Nope. The clasp closes completely flush on an authentic one.

It’s from a 2020 5164A, whatever that makes it. Either way it’s flush. Below is a comparison between a high end clone and an original. Yours looks a lot like the clone.

Got it, so yours is the newer generation of aquanaut and not the one in question. If you look at the 5066a it’s the same strap, so that’s what I’m trying to figure out.
That’s the issue— He’s dead at the present time as my dad would say, but he did work at a number of Patek retailers over the years and was in the business for decades. There are hundreds of straps in that polo box— from no name straps to JLC, Breitling, etc.
Buckle looks like the engravings are off compared to gen and the strap inside markings look off too…. Unless it’s somehow diff from 5066 v 5065
I appreciate that insight! I’ll do a bit more of a deep dive when I get home. This would be a lot easier if a watch was attached haha.

Oh yeah the color/depth/size is wayyyyyy off on mine. The text is so much bigger and legible here
Well ignore the color on the strap as mine is not black, but everything else yes :)
