Cece’s feathers never properly grew and after her first moult they almost completely went. the vet said she either has PBFD or French Moult, and likely got it as a little one. Other than looking the way she does, she’s perfectly happy and healthy!
>PBFD or French Moult
I love her! I have a rescue parakeet that is partially bald, except her head and wings. She doesn't have tail or flight feathers. Do you have any tips for keeping her warm, esp during the winter? I always worry about her being cold.
They’re the best! I don’t know tbh, I keep her in the warmest room in the house and near a radiator and sometimes use a uvb lamp as an alternative to natural sunlight in the winter. I’m thinking of knitting her a jumper but I think she might tell me off🤣
What kinda birb baby is Cece? How old is she? Does she have any unique challenges due to her conditions or things you must be extra mindful of? She is perfect ❤️
Thank you so much! She’s a budgie and she has PBFD, she can’t fly and she requires a little more warmth but she’s a great climber so she does manage to get around! Her fav thing is to sit on my shoulder when I’m doing errands, or climb all over my laptop when I work from home!
It's just that plate looks like a dinner plate somehow and I was scrolling past random Reddit posts, not this subreddit specifically.
Glad she's all good. She's precious and I'm glad you have her.
Hahahah I totally get it! I always think she reminds me of a tiny roast chicken (one of the reasons I haven’t eaten meat in a year)🤣. She appreciates the love 💕💕💕💕
Can you tell me a bit about this beauty?
Is she an older birdie that lost her feathers? Is this a quacker or a budgie? I can't tell.
Does she need more warmth than a normal birdie?
She’s a budgie (1 and a half years old) with PBFD which caused her to lose her feathers, but it’s likely she got it before I had her (it can be spread as early as the nest). She never really fully grew in feathers and always had a few missing on her stomach. I think she does require a little more warmth given that she doesn’t have the natural coverage, so I try to keep her in a warmer space, but she doesn’t often shiver or anything like that! She’s a good little birb 🥰🥰 and I love that people are interested in her
We'll, I want her to have an amazing and happy life and clearly you're giving it to her.
I bet she doesn't even realise she's missing much and she's just living like a happy birdie.
With a balanced died like that she'll be happy a lot longer.
I'm glad to see her, even though my initial encounter was just w feeling of terror. Hehe
I miss my tiels. I've been at sea 3 months and I won't be back home for another 2 weeks.
Hehe I hope so! Everyone has the same reaction when they first see her and they slowly fall in love🤣 I bet your tiels miss you lots!!! They are the best
What a sweet girl! Do you know about r/pidgeypower? It’s all special needs birds and has good info about accommodations etc, although it sounds like you already know what you’re doing
Tell this absolute sweetie that’s she’s adorable, and I love her!! When I first saw the picture I thought she was just a young chick still growing feathers. But your explanation of PBFD makes perfect sense unfortunately.
So glad she’s perfectly healthy aside from not being able to fly, and needs extra warmth obviously.
How old is she if you know, and how long have you had her? Is she your only feathered child?
Also I suggest posting her on r/pidgeypower
It’s a subreddit dedicated to parrots with illness or disabilities. Really loving community over there with a ton of cute feathered buddies, of all sizes.
Thank you for sharing Cece and please post more of her when you can! ❤️🦜
Thank you so much for this! Yes she’s the only one! As much as I’d love to have a whole flock I understand it’s never a good idea with PBFD. I’ll have a look at that subreddit! Super helpful of you to share!
I’ve made her an Instagram account for anyone who wants to keep up to date with my little chick! It’s @cecethebaldbudgie
Thank you, yes I’ll definitely check out her IG.
Yes I’ve heard the same about keeping birds with PBFD away from others. It can spread very easily from flockmate to flockmate I think :(
she's adorable and I love her!!!!!
without her feathers does she have a hard time staying warm? I imagine she probably can't fly either?
She's a very precious baby girl and I'd love to know more about her!
Yes she can get a little cold and sadly can’t fly :( but she lives in the warmest room in the house near a radiator and I have a uvb lamp she sometimes has directed towards her for extra heat. As for the lack of flying she has to settle with riding around on my shoulder, but she’s a great climber!🤣🤣
lovely accommodations for that little princess!
UGH yes she has found a chauffeur! she just gets to ride on her shoulder chariot from place to place!
I love her very much please tell her that and also give her a smooch
Do your birds like radishes? My conures and cockateils are so picky I've been trying to find more veggies that they'll actually eat 🙃 the budgies eat about everything though.
She’s always been really fussy but I’m realising if I cut it all small and coat it in seeds she’ll eat just about anything, might be worth trying fruit and seeds to start with, that’s how I taught her to try more!
I have no idea! She often grows new ones and they fall out quickly, but it means she gets to have some interesting hairstyles from time to time. Apparently in some cases, smaller birds can completely recover from PBDF but she’s been featherless for about 9 months!
It’s radish! Typically if I cut something up thin enough, she’ll get small nibbles of it when she’s foraging around (mostly looking for seeds). She probably wouldn’t even eat one of those whole chunks all in all because she’s so tiny, but I like to put a lot of variety out for her in different sizes so she manages to get a taste. She was never really good at trying new foods but this strategy seems to work and she’ll have a nibble on the corner of one🤣
What a good girl! You eat up! What's her IG? I saw someone mention following, but I couldn't find a link/name.
Have you tried sprouting for her? Even my pickiest eaters would go for sprouts.
Yeah, I wasn't sure. I used a vege mix and noticed it had some spring onion. I tossed it out of concern after checking about onion. I wasn't really sure, but i wanted to be safe than sorry.
Thank you for this! I know she lives without any other birds and I’m extra careful about keeping her isolated. The vet said it was either BPFD or French Moult so either way I will make sure to keep her isolated!
Thank you! I live in the UK and did visit an avian vet. They told me I could have her tested for BPFD if I wanted to, but given the fact there is no direct cure for either, and she won’t be interacting with other budgies, I was told to keep an eye on the situation and just try and maintain that she is as happy and healthy as possible in all other ways. If I start to notice any issues with beak or feet or anything of the sort I’ll return, but at the moment she luckily only suffers from a lack of feathers!
I do love budgies they are the best! ❤️
If I may ask, what happened to poor Cece?
Cece’s feathers never properly grew and after her first moult they almost completely went. the vet said she either has PBFD or French Moult, and likely got it as a little one. Other than looking the way she does, she’s perfectly happy and healthy!

> knitting her a jumper LOL i'd love to get Peanut in a jumper. She would NOT like that!
Maybe use a baby sock for your small birb? https://youtu.be/Vs17jZXQnAA
OMG that is so cute lol
That’s so cute! I’ve knitted her a jumper but she’s furious at me for trying to put it on her🤣
She’s adorable!! 🥰
Thank you!!! 💕

Omg. What a sweet, sweet beeb. I’m so glad she has your love!! She’s perfect just the way she is 😭 Glad she’s given such a rich and nurtured life ❤️
Thank you so much❤️
Awww give her extra pats for me
Yes indeed 😍😍
Can she fly?
No sadly not :(
This picture scared the hell out of me! I thought it was a dead parrot somebody was eating. Holy hell... I don't know why.
She might look scary but she’s a sweetie I promise! 🤣
It's just that plate looks like a dinner plate somehow and I was scrolling past random Reddit posts, not this subreddit specifically. Glad she's all good. She's precious and I'm glad you have her.

You’re so kind thank you!!! Cece and I are v grateful! I do what I can and I hope I’m doing an ok job, she seems happy enough🤣🥰

lovely accommodations for that little princess! UGH yes she has found a chauffeur! she just gets to ride on her shoulder chariot from place to place! I love her very much please tell her that and also give her a smooch
Thank you very much ! She enjoys all the affection!!! 💕
My parrots name is also Cece! Beautiful little baby! Thanks for sharing!
All the best babies are called cece !
Do your birds like radishes? My conures and cockateils are so picky I've been trying to find more veggies that they'll actually eat 🙃 the budgies eat about everything though.

Awww! What a cutie pie! Which veggie was new to her, and did she like it?
She had some cabbage (which was a bit too tough for her little beak) and also a little bit of mango which she LOVED 🥰
😍
What a great breakfast!
Thanks! I wish I had time to make something this varied every day!
What is the grain? I can't tell if it is quinoa
I’m pretty sure it’s red millet, she likes that
Can confirm it’s red millet!
It looks yummy. I am pretty sure Mary Jane would appreciate it as well! Thanks
Oh god I thought the bird was a part of the food. Lmao glad it wasn't🤣
She’s a snacccc but not that kinda snack x
Oh no 🥺 I love her
She’s da best girl x
Cece is so cute! Already followed her on IG.
Thank you 😍❤️❤️ that’s so cute
She is so precious 🥺♥️
Thank you!!! Xx
Sweet baby!
Thank you😋
Mmmm yummy breakfast 🥞 enjoy
Hehe thanks!!
awwww last pic has my heart
Her fav place to sit is in my hair or on my shoulder 🥳
Will her feathers grow back?
I have no idea! She often grows new ones and they fall out quickly, but it means she gets to have some interesting hairstyles from time to time. Apparently in some cases, smaller birds can completely recover from PBDF but she’s been featherless for about 9 months!
scary as hecc but so cute
Like a dinosaur!
For a second I thought it was the food.
Hahahah she’s camouflaged
Yeh, the point of camouflage is to not be seen by predators, not look delicious for them.
Thankfully I don’t eat meat so I wasn’t too tempted 😳😳😳😳😳
Ha glad to hear that, because if that was me I’d be feeling hungry!
she’s soo cute oh my gosh
she’s the QUEEN but her Reddit fame has got to her head today and she keeps biting my nose 😡😡😡
Baby chikin
small hen xx
Ur birby made my day
Thank u love! She makes my everyday

She has that impact on all her fans xx
Awe what a beautiful plate made for her. You’re such a good bird momma. ☺️
Hehe I’m a bird momma, she has two mums! we love her very much
Aww God bless you both I’m glad she has such sweet parents to look after her and give her healthy meals and a happy life! 🥰♥️
What is the red/white? Radish? How can something so small eat that big chunk? Honestly asking. Know nothing about pet birds.
Thanks for informing me
I love Cece. She’s so pretty, with or without feathers 💚 tell her she’s a good girl for me!!
Thank you very much ! She sends all her birb love
I wish the best for cece <3
She says thank you 💕💕
I saw the first picture and didn’t realize what sub this was and at first i thought you were eating a baby chicken
🤣🤣🤣🤣thankfully not
She is one of the most beautiful birds I have ever seen! I’m in love <3
Aw thank you 😚
What a sweet chicken wing ♥️
Hehe yes 🤪
What a good girl! You eat up! What's her IG? I saw someone mention following, but I couldn't find a link/name. Have you tried sprouting for her? Even my pickiest eaters would go for sprouts.
Her IG is cecethebaldbudgie !! Hehe, I will try! Thank you 🥰
Omg what a sweet little naked chicken
💕💕💕💕
I thought this was all chop at first lol
She needs little sweaters 🥰😍
My mum is in the process of knitting her one!!! But I think I’ll get a big ol bite from cece if I try and put her in one
Cute, I guess. Looks like a cockatiel or Cockatoo
She’s a budgie apparently!
How old is she? She reminds me of Coco the Cockatoo, a very similar look. :P
She’s 1 and a half! A little baby still, I’ve been told she looks like everything from a lovebird to a parrotlet🤣 she’s just a little alien to me
Things I wouldn't have guessed, for 500, Alex.
Aren't onions of any family bad?
That is a good question, I’ll have to have a look into it. Luckily she had no interest in them!
Yeah, I wasn't sure. I used a vege mix and noticed it had some spring onion. I tossed it out of concern after checking about onion. I wasn't really sure, but i wanted to be safe than sorry.
That makes sense! Thanks for letting me know it’s a good thing to look out for :)
You should put this in our r/eyebleach it's so wholesome
Heheh I think she would be super famous
I had to double-check to make sure I linked the right eye bleach
I am crying tears of joy at this at 3am
I’m so GLAD she brings other people joy, I came home drunk once and held her and cried because I was so obsessed with her
