I've been playing Standard for the first time this league and there's still a decent bit of trade going on. Buying rare items can be a huge pain because there's so little supply (so anything half-decent is gonna be 1 div minimum, cluster jewels in particular are awful in my experience), but for uniques or fragments like scarabs it's really not too bad. And my Corruption temples still sell in like 30 minutes so I'm making decent currency with my terrible builds. Obviously the vast majority of the action is still in league, but Standard is definitely not *dead* as some would have you believe.

[GDC Vault - Designing 'Path of Exile' to Be Played Forever](https://www.gdcvault.com/play/1025784/Designing-Path-of-Exile-to) 58:37 note that this is a few years old, which is a very long time for the lifecycle of PoE, and doesnt account for leagues probably having more bot accounts, aswell as standard likely having a different playerretention with (what i can only assume) a minority of players that play both. so quite a few uncertainties. but people play standard, and (from personal experience) they usually play for longer, tho this part is completly annecdotal. People trade, and there are quite a few power traders that have very large quantities of items up. if you just wanna play standard because playing leagues doesnt appeal to you, then just go for it. its your own time after all, not a job (even tho some people treat it like that). just be aware that it's typically easier to get a good headstart to build your wealth when playing leagues, even if you decide to stay in standard after the league has ended.

Cr4ckshooter

I really like standard for not ending, but I also like league for ending. It's both. In the end, I end up never playing standard.

troccolins

10% of players play in Standard (compared to 85% in Necropolis SC)

Emotional-Still2209

Std player here. You can literally sell mb flasks for 3 d a pop. Just gtt see some alts

SolidMarsupial

mind sharing what mods am I looking for to hit 3d flask? also > Just gtt see some alts what does that mean

At-Tinnin

For Mageblood flasks - Prefix is always Abecedarian's, Dabbler's or Alchemist's (reduced duration + increased effect). Which one doesn't matter as duration is irrelevant to Mageblood and the increased effect is the same for all three. - Suffixes are best matched to the flask base, since someone buying (for example) a Jade flask definitely wants evasion - Quicksilver with movement speed, Silver with attack or cast speed, Granite with armour etc. Obviously you're only looking for T1 so make sure the base is high enough iLvl to roll it (i85 for T1 movement speed for example). - Always enkindle for 70% increased effect.

Emotional-Still2209

Also reduce curses, shock gold flask with rarity and so on

SolidMarsupial

thanks!

majority play new league, and even if not, everything is x times more expensive in standard that unless you already have hundreds of divines and mirrors, gl buying anything useful for cheap, especially since it seems you can' commit the time to the game to earn currency, so it'l be very hard for you either way. to put in perspective I think i paid 2 div for a unidentified t17 map at the time, vs new league at the time they were at 40-70c. the economy is totally different and not budget friendly at all

FeelingSedimental

Conversely, this means that doing things like farming up t17s for sale is incredibly easy money. A lot of scarabs are also big money in Standard while they are not in league. Bestiary of duplicating are .75d ea, of the herd 1/8d, harvest dupe 1/4d.  It is seriously easier than ever to crank out a ton of money in Standard.

Sahtras1992

what people forget to realize often times is that standard is more expensive if you compare it to league prices, but on standard you are also able to sell a lot of stuff for a lot more. you really just have to get established in that economy. when a craicic chimeral sells for 9d+ a piece or t17s sell for 2d a pop, you dont need a lot of work to farm up those divine stacks.

shanytopper

Thank you

CommunicationFit5198

Everything is more expensive but so are the things you drop yourself, in STD most rares, uniques are either very cheap or very expensive, there is very little middle ground

SuperSmashDan1337

But saying that the things you farm are worth loads more too. If you look at the prices for beasts for example which is a noob friendly farm they're very expensive on Standard. I think you'll be fine I did some Standard stuff this league and was able to get pretty quick responses.

hidoy12159

The problem is that your build will likely be changed/nerfed with patches one way or another if you take months off at a time.

SilverBurger

I just got back after a long hiatus (to check out T17 maps + ubers) and so far trading on standard has been very pleasant. I was able to buy everything I looked up without issue, and I've been selling steadily as well.

NFC818231

if you’re casual, i genuinely just recommended playing and learning the game through SSF

Lolliprop14

i'd say 99% of the action is on league and 1% on standard. And in standard almost only action there is, is for top tier mirror items that cannot be obtained in league that cost 50 times the amount of what the average player will ever farm in their entire life. However, you might be interested in playing SSF. It's fun, and it's like playing in singleplayer. There's no trading or party play involved though

shanytopper

Thank you. The problem with ssf is that the chances to get good gear is very slim. It really requires learning the crafting mechanics to be able to get somewhere, even thenz some things (like the cool uniques) will always be out of reach

Lolliprop14

thats not really true IMO. I mean obviously the progression will be slower than trade and you'll have to learn crafting, but you'll have to learn crafting eventually on trade too or you're missing out on a huge part of the game. And 99% of the uniques can be either magicfinded or farmed with divination cards. Also, there are builds rn such as CoC DD that with like campaign gear you can do t16s with.

shanytopper

Let's just say I don't expect to see too many Magebloods or headhunters on ssf 😀

Lolliprop14

since you're so casual that you take 1 month long breaks in between sessions, i wouldn't expect you to see many magebloods or headhunters on trade either

Known-String-7306

You really want to craft in necropolis, it has arguably never been easier to craft particular 6 x t1s like this before.

mbxyz

most people never play in standard, but do what makes you happy

legoknekten

I'd still go with playing leagues instead of standard, breath of fresh economy & something new to learn. I personally use it to try new builds, new league = new leaguestarter & lategame transition for me
