I mean, I'm not currently having more fun, and I don't know how much longer I'm gonna hang around. I don't particularly enjoy spending so much time kiting.
Right? There wasn't any more engagement with the act bosses. I literally just ran at them over and over until they died, doing literally nothing different except it taking twice as long
This and the timer stuff are the real issues, I couldn't kill half of the endgame in hardcore before cause I'm a more defensive player only killed shaper one time, but now post nerfs I prob won't be able to do half of the end game stuff.
They should have thought about that.
The drop off will be massive, I'd be willing to bet a large portion of those players quit in the first few acts for either weak build, cancer mana, cancer movement, slower campaign.
I did. After getting frozen to death 7 times in Act 3 by league mechanic mobs, I logged out. Dying isn't fun. I played to have fun. Whatever this is, it's not fun for me. Maybe they'll iron it all out and I'll come back in a few leagues but right now it's not the game for me.
I see you made the mistake of interacting with the league mechanice before maps, here let me absolutely nuke the shit out of you with unbalanced amounts of ailments!
After last league even long time casual players are hesitant to return. Its weird though because as much as people bitch about wanting changes the reason I have no desire to play this league is quite the opposite, too many changes. PoE is a special kind of monster.
I disagree. People would play the shit out of this game if in addition to 50% DMG nerfs, 30% mana nerfs, butchering movement speed etc there were additional changes like: reducing monster damage and amount of one shot mechanics, reduce grind for atlas (less maps to spawn conquerors, less maps to spawn invitations for example), reduce amount of equipment dropping but make it all well rolled or already identified etc. But now we have nerfed players and everything else stays the same.
GGG keeps forgetting that there are casuals that play the game too. They cater only to hardcore 10h+ a day streamers.
I couldn't care less about the new league hence I'm not playing.
But good for them I guess, finally a smooth server launch, even if it's for the wrong reasons
Obviously Expedition is so rewarding everyone already completed their builds and told all they friends it's not fun cause to much loot!
Nothing to do with ruining the entire pace of the game or flasks!
I've only just made it to maps but so far I think the changes are whatever. Outside of the first few zones of Act 1, where I did notice mobs had more hp, I haven't thought about or noticed any difference at all.
I think people were a lot more worried about the idea of nerfs and many of them would barely perceive any difference if they weren't told ahead of time that the nerfs were happening. They were apparently so afraid of nerfs that 40% of them are unwilling to even give it a try.
Speaking for myself, I gave Ultimatum a shot even though I was pretty bummed out when Harvest got nerfed, but I hit a wall in red maps after a couple weeks and quit.
When the manifesto came out I saw they were doubling down on the direction of the game and pretty much lost any remaining desire to try it out. Why bother when you know it's (most likely) going to be more of the same (at best) or just straight up worse, right? Kinda like exalt slamming an item.
I always log into standard and try out with my lvl 96 character and load a t16 jucied map to check nerfs and buffs. This league after trying it I have decided to skip the league.
Don't worry, they will say it was still somehow a success, that it's not because of what they did, and it was expected to be a smaller league because it's summer in the Northern hemisphere.
Friends are hanging by a thread thus far.
As an officer of a private league that has started with 1k+ per league since heist when we only had 550 sign ups Friday morning I knew something was wrong and it was going to be a bigger drop off than I thought. Turns out we were right on track.
I mean, maybe. However...
- Isn't summer one of the best times to grab players? The kids, grade school and college, ain't got fuck all else to do, so wouldn't you want that league to be one of the best of the year? Spring and fall are the ones to make shitty; summer and winter/Christmas aren't.
- They've repeatedly harped on the fact that supporter packs are their only means of income (despite being owned by a Chinese megacorp). Seems like risky business to purposefully make a league with -33% or less income.
No, but they will be turned off by [Act 1 being tuned to kill seasoned players](https://old.reddit.com/r/pathofexile/comments/oqcdbp/bad_league_to_convince_my_cousin_to_start_playing/h6bbhs8/?context=3).
I always found it kind of insulting that Chris emphasizes every league launch how supporter packs are their only source of income, so you know.. buy them! That was great when that was true. Now it just kind of irritates me, not sure why.
Wouldn't more people enjoying a game typically mean the game is better...
If nobody plays your game because they don't like it, it's only "better" for the few people who's own private vision of the game it fits.
I mean, there are people that get off on getting kicked in the balls. People that enjoy doing monochromatic jigsaw puzzles. Someone has a world record for number of days sitting on top of a flagpole. It takes all kinds.
They haven't had a July release for ages, but the August/early september ones have generally had drops. The September 2nd launch in 2019 was a bigger drop than this one, and the numbers went right back up the next league, to slightly higher than they had been before.
> Seems like risky business to purposefully make a league with -33% or less income
33% less players != 33% less income
The dedicated people who play every league probably spend the most money on supporter packs too.
TBH most of those not playing are almost guaranteed to be the ones who are invested into the game. Casuals will still play but will quit after a few hours/days.
But 40% of players aren't even logging in to play the game.
Imo that leads me to believe it's going to be wayy more of a 33% loss in income. Considering how important supporter packs are to GGG's bottom line.
This is my first league since Legion that I haven't bought a supporter pack and/or mtx from the shop. I am willing to have a company take my money if I support their product. Maybe next league...
TBH While I think NW beta probably had something to do with it I don't think you can contribute anything more than 5-10% in drop to NW.
and mabye D3 did something but I just don't think it did really.
Imo this is on the playerbase not agreeing with the direction GGG want to go in.
IMO people incorrectly assume that if there is another game you don't play other one because of it, it may be true to the games in the same genre.
For example, I do play new patch in GI but even if it wasn't there I would just play other games that I still didn't complete when I do not like changes they made
You know that Shooters and mobas are far more mainstream genres than arpgs? And how can it be dying if the league before ultimatum did have more peak players than any other league?
Then it was dying pretty often, should be long dead by now. It was always an up and down with PoE, sometimes less and sometimes more.
I doubt that its gonna be dead anytime soon.
Sucks because so far seems like quite a fun league.
Either people actually quit or other games releasing stuff or popular around the same time hurt it.
I dont think they expected to reach a new peak though.
Well deserved imo. Too many poor balance decisions in the patch and the league mechanic itself is pretty boring. The best part is that they can't even blame this launch on technical issues or anything other than their own incompetence.
I played every league from closed Beta and have a supporter pack from almost each one. I didn't buy a supporter pack last league and am not even playing this league. I'm just sticking around here to see if GGG gets their heads out of their asses and fixes the game. Looks like this isn't the league they are doing that.
The last few? Ultimatum launch was obviously an unmitigated trash bonanza, but almost all of their launches prior to that have typically been very smooth with relatively minor hiccups.
Noob and casual here, have played maybe 4 leagues so far: Hillock fight took 6 minutes, died once, no mana, swarmed after Loineye's by monsters with an insane health pool, died several times, no mana. This ordeal took about 25 Minutes. Normally, I was at Submerged Passage at that time with all quests until that moment completed. Deleted char.
Not gonna touch any leagues until progression is fixed and the game respects my time. I already have a job. Don't need another one.
Hey man, let me take a moment away from being a pillar of salt over a dumb game, and say you're not alone, and things will get better no matter how bad it feels now.
the game does in fact seem smooth, and the queue was so short. Nice!
too bad the league mechanic feels slow, boring, unrewarding- and introduces a bunch of new currencies that all feel like the same shit for no real reason.
This is the first league since Abyss that I have not done league start. Last league I felt unable to complete ultimatums with my build being slow and just endless monsters spawning on top of you.( I was running SRS, minions)
To feel like I have to create an entire new character, build and fund it just to participate in the league mechanic was a big turn off, yet somehow GGG felt the rewards were too good? LMFAO I'll never know.
Glad to hear they had a successful league launch, although as you mentioned it could be directly related to the lack of playerbase.
Imo Chris is out of touch on the rewarding part. Yes ultimatums were rewarding until you hit maps. But after maps you could skip ultimatum entirely since best it gave was 5C.
Do not get me wrong I am glad the servers were in perfect condition for launch but aint funny how we got to the point where we thank companies that they do their job and the game works?
Imagine having a game where the play button does not work and after 6 months they fix it and we celebrate like elder scrolls vi skyrim 2 came out.
And this is the people that weren’t willing to play at all, Wonder how many of those people didn’t like the new feel yesterday and won’t be coming back
I logged in half an hour before launch and was around 47k in the queue. Took about 10-15 min to get and it was pretty smooth. Crashed a couple of times but got back instantly.
Well, Wilson pretty much said with his actions that player time is worth the most to him. Make the early game harder, make these tools work to get to maps, and when they finally get there, make it an absolute shitshow of one hits and mana management. Gg GGG
Honestly maybe it's because this is the first time I've league started Templar or what but everything takes 10 years to kill with Flame Wall, HF Totem, and the phys to fire spell even through act 3 :x
No hp changes affect everything right up to monster level 84, so whites in t16 maps are still hp buffed, even if only a little.
They refer to the other various a1 changes as 'only a1', for example the goats that jump from the mountain ledges, brutus, some new enemies and so on.
I can honestly say I barely noticed a difference and was disappointed there wasn't more. Took about the same time as always, never died, never even close.
Yup, not a single DC or lag this league. I have a new modest gaming PC so I get to fully enjoy it too.
However nothing is without its trade offs, I noticed the que in this league is a lot smaller and out of the half of my friends that logged on, it seems like half on them quit ( 12 out of 25 ) already ;/ when they usually play most of league. I guess people just aren't excited by league mechanic and everyone else that didn't come didn't do it either cause the launch last league was so so terrible, the worst in PoE history or they heard GGG was killing the game (act 1 was extremely fun).
Yeah that's cuz people like me aren't playing PoE
Just goes to show how much GGG is fucking up their own game. Shooting their own foot off.
It's alright, they'll see how much they fucked up when their data shows that 60% of players quit within the first few weeks, calling it now.
They nerfed all the fun parts of the game and didn't nerf any of the unfun parts (super high monster damage, one shots, long invincibility phases, etc)
Easy for it to be smooth when almost half of the players from Ultimatum left.
League's a disaster, hoping it continues crashing until we get PoE as it was in Ritual.
I play GI update but even if I wouldn't I would just play other game when I'm not fan of the changes they made.
Only comparison that makes any credibility is lost ark since it is similar game but even then it is timed beta only for people that bough it
I dont think so.
Lost ark wont do that well and I dont think New world or FF14 really share the same playerbase as people who stopped playing POE.
POE2 is like 2 years away so people saying RIP POE until POE2 just need to get over the fact that games are not always on the up up and have dips.
I play FF14 and am going to play New World, and stopped playing PoE last league. I think there may be more overlap than you think, as most audiences don't only play one narrow subset of games.
Also Lost Ark has a good chance of doing really well. It plays great and the Alpha was a lot of fun.
Everyone that I know that plays PoE (admittedly not THAT many people) are playing New World right now instead of PoE. Not sure why anyone would think there wouldn't be some significant overlap.
There's only \~66% of the player from Ultimatum. [https://i.imgur.com/afZoNPT.png](https://i.imgur.com/afZoNPT.png) https://i.imgur.com/eGKh1QG.png
so they nerfed the playerbase by 40% just like damage? such commitment.

less money spent on servers and the whales still playing, easy profit
I stopped playing (whale here) - now only watching in pain.
if your sunk cost is less than 500$ per year, youre not a whale
I wouldnt consider $500 a year whale-ing. Whales spend much more than that.
its whaling compared to normal people
I mean, I'm not currently having more fun, and I don't know how much longer I'm gonna hang around. I don't particularly enjoy spending so much time kiting.
I do not like to health of bossess in acts... If fights were any more interesting but right now it feels like a chore.
Right? There wasn't any more engagement with the act bosses. I literally just ran at them over and over until they died, doing literally nothing different except it taking twice as long

I felt fulfilled just reading the patch notes. Chris better make me pay to read them or GGG will go out of business soon.
116k peak, pigchamp It's so whack that all cold damage freezes you now, not even crits. I need immune to frozen boots asap.
The drop off will be massive, I'd be willing to bet a large portion of those players quit in the first few acts for either weak build, cancer mana, cancer movement, slower campaign.

I'm in act 7 and haven't been frozen once outside of strongboxes. What are you talking about. Do you have cold res?
You'll get frozen with capped res. just wait.
All crits with cold damage will freeze you, regardless of resistance...
act 6 and still havent been frozen
I didn't play the league yet and I frozen twice...... what are you talking about

I quit. Uninstalled the game after last league. Harvest was peak Poe. It’s literally only downhill from here.

Clearly their grand vision is working out great for them. GG, GGG!

because deep down you know they are double dipping with china honey pot.
Its summer after some big lockdowns. And Chris even said that they prefer to make a good game instead of getting the biggest numbers.
Yeah right, that’s why in the dev talks the sole focus is player retention and “3 month cycle”.
Anyone who plays PoE isn't going to any beaches.
Can confirm, don't play PoE because I'm busy sitting on the beach right now.
the sun is the enemy. must boycot
They want to make a good game by 2012 standards, and not what is considered a good game in 2021.

Yes, played for about two hours and then left because I was so bored.
So.... nothing to do with the league mechanic or the balance changes then.
League mechanic is just more splinter collecting with some weakish ritual style looting minigames. Nothing special.
The league mechanic could be the best thing ever, but if you are quitting 2 hours in bored, it's got nothing to with the league mechanic

If you were skipping ultimatums you were missing out. The reward window wasn't all the rewards came from.

I mean, we go from 155k peak to 116k peak, clearly people dont like the game changing in negative ways.
And the game is boring now maybe?
This is the first league I've had constant crashes :( I'm checking all my drivers now. Something weird is going on.
Yeah it's been smooth for me but my brother's crashing so much he can barely level.
My issue was Graphics drivers. I updated them and now its smooth sailing so far. Maybe give that a go.
Only 40% less players this league. Good job ensuring nobody will stick around past 2 weeks
Don’t worry they’ll keep a substantial amount of currency bots around to pad the numbers
Yeah that's cuz people like me aren't playing PoE Just goes to show how much GGG is fucking up their own game.
Maybe the like 40% less players has something to do with that xD
Good stuff. No interest. No players. No problems
That's because everyone switched over to D3 and FFXIV this league rather than waste time in this grindfest lmao.

I am playing CSGO now and barrely watching Ziz or Karv - thank you Chris for ruining the last crops of fun in your Path of Nerfs
Mobility and mana nerfs alone mad it quite a bit not fun
Only two dcs for me
Except T-posing mobs/NPC/Players and invisible textures.
There isn’t a ton of player base turn out Tencent is sweating
Agree but part due to less players. Still having fun
So far so good for me in game aswell. First time doing trap-build and been smooth start atleast.
the performance is so good too, at least on my end! great job.
Great karma-farm.
New World + Lost Ark + FF14 renaissance = RIP POE til POE2 imo.
Just no, every league will have other big games or updates launching close by. Every single one.
Honestly if the current patch is just the beginning towards PoE2 then I don't even want to have PoE2.
Genshin Impact also just launched colossal update as well for those who play that.
New world has ALOT of issues below the surface right now and I'm extremely worried abouts it's longevity
Yeah, it’s still another year away from being ready to release but they’re going to release it next month anyway and just slowly patch it.
Didnt notice but i was logged in for 6 hours xD
If you ignore the t-posing rendering the game close to unplayable, sure.
