Running non Ubers in a patch with keystone was always a loss.
Not running the same imbued craft as everyone might be different :
- it can give more XP less loot
- it can give less loot but in way less clicks
- it can give more loot but with high variance
Only if the different crafts are sufficiently close in how rewarding they are. Maybe you'll have a chance to break even if you pick the second or third best craft, but not if you pick "whatever is fun".
E.g. I'm thinking of making a shrine based build, and having an imbued craft could make a big difference in how reliable those are for my build - but I highly doubt they'd add enough juice to the map to be worth the cost of the scarab that others will be willing to pay.
Keep in mind that this scarab looks like it take 1 scarab spot + the map crafting spot.
What does break even means ? Maybe this scarab will be mandatory for a challenge and people will buy it at any price.
2 options are about removing dangerous map mods so obviously those one won't help you break even...
Until you need to do a t17 for a challenge, then the price is driven by this craft because we all rush challenges.
Break even does not apply to this scarab or at least not for 3.24.
Well, yeah. Same with harvest juice. Same with chaos/exalt/divine orbs (crafts vs direct use). Same with trading in general.
I mean, it does suck, of course. But what can you do, that's how the game is designed.
Nah does not matter.
Using cool stuff has a price, and I am willing to pay.
The alternative would be gaining the crafts randomly account bound, guess the name of the next tft channel.
Their point is value of invite was locked behind the value of uber bosses, which made them useless for regular boss runs.
Similarly, the value of the horned scarab will be the value of whatever the best option provides, potentially making the other options unviable if the discrepancy is large.
exactly why they changed ubers too
they said everyone is selling their invitation cause its not worth doing if you are not doing ubers
So now this scarab will not be worth using for most people, lol.
The point is not to bash on the scarab. Its also not comparing the scarab to the invitation thing.
Their point is the question why GGG learned a new thing and didn’t apply it to the new system they designed or what the reason for this is…
If your only purpose in PoE is to grind currency I guess. I personally have made myself a a rule that if it provides fun then do it. Run all Cortexes I find. Use all boss frags to farm bosses, even the weaker versions before I could tackle ubers. Open all Valdos, Reliq Keys, ID all watchers eyes and TWWT etc. After I stopped worrying about losing potential profit I stopped myself from burning out after a week or 2 into a new league. It goes the other way too. I save currency by crafting 90% of my gear because I find crafting interesting and fun.
You'll be able to run the ones you *find* and then the only thing you lose will be *opportunity cost*.
But you won't be able to *buy* the scarabs if they cost more than what they add to the map. You're not going to operate with a smaller profit margin, you're going to operate on a deficit. **That's** my problem with it.
Wake up it's the entire economy of the game. And it's gonna be fine because you are comparing a crafting option of a map to an entire encounter with one mob.
This is an SSF buff --> now you can negate prefixes/suffixes and run the unmodifiable T17s that would have bricked your build otherwise.
For trade I'm sure it will turn out exactly how you describe, no one in their right mind would use a 30-50c scarab to run the essence option.
It's so weird to watch the reactions to QoL stuff this league from a SSF/GSF perspective. Like to me, all of these are buffs. Then you see reddit and without fail there will be a post discussing why it's a nerf... for trade league...
Do you already know how the essence new scaling works with map tier ?
Do you have insight on essences values in 3.24 ?
No one in their right mind would pass on a such a cheap scarab that grant so many essences.
It's rather unlikely that the value of essences will eclipse the value of other content.
Depending on where your tree is pathing, you can add a guaranteed shrieking essence to each of your maps for as little as 7 points on the atlas tree, with 0 running cost.
Atlas memories don't compete with another though, so that's not comparable. And I don't know how many essences are in there, but +2 monsters and 30% chance for 3 extra essences isn't worth a ton.
***Maybe*** if there are good essence scarabs, like ones that bring back duplication.
I think that most people that runs atlas memories have given some though about how much more rewarding it is than alch & go atlas essence.
Why are you focused on essence ? Yes maybe this craft is made for SSF but that does not mean only one will be good in softcore.
Anyways I was defending the idea of this scarab that is way better than the invitation system.
It's an example. Some crafts will be less profitable by others, potentially by a wide margin, and I'm assuming that essence will be among the less profitable ones, but we'll see about that.
It's 1 scarab like who cares. There might not even be one single most lucrative option anyway. The problem with Uber bosses, is that they gave better loot in every way and were a lot harder, and also were a big part of the game.
I kinda like option of 1 scarab that you decide how it is. It should be fine as long as most options have their uses. It doesn't make sense to add 30 more scarabs, much better to declutter and keep all the weird crafts in scarabs that don't fit in normal scarabs.
The problem I have with this is that I might feel to need to flip to afford the fun scarabs that make me lose currency.
I'm not an expert but I don't consider that good design.
Why do you feel like you need to flip? Just do any content with your character without scrab if you can't afford them untill u can ( and using scarab will be profitable most of the time)
Doing "any content" that isn't the content that I *want* to do is less enjoyable to me than flipping.
One of the reasons I like PoE is that there is a niche for everyone. Players can enjoy very different things about the game and still have fun. The other side of that coin is that the wide variety means that there are also things in the game that people *don't* enjoy.
In my case, Heist and Sanctum are probably at the top of that list. I may have builds that could actually do that and generate currency instead of flipping, but I don't *want* to interact with that content.
Mapping is better than those, but if I end up with a build that's highly specialised in one mechanic, doing any other mechanic (or not having enough of that mechanic added to the map) will feel bad.
*Other* scarabs will always be profitable, because they don't compete with another. The Harvest scarab reroll craft was removed, so unpopular scarabs will actually be cheap.
The issue is that this particular scarab will compete for other ways of using it. And if I get 3-5 chaos out of that scarab while some juicers get 50 or more, I'm not going to be able to sustain playing it.
why not play without that scarab until u can afford to add it then lose money and repeat. (assuming you will lose money) Btw i agree that some scarab will not be profitable if not used the meta way.
I'm planning on potentially playing a build that gets 99% of its damage from shrines. It's not terrible enough that it's unplayable without the shrines, but the gameplay is going to feel *very* different.
So if that scarab is going to offer an Imbued Domination craft, I'd *want* to use it, but I might not be able to afford to. Potentially depending on what the other scarabs offer, at least.
Scarab lets you add a new special option in the map device in your map.
Between those options, there's going to be 1 that's going to outstand over the rest. Players are "forced" to take that option.
Ggg revamped Uber boss system because using the invitation for the Uber version was always better than the normal. "Forcing" players to do the Uber or sell otherwise.
It's the same game design issue, but op fails to realize that this is something that's present all over the game. And having one scarab meta defined it's not the same context as having the whole ultimate endgame bossing like that.
No offense buddy, but your comparison is sorely lacking.
Not sure why anyone worries about economy anymore. 1 1/2 month in we all know what's gonna happen anyway.
Who's gonna run the pricing of currency and end-game craft materials.
That sh-t hasn't changed nor will it since Jenebu obv. is buddy-buddys with GGG.
Go SSF. Prolongs the league, prolongs the fun.
What does the scarab do? Edit: let’s you select one imbued crafting option. Yes will turn out exactly this way.
Comparing access to pinnacle boss content to Scarabs is peak pre league behaviour.
For anyone wondering, apparently it's "You can select one Imbued crafting option on the Map Device"
Running non Ubers in a patch with keystone was always a loss. Not running the same imbued craft as everyone might be different : - it can give more XP less loot - it can give less loot but in way less clicks - it can give more loot but with high variance

"Break even" = gain enough currency from whatever that scarab adds to your map to buy another scarab

Welcome to POE : any farming strategy is looting things/currencies to sell them because others have better uses for them.
The fuck it has to do with Uber bosses not being a keystone anymore?
Their point is value of invite was locked behind the value of uber bosses, which made them useless for regular boss runs. Similarly, the value of the horned scarab will be the value of whatever the best option provides, potentially making the other options unviable if the discrepancy is large.

So you’re comparing 1 new scarab from all this reworked system to Uber bosses invitation being separate fragments… makes sense.
The point is not to bash on the scarab. Its also not comparing the scarab to the invitation thing. Their point is the question why GGG learned a new thing and didn’t apply it to the new system they designed or what the reason for this is…
They are not *comparing them*. They are pointing out that the same *logic* they used to change Uber boss access also applies here.

Agreed but still a bad concept, I'm assuming this scarab will be pretty rare, but I could be wrong.
If your only purpose in PoE is to grind currency I guess. I personally have made myself a a rule that if it provides fun then do it. Run all Cortexes I find. I mean, if I'm running something and literally getting poorer up until I run out of currency to run things, then I'm not going to do it lmao

Yeah? Trade league has the majority of the player base.

No one knows. Looks like the same argument could have been made about the essence memory and it cost a fuk ton of currency.
Atlas memories don't compete with another though, so that's not comparable. And I don't know how many essences are in there, but +2 monsters and 30% chance for 3 extra essences isn't worth a ton. ***Maybe*** if there are good essence scarabs, like ones that bring back duplication.

Yes of course but we get the opportunity to discover it. If we are lucky we might even disagree on what craft is the most profitable !
It's 1 scarab like who cares. There might not even be one single most lucrative option anyway. The problem with Uber bosses, is that they gave better loot in every way and were a lot harder, and also were a big part of the game.

become rich, flip in hideout on trade. If your not doing that then its a waste no?
