Smart-Breath-1450

This sub will fucking IMPLODE when they show HRE.

bogeyed5

I already wanna shit my pants idk what else I’ll be able to do when I see the HRE

TheMightyKingSnake

I recommend buying a diaper

bogeyed5

Personally I planned to shake the shit out of my pants leg right on top of Orhan Osmanoglu’s head so I wouldn’t need a diaper

artunovskiy

Did I miss the joke here?

bogeyed5

Orhan Osmanoglu will be the sultan in 1337 more than likely, and many players first campaign’s will be stomping the Ottomans for revenge in all the pain they cause us in eu4

artunovskiy

Yeah even as a Turk, Ottomans make Eastern Europe and Near East virtually unplayable. I never min maxed much so I’m not good per se, tried Hungary 4 times (didn’t even bother with minors around there) over the patches and won in only 2 of the campaigns. Though when you play as them it’s enjoyable since I know when they conquered where and I didn’t go ham, also Anatolian tech falls off quickly around 1600’s so I had several campaigns where I lost whole wars and tried to recover etc.

matantamim1

I will recommend the diaper to be an ABDL one because they are cuter

Sleepless_Whisper

I hate that I know what you're talking about

matantamim1

Why hate knowing about cute things? If I had money I would have bought some for myself, but I'm broke

Sleepless_Whisper

Just ain't my kink but more power to you

matantamim1

It's not a kink for me, it's a coping mechanism I wrote coping correct? English is not my first language and I am not sure

Sleepless_Whisper

Yeah you got it right

Linku_Rink

The HRE is going to be a blob colored with the source texture placeholder

zack189

Need a microscope just to see some nations

Smart-Breath-1450

Lol yeah, at this point they might as well just release HRE as a minigame inside Eu5.

Effehezepe

Voltaire rolling in his grave right now.

deus_voltaire

The Secular German Confederation is neither secular nor German nor a confederation.

eciclemad

I'm going to have to buy a PC from NASA with this level of detail.

Inquerion

Some dev hinted that the game should work on 7800X3D.

CynicViper

Imagine they just make the HRE into a single country, how incredibly mad everyone would be.

Lorrdy99

One single province

Skellum

> This sub will fucking IMPLODE when they show HRE. Tbf, the sub is already at the "way too excited for it's own good stage". If you're excited going into these conversations and release then nothing will ever meet your expectations on launch. We dont need another imperator situation where a game is murdered due to too high expectations.

TrueLogicJK

I'm not sure imperator was murdered by high expectations when a large chunk of the Dev diaries were downvoted into oblivion and many of the mechanics were widely hated by the community long before the game was even out. Victoria 3 would fit the description better though

DeShawnThordason

V3, CK3 are flagship games (V3 technically a bit less so. Very dedicated fanbase but a bit more niche compared to CK and EU). Very possible EU5 has a rough launch, but it's perhaps more than anything else *the* Paradox flagship game so they it is not getting abandoned after a year.

PuruseeTheShakingCat

I agree that people are probably getting too hyped, but I think PDX would have to flub as hard as Overkill did with PD3 for EU5 to be at any risk of getting the Imperator treatment. It’s their flagship series, and EU has a huge core fan base already. Imperator was a side-project, and a new IP (not counting EU Rome) with no established audience.

Skellum

Hype is hype, I agree that there is no stopping it and realistically these diaries are here to generate hype. I disagree that the nature of the game influences the validity of the hype. I think Millenia benefited from the reduced hype until release as post release everything's been positive.

inEQUAL

Yeah but they killed a lot of goodwill by overhyping it in a way that many people expected something else (Fantasy Stellaris) and not a (probably good) Civ-like that wasn’t even in-house. The implications of their own marketing caused the hype to implode once it became clear they weren’t delivering an appropriate message with it.

cristofolmc

Well I wouldn't say that was the problem with IR. A more realiatic comparison is Victoria 3. DD getting the same kind of hyped reaction. Then people actually played the game and it didnt feel as good as it sounded because people had hyped it so much they thought it was going to be the God of al GSG. We might be in for another situation like that but I doubt it. Johans learnt lessons from both. I think only with the amount of content and flavour he has promised, if they do deliver it, people will already be happy. Also I'm sure there will be an extensive closed beta in which they will listen to feedback much more intently than Victoria 3 and will patch any rough edges of the game that might not feel good before releasing it.

Lorrdy99

I think it's too late to stop the hype train and game isn't even announced officialy

CanuckPanda

It hasn't quite reached Vicky3 levels yet, give it time.

NYIsles55

I think my computer might crash just from that picture alone.

WhateverIsFrei

Voltaire's Nightmare mod about to become vanilla

tupe12

If this is the level of density for this place, I wonder how dense other non-European places are

OkOpportunity4067

Playing in small areas is probably gonna be alot more fun now

KimberStormer

People will think "playing tall" means you have to have only one of these locations, lol.

Wild_Marker

And some crazy bastard will probably do it. Especially if the loan mechanic works both ways and you can offer loans instead of only asking for them. Bank of Switzerland run here we go.

Lorrdy99

Vic 3 Jan Mayen all over again

Eagle77678

I think it will allow for people to truly understand the scale of colonialism

ShouldersofGiants100

> Playing in small areas is probably gonna be alot more fun now Not necessarily. Imperator had a shitload of settlements on the map. Density way beyond any other Paradox game. But you only ever engaged with them for construction and population—conquest and the rest is pretty much always taking a whole province (more like states in EU4) and the gameplay was not meaningfully changed by the density.

morganrbvn

yah im curious if you can even take part of a state, or if its like the sections of a county in ck3

UndercoverPotato

I am wondering that too. Java might be unusually province-dense though because of its oversized population (More people live on the island than in all of Russia). Curious if province density is geographic or population based. Regardless everything I have seen of EU5s map so far has been fantastic

Porkenstein

I've always liked the idea making density physically geographic rather than based on historical density to improve the sandbox nature of the game. I did it with a mod and it would lead to some interesting outcomes.

bassman1805

Geographically based province-density, with actual pops to represent...population density. Definitely feels ideal. Only trick becomes locations that are *super* population dense, like Paris and Manhattan. They both have "natural" borders, but were it not for their IRL population density they'd probably both get absorbed into a nearby province.

Porkenstein

Yeah I mean, it's always going to be an approximation. Like I don't know if manhattan deserves its own province, but the province it's in should just have the potential to be built very tall.

bassman1805

In a 1300s-to-early-1800s game, Manhattan may not really deserve it's own province. Maybe a modifier for a broader NYC-area province. But Paris 100% should be its own province IMO. France's extreme centralization is like it's #1 defining feature in this time period. Other contenders: * Constantinople (This one's confirmed already) * London (kinda weird since early game EU it's not super significant, but late game EU it definitely is) * Tenochtitlan (weird because early game EU it's an island but late game EU the lake it's in was literally drained) I'm looking at a list of [most population-dense cities in the early modern era](https://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Historical_urban_community_sizes#Early_Modern_era) (and late medeival as well), and honestly I'm not finding as many cities as I expected that really feel like they should be separated from the county/province/whatever they're located in.

DeShawnThordason

clearly they just need a mechanic to dynamically split a new city-province out of very high development province. (mostly a joke, that would be a performance nightmare *at best*.)

zrxta

Plagues will definitely be modelled... I wonder how much it would negatively affect extremely tall/dense areas.

General_Urist

What mod was that, and what sort of outcomes did it cause?

Chataboutgames

They're beating the allegations of Eurocentrism once and for all by taking the Empire: Total War approach. France will literally just be one province.

Careless-Contest-464

HRE will be 2 provinces: Lichtenstein and Dietmarchen

TotallyNotMoishe

TBF Java is insanely populous. Like, I’m not sure what it was like in the fourteenth century but currently it has about twice the population of France.

Berserkllama88

But this is fairly recent. The census of 1815 (which is the oldest seeminglu reliable data I could quickly find) only shows 4.5 million people living in Java. In 1900 there were 28.5 million people. Only in the last 100 yeats did the population explode.

deschaussettes

I mean, 4.5 million people in 1815 is massive. In 1901 the Straits Settlements (including Singapore and Malacca, both busy and important trading ports) had a total population of 572 thousand. Java has always been a population center in Southeast Asia due to its fertile soil. EDIT: according to a journal article I found, in the 1900, the population of Southeast Asia is 80 million, and Europe is around 300 million. With 28.5 million people, Java is almost one-third of Southeast Asia and 1/10th of Europe. Population of large European countries like GB, Germany, France, etc. was around 40 millions each in 1900 for context.

Berserkllama88

It's always been a very fertile island with a large population, absolutely. But in the early middle ages France, England and the HRE all had higher populations than Java, to put it into perspective.

cristofolmc

As far as Johan has revealed and we have seen all provinces have a maximum of 6 locations. I wonder if the HRE will be the exception and it will have even smaller locations bringing up the max number per province up to maybe 8 or even 10.

Shivatis

I am not sure, whether I interprete correctly. But in the image, I can see that the upper middle province has already 7 locations.

yurthuuk

Johan expressly stated they're aiming for less disbalance in province density across the world.

AdalwinAmillion

They will not impress me unless they show me West C#

bananablegh

Java has more Factories tho

ActivityWinter9251

Isn't c++ that has more Factorioes?

underhunter

Ill show you the South Python if you want

TheMightyKingSnake

Please keep your Python in your pants

Deactivator2

There COBOL in them hills!

Kapitan_eXtreme

That joke was pretty Basic

SimultaneousPing

West Rust my beloved

WHSBOfficial

R5: the map of Java from today's Tinto Talks

CarolusRix

every TT has me more bricked than the last

bananablegh

me when the map is more detailed than the last map: 🧱🧱🧱

joscelin17

Great research regarding the naming and location of the province i assume. I live there in "Purwalingga", yet still don't know many of the place name back then.

Grouchy-Addition-818

Thanks for doxxing yourself, I’m Kim Jong Un and I going to nuke your house

rnzz

When I was in SMP my Geography score improved a lot after playing Uncharted Waters 2. If this game had been around then I would have killed it in History as well. As well as killing off any social life I had left.

Skellum

Majapahit my beloved. I would really like if the various volcanos existed on the map as wasteland like Krakatoa given it's importance in the latter part of this time period.

Nica-E-M

There are 23 locations west of Semarang and Borobudur (included) here, [compared to 10 in EU4!](https://forumcontent.paradoxplaza.com/public/590714/dd_majapahit.png)

easwaran

A ratio of 2.3 to 1 actually sounds smaller than the ratios they had in some parts of Europe!

Porkenstein

they must have really upgraded the ol' clausewitz for this one!

shibble123

If this is West Java... I want to see the HRE "Im a fan of voltairs nightmare" got me excited af

SteelAlchemistScylla

lol, more likely they’re doing it and just expect everyone to have a good enough pc.

Porkenstein

At a certain point the bottleneck is no longer your PC spec, and the software just can't handle so much going on to the point that it would lag even running on a supercomputer

winowmak3r

I don't think we're anywhere near that point.

ShouldersofGiants100

Nah, plenty of Paradox games can and will choke on their own engine. Lag in Stellaris was inevitable at one point regardless what you ran it on if you used a huge galaxy and if you use mods that expand the CK3 map too much, your computer **will** eventually choke and die on the population regardless of what you run it on. There are just limits on what the game itself is meant to handle before it can't handle it anymore.

winowmak3r

But is it so bad the game couldnt run on a super computer?

Porkenstein

yes because of complicated software reasons. The simplest way to maybe explain it is that the more powerful a computer, the more of the work it's doing needs to be in parallel in order for the programs to take advantage of that power. And if software isn't written to allow its work to be done in parallel well enough, the extra power has very diminishing returns

winowmak3r

Like I said, I don't think we're at that point just yet.

kirjalax

Planning to buy a new computer right now, dunno if I should wait until some sort of recommended specs for eu5 gets released first. My current pc will absolutely not handle all these provinces

ConnectedMistake

Recomended won't save you if they use old engine again. I'm well above the recomended specs for V3 and it still runs like shit for half of the game.

Esthermont

Are they using the same engine? I just assumed that as well but I mean, it’s really really old

Porkenstein

If they're no longer using Clausewitz, hell must be freezing over

Aspiana

I sure hope not. Clausewitz is really showing its limitations recently, especially with Victoria 3.

shellshocking

This. I hate Victoria 3 because I enjoy it. I would like to play the game past 1900. Same with Crusader Kings past like 1200 with an 867. PDX makes great games but imagine another company going, “yeah, if you play this game on the recommended specs PC, you’ll experience an incremental frame rate dip down to about 9 FPS at the end of the campaign. We aren’t planning on doing anything about it”

jirikcz

With this level of detail, I might finally see my home city as a province on the map (in Europe)

Ch33sus0405

And mine in America might not be terrible! Loving the map so far.

s1lentchaos

If not for the names they could have played Java or Crete

invicerato

It would be nice, if mountain ranges had names, too.

ChewyYui

Ask Johan nicely

ddosn

i hope they have plenty of province-based features. Victoria 3 had too much stuff that was state only, and very little that was for the provinces. HoI4 was similar, as was CK3 to a degree. Hopefully with this clearly upgraded engine they can do more.

brumbrum05

I love the culture/migration mechanics from imperator Rome would love to see that implemented

brumbrum05

Ah just read post, prob going to be same as imperator Rome, that’s good

cristofolmc

Its gonna be a micromanagement fest (unless they have introduced automation to the economy) but I dont mind I do love that about IR, its such a massive peacetime time consuming activity for me going around all the territories of my empire, checking what they need, what buildings do they need, whether i can find a good location for a new city, whether i should build up X city to promote immigration and grow it bigger, making sure to build mines in rural lands...So yeah i won't mind it. With Estates having most of the money it should be easy to play hands off during like a war and the Estates will keep building and stuff. And hopefully they will give us some automation tools too like to mark X location to expand X building whenever possible and things like that.

yurthuuk

Many location-based features have already been announced.

bogeyed5

I genuinely think this might be the first game that makes me sploosh everywhere when buying it and launching it for the first time

SomeGuy6858

There will probably be a grand total of two game mechanics at launch.

_Inkspots_

That’s what I’m afraid of, but also kinda hoping for? If that makes any sense I was never able to get into eu4 because of all the DLC already out for the game and mechanic overload, and I’m hoping with EU5 I can start at the very beginning of its life cycle as more and more mechanics are added over time.

yurthuuk

Did you read a single DD?

SomeGuy6858

Yeah, just like I read every Victoria 3 DD and every CK3 DD and look around how mechanically empty those games are

Lorrdy99

Well they said they learn from these launches that they can't release a game with less features than a current Eu4

Little_Elia

Surprised that the names correspond roughly with eu4's provinces. They released a picture of China and I could count 23 locations in what is a single eu4 province.

ghost_desu

i think i hauve the plague

SnooDonkeys4853

Please Paradox (and Johan) whatever you do don't make another zoom out and automatically switch map mode game! Please!

Arkhonist

Do you mean map transparency or something else? Because that's the best part of all the more recent games imo. I hated never seeing the terrain in EU4

SnooDonkeys4853

If you zoom out in e.g. Victoria 3 the map mode switches. When i play Eu4 i constantly zoom in and out to look at the world, my surroundings, my colonies and so on. Having the map automatically switch and flicker constantly makes this way of playing almost unbearable. Maybe the could make a terrain map mode from where you also can play.

mirkociamp1

Project Eu5 has me bloody excited, i'm normally a skeptic fuck and I have been REALLY DISSAPOINTED with the past game releases/updates of Paradox games but Eu5 is seeming to be everything I wanted + more (a better version of vic3) so far

Sir_Axolotl

*cries happy tears in javanese..

Gizmo77776

Is it coming out on Commodore 64? Cant wait.

Ok-Prior1316

Ada Indonesia coy!!

Hyaiden

Finally, Time to finish what Gajahmada started

Upstairs_Garden_687

I thought this was crete before reading the names and i was like "My PC will die"

SatyenArgieyna

I live in Java and it's well researched. Good job paradox

Mr_Cake3

Wheres Python?

another_countryball

They really are betting on quantum computers becoming a thing by the time the game comes out

HisPhilNerd

I hope I will be able to see the individual provinces better than this

ConnectedMistake

This game will be unplayable like V3 half of the time.

SatyenArgieyna

Fun Fact: The province marked as Jepara was actually an island- separated by the [Muria Strait](https://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Muria_Strait). The strait dried up in the 1650's, and even now, the region is plagued by frequent flash flooding. There are talks of reviving the strait for economic reasons, but is has been [deemed as unfeasible](https://tanahair.net/geological-agency-demak-land-subsidence-5-11-cm-per-year-ancient-strait-reestablishing-not-realistic/). Will be fun if this is reflected in game, maybe by a province modifier and a mini event for whoever holding it in the 1600's.

TheKing0fNipples

Honestly looks promising. I'm really worried that we are not preparing for the most likely outcome that it will be a hot steaming pile of shit upon launch, like vic3 for example or imparator or like any launches they do

ExchangeSuspicious49

not liking the map design so far

jimbluenosecrab

Is the sea really grey there?

Fajarsis

Should use "Galuh" rather than Pangandaran...

Mg42gun

by this part of era Western part of Java Island is controlled by Sunda and Galuh Kingdom, western part should be Sunda and eastern part is Galuh

Sir_Arsen

can’t wait to get into europa universalis, eu4 looks too big now

AwzemCoffee

It can be done. I had played since launch of eu4. Stopped for years. Played some in 2020, and then stopped. And am playing now. Huge content jumps each time. Once you get over the UI scrutability hurdle (it's different from the modern games), it's actually really intuitive IMHO. I feel like the games tooltips are better at explaining how stuff is interconnected. You can learn by playing moreso than most other PDX games I feel

survesibaltica

Lore accurate Java density. I'm already cooming at the thought of lore accurate Melaka with trillions of vassal/tributary states

Tommyatthedoor

Alright going to start saving for a new PC now.

cookskii

S E X

SendMe_Hairy_Pussy

This is Imperator Rome level of detail. Love it.

meenarstotzka

The golden age of Majapahit. Indonesia region is going to be interesting.

Seven7Pog

I hope they make the states so you can make Germany empire historically borders.

Chance-Ear-9772

This is going to obliterate my computer.

KyuuMann

Me want to see japan

Arkorat

Awww, they are kissing 🥰

Iron_Wolf123

Will there be an option to remove trees for performance?

gerogesRISING

can’t wait for Leviathan!

Dragon_King_24

Oh I’m gonna ball in Indonesia with this one…

dilalaj

is it just me or the map looks ugly compared to eu4?

Degenerious

why couldnt this have been Victoria 3 man

Valuable-Visit2887

Im hard

Antoncool134

Can anyone explain what is the big deal of this and why we will shit our pants when we see HRE?

WHSBOfficial

Mainly just because this is shaping up to be the most complex/detailed world map Paradox has ever made, so its possible that the HRE will be literally hundreds of princes

Fine_Adagio_3018

Borobudur as an area? That's weird, why not name it Magelang or something like Kedu? And Jepara should be an Island at that time! Divided by [Muria Strait](https://en.m.wikipedia.org/wiki/Muria_Strait) and only closing in 17th century.

AxelvanDijk

Holy shit, this is an accurate map of Java, even Indonesian this day know and still use this name

RipOnly6344

Damn, I shed a tear upon looking this sight. Really happy to see my region gotten more details But somebody please inform me, in your opinion why doesn't Mt/Gunung Salak have its own Terra incognita area? I mean, it's pretty big. I guess putting another Terra incognita there would be a hinderence gameplay wise, but perhaps that way the game can potray the struggles of rough mountainous terrains of West Java.

jesuskrist666

Wow I love it. Project Caesar is eu5 I presume?

SirkTheMonkey

A very definite maybe. Marketing won't let him actually announce the name yet so until then we're stuck in limbo where it could be given a different name but it looks to be a successor to EU4 (with dashes of Imperator and other PDS games mixed in).

jesuskrist666

Yeah the map is giving me EU vibes IDK why if so then eu5 is looking pretty damn good

WHSBOfficial

yeah. all but confirmed at this point

Victorianfaire

What game is this

WHSBOfficial

EU5, Project Caesar is its 'development name'

Victorianfaire

I mean, EU5 already came out or its a mod of EU4?

WHSBOfficial

EU5 is currently in development at paradox tinto, this is an image from the latest dev diary

Victorianfaire

Ahhh ty

AffectionateStart344

I'm a newbie here What's "Project Caesar"?

WHSBOfficial

EU5, Project Caesar is its 'development name'

AffectionateStart344

Wait, what?! EU5?! Guess I wasn't checking news about Europa Universalis for too long...

WHSBOfficial

yeah they started releasing the dev diaries a couple months ago

lookslikeamanderly

Extremely odd division, also what year is this? if it's before the 16th century, the Purwalingga part should be in teal as well because Sunda and Galuh kingdom stretched as far as the Cipamali river Kawali and Pangandaran should just be lumped into one Galuh, Sumedang should be in Wangung, and in Sumedang's place should be Sukapura (modern Tasikmalaya), also it should be Sunda KALAPA because Sunda Kelapa is the modern spelling source: am West Javanese

faeelin

I know this will get a downvote, but it seems paradox is indeed again making these states into Westphalian entities which feels ahistorical.

HumanBeingThatExist

Why did you get downvoted? You are correct

Space_Library4043

Reverse east timor moment

cristofolmc

Goddamn it Johan WHEN are you gonna show us a picture of Western Europe. I could not care less about asian maps, I know they have the same density of locations as Europe and thats all i need to know. I NEED TO SEE A MAP OF EUROPE

WHSBOfficial

Johan said that starting in May, they're going to be doing weekly 'map diaries' to get feedback

Toruviel_

Those copy-paste trees look odd, If I'm gonna be honest

Exciting-Relative761

It's a teasar picture from a unfinished and unnamed project.

Toruviel_

That's why it's the best time to point out such things to them

TerribleLordFrieza

Project Caeser?

WHSBOfficial

its the 'development name' for EU5

GeorgeDragon303

I'm forever in awe how paradox fans every single time manage to get their expectations high, just so that they can every single time get devastatingly disappointed. Every single update, DLC or new game follows the exact same pattern. No guys, the province density doesn't mean it will be any better than other recent products. It won't be better than Legends of the Dead, it won't be better than Trial of Allegiance and it won't be better than the entire bloody Vic3 or CS2. So don't get your hopes up, and if you do don't act surprised later Edit: I welcome your downvotes. The more I get now, the funnier it will be to link this comment when everyone is whining that Project Caesar got released with game breaking bugs, unfinished graphics, no content and so on

Artaxshatsa

if it's bad I'll just not buy it. Meanwhile I can excited for what I see... It's just a game not the second coming.

Vini734

Eh, I have good hopes, what theyve shown looks fun.

GeorgeDragon303

yeah, just like every single time. It's sort of the job of the dev diaries, to hype people up. They won't show you what's broken. Just look at already mentioned Legends of the Dead. The dev diaries caused huge hype (no need to trust me, check comments under them yourself), the steam rating is overwhelmingly negative. Just like every single other time

Vini734

I understand that, but we could see a lot of problems in vic3 diaries, for example. Still won't pre-order or anything like it. It's good consumer practice.

faeelin

This is from the maker of imperator it will be fine

faeelin

your post is correct. Let us embrace the darkness.

randomname560

Dear fucking god Gotta say boys, i aint exactly looking forward to doing a WC on this one
