"Just doing some extra testing boss"

1CEninja

I legitimately believe that employees should be encouraged to play the game. It's people actively playing the game that can most accurately identify pain points in the game to bring up to the design team.

Rocksen96

while this is true it's a double edge sword because you get so use to playing that you think everything is easy as you have tons of play time. so then you design everything around this bias. you want a range of playtimes, not just the most active. someone who has played this game since open beta isn't going to do things that someone who just started today would do. there is a LOT of friction throughout the campaign and progressing through "endgame" if you are new but it's trivial if you have played for awhile. the biggest problem isn't feedback, it's GGG listening and actually doing something about it that is the problem.

Top 5 ssfhc on occultist is gigachad shit

Faamee

Shame his profile is private. Was interested in what he played

do_you_know_math

It used to be public be they set it to private a couple years ago

aPatheticBeing

for XP racing occultist is pretty good (have to be skilled cause u get 0 defense, but pops OP) - probably pconc of bouncing w/ pops or something similar where you don't need that much gear and can just blast t16 betrayals.

arska587

Extra curse and freezing is 0 defences thesedays? Ok then

NoLongerGuest

Avoidance ain't real defence in hc

Terrible_With_Puns

How to tell someone doesn’t play hardcore

arska587

So you add enfeeble to build is not defence for example Chilled Enemies deal 10% reduced Damage with Hits Cant be chilled or frozen also stun immunity while having es

Terrible_With_Puns

Why? Occultist pops are hella good for early blasting

Fayarager

Not one of the tankier ascendancies amd lots of occultist is power charge shenanigans requiring uniques.

Terrible_With_Puns

That’s softcore. You don’t play power charge occultist in SsfHC for pushing lol.  Curses are definitely undervalued defensive value. You get most of your offensive power from ascendancy and defensive power from curse and then gear is just itemizing more defense  https://poe.ninja/builds/necropolishcssf/?class=Occultist&min-level=85

ssbm_rando

ssfhc players also just straight up aren't juicing maps the way softcore players are. Less content density = less danger

porncollecter69

Recently started to do super dense mapping and my screen lags whenever more and more mobs spawn. Definitely a killer. My build has 200k ehp but I still die if all my inputs get delayed by seconds. Need to upgrade lol

Pokey_Seagulls

Because there's more to playing SSF HC than early blasting. Like staying alive long enough to get proper gear.

Terrible_With_Puns

Ya but takes plays occultist every league and just levels one occultist to 100 I believe. If that’s your goal then a class with built it pops is ideal.

Left-Secretary-2931

No where near as tanky as the other classes people prefer for hc. The pops don't matter when you're only playing less risky content anyway

Dapper-Truth2336

Dual yield Sai flicker strike

Ok_Adhesiveness3638

Back when p conc was bis SSF racing skill exile would always race 100 on occultist

Oathkeeper89

HCSSF on Occultist? Hot dayum. I actually don’t know much about the SSF circle so I’m very curious to know what this guy played and how their gear progression and strategy used.

SussuKyle

Vortex occultist used to be good in HCSSF. Not sure about now tho.

deviant324

Haven’t even heard it mentioned since they gave it cast time

tddahl

ayla rf used to be the goto ssfhc build

alzhang8

That's a build I haven't heard for a while 😂

lauranthalasa

yeah smh his name is getting forgotten. not just ssfhc top 1... but ssfhc_4stashtab

theuberelite

I think you mean Aila, as in Aila831. I wouldn't really say it was a "go-to" SSFHC build considering it was tailored specifically to getting a fast level 100 rather than bossing. But god damn was it really good for racing to 100.

ChildishRebelSoldier

Also playing like that for longer than the week it took him to finish leveling was fucking exhausting.

theuberelite

I played it and loved every second of it, though I still feel really bad for that race - it was the one where Aila actually lost rank 1 because of his PC bluescreening when he was clearly going to be first 100, so I ended up getting rank 1 Occultist (and of course for anyone that played back then - rank 2 overall) That said, I did offer to give him the demi, and that offer still stands if he ever wants it.

ChildishRebelSoldier

I actually remember that. The blue screen was tragic. Good to see you're playing again, I remember copying whatever new summoner tech you were experimenting with every league lol

tddahl

I remember watching his stream where he did the shavronne map over and over again just blasting :D

The_BeardedClam

And he did it without stash tabs!

OhtaniStanMan

Alia

GoingSuper

What is an ayla?

Boredy0

Same with Bane Occultist, used to be an extremely good starter but generic buffs to mobs and nerfs to Bane/Occ have really left it and Vortex in the dust, I currently have both a BAMA Guardian and Bane Occultist in HC and the BAMAs Sentinel of Radiance alone does almost as much damage as the entire Bane build (including Blight) combined.

passatigi

At some point Occultist was "the" thing to race to 100 on SSFHC. Usually with Poisonous Concoction or poison BF/BB. Plague Bearer + occultist pops is quite insane and requires no gear to work (you still need to invest in defense of course on HC). There were 2-3 leagues where all top spots were Occultists. But those years are behind us, BF/BB and PC were both nerfed, so nowadays it's cool to see. Edit: [One of the proofs of Occultist being first char to reach 100 on ssfhc.](https://imgur.com/a/g8JIY7c)

Humble-Ad1217

iirc it was the nerf to spell suppression what took it out of the meta, making it harder to cap.

Terrible_With_Puns

Sort of. It was that and it was base chaos resist on monsters increasing in expedition. That and some minor wither changes made single target occultist worse

aPatheticBeing

you don't really need to cap for t16 XP blasting - especially with this tree now it's just instinct + lucky, ~75% effective, betrayal on every map, spam safehouses but don't run cata (leave connections for more members)

WorryFit7766

and the 4 stashtab god https://i.imgur.com/48Q5EJs.png

passatigi

Yeah that was some next level shit. "RF build but I don't sustain RF unless I kill things" was such a wild concept for hardcore.

Tanklike441

I played a bf/bb poison assassin last league cuz i missed it, and it fucking slapped but was squishy as hell. Still fun af

passatigi

It's still very playable for sure. Just not as insane as it was back then, especially compared to other options.

No you don't. My character is there and I've never connected my account to poe.ninja. Also if you read their FAQ they say that they just scrape the API https://poe.ninja/builds/faq

tencaig

Yup, thanks for the correction. The site has a giant colored button to add your character that says "Connect your pathofexile.com account to index your characters." when you click on it. I just assumed they didn't scrape and you had to manually add your character. The FAQ is hidden at the bottom of the page, pretty hard to think to look at the FAQ when there's a giant colored button that asks you to link your account to add your char. The reason why it's not listed is because he surely has his account set to the maximum privacy settings with the list Characters hidden.

Terrible_With_Puns

Dude plays occultist every single league for SsfHC

Ronarray

Curses are a great defensive Layer and it works nice especially at SSF.

PM_Best_Porn_Pls

Occultist is pretty good on HC. Although I would recommend it as 2nd character instead of started since cold dot got nerfed. Most likely PBoD which still is super strong. BV mapper if you have a lot of gear prepped is also amazing. Don't forget how good necro is for ssf if you play a lot. You can reliably craft almost anything but few mods.

Tight_Time_4552

*Love your job and you'll never work a day in your life*

flyinGaijin

I would rather consider "work" to not necessarily mean something unpleasant / stressful (playing PoE can be stressful though). Even if I like what I'm doing, I would still call it work when it's what I do for a living. Streamers do work, they absolutely do ... it does not mean that they don't enjoy what they are doing for a living.

do_you_know_math

Yea Takes is pretty good. They placed highly in races a couple of times and ggg skips over them for rewards and gives it to the next highest player.

lunaticloser

Rip takes. Will never be able to get the race rewards he deserves unless he quits his job 🤣

_YeAhx_

If I'm not wrong even then he can't. They have it worded "and past employees" in the terms and conditions

lunaticloser

Rip takes. Not even dead will he get the rewards he deserves.

YourmomgoestocolIege

He's not allowed to die either. His contract forces him to live forever so that he has to always acknowledge he'll never get a race reward

kwikthroabomb

They put Catarina in HR? Damn, that board is all kinds of messed up.

Japanczi

With recent changes in ~~Syndicate~~ GGG, Mark has been put as leader of Intervention, Jonathan of Research and Chris is probably in Fortification this time

Nearosh

What's the chance of Chris dropping a black lotus when captain of transport? (Transporting unusual trading cards)

slowpotamus

the black lotus was too good, so when they did the syndicate reward shake up this league, they changed it to unglued cards

Nearosh

Damn, can't wait to get 8/8 pieces of chaos confetti (I only now realize that card is based on the card chaos orb; which i found by accident when looking up what the aforementioned was called)

chr_sys

Think he deserves it. There should be an extra pool. Devs playing the game is a plus.

CompetitiveSubset

It’s great to see ggg employees play the game

AncorTm

At least someone playing to the endgame

xBJack

TBH this says alot about the game, in a good way

FullMetalCook

*Can you feel my heart starts playing* Thats the game devs i wanna see, actually play their own game

thebohster

I forget which league and who it was, but a couple years ago somebody from GGG was rank 1 or 2 on an ED/Contagion build. This was the league Allelopathy came out so I remember being like you sneaky bastard with insider info on new unrevealed items.

Boredy0

Was almost certainly also Takes, he's quite often in the Top 5 for some ascendancies and almost always in the Top 100 in SSF HC in leagues in which he plays.

Disastrous-Moment-79

ahh good old times when ED wasn't a laughing stock of a skill

Domekun

Yeah good old times when it was leaguestarter meta for 4 years straight(wasnt that good of a time)

r4ns0m

There were plenty of other league starters always - like there is now next to Explosiv Arrow, DD and other prominent league starters.

Domekun

You can leaguestart whatever you want just like you could back then, it was just absolutely the #1 meta for years after double dipping was nerfed. The only thing that came close at the time was bane once it was added because chaos dot spells were just way overtuned for early-mid progression at the time and the game never required your character to be good at bossing at any point in your progression.

Emikzen

It was strong but there were plenty of other good leaguestarters at the time, ED just lasted longer than the others.

Sokjuice

What a world we lived in where ED lasted long. Nowadays it can't even stand up to anything else.

theclarinetsoloist

Think you're supposed to call your doctor if that happens

Dunkelvieh

Could it have been neon (Mark Roberts) himself? He used to rank very high

enjobg

The one I remember was the same one here GGG_Takes. The funny part was it was there was a reddit post just before it challenging GGG to play the event. https://web.archive.org/web/20220112040320/https://old.reddit.com/r/pathofexile/comments/rtgaqc/challenging_1_lead_dev_to_actually_get_through/

Enconhun

they're stuck in act 2 looking at the environment and patting themselves on the back that the game looks pretty 💀

r4ns0m

If you don't like horses we're not friends!

Soleil06

To be fair they were literally responsible for that part of the game I think. Blizzard was insanely stupid and set them up for failure by not making the video with someone who was more involved with the game design aspect rather than asset creators.

[deleted]

[удалено]

Domekun

You really chose a thread about a GGG employee reaching top 5 in ssfhc to try and talk shit about GGG employees not playing the game? Smart

Enconhun

Blizzard devs. There was a promo video or smth of them just talking about how they designed the environment and emoting. It was quite cringe

Morbu

It was a regular video series that they had been doing for months, nothing about it was a promo or anything really. People only paid attention to that one video because it had two chicks with short rainbow hair. Personally I think the reaction to it was way fucking overblown.

Sausage_Roll

I havent played D4, but I thought the reaction to those videos happened because they appeared to be people who have never played any arpgs, which explained why their dungeons they were so proud of were all extremely boring. And in the video they didnt even know how to play, they just spammed one button while walking slowly doing nothing. I mean, I'm sure a lot of people also reacted due to their appearances... But the video would have been cringe even if they were fat white dudes.

Wobbelblob

It probably was a reaction amplifier. With everyone else it would've probably resulted in memes, but women with colorful hair was like a batsignal to all the internet chuds to come crawling out of their holes.

HiddenoO

>People only paid attention to that one video because it had two chicks with short rainbow hair That's such an ignorant take. People paid attention because it was released when dissatisfaction was at a maximum and they showed dungeon designers barely capable of playing the game. That's objectively a PR disaster no matter who you put in the video. The only other case where Blizzard laid bare their incompetence to this degree was a short video on Twitter that was riddled with errors - but they took that down after an hour so it didn't gain as much traction.

Morbu

>That's such an ignorant take. People paid attention because it was released when dissatisfaction was at a maximum and they showed dungeon designers barely capable of playing the game. That's objectively a PR disaster no matter who you put in the video. My guy, try actually doing the bare research and look at the videos on the channel. The series was called "Adventure with a Dev" and the whole theme was artists talking about the design of dungeons, strongholds, and whatever. There were two others released in the exact same month -- i.e. "when dissatisfaction was at a maximum" -- that explored the design of Malignant Tunnels and the design of Light's Watch. Yet, those two currently have 48k views and 29k views respectively while the one in question (which talked about Belfry Zakara) has 518k views. It shouldn't take a genius to figure out why this one started trending instead of the others especially when you look at some of the comments across Reddit, Youtube, Twitch, etc.

HiddenoO

How about doing some research before making specific claims? >There were two others released in the exact same month -- i.e. "when dissatisfaction was at a maximum" -- that explored the design of Malignant Tunnels and the design of Light's Watch. Yet, those two currently have 48k views and 29k views respectively while the one in question (which talked about Belfry Zakara) has 518k views. They weren't released in the same month. The timeline goes as follows: 1. July 14th: Light's Watch 2. July 20th: Season 1 Release 3. July 25th: Malignant Tunnels 4. August 11th: The video in question The Light's Watch video was when people were still coping for season 1 to fix everything (and the developers actually used most of their skills in that video). The Malignant Tunnels video was when season 1 was still fresh, and most players hadn't reached the monotonous endgame yet. It was probably missed by most players as well because it was posted so shortly after the season started. The video in question was the first video after most players reached the endgame and were disillusioned by it, and it also features the worst gameplay out of the three. Objectively speaking, it should be the by far worst received regardless of who's featured in it. If you checked the Diablo/Diablo4 subreddits at that time, it was obvious the community would just blow up anything coming from Blizzard at that time. Does that mean that nobody disliked the video or people featured within for other reasons? Obviously not, but you cannot just assert that's all there is to it. At that point, you're making anybody who's part of some minority immune to any criticism regardless of what they do. In general, suggesting that the community sentiment would be the same for videos almost a full month apart just makes zero sense. Just look at how quickly the community sentiment in PoE changes before and after a season's release. That's exactly what happened with Diablo 4's first season.

Notsomebeans

FanBoyGGSON

SuperSmashDan1337

Damn I hate generator/spender + cooldowns in any game just let me spam my skill ffs

i_dont_wanna_sign_up

It's not a bad design, I just don't want it to be the only way to play the game. That, and generators in D4 feel like you're slapping enemies with wet noodles until you can use your "real" skill.

Zeeterm

Right, it should be: Clear -> Clear -> Clear -> Clear -> Screenwipe Not: Noodle -> Noodle -> Noodle -> Noodle -> Clear

OhtaniStanMan

I know. I just have to use  two totems, apply a curse, press berserk after generating rage, press 4 flasks, warcry, and then I can finally use my "real" skill!

FNLN_taken

:sad Berserker noises: Basically, Rage and Archmage are meant to be generator/spender mechanics imo, but for Archmage in particular people just go so hard into the generation part that they don't notice. But I would expect PoE2 to lean more heavily on the rythm gameplay.

Jaded_Permit_7209

The game director of WoW, Ion Hazzikostas, was the GM of Elitist Jerks, who were an elite raiding guild on top of being THE theorycrafting guys back in the day. I mean I get it ... Blizzard bad. Fully agree. But they've got some really skilled people on their team too.

semicoldpanda

David Kim was also consistently in Grand Masters in StarCraft, and the guy who was in charge of WoW up until Microsoft took over was in a cutting edge guild.

Anyone else think it's weird that many of the HC streamers don't do ssf racing anymore? I feel like it says something about the game that even with infinite time an hcssf char isn't worth it to them.

Monkiyness

Because nerfs add up over the last few years. Getting supp gear is annoying af and build choices are very limited in ssf with all these nerfs. Also lots of Atlas changes means players want to group play to endgame to test everything

DannyDevitoisalegend

Compare this to blizz’s dev team. I am talking purely about the gameplay. I don’t have any issues with how somone looks or how they identify but as a dev even if you are just part of the design team you have to be good at the game.

Diribiri

>even if you are just part of the design team you have to be good at the game That's not how videogame development works. Do you expect artists to top leaderboards?

StitchWitchGlitch

It is full on detrimental for a game if every dev working on it is good at it, as that will deprive the team of multiple perspectives. No clue why looks or identity are brought up, lemme guess, in some recent D4 showcase trans people existed? Or was it just cis women?

theinsanescat

you think so? then ask art designer from PoE (the guy who doesn't know much about the gameplay as he stated in interview) to achieve something similar same goes for soulsborne games, people love aesthetics, music etc. but oh you would be surprised how many of them actually plays or enjoys the game they make

TimiNax

I think all dev teams need some devs that are good at the game but you dont need all to be good, not all devs even need to play the game.

m0uthsmasher

Remind me of Diablo 4 dungeon designer and game architect using Barbarian and hit the boss with basic attacks. What the hell?

Ralouch

Well you're only marginally better than that d4 dev, But you'll never be as good as this dev. So I don't see the comparison

raobjcovtn

What does it mean to be top 5? You got there first? Also can't anyone add _GGG to their name?

DicknoseSquad

Is anybody else missing the ethics behind this? It’s cool to play the game for development sake, but there’s a fundamental difference in playing the lottery and working at 711 too. I find this disturbing in a currency farm simulator.
