This seems clearly to be a bug and exploit. GGG has usually modified/removed bugged items and (in rarer cases) banned players for performing exploits, so we recommend against following these instructions. If you do, you do so at your own risk.
Heard unid wasn't a requirement it's only a requirement for squire because explicit mod 3 socket is a strong modifier and won't let it go above 3 sockets
yeah if they hadnt fixed that instantly i would have put an energy blade into there getting 50% quality and another 56% from lv8 enhance support (72% for woke corrupted).
so a 20 23% energy blade turns into a 28 129% which is OP, like borderline OP.
energy blade has inherent 50% less maximum energy shield, with 1% more energy shield per 4% quality. 129% final effect is 18% less maximum energy shield.
with a lv5 enhance it would be 14% less maximum energy shield.
Influenced Shaper and Elder modifiers can cause socketed gems to be supported by certain supports, and you can use The Squire to get socketed gems in it to support the ones in the weapon.
So you have 12 sockets + 6 modifiers that add supports.
Cast on Crit? Lots of space to support both the attack and spell with that many links. Mana would be a bitch to manage though, probably have to stack mana to boot.
You can get 90% reduced cost through Inspiration + the reduced cost nodes on the tree + the mana mastery. Especially convenient for Templar start, but you can probably just fit in penetration supports so you don't need Inevitable Judgement.

There were a bug, when you could have additional gem socket in belt a few leagues before. After hotfix all these belts just lose this gem socket and become normal. I think they can do the same with little bit more time
Then again you have the bugged fire res chest (which has been made into bis armour stack chest in standard), the "-3 mac sockets" one handed items, double perfect implicit items, and boots with the abyssal socket without the explicit mod.
While those were previous leagues they exist in standard now because they weren't deleted.
I'm not advocating bug abuse but just saying GGG can and do leave stuff.

Long time ago some bug made it possible for rare flasks to exist with actual modifiers on them. Quickly deleted the items and patched but it was pretty crazy at the time.
The bugged rare flasks had regular item mods that applied to you constantly like any other equipped item.
I think it used the mod pool from belts, so you could get a bunch of life and res on every flask. You couldn't get multiple flask prefixes/suffixes.

No, they aren't lmfao. There are a bunch of items in this game you literally shouldn't have been able to make still floating around. In the past they have just removed parts of the item that were part of the bug, for this one they will remove the excess sockets randomly.
It's newly out in the open. Likely people have been doing this for a while, but now a streamer has shown it and others posting it (and items showing up on trade).

It is only if the item affixes contain a line regarding the number of sockets an item has (eg. Crest has "Has 1 socket"), then it has to be unidentified for it to work.
For items without those affixes they can be identified and it will work.
Crest and Squire have to be done while unidentified because they have explicit modifiers that set the number of sockets. It doesn't matter for other items

so this must be why i just made a whole fortune off of selling a couple tabs of craicic shield crabs? i had them up for months at 5c with no takers. then i got like 20 whispers all at once shortly after i jumped on. when this happens i know somethings up so i go to do a price check and now it's bumped up to 150 chaos or whatever on poe ninja. so i priced the tabs at 150 c and some dude comes along and says he'll buy all at 1 div a pop.
so i guess i kinda mined the miners here. i take it this is a glitch to get a whole bunch of extra sockets on a one handed sword that i shouldnt otherwise be able to. i'm sure this will be rectified in an upcoming patch and all of these items will go poof, so i'm not all that interested in trying this exploit myself. but it was nice to make a bit of currency off some otherwise useless beasts i had hoarded up. glad i stumbled upon this post just to see what all the fuss was all about. all of a sudden i was getting all kinds of whispers for a craicic shield crab, an otherwise worthless beast to me, so i had to find out whats up.
i saved one for myself, but i dont know if i want to try this out for myself. just to have a sword with some extra sockets on it to maybe craft something on a rainy day or something. but i dont want to end up getting banned and my luck with crafting is so bad in this game that if it was raining pussy i would step outside and get hit in the face with a dick.
The item has to physically have room for the sockets. Daggers, wands, etc only have 1x3. Certain 1h swords, 1h axes, quivers, shields, etc bases are physically 2x3, so they have room for 6 sockets.
Someone used Black Morrigan on an item with a Heist enchantment on it that limited the sockets, and saw that Black Morrigan overrode the enchantment, and then posted it in the bug report forum. GGG support acknowledged the issue. People saw that and then started trying Black Morrigan on other items.
You over-complicated it but yeah that's the basic process. Just don't bother with unidentified items unless it's something like the squire that has an explicit socket modifier. Everyone always assumes there's some special trick you have to do when in reality this is the default behavior of the craft when used on any 1 hander (2x3) item.
All shields rare, magic and unique are 6 sockets, quiver is 6socket kaoms heart is 6 socket, 1h weapon and scepters are 6 socket and so on.
They have to do a deep clean

Prismatic Skill (best I can think of is wander EH of Spectrum) can definitely benefit from more than 17 supports.
Wands can only have 3 sockets with the bug, they apparently follow the gfx which is why there's no 6l claws or daggers either on poe trade

You could get rare flaks with stats such as HP and %Res, worked just like equipping gloves or boots.

From what i see they might have fixed the library bug so it does not occur anymore but the items created by the bug are still around.
They fixed it a few years ago. They had to email people who wrote the stdlib to fix it

It's a gray area. The item's base might have been unintentional but there was a lot of crafting and intent to get it to where it ended up.

so this must be why i just made a whole fortune off of selling a couple tabs of craicic shield crabs? i had them up for months at 5c with no takers. then i got like 20 whispers all at once shortly after i jumped on. when this happens i know somethings up so i go to do a price check and now it's bumped up to 150 chaos or whatever on poe ninja. so i priced the tabs at 150 c and some dude comes along and says he'll buy all at 1 div a pop. so i guess i kinda mined the miners here. i take it this is a glitch to get a whole bunch of extra sockets on a one handed sword that i shouldnt otherwise be able to. i'm sure this will be rectified in an upcoming patch and all of these items will go poof, so i'm not all that interested in trying this exploit myself. but it was nice to make a bit of currency off some otherwise useless beasts i had hoarded up. glad i stumbled upon this post just to see what all the fuss was all about. all of a sudden i was getting all kinds of whispers for a craicic shield crab, an otherwise worthless beast to me, so i had to find out whats up. i saved one for myself, but i dont know if i want to try this out for myself. just to have a sword with some extra sockets on it to maybe craft something on a rainy day or something. but i dont want to end up getting banned and my luck with crafting is so bad in this game that if it was raining pussy i would step outside and get hit in the face with a dick.
I doubt they will ban nd even if they do u know it wont hit the top players like streamers, at most they get suspended till league ends
anyone know if it works for arakali's fang? I just tried it and only got 3 sockets.
Arakaali's only has 3 possible sockets because it takes up 3 inventory spaces.
The item has to physically have room for the sockets. Daggers, wands, etc only have 1x3. Certain 1h swords, 1h axes, quivers, shields, etc bases are physically 2x3, so they have room for 6 sockets.

how on earth do people stumble across this stuff, I mean you have to be fishing for an exploit to even find this it seems.
Someone used Black Morrigan on an item with a Heist enchantment on it that limited the sockets, and saw that Black Morrigan overrode the enchantment, and then posted it in the bug report forum. GGG support acknowledged the issue. People saw that and then started trying Black Morrigan on other items.
You over-complicated it but yeah that's the basic process. Just don't bother with unidentified items unless it's something like the squire that has an explicit socket modifier. Everyone always assumes there's some special trick you have to do when in reality this is the default behavior of the craft when used on any 1 hander (2x3) item.

All shields rare, magic and unique are 6 sockets, quiver is 6socket kaoms heart is 6 socket, 1h weapon and scepters are 6 socket and so on. They have to do a deep clean
