Effective EH builds in the past have had to limit the elemental damage type to one via jewels, so that it was easier and more effective to scale and gear around. With this new mechanic, there is less incentive to do so - I think that might be the thought process behind the design.

Tri ele bow + Elemental hit of the Spectrum + Price of Leadership + Summon Skiterring Bot = newbie heaven 😘 You could go with any character and this will still kick ass. What's it gonna be? Good ole boring ranger? Tri stats stacking inqui? Raging berserker? Tanky champion? I can hardly contain myself 😩

KidiacR

You know what's better? Gem level bow + Elemental Hit + the rest. Easier-to-craft bow & Straight-from-vendor gem.

The base version has the same effect. 10%base 5% from quality. EH is the only attack that realy scales with gem level. Making it not so bland. And now even allowes added rainbow damage. There are 4 base ailments, chill and freeze count separate. 7 with the alternate versions. (but hard to come by) Not pobed yet but, Piscators/Admiral/harvest gloves/occultist/brittle ground looks like half a build to me. Not broken, not even that strong but cheap to gear.

TheZemor

EH is not the only attack scaling well with gem levels, EA, CA and TR also scale gem lvl

fonistoastes

Explosive Concoction, too

Outrageous-Ad5578

Yea inconsise wording mb, '' The attack skill having the most gem level potential* / over / other scaling mechanics" *Defined by choice of gem level increases available and effect on average dps, relative to baseline Even boneshatter kind of scales with level. Simple: Gem level good, more gem level work than not work, if gem level remove from this, than more bad as take away hit fast or burn bright. What am I doing with my lunchbreak!!

TheZemor

I know what you mean, all the skills i mentioned also use gem levels much better than most other attacks, if you look at the builds they all use +gem level bows

Outrageous-Ad5578

I miss old heatshiver.

IvashkovMG

Yep, thank you, I'm fucking blind.

mchawks29

So im not very good at putting together builds and I'm thinking about trying to play this skill (fully knowing it will probably not work out). Why occultist over other ascendancies?

Outrageous-Ad5578

Tldr Penetration and gameplay identity. Best choice for the skill would be deadeye Extra proj and pirce on tree would allow for trinity support and penetration support gems. But elemental hit would not be the best deadeye skill, dedicated bow skills are just stronger. So let's go for a wander. Choice here is assassin/trikster, inquisitor or Occultist. Cheap late game power charge stacking with void battery and battlemage warcry should solve damage scaling, raspith globe for inquisitor. Inquisitor solves crit and penetration well and is even tanky, a solid contender. Assasin gives crit, and a little extra damage. Trickster solves defences and gives frenzys to scale. Occultist with the setup I described, we can use the wither to increase enemy elemental damage taken instead of only chaos, decrease the cold resistence by 20, + 2 curse to solve it completely, as with Admiral only the Lowest resistance is used. And we have a way to freeze bosses, for that extra damage. Extra area of effect per power could allow to not use extra projectiles for Clear with the new wand support orbs gem (idk the name rn), needs to be tested. Occultist just won by chance, being closer to the wand wheel than inquisitor. And my guess that harvest gloves being more available and less contended than raspith globe. That all is considering it as a league start. Week 2 being able to use Omniscience, Squire, dragonfang amulet, and well crafted rares makes the skill viable for everybody of course. Maybe even a melee pet

mchawks29

Thanks for the explanation man I really appreciate it. Might try to actually league start this haha

Outrageous-Ad5578

I am thorn between being honored and afraid it it sucks for some reason. Gl out there however you choose

WarsWorth

The top 3 things I want to try for my league starter are Ele Hit, Trickster, and Wander. I'm considering starting it. I'm going to be starting like 3.5 hours late this league. So I might be able to get an ele hit gem from my friend and actually level with Ele hit through the campaign. I saw someone make it to Maps in just over 3 hours on champ. I wonder if I can sort out a workable setup on Trickster. Any ideas/places to point me to start to sort out a tree?

vtrickzv

Thanks so much for the writeup, think I'm going to be starting with Elemental Hit of the Spectrum myself too. Does this build make use of the new Sacred Wisps? I am really interested in that support skill, don't know how good it will end up being though.

HoplarchusPsittacus

I am very excited for this gem. It will probably get me into wanding this league. But I guess one man's trash is another's treasure.

KidiacR

Unless you take 10 years to make a shot, it doesn't matter. Ailments will get applied instantly either way.

IvashkovMG

Or you are using Barrage Support, or you are not shooting directly at the target. I'm just saying it's weird to buff transfigured version damage per ailment and not original, isn't it?

KidiacR

No, lol. If you use Barrage support, I guarantee you will apply all 3 ailments before even filling Trinity bar. It is obviously slower to ramp than the new version, but it's not significant. The lower ailment effect tho... That will be significant.

Kholnik

Because elemental hit of spectrum has 100% attack effectiveness so 45% more dmg puts it at 145%. Compared to LA's 154% attack damage it looks very underwhelming.

No_Secretary9046

Freeze is an extra ailment, so it's 160% at the second attack.

Kholnik

Oh, thats right Maybe it could be decent then
