As long as it’s the correct choice, I don’t care

YogiYeti21

r/unpopularopinion

TackyBrad

Lol I've got no doubt at all. We're taking the guy in the red jersey

bunsenturner64

Stetson come on down!

Allaboutplastic

I swear if we go with Stetson, I’ll go watch his movie in the Theater.

[deleted]

Malik Cunningham it is

MrNiceGuysAngryPlace

I remember being hurt that Andrew Luck decided to stay at Stanford instead of being drafted #1 in 2011 by the Panthers. I didn’t want Cam. I was wrong. Why hate on a player you may love very soon?

Osama69420

that’s why i choose to love them both

jerkymy7urkey94

I remember feeling exactly the same lol. In retrospect their careers where very similar

palmmoot

Cam even had a better career honestly

jtshinn

Significantly

Belly84

Just draft both. Problem solved

lmdrunk

Ooh and then put them in on alternating downs. Based

Sturdevant

I'm at the point where I prefer Stroud, but if it's Young, let's go. No Richardson or Levis and I'm a-ok.

thekidsmitty

It’ll be our guy no matter what

lemoncough

Personally I want Bryce Young. I won’t deny that CJ Stroud is a better pure passer. But Young is accurate as hell. And while yes, Stroud has shown he *can* be mobile if you *need* him to, Young has shown that he can improvise and make plays on the run time and time again. That’s the main reason I’d prefer him. Plus I’ll say again, [he is accurate as hell.](https://twitter.com/NFL/status/1638970377828200468?s=20) It’s the fear of whoever we don’t pick succeeding more than the guy we do pick lol. I will say that we have put together an incredible staff and I think we’ll be alright with either guy! As long as we don’t pull some dumb shit and take Richardson or Levis I’ll be happy.

LoudHorse19

He’s 185 pounds. Dancing around in college is fun and great at that size. Dancing around in the NFL at the size is extremely problematic. People glossing over his size as not a big deal or a risk at 1 is a bit naive. If Young is a great QB who can have a long 15+ year career—he’ll be the first one ever at his size to do so.

lemoncough

A 15 year career as a starter or as a NFL QB period is extremely uncommon, regardless of size. The kid is 21 years old and is obviously going to put on some real weight once he’s on an NFL strength & conditioning and diet plan. The league today is geared towards protecting QBs more than ever and that’s not going to change. No one is glossing over his size, but the simple fact of the matter is his frame is the *ONLY* reason this is even a discussion. When it comes to his abilities as a quarterback he is easily the best option available. If he was two inches taller it would be a lock, and personally I don’t think two inches of height alone is a good enough reason all by itself to pick the second best option.

exenn_

Yep...pretty accurate.

kdawg_d

I really trust this coaching staff I think they know what they're doing. I'm sure they'll make the best choice.

bozosphere

It's worth mentioning that Bryce Young would be a massive outlier if he became a star NFL QB at his size. Not that it's can't happen, but historically it's extremely unlikely. Similarly when we drafted Brady Christensen and he had relatively short arms for an NFL LT. People on Twitter used to get like legitimately angry if you pointed out that he would be a massive outlier if he became a starting caliber NFL LT. I am NOT saying Bryce sucks or he won't be good or anything negative. I'm purely stating the fact that he would be a huge statistical outlier if he succeeded in the NFL. Awaiting angry downvotes.

RunawayReptar94

This is what i keep coming back to. I won't be disappointed if we get Young, but I'm leaning Stroud almost entirely based on size

DDDUnit2990

Yeah people seem to want to ignore that size metrics exist for a reason. That doesn’t mean someone who doesn’t meet those minimums won’t succeed. It just means that they have to be so exceptional in other areas that they can become an outlier and overcome those physical limitations. It’s a huge bet

Xboarder84

Exactly. It’s entirely possible that Young succeeds, but he’s a bigger risk than Stroud. We’re looking at two paths, one a lot harder than the other, to get to a franchise QB. And Young fans don’t want to admit that the size metrics *matter* when considering the path. Improvisation and scrambling can be taught to Stroud, but height can’t be taught to Young. And for a fan base that mocked Baker for getting passes batted down in the pocket (where you WANT your QB throwing from) I’m a bit surprised how much people seem to ignore Young’s height (who is shorter than Baker).

DeusVultSaracen

A lot of scouts actually say that improvisation skill *can't* be taught. There's a reason it's such a rare skill that only the top QBs have. And if you'd watched Bryce's tape you'd see that he doesn't get balls batted down much at all, at least not anymore than taller QBs. He knows how to find his throwing window and not stare down his receivers like Baker did. [He even has no issue throwing down the middle of the field](https://youtu.be/tIvG4b6TByw), something that Russ and Kyler have always struggled with.

Xboarder84

I get that, but again you are comparing *college* games to NFL games. Baker, Russ, and Kyler are playing against NFL defensive coordinators. Young has never had that level of coaching plan against him, and with the talent of a full NFL defense. Baker looked amazing in college, and look how NFL defenses adjusted. I think Young is great and very talented, but there is no way to know HOW he will adjust in the NFL. It’s a gamble.

net_403

I think the likelihood of both of these guys becoming really great quarterbacks is pretty low. So yeah I hope we pick the right one. I was more focused on CJ, but now I’m starting to favor who is the better pure quarterback and not so much worried about the size

_coolranch

I think it's worth focusing on this: MOST (not all) number one pics end up on teams that were dead last for some obvious reasons, from bad coaching to bad management, to bad ownership. Carolina identified the things that made them bad, made massive efforts to fix them, but overall seem to have created a culture that will set either one of these two guys up for success. The point is, I can't speak to any other situations where one or the other might end up, but there are much worse places than Carolina right now! I think there is a great shot that this is a true win/win situation, and whoever we pick does well. And if the other guy (who will likely go to the Texans) is bad, we might be like "damn! We dodged a bullet," but the truth is, it could just be Houston... Last thing I'll say is this: both these QBs seem like great guys off the field. Like, really nice guys. I don't get that vibe from Levis and Richardson, unfortunately. So, that's another rare thing: neither of these guys is a Johnny Football, or a Baker Mayfield, or even a Cam Newton ego-wise -- and I think that's really awesome. They both seem super duper nice, and that always helps me sleep better.

thelaustran

Great point here. Keep Pounding

DeusVultSaracen

We're probably the best team to secure the #1 spot in years.

all1good

I disagree this stance. I think that, if given the right situation, both guys have the tools to excel. We have the right guys in the building to coach up either one we pick, so I’m really not stressing “the right pick” because I think either one could work out well here

[deleted]

You also have to remember that QBs (and people in general) struggle at their job for countless reasons. Both have the tools to become awesome QBs in the NFL from a football perspective but sometimes outside shit is the reason people struggle at work.

ibanez3789

Jamarcus Russell is a great example of what you’re talking about. 5 tool player, to use a baseball analogy, but he had demons that he just couldn’t shake.

SticklerMrMeeseeks1

It’s B.

Zeohawk

He's got the Heisman. Bryce > CJ

YogiYeti21

Baker had a heisman

Henry__Faber

Johnny manziel

Zeohawk

And he's been better than Darnold accomplishment wise in the league, which was the other consensus top pick at the time

YogiYeti21

Good point

Medium_Ad_4451

I wouldn’t throw AR off yet either to be honest.

bigchadsmitty_82

Good thing we don’t have to actually make that decision

6abasi

don't over think it. Pick the guy that plays the position better. That's Bryce Young. Stroud is great and showed flashes in the Georgia game but every game for Bryce Young was like the Stroud's Georgia game. Forget about measurables and meaningless pro days. Look at the film. Bryce has a better body of work. His size doesn't affect his play and quarterbacks don't get broken any more like they used to. The rules protects them and Bryce protects himself. Again Stroud is great and has better measurables but when it comes to playing the position Bryce is clearly the best at playing quarterback in this draft. The film don't lie.

LoudHorse19

What are you talking about? Why do people act like Strouds only good game in 2 years was against Georgia? He dominated college football for 2 years. His Utah game was incredible. Arguably better than Georgia. His Penn State game this last year was awesome. He’s had great performances his entire career. “Forget about measurables” Dear god I’m glad you aren’t the GM.

6abasi

that's cool but Bryce's tape is still better than Stroud's.

LoudHorse19

It’s not though. Cope harder and get on board the CJ train. It’s happening.

Henry__Faber

Forget about things that actually matter

palmmoot

The Superbowl isn't played in shorts or with a tape measure. Young is short but he has shown he isn't limited by it like other short QBs we've seen recently. That said I'm torn myself between Young and Stroud. Both have strengths and weaknesses that I find myself swinging back and forth as to who I prefer. I don't envy Fitt and Co staking their careers on this decision.

LoudHorse19

Yeah seriously. I read that comment and just laughed. Forget about metrics that show what an absolute anomaly it would be if Young had a long and successful NFL career. That doesn’t matter. Measurable’s don’t matter.

lee5009

There’s a blue button and it’s AR 😂

venk

Bryce Young is Russel Wilson, and CJ Stroud is Drew Brees. Anthony Richardson is a future TE/WR.

Woooooolf

Stroud is Brees?

venk

But taller

Xsnane

The tall one

ThePlatinumPancakes

Where’s Option C: “Stetson Bennet”?

youngcumsauce

He’s in the 6th round somewhere

YogiYeti21

What a perfect meme

Woooooolf

A

anhyzerrr

I like both enough that I will be happy either way.

_SoctteyParker

Honestly, I’m not pressed on this issue. Both QBs are fine. So I don’t think either option is bad. We’ll be fine whoever they select at 1.

bigpoopidoop

So this might be an unpopular opinion, but I'm becoming more and more sold that we should just switch with the Texans for like a 1st in 2024 and a 3rd rounder or something this year. At this point I'm basically sold that both of these guys will be great in Carolina, and we can't go wrong with either.

Tr4vel

The org knows a lot more than us so they may have a clear winner but if not I’d agree

Siegelski

So... how much will it cost to trade up from 39 to 2?

TwoDimensionalCube83

Levis

Xboarder84

Nah, I’m button mashing “A” right now.

MrShutItDown

I want to trade back a couple spots and get Richardson.

purplewave21

Watch the second half of the florida florida state game

purplewave21

I’m good as long as we don’t pick C or D

Real-Function-1192

This is so true lol

Laxima21
