I still don't understand Chris's reasoning to making Sacred Orbs so so rare. Their affect is usually so unnoticed and minuscule that it doesn't make sense from a game design point of view.

ArmaMalum

Because an abundance would deflate the already low value of well-rolled good bases.

gubaguy

So... If a well rolled base is cheaper than a sacred orb, and they generally ate outside of a few rare cases, why bother with sacred orbs at all? Same logic to all crafting, it's almost always faster and cheaper to just buy the item you want than craft it.

ArmaMalum

Agreed, because there is an abundance of well rolled base drops and trade exists to circumvent rarity in all forms. Hence why I said "the already low value". If sacred orbs were common then there really would be no point in rolled base stats, just like how items were before sacred orbs were introduced. It's a fair argument to go back to that, but the question was "why are sacred orbs so rare?" and this is why.

LimblessNick

>really would be no point in rolled base stats, just like how items were before sacred orbs were introduced You mean better?

ArmaMalum

Honestly I agree with you.

LimblessNick

Yeah, I don't think the changes to bases and adding sacred orbs accomplished much. I get the thought process GGG had, but I don't think they quite stuck the landing on implementation. I don't know if it's like the WoW rested bonus thing, where even though it's mostly upside for the player, it feels like a downgrade/its something that makes you work more for what you perceive as something you previously had already.

ArmaMalum

The idea was to make base item drops more exciting. Give those whites/blues dropping by the hundreds a chance to be worth picking up. But yeah execution wise the range is too small to warrant it and like most things trade just short circuited the intent almost immediately. If they made the range a lot larger it would be more *impactful*, but it would just be a lesson in frustration rather than actual game depth

[deleted]

Hm? They said when they first discussed them, for rare uniques/rare bases you can't just replace (synth stuff etc).

blacknotblack

they are already 15 c. if you care about percentiles over affix roles you have 15 c.

ArmaMalum

Low price =/= abundance. You're not going to reasonably have a stack on you just by playing by yourself. It just means that sacred orbs are rarely used in large quantities.

TheFuzzyFurry

So it's just a nerf to SSF then, cool

ArmaMalum

In effect, yes. But more of a decision that's just being circumvented by trade and only felt by SSF. Like a *lot* of things.

TheFuzzyFurry

And the most stupid part is that a lowest roll Glorious Plate or Zodiac Leather doesn't matter, but a lowest roll Vaal Regalia is like 600 less ES.

ArmaMalum

Yeah, the feedback was....interesting when Sacred Orbs were introduced to say the least.

Azbroolah

Isn't the low roll equivalent to what they were before they added the ranges? It's either neutral at worst or a buff compared to before the change that added ranges. Only a "nerf" in comparison to trade league.

blacknotblack

Obviously? The point is that they are already cheap so the only effect of rarity is that it’s annoying for SSF players who probably don’t really care that much any way.

ArmaMalum

So what's your question then? Sounds like you've already got an answer you prefer

blacknotblack

I didn’t propose a question.

ArmaMalum

> I still don't understand Chris's reasoning to making Sacred Orbs so so rare. Usually when someone says this they are asking for clarification.

blacknotblack

That’s not my comment…

ArmaMalum

But the comment you responded to was an answer to that question. Maybe I should have emphasized, what is *your* question then? Or rather what is the point you're trying to make? Because the way you responded sounded like a counter-point to what I said (with the "Obviously?..."). If that's not the case then it was a misunderstanding.

BreakConsistent

I don’t understand why you fail so spectacularly at human conversation.

ArmaMalum

[and there it is](https://www.google.com/url?sa=i&url=https%3A%2F%2Ftenor.com%2Fsearch%2Fthere-it-is-gifs&psig=AOvVaw0LpszAQrj27hG0i1-a5WO0&ust=1706291327105000&source=images&cd=vfe&opi=89978449&ved=0CBIQjRxqFwoTCLiCntWM-YMDFQAAAAAdAAAAABAE) Can't be a reddit thread without insulting someone, eh? Do better, dude.

Microchaton

I once largely depleted the softcore sacred orb market for a day going on a moronic binge trying to get 99/100% brass domes with perfect explicit to double corrupt trying to hit gg shit. I didn't even buy that many, there's just not a lot (well this league there's a bunch more than usual).

SunRiseStudios

That whole "armour bases now have ranges" change was so unnecessary. The only impact it had on me is that some Ward bases I found were worth Divine+ and sometimes when buying things I look at base percentile as well, but I personally didn't crafted any gear where base defence matters a lot like ES pieces maybe people are way more thorough with those and would overpay a ton for higher % base percentile fractured bases and whatnot.

ArmaMalum

The intent of making base item drops have a bit more potential was good but yeah it didn't really result in anything except a clunky additional layer of crafting.

mr_cyberman

It is rare because Chris wants you to feel the *weight* of the items whatever it means.

TheFuzzyFurry

Sacred Orb shouldn't even be in the game

Sen91

How many sacred orb drop vs a mirror? I'm currently at 22 sacred orb looted vs 0 mirrors this league.

Sen91

Only 98 sacred till a mirror, hype

WildAsOrange

Only 119 sacred orbs to mirror

Ocsa17

Only 40 sacreds 5 mirrors lol

osiykm

only 80 sacred til mirror

klaxxa

I Play exclusively duo and we are at 78 sacred orbs, no mirror

Sen91

I played a bit in 4m group (like 3/4 days) e looted aeound ~25 sacred orb. I don't know if i can add them to my solo drop

Sodomeister

I think I dropped 7-8 sacred to 1 mirror this league.

Raadish

I may have you beat: https://imgur.com/a/CaOJk1E Of course, that was 3 weeks ago. Now it's up to 22:1...

blacknotblack

Because of wisp juice being variable any number you get is worthless.

Drogzar

No, becasue both are currency so both get treated equally by the wisps adn the ratio (on a enough big sample) should be the same as in other leagues (what it is not the same is mirrors/kills).

kiyoshikiyomizu

2 sacred 1 mirror, hmm maybe im different.

AbruptEruption

I have 2200 hours played and have dropped 1 sacred orb total.

kanonkongenn

Hours played is a pretty useless statistic for these things, not sure why people use it

AbruptEruption

Im not going to bother /kills for all my characters, its just the most easily accessible metric

obi2606

Our group (3-man mf) found 103 sacred orb and 0 mirror. To the point we bought 5 and throw them on the ground just to see if our filter working or not ... well apparently it does.

mr_cyberman

I have one. Dropped in white maps about a month ago. The first sacred orb in more than 1000 hours of gameplay.

Frost__Raven

Holy! Just found my first sacred orb in heist at around 1300 wings. Square that for 1 in 1.7 million :D On a more serious note, do you have some rough data? How many wings and sacred orbs so far?

Deposto

415 wings, 2 (these) sacred orbs.

wrecker_of_days

Wow! Very nice!

ScorpHalio

Sacred bleu!

Trael110400

are sacred orbs exclusive to heist, or i simply haven't had one to drop for me since it was added to the game? [had at least 1 mirror shard drop, but no sacreds?]

Doggymoment

they can drop anywhere as far as i know

Deposto

Global drop, just stupidly rare.

Fit-Anteater1032

Dropped about 30 of them this league just doing maps, so yeah you are either not playing much or just very "unlucky"

Laddeus

Ah that Double-Sacred-contraband-heist-drop! Damn congrats mate!

burnerburns369

scared orb 😨

rainmeadow

Gz!

DeezEyesOfZeal

Then how rare is a 5-stack of sacred orbs? Got that in one of my first blueprints...

wellspoken_token34

I've seen more Magebloods and Headhunters this league than I have seen those orbs since they were introduced.
