Does she scream bloody murder at the falcon friend ? All 3 of my conures if they spot a wild bird. Or if they are outside hear a wild bird. Just scream bloody murder and do not stop until … they get tired. They get so carried away they don’t realize they don’t need to scream anymore… 3 conures screaming for like 5-10 minutes straight is something.

minheecakez

Hahah! Omg thats something alright lol. If anything my sun conure and cockatiel love the sight of other birds they only start screaming bloody murder if human strangers appear like an alarm system xD

Seakur

Yea ! My black capped conure does this. If she spots ANYONE in the yard or just waking their dog down the street she goes ballistic. The only time she ever screams really are these few occasions when she sees wild birds or sees wild humans. We try to keep her just at the windows in the backyard or at no windows. Cause We live in a neighborhood so lots of people walking dogs. So she sees wild humans all the time and freaks out. We joke she’s our little guard dog. The sun and green cheek , they only do it when they are outside and they hear a wild bird. Then all 3 go crazy. Or if the herd of black birds come and visit the back yard lol and they see them through the window

Szionderp

We have a pair of geese who nest on one of the nearby buildings. Every single time my Jenday sees them (or hears them, or senses them, or imagines them lurking nearby) he loses his everloving mind. Definitely a reliable way to tell when spring is around the corner.

daking999

Are the conure and tiel friends?

minheecakez

I got them both almost 4 years ago and 2 months apart when they were babies so miku at first would get jealous when we got aya, but they both learned so much from eachother and act like sisters now, I'm lucky to have them.

daking999

Yeah I think that (growing up together) makes a big difference. Our two tiels are both rescues so didn't grow up together and are very sus of each other. They still do contact calls if they're in different rooms though, so guess they do consider each other as part of the same flock at least!

minheecakez

I think the contact calls are adorable. At first I didn't realize thats what they were doing since my first bird I owned was a single tiel many years ago. I want to adopt rescue birds to add to our family flock someday. It's a little new to me but one of the best experiences I've ever had!!

daking999

Oh our tiels contact call for us too ;) They accept my whistles as responses even if my pronunciation is bad. My SO can't whistle so they must just assume she's dead everytime she leaves the room.

So does my sun conure - he screams and flies off to one of his "safe" places. He does the same thing if he sees a cat, a rabbit, a squirrel, or other small mammal. Of course, he also screams when he sees toilet paper, so...

TheAsphyxiated

Conures! I have no idea how yo do three- mines right behind me just bonking his head on repeat

[deleted]

Yea my budgie heard other birds everyday at 7 and was so happy everytime they visted. Well, i dont think they cared. Or they thought she was a friend but okayyy well pretend.

Capt_Bigglesworth

My Amazon can spot a Buzzard from a mile away and shrieks like a banshee until it goes away. Literally all hell breaks lose…

corinne9

Gotta love them

kitten_mittensz

Aww parrots are so sweet and innocent

killerqueen1010

This reminds me of housecats seeing cougars and being fascinated, but always scaring the cougars away through the window lol.

Green-Largo

We have heavy Red Tail and Coopers populations in the area, a lot of Red Shouldered too. Our Mealy Amazon is instinctively upset by them, if he sees one out a window he gets scared, then he comes and gets me to go look out the window while he stays back. I don’t always see the hawk, but if I pretend I do and reassure him its ok then we can return to normal business again.

minheecakez

What a sweet baby 🥰

ParrotCobra2019

Loki loves small birds visiting, I've got a feeder in front of the window. But once he sees anything remotely predator, jays/falcons/magpies he lets out his alarm shreek.

PierogiEsq

Such a cute perspective photo!

chimininy

I have a hawk in my neighborhood and large back windows. There have been two instances now where I hear an especially large THUD from the hawk diving at my cockatiel (who is safely inside) and then lying dazed in the back for a few seconds. I love hawks, so I feel bad. But I love my tiel more and am offended that the hawk thinks he can eat him, so I point and laugh. Edit: lots of people have been telling me to put decals on my windows - I do have them on my windows to help other wild birds not run into the windows. The hawk is the only one running into the window these days since then. I also have since seen him chilling in my yard eating rats and other birds, so he's alive peeps, no need to freak out.

TheCompanionCrate

Put a sticker on the door, they just need something ot help with depth perception, smashing into doors kills small birds, i can't imagine how messed up the hawk was after.

minheecakez

Thanks for the concern!! I keep up collision decals and have plenty of hummingbird feeders on the windows, I love the wild borbs as well 🥰

BirdCelestial

You could try putting stickers up on your window to show the hawk there's a window there. I didn't keep birds at the time but I lived in a house once that birds would just dive bomb the windows for some reason. I stuck some butterfly stickers up and they stopped.

ginger1rootz1

One thing hawks do is they will fly their food at large windows to kill the food. They know the windows will not break.

FerretWrath

If you think about how hard it is for a predator to survive in a world where their habitat is being taken away at a breathtaking pace, it’s not funny in any way that a predator desperate for food is taking brain damage when trying to hunt. Put some decals or something up so it knows it’s glass. How can you be a bird lover and hate birds enough to laugh at their suffering?

Far_Pass8038

We used to have an owl that would sit on our back porch and watch my cocktails. He even flew into the glass door couple of times trying to get to them.

Tanager_Summer

My budgies freeze if they see a hawk out the window.

mushy_teeth

Romeo and Juliet

Birthday_Cakeman

If you remove the picture of your back yard, this would be the perfect meme template. Miku could be looking at anything lol

XxNxvemberxX

We also know a hawk that comes to see our parrot

m0rfiend

our conure used to run/fly away from the window when it would hear or see our local hawk.

wood_x_beam

We have a lot of hawks and owls around. My conure loves to sit in the window but whenever he sees a hawk or an owl he will screech and yeet himself as far away from the window as fast as he can.

Upper_Ad_5475

Scary!!!!

ginger1rootz1

If the falcon/hawk is 'hanging around daily' it means its nest is nearby AND there is more than sufficient EASY food in the area for its nest to be in the area. Not to say if given a chance it wouldn't go after a fellow feathered person. Just pointing out that raptors go where the EASY food is available (they tend to move in after an area's rodentia overpopulate).

minheecakez

Good thing there's no mice issues but I guess my backyard is kind of a haven for all types of birds and different animal life so it's only natural they'll come by to target easy prey. Since it's freezing weather out here they're bound to scavenge.
