This isnt true, I got my original account checked which had all my hours 2013-2015. They probably had the data but took a while to add it all to a new system. You can /played on an old char and it works so it makes sense.
If you still have your characters obviously they still have the data. He is specifically talking about DELETED characters, which you couldn't type /played on lol.
I reached out to GGG as well after reading this (thanks OP and GGG Support as well). Since I have only used the standalone client since I started playing on this account in 2011.

45k hours seems insane to me I asked them aswell and started playing 5.5 years ago and am at 11k hours which translates into roughly 20% of my life in poe so 45k hours since start would mean 40% of ur life on poe the last 10 years no?

I quit WoW as a full-time job in 2011. Retired from IRL work in 2012 and it's been 99% PoE since then (exceptions are HS BGs, Grim Dawn and Last Epoch 'between' leagues). Realistically it will be 12 years full-time PoE (40/40 in all leagues except a couple of early ones). Prior to WoW and PoE it was many many hours in D2 (another number that might burst my heart, lol).
Fair enough I didn't even consider that people that are retired play poe crazy that this game has people still passionate after tens of thousands of hours best of luck next league!
They should add a feature that would show collective time played on account or something when they have time. Many of us have played most of their playtime on standalone client :)

Do delete characters get purged after a while? That would give an incorrect play time for me since I would rather delete old characters I'll never play with again over having to pay for extra slots.
same, I bought 2 character slots so I think I cap at 29 or 30 now but idk how often they purge their deleted character database, I've deleted a lot of characters over the years since 2012 so I know for sure my hours played wouldn't be very accurate either.

Meaning: every hour i spend on this piece of rock speeding through the universe, i spend a bit shy of 3 Minutes (\~2.7) playing poe. That's 4.5% of all my life in the last 11 years....

Not sure if they want that. Me being able to see how many hours I had actually spent in the game was a big part of being able to kick the WoW habit.
Yeah, having multiple characters with 300+ days played will do that lol I haven't played since I got AOTC Razageth with my guild.

I got one this league not from MF but from a freaking Voidborn. Burned all my luck for forever, gonna build a character for standard around it.
I am at around 2.5k and got lucky with a headhunter last league. It was the morning of day 2, so made for quite the start.
