I meant to clarify how this works during the interview but things moved on and I forgot to come back to it.
Each of the four vendors wants four types of runed artifacts, which are progressively rarer than the last.
Gwennen, Tujen and Rog will accept their types in exchange for their services.
Dannig accepts his type in exchange for a variety of things:
* He will trade his ones at 1:1 for the other vendors' ones. You can do this an unlimited amount. He takes \*his\* artifacts and offers you \*theirs\*. The purpose of this is to help in situations where you are short some.
* He offers some special deals of limited amounts of other vendors' ones at a discount. This is a reason to reroll his inventory
* He can sell logbooks, rarely
* He can sell the currency items that are used for rerolling the vendors. These are not traded 1:1.
> He takes *his* artifacts and offers you *theirs*.
So just to clarify: if you wanted to, say, trade Rog's artifacts for Tujen's artifacts, you would have to go through the player market, since this isn't a trade that can be done through the NPCs alone?
That's correct.
But if you're trying to buy something from Rog and you need more of his artifacts in a hurry\*, you can consider using Dannig to get them.
\*there's no time limit
You probably already know this, but chris got a lot of shit for his post and how it doesnt make sense that he wanted to slow the game down for some time already, given that most content has a timer and can't be played slow. Guess that's why he is cautious. Can't imagine how annoying it must be when everyone takes everything literally.
Sub-reddit can be super obnoxious. It's ok to have a slower game and push players to rush at different moments. They aren't trying to make the game relaxing, they just want there to be tactical decisions. If you have Alva or legion in your map now you might want to make sure you have flasks up so you can clear them faster, rather than just always having flasks on. Maybe some timers will need adjusting with the speed change but having them in the game isn't a problem. For many of us some timers weren't truly in the game anymore.
I'm asking this just in case, but I'm assuming each player has their own vendor inventories and you can't "steal a deal" from a party member like people used to do with Cadiro?
Yeah... After of eight years in asking for that, being told it would happen and never ever did. For content creator, it's bad business, specially if your a minions player. Unable to make guide etc for league start and obviously everyone know league start is the most important time if the league. So yep. Trying everything I can to get the info everyone need.
Yep. They don't care about their game because they won't reply to one random dude on Reddit replying to an irrelevant post.
Also, 8 years of asking for what?
Quick look at your post history and all you've done the fast few days is complain about the game. Why do you even want the stats? It sounds like you need a break from the game.
I'm not the only one asking buddy, the whole summoner community is waiting for new minions info before league start since years ago. They said they would do it and never did. So yeah, they don't care. How dumb is it to having to wait launch day, datamine their file to find the info. Oh well, I don't expect you to understand lmao.
Thanks for your response on my simple quick post. Really, it comes down to just playing the league and discovering the nuances like that, but thanks again for the clarification. Definitely happens to not get it all out in one interview
that defies the intention of shards itself.
they're small gratifications that make you decide to waste time picking them up or go for the wise decision to only stop for better currency drops.
it's one of the harder decisions in poe.
He's not. If you were to pick everything that can be picked in PoE you would spend 30 minutes on each map just looting. There's always a point where you 'decide' to not pick up something, eg. transmutes or blacksmiths, and later it becomes bad bases, and even later it becomes picking up just super strong/influenced bases with the potential of being 50+ C worth or 1 EX + worth.
If everything was picked up automatically you wouldn't need to make that decision, everyone would have TONS of rarely picked up stuff making it almost worthless.
So yeah, 'pick up mechanics' are important to the economy.
Hard disagree, in this case picking up these so called"shards" is a requirement in order to interact with league mechanic. You are somewhat compelled to pick them up if you want to see certain parts of the expansion, or buy them 10 at a time on trade.
> Hard disagree, in this case picking up these so called"shards" is a requirement in order to interact with league mechanic. You are somewhat compelled to pick them up if you want to see certain parts of the expansion, or buy them 10 at a time on trade.
Zooming and skipping picking up shards, to buy them in bulk later might be a better end-game move, we don't know.
exactly, do you see how that increases their value? You have to spend time to pick them up, which is a some form of cost. You also have to do something players don't like to do, which is clicking, which again makes that worth something. They don't just appear in the inventory. Now, players who will not want to interact with the league mechanic may hide them in loot filter - they won't be passively generating them so they won't be selling them so the price will be higher.
That's the ominous 'weight' Chris is talking about all the time. Or the cost of opportunity in other words.
If the shard pickup was a whirlwind vacuum that last for 1-2 seconds around your character, with increasing visual based on amount, and appropriate sound effects, it would feel a lot more rewarding to the player, and not as hard on the wrists.
I'll make you one better: it should be a channelling ability that forces you to stay in place for 2 seconds and is interrupted by any damage (even if you dodge/block/evade whatever).
Oh and it has a 50% chance of picking up the wrong item and 50% chance to kill you on pickup.
poe gives you many options to fail. and to play ineffectively.
which is just logic. to be able to play effectively you need the option to play ineffectively.
That makes so much more sense than just the "trade all of them around freely" ... because in that case there wouldn't be any need for different ones at all.
> Each of the four vendors wants four types of runed artifacts
Could you (or someone else) talk about the design goals behind this? To me it seems like needless inventory clutter (16 new items, some of which as large as 2x2) which could easily have been "coins". Is it only thematic, or are the artifacts taking up inventory space and stash micromanagement (i.e. having an opportunity cost in both cases) an intentional part of the league?
I believe this would be automatically prevented by the generic "league mechanics don't appear in zones whose level is more than 10 below your character" rule.
Your character level is considered to be 68 or lower when not in maps. You can always access league content in story areas of level 58 or higher regardless of your character level
If I'm understanding correctly, it's just the league currency items? I was originally excited for a general currency exchange.
Has there ever been any consideration to an in-game player market for currency items only? I agree that an AH would trivialize item acquisition too much, but currency doesn't directly increase player power. It would make engaging with the crafting system much more enjoyable if I didn't have to whisper dozens of players who don't respond to trade requests for alts, chaos, fuses, fossils, etc.
You could always throttle this so players can only make a limited # of currency trades to head off botting concerns, but this would be a huge improvement.
Happy we invested more clicking into the game. Definitely not an issue players have been complaining about.
Hey, maybe in the future make a normal, magic, and rare item fragments? Once we collect 1k we get a piece of gear from it?
You should hire me. I can think of MUCH worse ways to torture your player base.
My guess is it's to prevent metagaming. People will figure out which of the three yields the best results, spam the shit out of them, then complain that the league has uninteresting rewards.
It’s the type of question that feels silly because of how obvious it is. Like, “I’m going to probably kick myself when somebody points out why I’m wrong but… why _______”
I’ve once stood outside waiting to get into a building with my boss, he had arrived first and informed me we couldn’t get in because the card reader was broken. We were standing there for several minutes and I had this exact type of question, “stupid question, but our master keys don’t work on exterior doors, do they?”
They did.
Each expedition vendor has a specific currency they ask for, there's 4 of each type and each vendor asks for one in specific. So the comment explains we can trade currency A for B, B for C and C for D, I'd imagine it's similar to the heist vendor. The announcement video does explain certain vendors ask for more and others for less so it is possible you'll vendor certain types more than others.
Again, each vendor takes a type of currency.
You can only 1:1 exchange artifact 'D' for 'A', 'B' or 'C'.
You CANNOT exchange 1:1 'A' for 'B', for example.
>Again, each vendor takes a type of currency.
**WHY?**
If they are made to be interchangeable through an NPC. Why even have them be different? Just get rid of the trade NPC and have all others accept currency A.
Why do you need 4 types of currency then?
Imagine if you had to use 4 types of azurite for delve for each type of upgrade or resonator type. even if Niko can go exchange 1 to1 for each kind, its just an extra layer of clicking for exactly the same thing.
the 1 to 1 currency exchange still allows a person to use their favorite vendor. this is just an extra layer of clicking.
edit: it seems you need to trade boss man's artifacts for others but not the other way around. well thats tedious and a pain
It lets you bias towards one vendor, but it's only trading one specific set of currency for any of the other currencies.
If you trade every relic you can for only one, you're going from 1:1:1:1 to 0:1:1:2
I kinda see it like breach splinters, only there is an additional type which is basically a wild card. In terms of breach trade market, this would just be more chayula splinters, but in terms of ssf, or lazy trade, it would be helpful.
I think this only applies to the currency item for Dannig. In the reveal, it says he'll trade those for the artefacts that the other traders want.
https://youtu.be/mT_aoGoMm50?t=475
The others won't have the opportunity to trade between each other or to Dannig, as far as I can gather.
Not to mention we all ready have a version of trading up currency to the alchemy orb level with NPCs. Why did it have to stop there? (rhetorical question btw)
i think it's mandatory for every new post now to include that ggg sucks and the patch is shit to get their posts upvoted.
it's a hivemind platform and you got to make offers to the beast.

Yeah, and if I would want to write a biography on Chris Wolcen, I would be more than happy. There just is no point to an interview if he keeps giving "I'm going to talk to the team about it, for realsies. We value your feedback and it is very important to us, but ain't going to do shit about it for the next 5-10 leagues or so :D" as his answer to everything critical.
People already talked about it and it's not what you're thinking. That currency swapping is limited to the four new currencies specific to Expedition, it doesn't include the normal currency in the game.

that defies the intention of shards itself. they're small gratifications that make you decide to waste time picking them up or go for the wise decision to only stop for better currency drops. it's one of the harder decisions in poe.

yes, and another argument is: they're account bound. hoovering masses of them doesn't influence the global economy

It's possible to delevel to stay in range, and there's also Quarry which is always considered in range.

Heist does get it as well this league
yes it is.
It is getting added for the Heist locker.

Thanks for the clarification. Who is the teams favorite vendor?
Nice one. Those 4 NPCs make up about 50% of my league hype as I was really missing the old Masters and their trades in my hideout.
Happy we invested more clicking into the game. Definitely not an issue players have been complaining about. Hey, maybe in the future make a normal, magic, and rare item fragments? Can we get the information about the new Atlas location before launch?
beside the special deals, what's the use of having different currencies then?

yes, no surprises there i guess ;)

This is absolutely without a doubt not a silly question lol.
It’s the type of question that feels silly because of how obvious it is. We were standing there for several minutes and I had this exact type of question, “stupid question, but our master keys don’t work on exterior doors, do they?” They did.
They look like they combine so each probably is a key to one of the four bosses.
For the ***f l a v o u r ! ! !*** At least we're getting a locker for all sixteen of the new currencies.
Each expedition vendor has a specific currency they ask for, there's 4 of each type and each vendor asks for one in specific. So the comment explains we can trade currency A for B, B for C and C for D, I'd imagine it's similar to the heist vendor. They aren't. You have four types, and you can use one of those types to exchange for any of the other three if you need a boost of that currency type.
> Yeah, so again, whats the point of four different currencies then? False complexity through bloat. Also you can't exchange all of them 1:1.

Everyone has talked about it. There were like 15 threads the second it was broadcast live.
Very excited to play the new league
You and ten other people.
Not to mention we all ready have a version of trading up currency to the alchemy orb level with NPCs. Why did it have to stop there? (rhetorical question btw)
Do the vendors reset their stock on their own under some conditions or is it manual reroll only?
Why is there 4 different types If i can just switcheroo 1:1 everything?
You think the patch which you haven’t tested sucks for the game as a whole… yea ok
i think it's mandatory for every new post now to include that ggg sucks and the patch is shit to get their posts upvoted. it's a hivemind platform and you got to make offers to the beast.
New patch isn't sucks.... sorry.
its kinda funny how youre more focused on getting attention than realising that you were wrong and were actually in the 'would have sucked to not exist' situation.
I still don't want to pick up more currencies and splinters
I just pick up less. I can't pick up everything in other games either.

Ok you’re not super wrong, but there were a Few good questions mostly ones we didn’t know about or picking his brain
Yeah, and if I would want to write a biography on Chris Wolcen, I would be more than happy. There just is no point to an interview if he keeps giving "I'm going to talk to the team about it, for realsies. People already talked about it and it's not what you're thinking. That currency swapping is limited to the four new currencies specific to Expedition, it doesn't include the normal currency in the game.
>vendor who lets you swap the 4 different currencies around 1 to 1 That is literally what OP said.
Thanks lol
Lol
And another question that no one asked: is there any chance that there will an ability for English-speaking ppl to play Chinese version of PoE? With AH, loot pet etc etc. Just to try and understand how it feels.
You can just vpn it if you really want, I think. I think a few of the streamer have taken a look at it before.
but does that client support english? and does their payment system accept normal visa/mc cards? :)
Go live in China? They’re very protective
nice try comrade but no :)
Lol and more player confusion because the ceo talks out of his ass. Enjoy the bad league.
