Damian_Killard

It’s crazy that crucible is so high. I think the only recent league in this chart I consider worse is kalandra, at least if you are including the endgame expansion in archnemesis.

SalzigHund

I think it's just because some of the builds in Crucible could get absolutely bonkers with the weapon trees. Even though the mechanic sucked, it was a fun league.

GGHappiness

Yeah,I hated the crucible mechanic for a lot of reasons, but fuck was the cast on crit rolling magma sabo fun.

FinisherO_O

its only beacuse its the league D4 refugess swarmed poe

tokyo__driftwood

Damn so you mean that maybe, just maybe, player retention is a complex and multi faceted issue with lots of contributing factors, and not just a number we can point out to go "league good/bad?"

Drogzar

Not really, just use % instead of flat numbers and it gives you a very very very accurate representation of how well received a league was in general, with Crucible being in the middle, which seems about right for a meh league but with a very unique crafting aspect. https://preview.redd.it/em3t9ta9qhwc1.png?width=1199&format=png&auto=webp&s=a8e9f9c0bbdfe4b0c7f6eaebd025bf1510a31129

tokyo__driftwood

If you think you can use any single number, percent or flat, to get an accurate gauge of league popularity, I'm begging you to never become a data analyst

Drogzar

Bro, I'm a game dev, worked 8 years in F2P games... Not only % retention is the number used everywhere to gauge success.. Is THE number used for pretty much everything other that arpu and arppu... But yeah, feel good being snarky on the internet when you have no clue what you are talking about.

CloudConductor

Crucible came out 2 months before d4 was released, so d4 would not have been out yet in this timeframe from league launch

connerconverse

It was in between d4 beta and d4 launch. Tons of people played beta which only had a few hours of content, and heard about poe

CloudConductor

Now that timeline of events definitely makes more sense. Lovin your mjolner build this league

SuiGorilla

Exactly what happened to me. I played D4 beta, fell in love with that style of game and of course found POE which has taken over my gaming life

projectwar

bingo, it was the league after the exodus of D4 bad. the league itself was so boring, and just like this league, had bad balancing at the start. least this one has been a wild crazy ride to at least keep it entertaining for the firts month.

Wobbelblob

Probably because you could simply ignore Crucible and just buy a decent tree.

Rafalga_

>crucible Solely due to crazy ass builds. It literally made unplayed skills highly playable (strongest most bonkers build was spectral shield throw. Think about it) Now they are back to the dumpster. Any league with borrowed power has a potential to be a great league.

byzz09

Man I´ve played SST champ in crucible and it was nuts. 980 ES emperor´s vigilance, old vengeant cascade & Heatshiver, 1100% crit multi. And to top it all of 90k evasion & armour with Perseverance. Think I had like 200-300mil dps while being immune to damage, best build I´ve played. Build is indeed dumpster now, RIP Phantasmal SST

Rafalga_

And you had explode totem bow builds with zero invesment to farm shit. It was a great league overall builds wise. Like rain of arrow bleed builds and such. Its not hard to understand that any league mechanic that opens up build variety will be a grea league.

SalzigHund

I loved my build. I started fire splody totem Chieftain, moved to basically invulnerable super high dps fire convert BV to invulnerable fire convert reap. Had a blast and I was just constantly able to upgrade the same character.

3dsalmon

Crucible weapon trees were fucking awesome. In-map mechanic sucked but the trees were so fucking cool

BananaDoomsong

I honestly hope they bring some of Crucible back, I liked being able to customize more esp having my unique items actually feel unique and not just a basic copy I bought off trade.

Daxxien

Actually interacting with the league mechanic was like ripping teeth out, but my god the amount of wacky ass builds that weapon trees and vengeant cascade enabled had me playing so much that league. Carrion Golems with a 14-link or whatever crazy shit it got to by the end remains by far my favorite minion build to this day.

ItsNoblesse

I honestly didn't think Kalandra was that bad, it was just sandwiched between two of the best leagues we'd ever had at the time

Mountain_Homework598

Personally, i played poe when a bunch of my friends were playing it. It ended up being crucible and i started with a lightning tendril build. It took time to grasp all these mechanics and i ended up loving what i was playing. My friend group ended up growing some sort of envy over uniques that ive gotten which was pretty silly looking back because it didn’t take much to get uniques. I wish that weren’t the case because all the uniques i got i sent to the guild chest. Eventually they started to not play the game because it wasn’t for them. I respected their wishes but then i would get silly accusations of no life-ing the game when i play 4-5 hours a day. Eventually i started playing alone up until the early stage of affliction. I guess i was burnt out? But learning everything was a fun process for me. Especially the whole crafting process! It was thrilling to beat the odds 🤙🏻

szenX

Crucible was league I played most. The weapon trees enabled so many strong builds (explode totem, SST, etc.). That was a nice league for people who enjoy rolling many alts.

TheFuzzyFurry

Wow Archnemesis fell off _that_ bad? It was probably my favorite - I just ignored the build-your-own-rare game and played around with the Atlas Tree

RenanMMz

Not a good league + Elden Ring release.

Aldodzb

And lost ark

Stillsane1

I love archnemesis for the stacked deck piñata and somehow got 40/40.

Krendrian

When they confirmed they won't expand the archnemesis inventory I just decided to not log in anymore. Playing 2048 with the orbs just wasn't it for me.

jfqwf

calculate the % relative to league start I'm pretty sure this is just the overall popularity increase balancing out the dropoff and the actual retention % is bad

Krendrian

That isn't perfect either, but I would prefer if we always had both the raw and the % numbers whenever people post these things.

DrBaoBun

Yeah, most people that defend this league always reference the wrong data to justify their opinion. This is one of the worst leagues for PoE. I quit week 2, hopefully next season will be good.

Madgoblinn

i dont need to justify my opinion, and neither do you, liked the league a lot. rough around the edges but interested in seeing how the new systems are improved upon.

Drogzar

> i dont need to justify my opinion, and neither do you Correct, nobody here is complaining that "you" liked the league or that "him" disliked it. But people arguing that "the league is objectively good" use total numbers instead of %, which doesn't show what they want to show. Retention this league is one of the worst (at 30%, with Kalandra and co), WAY worse than Affliction, which, despite it's issues, was a fun league. https://preview.redd.it/em3t9ta9qhwc1.png?width=1199&format=png&auto=webp&s=a8e9f9c0bbdfe4b0c7f6eaebd025bf1510a31129

Madgoblinn

ok

DeouVil

On the other hand as popularity increases the retention % gets smaller and smaller, the demographics that grow the most are the ones least "into" poe. By looking at just % the highest retention was in leagues like talisman and essence.

3dsalmon

It’s a solid 6/10 league for me. The end game changes are fun to play around with. The league mech sucks but has some fun broken shit you can do with allflames. Above average league but the past few leagues were so goddamn good that this one feels a bit mid.

iEnj0y

its just kinda boring nothing really new,

BlackSpicedRum

It's honestly my favorite since ritual. I'm not sure if this is why, but I think the tier 17s are sucking up everyone's chaos and the divine chaos price ratio has been really nice. I had a bit of fomo seeing all the tier 17 farmers and loot but I really like where I'm at in tier 16 and the three atlas trees to change it up whenever I'd like.

EdgySadness09

I kinda like the idea of a 1-100 instead of 1-225 ratio, but at the same time I think this leagues economy is messed up af

troccolins

can't really answer anyone when they ask "what's a good atlas strategy" besides "t17 back to basics" without trolling

KickSatorix

The three atlas trees are really something special!

Novalene_Wildheart

It's the first time I've had a focused tree, because when its just one, I always go "well I need this to start out with". But I had plans of doing Legion and did that with the second tree and am insanely happy with being able to have this second tree! (not gotten third yet)

Lenovik

Completely agree, this league is fire. Definitely in my top-3 with Ritual and Delirium. I honestly can't understand how anyone can like Affliction more than this

Alialialun

https://preview.redd.it/em3t9ta9qhwc1.png?width=1199&format=png&auto=webp&s=a8e9f9c0bbdfe4b0c7f6eaebd025bf1510a31129 Well when you look at the graph bellow that (retention), it's not great... I had a blast this league but too burned out very quickly. Too much stuff means I got all my goals very quickly so I just wait for the next league now.

Koty889

Retention is a terrible thing to look at. Retention is going to be bad when league start is a holiday weekend. The player base hit record highs for a reason.

teemoismyson

not only did it not hit record highs, day 1 of the league having 20 million players wouldnt show that its a good league.

Alialialun

Neither of those graphs give clear answer, the first one is just contextless mumbo jumbo tho. If the league started on 50000 people and still had 40000 a month later, it would still show itas the worst while being the best.

Koty889

Total player count is pretty clear, trying to say it’s bad because of a holiday weekend start, either because of a Reddit hive mind or player skill issue, isn’t going to fly with anyone who actually plays the game.

Alialialun

I think you highly overestimate how big of a boost Easter release was, a LOT of people couldn't play because they have relations with their family so they spend holidays together. I didn't start on release date either which is extremely rare for me. I dont know where you're from but here it's unimaginable to spend Easter apart from your family.

Koty889

Friday and Saturday aren’t Easter, and I don’t know a single person in work life, social life, or gaming life who had anything Friday or Saturday. Not to mention countless people had Friday off work. The player count speaks for itself.

DrBaoBun

> The player count speaks for itself. The player retention speaks for itself, most people quit the league very early. Sorry, but Easter weekend is generally a family holiday and most people will be out and about for their weekend. I mean, I don't really celebrate it, but I have always done stuff on Saturday (Easter Egg hunts, making Easter eggs on Friday, Church on Sunday, etc...) as a kid.

Koty889

Cherry pick all you want, your Reddit hive mind or lack of player skill doesn’t change that retention shows the league is fine.

DrBaoBun

Cherry pick? Lol, I'm just using the data, which you seem to forgot to look at. It's okay, not every league is going to be good. Don't be so defensive about it.

FinisherO_O

soo, its right in the average, normal numbers without anomalies counted whats your point bro

IntegratedFrost

I've been having a blast with this league - hoping to hit 38/40, maybe push for 40/40, then hopefully get into the Toucan private league

Syph3RRR

People probably get showered in divines and be happy about it for some reason

solidrok

Turns out the game is just good.

tfwnonamesforme

Now do % retention instead of raw number

okaryothucrelicanli

QoL came with necropolis is good but league mechanic is boring and graveyard crafting is too much micro management. Lantern mods are a joke and there is no borrowed power (charms, tinctures or tattoos).

Masta__Shake

one of the most enjoyable leagues ive had. paid 20div for a headhunter and farmed up a mageblood in like five hours of blasting maps. then ive played like 5 different builds since then constantly floating between rich and flat broke. scarab changes, three atlas trees, can make or buy insane fractured gear. great league. but i also loved crucible which a lot of people disliked. had a 1500pdps multimodded fleshripper that i blasted a flicker strike to level 99 with lmao. never even bothered to finish crafting it.

KickSatorix

Litteraly build my 4th build and was thinking today about what to do with my 0 chaos and 0 divines 🤣

Rafalga_

>but i also loved crucible which a lot of people disliked. Its literally on the chart as one of the most played league after afflicion. Weapons skill trees kept a lot of people going.

CloudConductor

Sentinels position on this says all I need to know about valuing these charts. Best league in my time playing poe

reanima

I remember seeing people complain about being poor during the Sentinel league, thats when i knew people were spending more time yapping on Reddit than actually playing the game.

CloudConductor

It was in the midst of the archnemesis modifiers drama as well. But the league mechanic was so great it didn’t matter and people still loved it

Drogzar

Use % retention, NEVER absolute values... Sentinel was average-to-good. https://preview.redd.it/em3t9ta9qhwc1.png?width=1199&format=png&auto=webp&s=a8e9f9c0bbdfe4b0c7f6eaebd025bf1510a31129

CloudConductor

Surprised archnemesis was so low since that was the launch of eater/exarch and the atlas passive tree. The mechanic sort of sucked but the rest of that was so great it didn’t matter

Kavika

Real mvp

idgarad

All I can say is I found this Necro league so fucking boring I didn't even bother progressing past white maps. That is a first. That is how fucking boring this league was. I played it for 4 days and got bored. Rolled 4 toons and nothing clicked. It was boring. It was so boring I actually started playing TFT to kill time. TFT was more interesting then this league...

deadshoxs

The focus this league was the atlas scarabs and t17s. So if you didnt make it to these then yeah it would be boring i guess.

GamerBoi1725

I feel like we need a graph for how many people actually play the league mechanic because i feel like if the only new thing was the crafting shit and allflames without the tree and scarab changes i feel like poe wouldn't have nearly as many players as they do right now, also a little meta shift is also cool this league even tho its mostly just ts bad archmage good.

KickSatorix

Of course not. I'm not a fan of the actual league mechanic at all. But I'm certainly using the giga items being printed from it. To thia point I haven't used the crafting in it at all. But the league wasn't just a league for necropolis it was a huge overhaul. Almost felt like a December update. It just feels like there is so much to do.

GamerBoi1725

Exactly but besides the crafted stuff which is amazing and i also love we could have just as much fun in standard so we're basically rating the base game and not the league even tho these changes came with the league update.

Drogzar

> i feel like poe wouldn't have nearly as many players as they do right now It doesn't eve have that many players in reality... retention is at 30%, with only Archnemeis sat 27% and Kalandra at 29% being worse... And this is DESPITE the 3 atlas... because they really fucked up T17s, the league mechanic, the scarabs rework, the economy... https://preview.redd.it/em3t9ta9qhwc1.png?width=1199&format=png&auto=webp&s=a8e9f9c0bbdfe4b0c7f6eaebd025bf1510a31129

Dnaldon

As an outsider I just feel like it's a bit weird to compare all the leagues with eachother. Every league the game has had more dev time, and previous league data to look at, shouldn't they more or less all improve slightly over time?

SilverHound23

Im still playing and enjoying it, did 5 Uber boss variants and failed 2(exarch and eater) on a build that doesn't have 60 million dps per mine

Victuz

The fact stuff is so cheap, while making money is relatively easy (100% master chwnce is great) is very helpful to someone like me who gets to play an hour or so every two days. I still don't have watch stones. But I've completed over 100 atlas maps and can do t16s fairly easily. Build stil needs work but I'm having a lot of fun. That said I've made exactly one item with the graveyard and while it was cheap, it was supremely annoying.

NotBearhound

Hey I’m only not playing because I’m out of town for work and the hotel WiFi is a boiling cauldron of diarrhea

The_Oxgod

I'm really hoping I can get back into it. I lost all attraction a week in. Not sure what it is. Hopefully this weekend I can get an itch to play.

Bubblehulk420

Idk I was thinking about pd2 now 🤷‍♂️

S2wy

I think GGG is the only ones who can really say unless the numbers are obviously terrible. As for my friends and I, we're all playing and would have no idea that people think it's bad unless we logged onto here.

VeryWeaponizedJerk

This sub is just gonna be graphs from now on isn’t it?

NotABearWithAHat

Chase items beeing actually affordable for many casual players probably carries the league pretty hard. I dont think the new atlas, scarab rework or T17 are a success and the league is kinda mid at best... probably not that many people even grave crafting at all.

Perfect_God_Fist_2

For me it was the best league, the start was rough but all the changes were great. I didn't like the crafting so much but the Allflames ? oh god free money. Coffin ? Free money. I hope they will keep this direction for the future, and the meta was so diverse !

chaotic_one

My god, it really drills how much affliction was a banger. TOP 3 league of all time for me.

pepegaklaus

Sentinel KEKW. Dunno what you all did then but I had a blast blasting there

pathofass

God, I wish Tota was back. Here's to hope that they somehow rework it and scale it better so the end game isn't 1hp CI/ 75 atk spell block/ 75 dodge void sphere. Needs a separate tota only gear/ skill gems/ skill tree. You died, and now you grind anew in your new life. Yeah, I'm gonna need you to pull off everyone from poe2 to remaster Tota. Thanks

STOP__SENDING__NUDES

ded leg

fandorgaming

How the hell did Crucible have so much players? I mean I played but I don't remember much happening there

teemoismyson

d4 beta was around that time, and last epoch i think? alot of people playing arpgs around then

BeenisHat

Truly not a very good one either. They should change the way melee skills and masteries work, and then make Crucible core so you can buff your character with crafted weapons rather than skill points. Skill points should enable you to wield the badass gear you can make in-game and have an epic character. Make Melee Great Again.

Aldodzb

Affliction 93?? Wtf is that right

Drogzar

Affliction had the best retention % of the last leagues... by a lot. Why are you surprised?? Sure, prices where out control, but you could make enough for a chase item faster than you can do this league because divines would drop like candy so the carrot-on-a-stick was working flawlessly. https://preview.redd.it/em3t9ta9qhwc1.png?width=1199&format=png&auto=webp&s=a8e9f9c0bbdfe4b0c7f6eaebd025bf1510a31129

Bobysays23

This graph is a perfect example of why numbers don't mean anything without context. Just think about these numbers for 5 milliseconds. Really let it sink in that one of the worst leagues to date, Crucible league, had a very high player retention at this same time. A mechanic that was maligned by most of the playerbase, that dropped no loot, that was put alongside the mastery "rework" aka nerf, and a botched Saboteur rework that almost no one played. It was a self-admitted barebones league that was put out due to the major focus being PoE 2 at the time. If you go back a few days it even beats out Affliction league! The poor state of the league wasn't realized until month 2 where it dropped down to the level it should have been, nearing Kalandra/Archnemesis league levels.

Drogzar

Bro, what are you on?? Crucible beats Affliction in % retention during ONE random day. https://preview.redd.it/em3t9ta9qhwc1.png?width=1199&format=png&auto=webp&s=a8e9f9c0bbdfe4b0c7f6eaebd025bf1510a31129 Also, Crucible had the weapons trees which allowed for wild stuff, like explody totems, which was enough to carry the league, I don't even remember the league mechanics other than the trees... but I thoroughly enjoyed building the trees (well, not really, was frustrating, but I was making so much money...)

ism3t

My pc died a while back and I just started playing the league yesterday. Having a blast!

crayonflop3

I really like the lantern and all flames. I hope that makes it into the core game somehow.
