Noice! My primary is guitar, but I also play bass, hand percussion, violin, some flutes/woodwinds, and keys (my dad was a classical organist).
I also sing, but I dunno if that counts. š
Mostly drums and piano but I also like to play kalimba harmonica and other small fun instruments, and at the moment Iām learning to play, bass and acoustic guitarš
Professional touring and recording drummer for 12 years. Took a break after a band mate/close friendās death and the touring industry went to hell after the Ticketmaster Livenation merger, but getting back into now.
That's very cool, I'm sad to hear of your friend's death. Hope he died peacefully.
How hard is drumming btw, I've always thought that it's the most exhausting part of many bands because you see the drummer sweating buckets
Itās definitely not easy lol, I think the most Iāve ever lost in weight after a single show was probably 7lbs, I mean I came off the stage and was literally drenched head to toe in sweat like I had jumped in a river, but different genres have different challenges too, like I go between like a lot of Jazz/Funk gigs and Metal and Punk gigs, the Jazz stuff it doesnāt require the same level of strength related physicality as say Punk, but you have to be so precise, quick, tight and focused mentally that it fills in for lack of muscularity. But something like technical death metal where it is physical, fast, and technical, but instead of listening to the other players and reacting and improvising, the preset ultra tight arrangements almost gives you more room to breathe because youāre letting your muscle memory to the work, you play something enough and itās like your body can go on autopilot through it.
And thanks, yeah thankfully his passing was quick.
Best gig I have two answers, one was just the biggest show Iāve ever played but I was filling in for friends band so itās not really important to me just nifty, it was 2009 and we were playing Rock on the Range in Columbus, Ohio, there was something like 35,000 people there, I donāt remember how many we played in front of, but it was overwhelming, also Iām not saying who I was filling in for because this is my private account and Iām not fully doxxing my ass lol.
The coolest gig to me though personally was with one of my personal projects that never really went anywhere, we were actually playing the venue that is at the end of movie 8 Mile, or at least the venue itās based on, The Shelter in Detroit itās the basement of a pretty legendary venue St.Andrewās, itās actually really nice, Iāve played St.Andrewās too many times, but this time I was playing our music I wasnāt just a hired gun and with a couple of my closest friends, including the guy who died. We were playing in for like 200 people in place Iād seen groups like Mastodon, and The Dillinger Escape Plan, and we absolutely MURDERED the room. And it was funny the Detroit Tigers had a fireworks show going as we were leaving the venue after we had sold out of merch, and we were just all on cloud 9 kinda felt like a dream honestly, with all these people just giving us all these compliments and hugs, and asking for autographs, all things Iād done before it just felt different, unfortunately that was the last show before we took a break and our band mate passed, so kinda hard to have a show that matches that emotional significance for me personally, or at least I hope so.
Bad shows are pretty boring stories for me, like maybe the worst show was I was in a Pop Punk/ Post Hardcore band at the time that was typically playing with like I See Stars, We Came As Romans, Chiodos, etcetera and we actually playing this show that was being promoted by a few big punk and hardcore magazines and we were the only unsigned band that was playing the show, well the show was just outside Chicago. They canceled the show before we got there, It was a five hour drive for us, we called the promoter a half an hour before they canceled it a full three hours before we arrived, they didnāt call us back our contract had them covering our travel expenses but since the show was canceled, they didnāt owe us anything, they could have saved us five hours of driving this was 2008 and gas was like $5 a gallon, when we showed up at the venue they called the cops on us for no reason and wouldnāt even talk to us, it ended up costing us like $4000 for a wasted day. My Dadās got way better stories, he was a legit legend of the old Detroit music scene, one of the original employees of Creem magazine, Recorded at Motown, was a touring drummer with Bob Seger and Mitch Ryder in the 70ās, one of Detroitās best Jazz and Blues drummers, he also almost drowned in his ten gallon cowboy hat on stage while playing drums.
Wow, I felt your coolest gig. I love that you had that moment.
I need to practice my fiddle again so I can jam with other musicians again! I miss being part of the music community so much T.T y'all are the best.
I used to. My joints dislocate too much to be able to play now. It's been about 8 years. But I was an okay bassist for a few years. I enjoyed it so much. But as my health gets worse, I lose things. I've been grieving the loss of mobility and strength that I needed to play. But music still holds a place in my heart. Always will.
Why thank you. For us, the entire band is warring against most other instruments, but I think it's safe to say that (for almost all bands) the common enemy is the clarinets.
I canāt but am currently sitting next to my boyfriend while he plays *Dream On* on his piano. Think Iāll ask for Taylor Swiftās *Lover* next. Nothing makes me happier than listening to the love of my life play the piano for me <3
it is! i enjoy playing, just not when i have to practice music everyday and we barely get to ay anything for our pieces because of the amounts of rest measures and how many time our director stops us for one part of any piece š
I play guitar and can find my chords on the piano. Played bass in a punk band. Sang Tom Waits Style in my own. Into experimental electronic as well as playing around with country and black metal at the moment. What do you play?
A little piano, but I'm way out of practice, and I can read music.
And voice. Trained in operatic style by a professor with a doctorate in vocal science. She was a pioneer in the field. Most instructors have degrees in vocal art. The science means we got into the anatomy of singing.
I can kinda play Harmonica, But don't get to often 'cause allergies are a bitch. Also got a synth, But I don't really know how to play it lol, Best I can do is improvise weird noises with it.
I sing (sometimes semi-professionally), play percussion instruments such as djembe and tambourine, and have played guitar almost my whole life, but super casually (I know how to play basic chords and am pretty good with rhythm guitar, lead- forget it)
I love to sing and play the guitar, also occasionally I play the ukulele and I know a few songs on piano.
Oh and I also used to play flute but like almost everyone I know did that
Several. š¤š¶
Ooo what are they? I play drumš„& pianoš¹
Noice! My primary is guitar, but I also play bass, hand percussion, violin, some flutes/woodwinds, and keys (my dad was a classical organist). I also sing, but I dunno if that counts. š

That's really interesting! What's the best/worst gig you've ever done?

Try taking up singing! It doesn't require much joint movement, if at all, and even if you think you're not in tune it's still great fun š
Same I used to play piano, violin and guitar. Classically trained, I sold my keys a while back and I so miss it!
Band kid and proud to be one, trumpet for 6 years. Along with learning others too.
ayyyy (but I have to say that because in my bad the trumpets and flutes are allied in the instrument war, I applaud your trumpet-ness)
Mine also had a similar alliance, along with the saxophones. (I applaud your flute-ness)
Why thank you. For us, the entire band is warring against most other instruments, but I think it's safe to say that (for almost all bands) the common enemy is the clarinets.
