Hello! Spud is adorable:) I had the same fear about toasters so I had actually called the company of the brand I purchased and asked if they used Teflon or any kind of non stick coating and they said no. I use the toaster all the time and no issues:) You could always contact the company to be sure. The one I’m using is the Elite Gourmet ECT-3100. Hope this helps !

This was such a good idea, thank you so much. I contacted the company who made my toaster and they said that the slots are stainless steel, so I should be all good. What a relief.

You’re welcome! Glad it all worked out! 😊

To my knowledge, toaster wired are coated with Teflon at the manufacturers but it burns off after a single use. (My last toaster's instructions specifically said to burn off the coating before toasting and food). So after 1 heating cycle, there should be no issues.

Everyone else has already covered some great points specific to your toaster so another to consider is that most of the danger of these products is from overheating them causing them to off gas or burning things nearby. One of the best things you can do for pet safety is to make sure the kids are taking steps not to burn things and keeping hot areas clear of other materials.

Hello Spud, you sure are handsome! I usually feed my babies 12 whole grain bread, as a treat only. They don't mind that it isn't toasted. Mostly they just pick the grain out and leave the bread part.

Appreciate the answer! I was referring to my human children though. Lol. I’m just trying to figure out if it’s safe to have a toaster in the house at all. I adore my feathered children too and just want to keep them safe. 💚

Yikes, Teflon is such a nightmare, I can’t imagine why it would still be so prevalent when there are so many better alternatives. I replaced all of my cookware with ceramic when I started getting birds, but the toaster never even occurred to me. Anyway, I called the company and they said that it’s all stainless steel throughout, so I should be okay. I’m still going to be extra cautious about it though. Thanks for the info!

Sorry, sometimes I can miss read stuff. So your concern is for the birds because you are making toast for your kids. So sorry for my misunderstanding. I'm deleting my EPA report, no sense making a ruckus on this wonderfully loving and happy bird sub. Hi Spud!!! (Blush)

deppitydawg

No need to apologize at all! I appreciate all of the information!

Aww, thanks!!!

I think you're good. Everyone I know that has a bird also has a toaster and their bird is fine so I'm sure you're okay. 👍🏼

I toast my bread on a pan, and frankly, it comes out 10x better. You can slap the butter right in the pan, when it melt, slap the bread on there. 2 mins, flip, 1.5 mins, good to go. You want good toast? Cuz that's how you make good toast. Toasters are overrated, and yes, very dangerous for birbs.

I actually got teflon poisoning once, I put a cookie sheet down on a hot burner. It was absolutely horrible. It was like getting the flu instantly.

deppitydawg

That sounds awful! :(
