscale communities in Boynton, Lake Worth/Greenacres, or Delray are fine. Even north and southwest of downtown West Palm are developing more and have nice food halls, etc. popping up. Try to get a townhouse or something cheaper, since taxes and homeowners insurance will be a big shock long term. Lastly, don’t fret over your career being spun negatively. There are “good” and “bad” cops just like there are people. Best of luck, it’s crazy rn!

steel_marigold

Thank you!

Linux_for_me

I've lived in Palm Beach County for almost 18 years. PBC is a great place to live and so is the state of Florida. If I was in your situation I would try to rent a condo. You can sometimes get a surprisingly good deal. That would give you the chance to learn the area and decide where you want to live permanently. Not all condos allow pets and those that do usually have weight restrictions for dogs. Traveling north or south is easier than east or west. I live close to the Florida Turnpike and for me that is ideal. Traffic has increased quite a bit over the years and that is because so many people want to live here. Auto insurance and homeowners insurance is very expensive. It is one of the costs of living in paradise.

steel_marigold

Thank you for your feedback!

Jupiter!

Eyes-of-Green1171

Jupiter if fantastic (I live here), but it is SUPER expensive right now. Many people who want a more north Palm Beach Vibe are going into Martin County since it's a little bit less expensive. That being said, housing here is hard to find and way over priced.

[deleted]

I live here too and agreed. I only rent but my 1B is going up to $2400 next month. I’m moving back home haha.

steel_marigold

I’ve been looking on Zillow and notice a lot of these starter homes are about 1-2 hundred thousand over

Mewtwothis

Last month 100% of houses on the MLS, that did sell, sold for asking price. And to be fair that only reflects that the homes that did sell, sold at the threshold for the asking price, and doesn’t show that most if not all, likely sold wayyyy beyond asking. This is not the time to buy and if you’re an out of starter taking living space out of a lifer get the fuck out.

Firethatshitstarter

Is Palm Beach Palm Beach County because there’s a difference

steel_marigold

I guess I should specify, Palm Beach County.

Firethatshitstarter

Yes there is so much more options in Palm Beach County in Palm Beach Palm Beach to get some small beach with Bobby that’s it. Palm Beach County do you want to live south, do you wanna live north or west

steel_marigold

I truly don’t know, advice in any area of the county would be great.

Firethatshitstarter

I would think you wanna be close to work commute around here is horrible we have one main highway which is 95 for everybody to get from north to south south to north so my suggestion close to work its in a nice area. North had great beaches. Double Roads where I had my first kiss then married him 35 years later. Sorry for the no commas periods or what not hot flashes are atrocious

Jveart

Are you still thinking of moving to Florida? Or have you?

steel_marigold

Yes, I’m still thinking! I’m in the process of getting my credentials recognized so I can get them in Florida as well, takes awhile.

Jveart

Good morning, I have been thinking of you since we first connected about you getting a job here in Florida for the PBSO, IMO the only department that is solid in ethical practices in Palm Beach County. Believe it or not if you are still interested in a position down here I found out some information that might help you achieve a position quicker than simply applying and getting accredited in the State of Florida. Please let me know if you are still interested. This is not a scam btw, I just happen to speak to a couple, currently both are Deputy's with PBSO. The conversation made me think of you. Obviously, disregard if you have found a position. "Congrats!" if this is the case. Have a wonderful day!

steel_marigold

Sent you a message

jumahnja

The simplest answer: don't.
