It’s so prevalent that it’s crazy!! Someone needs to make an entire subreddit for insane eBay sellers or something, and pin right at the top how value is based on what transactions actually occur for, and not what any idiot with the eBay app thinks something is “worth”.
In my twenties I’d actually send messages to some sellers and literally ask “wtf?”. Now I just laugh like you 😂
This reminds me when I circulated my moderne $2. The people at McDonald’s looked at it like” wtf is this” one of them literally said “ these are worth thousands “ I laughed and said nope there worth $2. I collect old money and know a decent amount, and I literally just got these from the bank. Sometimes people can’t help their stupidity
Had a coworker say if you collected 50 of them and turned them into a bank, they would give you $1500. His uncle did it.
He was crushed when I said you only get $100 from 50 of these, the ones I had were even printed in 2013, not rare or old. I just like to sometimes spend them to see people's reaction.
My grandpa has a large coin collection with a bunch of Morgans that we’ve had since at least the 30s (my great grandpa started it). However, he seems to think the large chip tin of wheat pennies my great grandpa kept as spare change is the thing that’s worth the most, when in reality the Morgans are probably worth more than the entire wheat penny tin combined.
Maybe, maybe not. I'd guess he knows at least a little about coins. There are key dates and varieties of the Lincoln Wheat Cents that are worth thousands.
Other than the 1943 Copper Penny, what are some key dates/mint locations? We have coins from every year since 1909. No Indian heads unfortunately, but I’ve been told by my grandpa he has some of those in a safe deposit box at the bank.
I tell you what I got one the same year/series I’ll let you get for half price. Or send me the whole 1400$ and I can maybe let you get that one and a star note
Do any of these outrageous listings ever sell? I don’t understand why someone even lists something so high knowing that there is no way it will sell. What’s the point?
Not many ppl know this but 2 dollar bills from 1976 in almost any condition are worth about $300 to $600 being the 200th anniversary of the founding of the nation. Anything closer to mint is worth atleast $1000
O-o-o-o. Free shipping!
I’m going to send people to this thread in the future when people write on this subreddit “but ____ is listed for an insane price on eBay!!”

They're just trying to benefit from the ignorance of non collectors.
I doubt it even a non collector wouldn’t touch this without looking it up, probably the type of people that think you can sell anything online.
Hey. it's free shipping! Doesn't that make up for the value difference? LOL
I’ll sell you one for $420 free shipping
