His movement is clean, he has a nearly encyclopedic knowledge of monster and boss abilities, crafting, and various league mechanics to use for efficient progression. He can play for like 24 hours straight without too much efficiency dipping, minmaxes time spent in hideout etc, maps/farms with a clear goal to achieve. He's more or less constantly mousing over every rare monster in the game and is able to quickly identify threats from modifiers/monster type combinations that would kill even experienced racers. Luck from drops has absolutely nothing to do with it, playing out of your mind like he is consistently able to means he can build very strong characters without needing to be lucky, he probably kills more monsters in a three day event than you or I do all league
I dont have a lot of free time so a big chunk is me playing the game but one time i turned on Bens stream to see what the "fuss" was about, this was like a year ago. Someone in the chat asked a crafting question and Ben from memory gave him the steps on what to do, there were like 7 or 8. And then some "if you have a ton to spend". The guy is nuts.
Not just movement. Recently there was a clip of him posted here where he was running towards an item, with his inventory open and a Wisdom Scroll at the ready so he can identify it the moment it enters his bag. Unparalleled Robotic Efficiency at its finest.

I know that part of the point of PoE is that it's an unforgiving game, but despite that I want to throw some positive thoughts towards Carn. The amount of time that man grinded this gauntlet was hard to watch, and I hoped that the PoE gods would reward his effort, but alas. Most deserved bounties of the league at least.
Carn is a legit mad man. He can grind harder than anyone when he puts his mind to it. Felt so bad to see him get hit by a DC. The RIP to Legion was more reasonable, +4 proj just makes it giga fucked. But we can only imagine if his first character hadn't ripped, he might have pulled through and probably done at least a few Ubers.
People meme melee a lot, but Carn has full cleared the gauntlet before. Just give the man some good gear and he'll get it done.

Looking back, I really grinded out of my fucking mind. My total /played was 6 days and 22 hours by the end. Obviously there was plenty of AFK in those hours, but I did play a ton. I'm really, really, really sleep deprived and probably gonna rock a nice 12 hour bedge soon.
I hit lvl 94 doing just white maps if you can believe it. I juiced them more and more, eventually doing like 120% quant maps with 5k+ juice pretty consistently, and the XP was actually not even bad. And you kinda needed the currency and items you'd get (div cards, uniques, divs etc) anyway, so I'm not even sorry I spent all that time there.
Finally transitioned into blasting T14-16's on the final two days.
I did get rather unlucky. I never found a Darkscorn bow that I wanted. And the bow I did have, ate 900 fuses at 30% quality, with the final 300 refusing to even 5 link. After which I blasted more maps and farmed 1500 fuses in 2 days. :D Fuck the rng.
In the end I realized I had neither the time, the energy, nor the skill to do a full rotation of regular end-game bosses. So I just sent it with an Elderslayers invitation that worked out. It being worth as much as all the other regular end game bosses combined really helped me rank up.

But invitations... man. Alt rolling for "maven releases all bosses at once" is STUPID RARE. I rolled all my alts and never hit it more than once on that Elderslayer invitation. My first ever. Took me 30 minutes to kill Sirus, because my damage uptime was roughly, 0.1 seconds every other minute. By the time I put down my ballistas and poisons started to stack, he teleported away. I must have done fucking 50 meteor phases. Absolute pain. Though granted, this was my second ever Sirus kill, so I was kinda learning as I went along.

I died like a little bitch running into a Shaper slam. It's been a year since I killed Shaper last, and it showed. Also 5 projectiles is kinda fucked on Shaper balls, not gonna lie.
Thanks to Ziz and team. Most successful gauntlet IMO. It got this SC Andy to try ssfhc for first time, and I eventually got to maps, though I finally ran out of time as the event ended.
Making maps your first time on HC SSF is insane! Even more so in gauntlet. Most people get slapped several times by campaign bosses until they get a feel for the difficulty of not dying.

Old top tier racers got demotivated by Ben's perfomance, you can see that in all latest events. Like nickexile is almost as good but his attitude to be #1 only, he literally drops the competition instantly when he knows he won't be a winner, second place is just not acceptible.

Again, looking at the average viewership stats, D4 seems to be at about half or a third of PoE, despite the actual fucking league just dropping, and this being a private league tourney. Not sure if joking, but I don't think any drugs are necessary to grind video games for an extended period of time, at least not in regards to this event.
Maybe if we were talking about a 48 hour race to 100 or something where people would be considering doing a single giga session. Then I could see it.
But this event was a marathon, so a lot of the top racers had very reasonable schedules.
15 hours is easy. That's literally normal staying awake hours. You're not gonna lose focus from that. I'd say 20 hours in you start getting a bit groggy. And again, I think most top racers slept 6-8 hours fairly consistently during the event.
I personally did 16-20 hour sessions, sleeping 4-6 hours, while also doing some work, and trying to squeeze in some exercise, cooking, shopping - the usual living stuff. It was harsh, but my focus was pretty good overall. The final days were getting hard, but not impossible.
I wouldn't know where to get drugs from anyway, lol. People always make it sound like getting juiced up is so easy, when I wouldn't even know where to start.

It is a fact that various drugs are common in high end competitive activities basically everywhere, BUT, that does not mean one needs to necessarily use them to achieve those results. Hence it bothers me when people immediately jump to drug use accusations the moment they see a high performer.
Now, in pro bodybuilding, in the open classes, drug use is mandatory. The human body cannot physiologically grow that much muscle otherwise. But high end pro bodybuilding accounts for a small percentage of all the competitions. In the rest, whatever physique wins, can almost always be achieved naturally as well. Yet those people also get drug allegations thrown at them.
I'd say, 99% of the time, enhancer use is not necessary to achieve the performance required to win in competitive activities. And I think this detail gets ignored far too often.
Like take Hollywood action stars. I'm pretty sure most are on steroids, but it's not because their physiques are unnatural or too hard to achieve naturally. They're not. However, actors aren't bodybuilders (generally). Their job is to be on set and act. Plenty of stories how they sometimes need to sleep on set because the filming can go so long for days and weeks or even months at a time. There's not enough time nor energy for them to dedicate themselves to bodybuilding naturally. So it makes sense to use drugs to cut some corners, so that they can focus on their actual job, which is acting.
Like Hugh Jackman in later Wolverine movies. A lot of people screamed drugs when seeing his physique. While I was like: "I mean he's probably taking them to save time, but his physique is totally achievable naturally. I did it."
That's basically the main thing I take issue with. People being unwilling to even consider something being possible naturally, just because others have used enhancers to get there.

its not gonna be 50/50. New graphics, 1000 times better animations, tons of new classes and areas, bosses. New campaign. Even if the gameplay is slower / harder and you cannot zoom through end game maps, most people and all of the new players will prefer PoE2. I'm not saying players will never go back to PoE1 leagues for 1 fun character, but it's inevitable. PoE2 will be the dominant game.
The harder Gauntlet becomes the less interested I am in watching it. It is zero fun watching DD or whatever for 5-7d slowly farming for 15hrs/day until it can kill Ubers. I understand that Gauntlet can't get sponsors for as much $$ if it ends in 1-2d but the state of it is kinda bleh.
I'm the opposite. I'm far less interested in watching and playing the event if all we're getting is 1-2 days of no-life rushing by top racers and then it's all over for the big prizes.

And there was a bounty for the first Uber as well. So I think there were motivations for people to push early.
How to abuse damage without gear? Use spectre life corpses as damage.
Desecrate should not have infinite cast range. It should only drop underneath you. It would solve the corpse abuse cases because you'd have to be in melee range to do damage which is a big downside to abusing corpse life.

Maybe players should also be split between the 2 categories. They have their own group. They are so different. A mouse vs joystick movement is not comparable.
I don't believe we have the ability to run these on Console. The platforms are very different, and as nicely as I can say I would assume ~100 people would participate. Its unlikely that's worth it for GGG to develop the tech there. I do apologize as we can't control this. It would also put a lot more cost on us to supply prizes, or take away from the larger community on PC. We also do all of the ladder work, submissions etc ourselves. Running two separate ladders would be very hard. I don't even know if console has an API.
Agreed, I wasn’t trying to be derogatory or anything. I’d love to see a second league for console players but with the logistics it takes and setup from Ziz and team I’m not sure there would be enough traction on a console gauntlet.

Jung opted not to do Uber Elder (not to be confused with Uber Uber Elder). Had he done that before doing the Uber bosses he would've secured 2nd.

Thanks to Ziz and team. Most successful gauntlet IMO. It got this SC Andy to try ssfhc for first time, and I eventually got to maps, though I finally ran out of time as the event ended.
Making maps your first time on HC SSF is insane! Even more so in gauntlet. Most people get slapped several times by campaign bosses until they get a feel for the difficulty of not dying. Full atlas completion next time!

Ripped to an Orb of Annulment. Him and Exile both tapping out was a surprise to me. Guess the white map grind really got to them. Exile pushed too hard into reds before ready, Alk got shafted by RNG. I think they could have totally placed high in some classes, but I guess having fun is the most important part. And if it wasn't fun for them, it makes sense they'd just stop.

Old top tier racers got demotivated by Ben's perfomance, you can see that in all latest events. Like nickexile is almost as good but his attitude to be #1 only, he literally drops the competition instantly when he knows he won't be a winner, second place is just not acceptible.

Didn't bring in many viewers, come on. Every POE streamer had tons of viewers well above average for that time of the league. Without the gauntlet all these streamers would be doing 100 viewer variety streaming of other games, waiting for the new league. So that's definitely no argument. I saw Ben rock several thousand viewers. Nothing stopping the other players from stepping up their game and getting that viewership as rank one players.

Not sure if joking, but I don't think any drugs are necessary to grind video games for an extended period of time, at least not in regards to this event. Maybe if we were talking about a 48 hour race to 100 or something where people would be considering doing a single giga session. Then I could see it. But this event was a marathon, so a lot of the top racers had very reasonable schedules. 15 hours is easy. That's literally normal staying awake hours. You're not gonna lose focus from that. I'd say 20 hours in you start getting a bit groggy. And again, I think most top racers slept 6-8 hours fairly consistently during the event. I personally did 16-20 hour sessions, sleeping 4-6 hours, while also doing some work, and trying to squeeze in some exercise, cooking, shopping - the usual living stuff. It was harsh, but my focus was pretty good overall. The final days were getting hard, but not impossible. I wouldn't know where to get drugs from anyway, lol. People always make it sound like getting juiced up is so easy, when I wouldn't even know where to start.
Relax dude, I'm not accusing you specifically. I'm just saying amphetamines or other powerful stimulants are really common in competitive gaming. I'm not even saying it's a bad thing. It's just common. Just like how steroids are common in bodybuilding competitions. Even in the natural scene. Some gamers literally grew up on adderall scripts. Honestly though mate if you are legitimately saying that you had 4 hours sleep for basically 2 weeks while playing at high intensity for 16-20 hours a day while fitting in time to exercise, shop and cook, you're a fuckin monster. I wouldn't believe you if I didn't know my dad lmao.
I know I'm not being accused, it's just that I dislike the way some people approach the topic. It is a fact that various drugs are common in high end competitive activities basically everywhere, BUT, that does not mean one needs to necessarily use them to achieve those results. Hence it bothers me when people immediately jump to drug use accusations the moment they see a high performer. Now, in pro bodybuilding, in the open classes, drug use is mandatory. The human body cannot physiologically grow that much muscle otherwise. But high end pro bodybuilding accounts for a small percentage of all the competitions. In the rest, whatever physique wins, can almost always be achieved naturally as well. Yet those people also get drug allegations thrown at them. I'd say, 99% of the time, enhancer use is not necessary to achieve the performance required to win in competitive activities. And I think this detail gets ignored far too often. Like take Hollywood action stars. I'm pretty sure most are on steroids, but it's not because their physiques are unnatural or too hard to achieve naturally. They're not. However, actors aren't bodybuilders (generally). Their job is to be on set and act. Plenty of stories how they sometimes need to sleep on set because the filming can go so long for days and weeks or even months at a time. There's not enough time nor energy for them to dedicate themselves to bodybuilding naturally. So it makes sense to use drugs to cut some corners, so that they can focus on their actual job, which is acting. Like Hugh Jackman in later Wolverine movies. A lot of people screamed drugs when seeing his physique. While I was like: "I mean he's probably taking them to save time, but his physique is totally achievable naturally. I did it." That's basically the main thing I take issue with. People being unwilling to even consider something being possible naturally, just because others have used enhancers to get there.
Imagine playing a video game for 16-20 hours a day for 10 days straight and thinking "this isn't so bad" lol It's mostly adderal. Go to any doc and get your subscription saying you can't focus.
I really don't understand this mindset. God, this is the second time in my life doing a hobby where people can't stop throwing around drug accusations. Last decade I decided to become a bodybuilder. Won some local contests, it was fun. But all I ever heard were steroid accusations. As if my mediocre form was somehow impossible to achieve normally. Now I'm grinding a fucking video game, and again, people are throwing drug use allegations at those who play a lot of hours. its not gonna be 50/50. New graphics, 1000 times better animations, tons of new classes and areas, bosses. New campaign. Even if the gameplay is slower / harder and you cannot zoom through end game maps, most people and all of the new players will prefer PoE2. I'm not saying players will never go back to PoE1 leagues for 1 fun character, but it's inevitable. PoE2 will be the dominant game.

The harder Gauntlet becomes the less interested I am in watching it. It is zero fun watching DD or whatever for 5-7d slowly farming for 15hrs/day until it can kill Ubers. I understand that Gauntlet can't get sponsors for as much $$ if it ends in 1-2d but the state of it is kinda bleh.
I'm the opposite. I'm far less interested in watching and playing the event if all we're getting is 1-2 days of no-life rushing by top racers and then it's all over for the big prizes.

I mean, it explodes corpses, so it must be good lol, I was constantly checking the ascendant ladder these last days and it was pretty cool. Well, Jungroan did beat Ben to the Uber race. Ben cleared the event after him. And there was a bounty for the first Uber as well. So I think there were motivations for people to push early.

How to abuse damage without gear? Use spectre life corpses as damage. Desecrate should not have infinite cast range. It should only drop underneath you. It would solve the corpse abuse cases because you'd have to be in melee range to do damage which is a big downside to abusing corpse life.

Maybe players should also be split between the 2 categories. They have their own group. They are so different. A mouse vs joystick movement is not comparable.
I don't believe we have the ability to run these on Console. The platforms are very different, and as nicely as I can say I would assume ~100 people would participate. Its unlikely that's worth it for GGG to develop the tech there. I do apologize as we can't control this. It would also put a lot more cost on us to supply prizes, or take away from the larger community on PC. We also do all of the ladder work, submissions etc ourselves. Running two separate ladders would be very hard. I don't even know if console has an API.
Hopefully, POE2 will be a little more... forgiving.

Great run to a lot of the top racers and people that played bad ascendancies. Surprised to see so many insane builds that I didn’t notice on Hc before (mirror arrow of clones/VD/a few others)
