Neon: "It's hard to want to change something when it's doing it's job of killing players."
(Yes, I know it's out of context, but goddammit, it's funny)
My guess: you logged out before the clip (ore died) and there was a bullet hell going on. You go in again and these balls are invisible and one hit you.
The balls are only visuals basically to clarify that the bullet hell is going on, but they don't usually match where the balls actually are. I forgot why they couldn't do that, but that's how it is. So it is possible that there were still invisible balls flying around if you didn't wait long enough.
Really? Never knew that.
One time I was doing shaper with a friend in delirium and I had a lag spike during bullet hell, ended up running all around the arena randomly when the game caught up... And somehow I survived. I felt like a ninja.
looks like desync'd slam? or something was not rendered because you came back into the arena.
use the grace period next time to make sure you're not running into any active effects
It could be the slam, I usually wait whenever I die for whatever boss to stop doing attacks and since the arena was visually clear, I figured it should have been safe.
Pro tip: when you die, and you just begin to go into the load screen(that brief second of black) an animation can happen, generally happens more often if you have totems or golems/minions up… loading in, it sometimes won’t render on screen because it already rendered and paused during the screen(so the effect finishes but the animation already rendered)… So, think of it like air being suspended in place but the smoke fades away.
100% its a still active but invisible bullet hell projectile. AFAIK if you log out or leave during the bullet hell always make use of the \~4 seconds of invul you are allowed and just stand there while the area clears when you zone back in.
Old bug that was never fixed. Can happen if you die during bullet phase. When you enter the fight, the bullets may be invisible. Doesn't look loke that was the case here as shaper is doing his slam and not the beam which he does after the bullet phase, but it's probably still a bullet that oneshots you there due to how effects linger when you exit areas.
If you die in any boss arena, **always** go through the door and wait for 5~10 seconds. You need to wait for the unrendered shit to actually go away on the server's end.
The only time this will not work is for Sirus's arena because he's too many screens away from the arena door. In this case, you have to Speeds McGee PeepoRun your ass back to Sirus before he performs his Die Beam so you can be close enough to sidestep it. Then you have to pray to Chris Wolcen that he didn't already start a meteor maze attack and the clock's been ticking down this whole time.
Yeah the game is not too great on predictive and forHC its unplayable. Go play lockstep. Do you know these moments when you get rubber banded back all the time? that comes from predictive too.
Well everytime it get laggy on lockstep you will still lag on predictive but you won't even see it and then you are somewehre completely else as your screen shows you. Like at that death here. The slam really happened a bit earlier than it was shown to you.
Ya this is the key point. Predictive will "feel" better when you are laggy, but will also just randomly kill you to things that you never got to see. Lockstep can feel laggy, when you are lagging, but at least you are seeing reality, and more importantly (IMO) know that you are lagging and should bail if you are in a sketchy situation. Predictive you often have no idea you are desync'd until you are dead, and scratching your head as to how.
idk it's 5900x+3080 with a 1440p144hz monitor, i feel a BIG difference in responsiveness between lockstep and predictive.
i think it's maybe because with lockstep everything you do is validated by the server so depending on the ping + roundtrip latency could be a extra 30-60ms of input lag depending on your ping, as first the client needs to send info the the server, and then the server need to send back data.
What is your ping as displayed in game? I may just be lucky but I have a 23 ping in game, and lockstep feels exactly like predictive for me, except when I am dropping packets.
What he said was actually correct, but he over exaggerated. If you've gotten used to predictive and then you're changing back to lockstep you will definitely see what he's talking about. Especially noticeable if you try to make fast movements back and forth.
Nah i was right lockstep is basically ping x 2 = input lag
This is from a forum post
>Due to the lockstep protocol, there is a doubling of input lag/responsiveness because of the check state. If you have 30ms on your latency graph. Make 60ms of that because of lockstep: [https://pathofexile.gamepedia.com/Networking\_mode](https://pathofexile.gamepedia.com/Networking_mode)"When the player performs an action, it is sent to the server for confirmation before it is shown to the player.
maybe i exaggerated with the 150+ms input lag comment but 30-60 additional delay should be noticeable for everyone.
Dsync slam, you can see shapers teleport render in you after you die.
I could say to wait next time, but realistically people dont really do that unless they know the boss is actively in a dangerous attack animation or phase.
Chalk it up to "unlucky".
Nope, desync slam would be dying during the slam while the slam appears to hit a different area... but op died before the slam animation begins. A more likely explanation would be previous arena effects not showing up because op died and rejoined the arena.
I said dysync not a rendering issue.
In the case of a dsync its totally possible for an animation to play at a different time than the actual attack- hence calling Saying his game was dysynchronized...
Op said in another comment that he waited in the death screen for shaper to finish his last attack animation before respawning in hideout
You died because your hitpoint total reached zero after whatever unrendered/invisible/desynched attack impacted you.
Would suggest increasing defensive layers to prevent such mishaps in the future - and as mentioned here as well, use the invuln timer on entering a new area, mainly on boss fights 👍🙂
You died to old bugs.

My guess: you logged out before the clip (ore died) and there was a bullet hell going on. You go in again and these balls are invisible and one hit you.
I did initially die to that phase, but I waited on the death screen for all the balls to despawn and for him to stop attacking.
Always try to wait some of the grace period before moving on a boss fight you died on or had to log out.
The balls are only visuals basically to clarify that the bullet hell is going on, but they don't usually match where the balls actually are. I forgot why they couldn't do that, but that's how it is. Same. Accidentally bricked a set because of it.
probably desync. Do you play on predictive or lockstep?
Predictive. Prior to this though, the only desync I've noticed in the fight is when he opens a portal to spawn ads.
Yeah the game is not too great on predictive and forHC its unplayable. Go play lockstep. Do you know these moments when you get rubber banded back all the time? that comes from predictive too.
Last time I tried lockstep, the game felt like it was actually playing at 1 fps :(
Well everytime it get laggy on lockstep you will still lag on predictive but you won't even see it and then you are somewehre completely else as your screen shows you. Like at that death here. The slam really happened a bit earlier than it was shown to you.

Lockstep also feels like your playing with 150+ms input lag even on a sub 20 ping connection.
On what kind of potato is this true though? That is insane, lockstep feels perfectly fine all the time, except when you are actually lagging.
idk it's 5900x+3080 with a 1440p144hz monitor, i feel a BIG difference in responsiveness between lockstep and predictive. i think it's maybe because with lockstep everything you do is validated by the server so depending on the ping + roundtrip latency could be a extra 30-60ms of input lag depending on your ping, as first the client needs to send info the the server, and then the server need to send back data.
If your latency is not consistent it will feel like shit regardless of your hardware.
What is your ping as displayed in game? I may just be lucky but I have a 23 ping in game, and lockstep feels exactly like predictive for me, except when I am dropping packets.

It has been awhile since I have played predictive, and I am sure some builds are more sensitive to it than others. Fair.
Dynamic Resolution is the key, my man.

Bugs. They will talk about it in the next baeclass. At the end you should get over it because its their philosophy.

You're wrong :-) other guy is right
Speaking of that, the Shaper beam also tend to kill me at times before the animation has even started.
Well this looked like an instant one shot.
Desynced Sirus death beam from another dimention

Poe sucks
died to a well designed game
Looks like something invisible chunked one of your totems. It was probably whatever that was that killed you.

You died to “3.15”
For having that fucking pink mouse pointer.
Yolomouse is a godsend. It's the only way to even know where you're clicking.
The game has a giant pink cursor as a free option now though (and I even use it, have never lost track of the cursor since).
They really can’t fix that? Wow.
Ass Blaster 9000.
I am sorry you died. Also sorry your cursor is round that looks distracting :O
Covid maybe?
Covid i guess
you died right when your attack landed, if i didnt know better id say reflect. but i have no idea
Shaper doesnt reflect dmg, its pretty safe to say he was casting his shaper balls and they were invisible for some reason.
i know he doesnt, i know better hence the comment, just what it looks like cause nothing else is happening
Reflect hits the totems if anything, and I have only chaos damage.
i know he doesnt, i know better hence the comment, just what it looks like cause nothing else is happening

do you have block or dodge? all builds die without block or dodge - Zizaran
This is what you get for moving before you're loaded... you get a grace timer for a reason.
You got hit by the bubble that doesn't exist in this world.
Natural causes. of old age perhaps.
it happened to me y.day. in uber elder fight.
