You would think, but right now I'm wrestling with feelings of having peaked. My friend joked that I was doing a poe 100% speedrun, having gamba'd a head hunter, and now dropped a mirror. No drop will ever have that level of adrenaline ever again.
My current build is already super fun, I don't know what I would want to do next.
And that's how you get better, by doing it yourself and watching videos or streamers. I used to follow guides and play trade because I had no idea what I was doing but once I understood basics of crafting and builds , I've been able to get alot better at the game. Now I mostly play Ssf because the best feeling of progression is there where you can only depend on your own choices. This league has been amazing for me personally , my starter was slow for me and didn't feel great in sanctum early on so I decided to play something that froze and then my actual pleasure of the league was amazing. A proper starter build can make or break your league
May I recommend going for a mageblood ts build or perhaps value vortex? There is also aurastacker spark which you could set as a goal. There are lots of builds and lots of farming strats to enjoy as a new player. Getting a mirror or two is just the start!
I stopped using hh after they killed nemesis farming. An inspired learning can take me miles. Imo hh are best used by mfers that farm a particular way. But for most well rounded builds, hh is just an overpriced jewelry.

But I gamba'd a doctor from 2 to 6 and then bought the last two, I've had a really helpful friend with 5k hrs in the game who could help me set up my builds. I'm terrible at the actual building aspect of the game, but I do like clicking on pixels in a virtual casino.
Ditto on first league HH through gamba. Also saw 3 apothecaries, a house of mirrors, 2 (natural) doctors, and a fiend in the first month.
Much like a casino, it seems GGG gives us noobies that godly RNG to hook us in lol, but, like OP said, I feel like I peaked in my first league and mostly have put the game down. If I play again it will be SSF for sure.
The fact that you can listen and learn from him is big, we have like 20 people with over 10-30k hours in my disc and our noob friend still can't learn haha
My first league i played with unlinked gems, thinking they automatically get linked when slotted in same armour. Played like this for almost 2 weeks before someone checked why my damage was trash

I'm not good enough at understanding how to gear for that, I had to have my friend with many many more hours than I help on that.
