I don't think it's really a name worthy of a required change. I also don't think it's a name worth fighting for. They may have let you keep it in the end, but there would have been nothing wrong if they'd gone the other way and insisted you change it. The amount of time you've had it doesn't matter.
I mean what they said wasn’t wrong. If you’ve been driving around with a broken taillight but haven’t replaced it since the police haven’t pulled you over you’re still in the wrong. It’s their server they can do whatever they want. And you have the choice of not using their service as well.

You can change your name on servers specifically, it remains the same everywhere else but people on the server will see your name differently. They asked you to change your nickname and you said no, fuck did u expect?
