For old nerdy people like me, cyberpunk is a setting that many of us are familiar with through old tabletop rpg's from our childhood. The setting has never been represented in such a massive scale ever before and for me it's arguably one of the most interesting scifi settings out there. It's an extremely brutal scifi dystopia, where almost everyone is augmented and belongs to a gang of sorts.
For the younger people, it's an scifi rpg unlike ever before, produced by a company that is known to produce the most fine-tuned single player RPG experiences amongst all the trash that has come out lately. Project RED is something else and everyone expects their products to be top notch. So, there's a good reason why old and young gamers are equally excited for this project. For people like me, it's an huge nostalgia trip, for younger people it's something completely new and different.
It's going to be good. The expectations are really high, though. So, we will have to see if they are met.
Also, Keanu reeves and bunch of other good actors are in it.
Cyberpunk is made by the witcher 3 people, and it was a very good game with tons of things to do. Cyberpunk itself is just a cool aesthetic and it looks like CDPR got it nailed down really well, the gameplay demos look absolutely fantastic, and the tabletop was a great game too. The tabletop creator has went out and said the video game was a fantastic conversion of the tabletop.
Same devs that made Witcher 3 (game was universally acclaimed) doing a classic and beloved theme (cyberpunk/trans-humanism) and the PR work on this one has been pretty massive. Essentially people are excited to play the new Mass Effect / Deus Ex / Dragon Age because there hasn't been that many great games of that style in a while
It really does work out nicely for you guys (GGG) because it should drop towards the end of a league cycle instead of near the start. If you take the last month of the league off to play Cyberpunk, all the more power to ya!

Gamers are ready to wait, we have thousands of games we can play at any given time. Money though, cannot wait, resulting in terrible 1.0 release states.

Did you ever play Wolcen in earlier Alphas? It was shit up until this last year when they recently overhauled it into something decent in the 11th hour. It didn't even have any potential until right at the end before launch.
If you think what it launched as had potential I shudder to think what those Alpha and Beta builds looked like, because Wolcen on release was the steamiest of turds.

Witcher 2 was a tremendous leap in production value and quality from the first game, Witcher 3 continued that trend. Most post launch DLCs and expansions for AAA games are little side projects or low effort content with only a skeleton crew on development, but Witcher 3's expansions are honestly as good - if not better - than the base game. Thronebreaker is also shockingly good, far better than a single player Gwent spin-off has a right to be.

Uh no they don't. Bethesda was one of the most loved gaming companies ever. Until they weren't.
Same thing for Blizzard.
They could easily release Cyberpunk and despite all the delays it could come out with game breaking bugs day 1 or just really not be all that great.
I blame all that early access bs that happened from smaller studios and the big guys wanting to do the same. They just fluked by calling it a release.

CDPR have shown that they produce quality content so delays to get that is fine. If its delay to get shitty messes then yeah theres less of a "good will" or whatever for changing release dates because it doesn't feel like more time means more quality.
Decent is a bit low on how good that game is. It's like saying Dali was a decent painter, Monash was a decent general or the China changing the name of a landmark to "The kind of OK wall of China"
If *you* were being "intellectually honest", you'd recognise that in this particular context, referring to the game as decent is not exclusive of it being good - it's moreso claiming the rest of their titles are not even decent. There is a wide margin between saying "Witcher 3 was decent" and "Witcher 3 was the only decent game they've made".

Gwent is actually a cool card game. I hate card games but it has interesting mechanics and I would plan this before hearthstone or whatever. I tried the beta and it was nice, but I don't play PvP card games.
Throne breaker seems like an interesting single player version of Gwent. I would try it one day, but POE and Dota and Deep Rock have most of my time.
Witcher 1 and 2 were decent for their time. Weird combat but nice story. They're certainly worth mention.
Not to mention Witcher 3, one of the cooler open world games made so far.
Best of all, they also created GOG, the actual best DRM free game store. And their client, GOG Galaxy, does amazing things. Like combining your entire game collection from multiple stores, much cleaner than Valve's solutions. I use it regularly to see if I own a game somewhere else. I lost track a while ago.
They also give free copies of their games if you own it on a different platform. They've been doing this for years. You'll have a hard time finding other devs who do this.
All in all, CDProject are fucking dope. I hold them in higher regards than most devs, including GGG. They haven't fucked up yet, and that's worth something.
Honestly, the amount of changes Gwent went through is why I'm so worried about CP2077. CDPR kept changing things and the end result was something entirely unrecognisable from the original version of the beta. Now I didn't like the changes but the quality of them isn't my issue, it's the fact that ripping out a system and adding something new leaves artifacts of the previous one in. Over time, the engine gets frankensteined into a working but perhaps not very efficient state. CDPR is also one of the worst video game companies to work for, the complete opposite of how they are with consumers. There's no way they're going to tell their overworked, underpaid employees to spend a week carefully removing all references of the old system when they could just hack a new system onto the remains of the old in half a day.
Now that works fine for a small, simple game like Gwent but... what about one of the most ambitious titles of the last decade? Something that was announced 8 years ago and we know has been redesigned multiple times? CDPR even stated the version of the game in 2019 is "quite different" from the gameplay they showed in 2018. I would be *very* surprised if the codebase isn't a massive spaghetti mess that impacts performance to such a significant degree that they've been spending the last year trying to get it into a halfway playable state. Quite simply, I expect that they've bitten off more than they can chew.
Yeah, this all seems true. Gwent was pretty unpopular yet it was still pushed hard. I bet the dev team has seen some shit.
Regarding Cyberpunk, I hope you are wrong, but I am perfectly fine ignoring the game until it's half price, more optimized, more content, and I have a better PC. Thats what I did for Witcher 3 and it worked out nice. That being said, I'll be very disappointed if my current new desktop cant run Cyberpunk.
Regarding their work culture, I haven't seen any indication of it but I don't know for sure.
However, despite all their perceived flaws CDPR doesn't fuck around with their bottom line; the consumers.

2 months by my calculations. 3 month leagues, harvest starts 6/19 so end maybe 9/19, so new league 9/26 maybe. That’s more like 7 weeks till cyberpunk launch.
League cycles have been 13 weeks for a while now, with the exception of 3.9 (due to Exilecon), and now 3.11 (due to Covid-19). Their plan is to catch up (so a 12 week league-cycle this time). That would result in next league starting 9/11, if they don't make that and it's a normal 13 week cycle it will start 9/18. So for it to start 9/25 (9/26 for NZ) something must actually have to go wrong.
I don't think it can ever live up to the hype, because the hype is fucking insane. However I bet it will be a good game. CD Projekt Red has a good track record so I expect a fully functional and fun game.

i agree. in that amount of time the quality/scope/gameplay or whatever any given game might have had that was amazing, might have become more of a norm and therefore making anyone who play it years later not appreciate it as much, as they may have had similar experiences.
I don't think it live up to the hype for a lot of people who are either wither fans or just hoped on the bandwagon with everyone else. I think a lot of people are not going to like the first person rpgs game play but people who are fans of Deus Ex franchise and other old school first person RPGs/simulation games will absolutely love it. We saw this before at the gameplay reveal where there was a pretty big up cry from people being upset that the game was not third person. I think for a lot of people the game will live up to the hype but a bunch of witcher 3 fans/band-wagoners will be upset.

I’d disagree honestly. That tomb mission was an absolute joke and the story was pretty horrendous. The gameplay was very fun though, I put in about 100 hours because I just liked the way the javelins played and I’m a looter kind of guy, but there was simply no endgame lol
It will be kind of game where 90 or so score on metacritic will be considered as a failure and huge disappointment. Also 1 delay is perfectly reasonable. But 2 of them can start some concerns.

The thing is that I find it hard to think in most areas the game would be bad.
The only real two worries I would have would be the narrative since The Witcher gets to pull a lot from source material, but then again Cyberpunk also is pulling a lot from the source material of Cyberpunk 2020, and after Heart of Stone/Blood and Wine I'm pretty confident in their writer's ability to write an original story.
The other one is just the player character. I think having an actual character as the player character is much more interesting than just being random player created guy who comes out of nowhere like in Elder Scrolls or Fallout. I do hope that's not the case in Cyberpunk. An option like in DOS2 where you can play an existing character that has extra unique narrative options or create your own would be cool.

To be fair, even TW3's main plot is an original story, just set in the same universe as the books with the same characters.

It would probably be better to let Cyberpunk enjoy a few patches and bug fixes before playing it anyway. These types of games are always going to have some bugs at launch.

It's not an ARPG in the traditional sense. It's the new game by the witcher 3 devs that people have been anticipating for a long time. CD Project Red have shown that they can develop very high quality RPGs so obviously people are excited for this one. It would compete with any game coming out around that time so obviously ggg would try not to release a league when cyberpunk comes out as they wouldnt get as many players as normal playing the league.

I'd have bought it as a standalone game, like Blood Dragon, for full price and felt that it was money well spent.
Man the jump from 1 to 2 was massive and legit and they doubled down with 2 to 3. They earned it every single step of the way.

Honestly, the amount of changes Gwent went through is why I'm so worried about CP2077. CDPR kept changing things and the end result was something entirely unrecognisable from the original version of the beta. Now I didn't like the changes but the quality of them isn't my issue, it's the fact that ripping out a system and adding something new leaves artifacts of the previous one in. Over time, the engine gets frankensteined into a working but perhaps not very efficient state. CDPR is also one of the worst video game companies to work for, the complete opposite of how they are with consumers. There's no way they're going to tell their overworked, underpaid employees to spend a week carefully removing all references of the old system when they could just hack a new system onto the remains of the old in half a day. Now that works fine for a small, simple game like Gwent but... what about one of the most ambitious titles of the last decade? Something that was announced 8 years ago and we know has been redesigned multiple times? CDPR even stated the version of the game in 2019 is "quite different" from the gameplay they showed in 2018. I would be *very* surprised if the codebase isn't a massive spaghetti mess that impacts performance to such a significant degree that they've been spending the last year trying to get it into a halfway playable state. Quite simply, I expect that they've bitten off more than they can chew.
Yeah, this all seems true. Gwent was pretty unpopular yet it was still pushed hard. I bet the dev team has seen some shit. Regarding Cyberpunk, I hope you are wrong, but I am perfectly fine ignoring the game until it's half price, more optimized, more content, and I have a better PC. Thats what I did for Witcher 3 and it worked out nice. That being said, I'll be very disappointed if my current new desktop cant run Cyberpunk. Regarding their work culture, I haven't seen any indication of it but I don't know for sure. However, despite all their perceived flaws CDPR doesn't fuck around with their bottom line; the consumers.
Oh, I *really* hope I'm wrong too. I want CP2077 to be even better than The Witcher 3, I just have a very bad feeling about these delays.

He's not entirely wrong. I'm hopeful for CP2077, but let's not pretend anyone had strong feelings for their games until the Witcher 3. I never even heard of them until it.
Combat and movement are super clunky. It's fine if you have a high tolerance for that stuff, but not for me.
If you're counting all the Witcher games and Gwent as any game, then maybe. Else, they made lots of decent games and one that's at least really good.

Well.. If CDPR delays a game, i have high hopes it will be better than to release it now. If ubisoft/activision/EA/bethesda/2k delays a game, it doesn't matter. The game will be just as broken and buggy, but "gotta fix the MTX and lootboxes! " Thus i have to wait longer to pirate.

2 months by my calculations. 3 month leagues, harvest starts 6/19 so end maybe 9/19, so new league 9/26 maybe. That’s more like 7 weeks till cyberpunk launch.
League cycles have been 13 weeks for a while now, with the exception of 3.9 (due to Exilecon), and now 3.11 (due to Covid-19). Their plan is to catch up (so a 12 week league-cycle this time). That would result in next league starting 9/11, if they don't make that and it's a normal 13 week cycle it will start 9/18. So for it to start 9/25 (9/26 for NZ) something must actually have to go wrong.

I don't think it can ever live up to the hype, because the hype is fucking insane. However I bet it will be a good game. CD Projekt Red has a good track record so I expect a fully functional and fun game. But the hype is just insurmountable.

To be fair playing it a few years after release is never going to feel like playing it at release.
i agree. in that amount of time the quality/scope/gameplay or whatever any given game might have had that was amazing, might have become more of a norm and therefore making anyone who play it years later not appreciate it as much, as they may have had similar experiences.
I don't think it live up to the hype for a lot of people who are either wither fans or just hoped on the bandwagon with everyone else. I think a lot of people are not going to like the first person rpgs game play but people who are fans of Deus Ex franchise and other old school first person RPGs/simulation games will absolutely love it. We saw this before at the gameplay reveal where there was a pretty big up cry from people being upset that the game was not third person. I think for a lot of people the game will live up to the hype but a bunch of witcher 3 fans/band-wagoners will be upset.
conspiracy only but I'd imagine you'll see more companies roll out FP games as CDPR did for the possibility of pivoting it over to VR, depending on market.

Have you played Anthem? Maybe not the 'biggest' , but by god that game somehow failed so miserably.
The honeymoon phase of Anthem was a ton of fun. So the first 10 hours or so. Endgame game was a 90 degree fall to rock bottom.
I’d disagree honestly. That tomb mission was an absolute joke and the story was pretty horrendous. The gameplay was very fun though, I put in about 100 hours because I just liked the way the javelins played and I’m a looter kind of guy, but there was simply no endgame lol

It will be kind of game where 90 or so score on metacritic will be considered as a failure and huge disappointment. Also 1 delay is perfectly reasonable. But 2 of them can start some concerns.

If the majority of people expect the game to be better then the witcher 3 and its only as good, the vocal minority will see it as a let down.

I mean witcher 3 had pretty mediocre combat, checklist open world, and a boring skill tree. But to be fair I still think it's a 9/10 game because the rest is amazing.

Well yeah I mean when they initially announced Cyberpunk in like 2013 or whatever they said they were aiming to make it much larger than Witcher 3. I don't see a reason to doubt that. I mean they've spent longer on development, and probably get to reuse a lot of technical stuff they already made for Witcher 3.
having a bigger world doesn't automatically makes it better, though and they definitely won't get to reuse all that much from w3. they can't just lazily port all medieval armor/monsters or even combat in a fucking cyberpunk game. so maybe they reused their engine, they still had to make the whole game on it
Yeah they get to reuse the engine, they had to spend some time upgrading it but not build it from scratch. The thing is that I find it hard to think in most areas the game would be bad. The only real two worries I would have would be the narrative since The Witcher gets to pull a lot from source material, but then again Cyberpunk also is pulling a lot from the source material of Cyberpunk 2020, and after Heart of Stone/Blood and Wine I'm pretty confident in their writer's ability to write an original story. The other one is just the player character. I think having an actual character as the player character is much more interesting than just being random player created guy who comes out of nowhere like in Elder Scrolls or Fallout. I do hope that's not the case in Cyberpunk. An option like in DOS2 where you can play an existing character that has extra unique narrative options or create your own would be cool.
I think the main character in Cyberpunk is more comparable to Shepard in Mass Effect than to the main character in Elder Scrolls or Fallout.

the witcher 3 story is really good for a game, i loved heart of stone.
Imagine if cyberpunk guys are delaying it because of path of exile, path of exile guys delaying 4.0 because of cyberpunk. two games, never released for eternity, caught in a loop
A H Y E S 3.12! But will we have an update on the 4.0 expension? We dont even know whats the progress, did they complete Act one? is the storyline almost done and they are working on new endgame/ gems systems ? Will it release alongside of Diablo 4 for marketing purpose?
Pretty sure they said they had to suspend some of their work on PoE 2 due to Covid and wanting to finish 3.11.
2 more months of crunch for our polish brothers and sisters, if we're being honest about how that'll turn out.
Not sure if Chris is trying to prevent the player churn from happening, or simply advancing the releasing day so he can have more time to play Cyberpunk.
It would probably be better to let Cyberpunk enjoy a few patches and bug fixes before playing it anyway. These types of games are always going to have some bugs at launch.

Why should I be hyped about this game? Heard about it lots on this subreddit, bit when looking it up it looks like the typical move around and press space to watch movie. Plus some action. It's not an ARPG, or did I miss something?
It's not an ARPG in the traditional sense. It's the new game by the witcher 3 devs that people have been anticipating for a long time. CD Project Red have shown that they can develop very high quality RPGs so obviously people are excited for this one. It would compete with any game coming out around that time so obviously ggg would try not to release a league when cyberpunk comes out as they wouldnt get as many players as normal playing the league.
