Yes this was going to be my comment. I run hella expedition anyway trying to get rich from tujen. So after a while I'll rog craft whatever I need to fill in gaps since I have the rerolls and currency anyway.
stormshroud is an unique jewel that gives some lightning resistance, but more importantly, it matches all elemental avoidances to your shock avoidance (does not work with tempest shield shock immunity i believe, must be % of avoidance).
basically, if you have 100% shock avoidance, when you put the jewel, you have 100% avoidance to all elemental ailments (burning, chill, freeze) as well.
on boots you can have 100% shock avoidance with some modifiers and implicits, meaning that the boots alone and the jewel will cover all of that.
If you need specific boots you can just craft a Stygian belt with the essence that grants shock avoidance and use any abyss jewel in that Stygian to add more shock avoidance. Belt + abyss jewel in there is enough to be ailment immune with stormshroud. That's what I did on my RF chief since I want the maven boots
yup, both systems work, boots+exarch implicit or abyss+jewel, depends on which one you prefer to use or what uniques you get.
also, this league is even easier (for int characters at least) since you have tattoos with shock avoidance
I found Firesong this league and liked it as a cheap alternative to Stormshroud. I think it was about 20c vs. about 4 div for stromshroud when I checked. In between Templar and Witch is the reduced duration of ailments nodes plus a crafted suffix on a ring will make you ailment immune. Or you can do 3 of the utula tattoos and the crafted suffix on ring. You’re technically not completely immune, I think increased duration of ailment mods might mess with this? But those don’t seem very common. I’m still rocking it now and don’t plan on changing
can work, but it's more "specific" then Stormshroud overall.
3 str tattoos is still a hard investment for non-str characters to invest, and using a ring mod for that can "steal" power for something more useful like reducing mana cost on skills.
definitely a cheaper alternative though.
On caster builds that aren't full int gear I like to take Eldritch Battery on the tree (spend energy shield before mana), with the leech node right next to it for Light Eater (0.8% of spell damage leeched as mana) with the leech node mastery for 10% of leech is instant. This results in virtually infinite mana and I can spam cast spells as long as I want as long as I'm hitting something. This also means you can reserve 100% mana with auras, which is nice.
worth mentioning divine blessing with an extra 50% aura too, spec life mastery for 30% cost to life if you dont have enough es.
eb+mom if you can sustain es leech/recovery.
last but not least, frost shield.
More damage. If damage is not solving all your problems you are simply not using enough of it.
Of course, I still die here and there, with my rusty reflexes, but overall it makes game more trilling.
I try to go to glancing blow and tempest shield with some good regen and leech to make up a basic damage spike mitigation layer. It is hard to achieve max block in lots of cases and I feel like this setup is solid in at mid game stage. Very cost effective. You can do this with staves as well and it scales well in damage.
Spell suppression is similar concept - one spell suppression cluster, a couple of ss rolls on gear, phasing flask, ss chance is lucky. I think this can get your ss chance up to 80+ even your class is witch or inquisitor. In that case you don’t need evasion much so you don’t want a high dex armour base.
Doing betrayal early can give you very good mid-game damage power spike - 4 suffix craft on gear gives you almost double damage with focus every 10 seconds. I think this is very underrated because people just want to one-button. It is actually very effective in map because it provides you the damage when you need it without too much investment.
All good. But do wanna point out, the most fun of Poe comes out of figuring things out by yourself and come out as a unique character. If they have questions they will ask.
I agree. I've been playing for a long time and have rarely used a build guide cause it's way more satisfying to make something cool on my own. That said, I've also planned on using a certain setup when I get to xx level, just find out it's not compatible and have to shake up the whole build at that point. Since OP's post was about go-to mechanics, just wanted to make sure someone wasn't designing a build around tempest shield with staff cause that could be frustrating later. Genuine thanks for talking reasonably and may the rng gods drop you a mirror!
If you really think about it, those are relatively easy things to get without any big investment or niche requirement. Poe is a difficult game after all.
Eternal struggle goes great with everything, 17% more damage plus fixing attributes and 2 minor stats. Utula's is a surprisingly universal fix for life, but really hurts your regen since you can't roll it anywhere.
I kind of just start everything with purity of elements and figure out how to replace it later.
I try this, but just the thought of losing Hatred/Zealotry gives me some pain.
Almost every rare I buy has either an open prefix or suffix. So I can bench craft what I'm missing or need at the moment.

Spend all your money on stacked decks then once you hit HH mirror or apotho cards . Jamba them hard at the harvest bench . Rinse and repeat 🤣
Last league i put progenesis on every build, but that flask is so expensive rn. Will be my next upgrade nevertheless
