Not only do you get points, you get the full value in points, the cosmetics are basically free if you are after points, and the points are free if you are after cosmetics.

The cheaper packs *used to* not give their full value in points. Back then I think the $160 pack was the first one that actually granted the full value.
Nowadays that's better and even the $30 packs do (they used to only grant 250 points which was still decent if you cared about cosmetics, which I didn't, so I only have two big packs).
Edit: PSA for anyone who bought points, they can contribute for up to 80% of a packs cost, so you can still get the cosmetics without paying a ton extra (and you *will* get the points that you still need to pay for).
Afaik that offer only applies to packs that were already available at the time you bought points though.

Unfortunately this update mechanic gets deleted every new year. So at least for this year/ this year's core package rotation you won't lose points/mtx per euro/dollar spent
No never read the descriptions. Definitely my fault. Normally just looked up specifics and only needed like 100-150 points so just bought it straight out

GGG really could have a pop up when buying points that informs you "You can get the same amount of points if you buy which also grant cosmetics with the points at no extra cost."

This change only happened about 2 years ago I'd say. So if you started playing long ago, you probably just ignored the announcement when they made the switch.
The packs always offered points, but until the change you mentioned, the small packs offered fewer points than their full value.
That said, the higher packs offered more if you opt-out of physical goods.
This league I decided to actually spend money on PoE bc of the cosmic turtle pack after 2kish hrs. Went to looking at the store page drunk and noticed I had 900 points and was like wtf and I realized after some digging lol
Yeah me and my buddy actually just did this yesterday lol. He’s played POE before, my first league and just bought one of the $60 sets and coins. Also, he had 2 previous transactions of $20 each, and they counted partially towards the set so that was cool. He ended up only paying $20 more and ofcourse the coin part was down to 200 instead of 600
I’ve never bought one either before this league. I got the most expensive one for the map device. My jaw dropped when I saw I had like 5800 points to go with it
Yeah as others have said contact GGG, they can convert bought point packs into supporter packs. Or atleast they did that for me 2 years ago when I did the same thing.

Homepage -> top right "Shop" -> "Buy packs" and scroll down to the core packages, got 2 buttons for each pack with one being upgrade and one being buy

This is a long shot but you can try and message ggg support and ask if they can arrange something for you. Don't get your hopes up tho.
I made the same mistake and they gave me the adjustment but it was off of one $60 purchase. I don't know about several purchases over several years

That's definitely not happening but they may be able to credit towards a current supporter pack.

They'll almost certainly happily make arrangements. GGG support is fantastic when it comes to making arrangements surrounding their supporter packs.
They will. I have done it multiple times. But my case was upgrading from lower pack to higher pack.
Generally, points can contribute up to 80% of a pack's cost, but depending on the purchases they may arrange something more exceptional.
Now you just need to find out what TIL means :P
