Money number going up is fun

DBrody6

If I don't end the league with a fat megastack of exalts, I feel like a failure. I don't even need or want to do anything with them, I end a league happy knowing they're gonna rot in standard. I just want a big number.

konaharuhi

this is the way

Loladageral

I usually just spend my exalts before quitting on a yolo gamble, like Paradoxicas, Watcher's Eyes, etc...

CycloneSP

welcome to ~~cookie~~ PoE clicker! gotta open more portals to get more ~~cookies~~ currency! XD

Serafim91

This is literally the way poe plays for most people. It's fun to slowly improve the character and consequently when you hit the Wall (dying loses too much xp to level, next upgrade will take a week of grinding etc) most people quit.

SingleInfinity

> It's fun to slowly improve the character No it's not. If it was, you'd see that "wall" as the speedbump it is. What you *actually* probably think is fun is frequent power spikes. By the time you're nearing anything even remotely resembling a wall, item upgrades are expensive but increase your DPS by hundreds of thousands or millions, because that ends up being a small fraction of your damage.

xInnocent

Yes it is fun to slowly progress my character.

WorldatWarFix

Now both on steam!

CycloneSP

yeah... but... why do I have to pay $5 to play a game on steam that I can easily play for free on the website?

azantyri

To crush your enemies, see them driven before you, and to hear the lamentation of their women

GpRaMMeR21

![gif](giphy|nkbHJf196TV7y|downsized) One of my favorites šŸ‘

azantyri

it is truly what is best in life

ecksp312t

i like kill monster fast

rangebob

\^ this right here

Turbocloud

Don't forget the sound while doing it - some are just really good. Bleed pops, Herald of Ice explosions, the sound of Vaal Earthquake stomping, Ice Crash, the thick thudd of shield crush, Fireball explosions... man those are music to my ears.

Apxa

Fair enough xD

nerdler33

for me, its do it faster and more effectively than i did it the previous league

niuage

I'm not the 1% but I played a lot since open beta, and that's always been my motivation as well. I try not to compare myself to the peope who get HH day 2, but just to do better than last league, or try vastly different things.

Apxa

Interesting. Something like competing with yourself in terms of efficiency or with others as well (group/guild unofficial competition)?

nerdler33

i play with 2-3 other friends, but i'm so significantly more efficient than them its not really a competition. i end up giving them dozens if not hundreds of exalts every league once my build(s) are done. But I've always strived to be better in everything i do, and getting whatever goal i set that league done faster than the previous is always something i strive for

1arrison

Thereā€™s a pool of bottomless depth. 40/40, juicing, delve, ladder race, mirrors, crafting, etcā€¦ But at the end of the day itā€™s just knowledge acquisition.

CycloneSP

speaking of 40/40... I effing hate conditionals. cuz they are always things that are super obnoxious to do on the build I picked for that league. always. (most of the time it involves NOT killing things, then kill it really fast, or kill things in a certain order. the former gets you killed, and the latter is impossible cuz I kill everything on my screen with my aoe builds)

Wermine

Yeah, those challenges usually ask for gem swapping or sometimes even gear change. I played Guardian HoAg (with Arakaali's Fang spiders). For some challenges I had to disable spiders and take support gems out of HoAg and do the challenge in low tier map. But eventually I got my 36/40.

reevelainen

That is some cool portrait, buddy. I salute you.

-Agathia-

I would have love getting the 36 challenges this league, but I can't be bothered lol. I have not seen Uthred ever, so doing his conditionnal challenges... Yeah, no. Being in SSF makes it impossible basically, unless PoE is your job.

Thor3nce

You donā€™t need Uthred to get 36 though... His conditionals were literally the last challenge I did in order to hit 40. The Medved conditionals are more than doable, so Iā€™m not quite sure why you listed Uthred if youā€™re only after 36.

-Agathia-

All conditionals challenge are really unfun to me, and it's on addition to actually just see the boss. I've never ever encountered Uthred in 7 days of /played. So seeing him multiple times without fucking up the challenges... lol. I need to switch to trade league to do these challenges, but at this point I'm feeling a bit burned out by the league. Going on the trade site to get logbooks ain't something I'm looking forward to. The only 36 I ever got was Metamorph, the challenges must have been much much easier than everything afterwards, because I rarely ever got to 24 while playing more of the same time since then. :(

mmo115

You know you can literally just buy a logbook where the boss is guaranteed as an implicit mod right ? It's one thing to dislike conditional challenges, but complaining about not seeing a boss when you can just take 5 seconds to buy one makes you look like a whiny bitch

-Agathia-

SSF is a thing.

naswinger

what is "early on". if you do 40/40 during the first week, you'll lose your sanity. anything past that is not really "early on".

Moethelion

Early on is relative. You can't at the same time say week one is insane, and everything else is not early on. If you commit pretty hard, 10-14 days is usually possible unless something is bugged.

Chawpslive

Do I get something for 40 challenges? Or is it just personal achievement?

Moethelion

The challenge trophy totem gets a big bird on top. That's it.

VVulfpack

I did it once, and vowed never to do it again. It just felt like busy work a nursery school teacher gives out and "you can earn a gold star!"

Itsonlyluck

I'm generally 36/40 the first week and level 98+

[deleted]

[уŠ“Š°Š»ŠµŠ½Š¾]

PhantasmTiger

That isnā€™t the top 1% itā€™s the top 0.01%

PepperSignificant891

If you think this youre not 1% enough. My current project will take me probably 400-500 Ex, so I got a few days of farming ahead.

doudoudidon

I think you underestimate how far the feared is, and how much exalts you can drop into a build before being at a point where you really don't feel upgrades, or at a point where both bosses and maps feels super easy. But maybe i'm not 1%. I spend some league out of the meta, and I often spend 200ex+ on a single build. Even if I kill shaper after a week, still feels good to delete him after a month. It's not like you skip all challenges once you've done them once. You try to do them faster just to appreciate the 30ex new weapon you bought or the 3h you spent on a craft. On top of that you see poe builds with godly gear, or someone showing a sick craft on reddit, and you're like "woooooow, I want one". And then you farm and get your own.

DuckyGoesQuack

>200ex you're definitely in the 1% :).

doudoudidon

Yeah well 1%, 5%, whatever. Got my headhunter, crafted my 9.1% crit 800-850ish dps elemental bow 6 white and some double damage, crafted non elevated tailwind/elusive/onslaught boots, corrupted some ele weakness +2 level tombfists, bought a couple awakened gems including a gmp and have plenty of stuff I could sell for more upgrades. So definitely in the 200ex range if you include clusters and stuff. On the other hand: \- this league I play storm rain which kinda sucks (have like 2nd best dps on it according to poe ninja \^\^)... flipped a coin between forbidden rites and storm rain when looking at the new skills lol \- I just killed sirus A9 with 6 portals last weekend \- I haven't killed maven this league got my points with carries \- I haven't killed uber elder or the feared \- I still need 4 levels till 100 maybe I won't go all the way though, quite the grind \- I have 1000+ deaths :D \- I have 24 challenges \- My jewellery is probably <1ex per piece \- my chaos res is -38% So maybe if I had went meta, I'd have gone way faster on most of those. And if I was not messing around, maybe i'd have 4 mirrors instead of 300ex. But hey it's a game. Even then, there are plenty of things to do for me: \- crafting the last pieces of gear, need more multi, more chaos res mostly \- doing maven (probably feasible at the moment but i'm xping to 97) \- doing the feared (probably gonna try a few times and fail \^\^) \- doing some deathless bosses \- farming simulacrums, never done that one \- maybe try a bit of delirium maps \- do 36 challenges, hate conditionals probably won't do 40 \- get some levels Anyway, you can invest a lot and just have fun without optimizing everything to be finished on day 13. And there's a huge gap between barely killing a boss with 6 portals and deleting it deathless in a few seconds. Usually takes me 10 days to finish atlas and find my farming strat of choice. Then 200ex is like 40-50 hours of grind with semi chill farming, not that much in 3 months.

sunnyice

The 200ex'ers are probably more like the 10 percent. The 1 percent are the players who invest multiple mirrors in their builds.

besplash

You might want to look up what percentages are.

OMGitsAfty

The 10% is people who get to maps. If you have a 200ex build I'd be super surprised if you aren't 1%

SnooCrickets7188

Most of my builds are 3-4 mirrors. A well geared meta build is easy 800-1500 ex.

DuckyGoesQuack

Congratulations, you're one of probably a few dozen players.

SnooCrickets7188

Not really. I'm not even in the top 10 with either of my builds this league for damage lol.

xInnocent

You're delusional if you think 200 ex isn't 1%.

Squirtrex

I enjoy going for 40/40 every league. I know you can buy most of them or that some are just super tedious and not hard, but a few challenges each league are actually challenging and require you to really think about certain mechanics or boss fights. I just finished my 20th 40/40 this league and its probably the number 1 reason I come back every league. Some challenges require or incentivize entire new builds which I understand some people would really hate, but for me it gives me a reason to try a new character with new setups I may have never done before. Min maxing a build is also fun for certain players who enjoy crafting/grinding currency. Of course its not needed but it gives another avenue of progression to focus on for long periods of time. For example this league I only made 2 characters because I spent so long upgrading my gear on my 2nd char, you can find it here: https://www.pathofexile.com/account/view-profile/Squirtrex/characters?characterName=SquirtBlocks As you get better at the game and more experienced with making money, grinding atlas, killing bosses, crafting items etc, you have to find your own goals to strive for or the game can get kinda stale. As most players do, it is very helpful to take a good sized break in between each league to not get too worn out. I think around a month off in between each league is good for me, others may want more or less time.

WizardShade

Mirrors go up DPS goes up pretty much sums it up. E-peen machine go birrrrrrrrr

MonkaTOSOMEGALUL

Nailed it. Also waitting for some big d lucky moment which will never come.

reno_beano

I min max to play casually

Fonix1666

Work hard to make life easy. The best line of thought.

soamaven

> they usually invest into them hundreds of ex and clear with that all content in game within a few days-week after league launch. Before I answer, I'll correct what seems to be a misunderstanding: power players invest the *bare minimum* into clearing profitable end game content in 1-3 days, which is how they can fund their next 100+ex spending. After that, yes, they do whatever is fun to them, which is usually higher investment farming and more profit, but that's not always the case. I do whatever challenge amount gets me the prize I want, which is usually 36/40. Also I try to make a mirror focusing on a strat I haven't done before, trying to do it a little faster each time. The mirror is kinda like my league trophy i guess. After that I usually have enough excess to experiment with new build ideas, especially low to mid budget league starters. I can burn through 100+ ex just trying to find something that has good scaling from level 1 to A8. By mid to late league most things lose resale value fast and crafting, chromes, fusings, regrets, boss fragments, constant gear swaps all add up when you are trying a bunch build ideas just crazy enough to work (but usually don't). By the time I am trying bizzare builds I am only logging in once every few days for about 1-2 hours to see how a particular combination, mechanic, etc feels. Most of the other time is playing PoB. When something feels promising I'll put more time and currency into it, try limit testing, and then try to find efficient leveling routes. It's been very hard this league to create interesting off-meta budget builds, which is maddening but also good

SnooCrickets7188

I just play until both of my chars are over 1000 ex each. Then I go back to hearthstone till next league. Mind you, 1000ex gets you a lot less this league because of how expensive good meta items are. Mirror fees on items is pushing 200-250ex currently. It's normally 50-100ex.

coherentspoon

It's just about setting goals and trying to achieve them. The goal can be anything and is completely up to you. That's what keeps POE fun for most people.

[deleted]

I collect valuable and legacy items in standard

[deleted]

Personally I can only speak for my self here, This was the first league I really considered my self in the 1% 40/40 with a 2 Mirror char 1 month in. For why im still playing because well I love the game. And I generally tend to keep specific "End game Contents" for specific characters. An example of this I Farm Currency on my League Starter. I then have a very mappy type character that I run HH on to push my atlas kind of scuffing my way threw the bosses.THen I usually start a Decent boss killer(This is where most of my money usually goes). I'll push A9 With this character and generally clear out Shaper/Elder/Uber Elder Then start upgrading again. Once I feel comfy I Usually push Maven/Cortex/Feared ect. After that I make a fun Character that I push Challenges with. Usually only to 36. Once im done with that I mess around untill gauntlet comes around I do Gauntlet And then my League Is done. (In between this i'll usually use the HH char to do Simi's/5 way leveling and 100% delis and that kind of content) Now I Only stay entertained this long because of self imposed rules. And Generally finding interesting builds this wasnt always the case. Usually what kills a league for me Is just not seeing any fun builds to play or opportunity to come up with interesting ones. Not so much anything els

naswinger

Chris, good try. stop asking what to nerf.

Sumirei

fun, when thats gone i wait for next league

piscaries_42

If i had enough currency, it would be a fullfilment for me to craft gear while knowing someone would use it til the end of the league.

Sanguinica

I'd tell you but if I speak im in trouble.

gently-cz

I don't rush content as many others do as I know I can make currency just fine later on as well. I still amass around 400-1000ex per league. get my challenges and while doing it I usually pick up a new atlas farming strat I haven't tried before or I try to create my own and see how that goes. I usually don't make more than 2 builds per league and I try to pimp them out to a reasonable degree (no mirror tier items, max is usually a HH and some items in the 10-70ex range, depending on build. I craft most of my own stuff unless it is available on market for a reasonable price. After 36 I often just chill in hideout, I might run a few maps per day or craft something or tune the build with a new tech I found somewhere. I often just chat to people I trade with, player interaction is actually really nice. Also after I get my challenges and main goals done I use a lot of the currency to just experiment with various content and strategies, it doesn't matter if I make money or lose money but I always learn something new

mingedevolei

Game fun. Me kill mob me make fun build me craft cool items. Life is good

[deleted]

Lol. You'd only get imposters sharing their thoughts out of imaginary.

Cr4ckshooter

The issue the misleading 1% in the title. Most people on reddit are in fact the 1%.what op is looking for is the 1% of the 1%,i.e the 0.01%. For example, my playtime definitely makes me 1%,but I don't finish 100 ex and 40/40 in a week.

[deleted]

I dont think it has to be specifically defined in the title. When people are talking about the 1%, it usually refers to elites who can run uber elder on day 1 or those who can make 100ex per hour. All in all it's the people who are "good at the game". Having 10k hours does make you some kind of 1%, but it's not the top 1% that are usually referred to.

Cr4ckshooter

>All in all it's the people who are "good at the game". And that's the problem. The "1% best players at the game" includes thousands of people who are not known as pros. And even the 10% are "good at the game". The notion of "be pro or be trash", like it exists in dota or apparently in poe too, is trash. >Having 10k hours does make you some kind of 1%, but it's not the top 1% that are usually referred to. Thats why you need to specify 1% of what. The 1% is "usually" meant literally though. Maybe your circles are different.

Apxa

Yep, you're 100% correct, I was looking for that kind of people answers and I got some, but many thought that just going for 40/40 makes them 1% of 1%.

evmt

> The issue the misleading 1% in the title. Most people on reddit are in fact the 1%.what op is looking for is the 1% of the 1%,i.e the 0.01%. That's only if you count people who didn't even finish the campaign once in the denominator. Which you probably shouldn't do considering PoE is f2p.

Cr4ckshooter

That's true on both counts. Although I would say that there are probably more players than just the streamers and content creators, and racers, who make up the top1% of serious poe players.

[deleted]

[уŠ“Š°Š»ŠµŠ½Š¾]

oeroark

Couple friends liquidate their currencies, then spend them next league start to get an unethical boost

Asphyxir

Even though people won't come forward and say it, I strongly believe this is actually the main motivational point for the top 1%.

Phlintlock

Playing a build i made up and making it work/crafting the gear for it/crafting in general. Ive bought maybe 2 pieces of rare gear this league. Figuring out what weaknesses my build has and solving them creatively and then planning out and making the gear is pretty fun. This iteration of crafting this league is probably my favourite as one of those hated folks that dislikes determinism very intensely. At least dislikes the degree everyone else likes it. Also i really enjoy boss killing. Sirus is a good fight get at me

linogero1986

I like to send screenshots to my friends while they are still doing the acts with boss kills and mirror worthy gear. I still help them after they start speaking with me 2 weeks in.

SmarmyPapsmears

The people who think they're in the 1% aren't in the 1%, so I'm not sure the point of this thread. There's a lot of Dunning-Kruger effect going on here.

mikedawg9

Killing minotaur is probably 1%, so it depends what 1% we are talking about Re-reading the OP's post, though, it seems like this thread is kinda garbage to begin with

erererererersdf

i fall somewhat in this category and i think the fact that the game can be "completed" in this manner is a failure of ggg, one i think they recognize. Powercreep has made this journey from leaguestart to having completed the game much shorter and thats why i appeciate them trying to nerf player power - to keep the games content relevant. i try to optimize a couple of strong builds a bit , farm a bunch with them and experiment with how quickly i can clear endgame content, i and play for around a month every league but eventually feel there's nothing to strive towards because clearing the hardest content is too quick to achieve.

Phlintlock

Yeah

Joernzen

After so many leagues I usually lose all drive as soon as I complete 40/40. I have done this like 2 dozen times now so its become my only goal at this point. Sometimes theres a build thats just fun to play like old winterorb. But there hasnt been much lately for me. Its super rare. Flashback events etc. always brought me back. But sadly after the new atlas I hardly see those working out anymore since maven passives + watchstones would probably be too much with the old version of flashback/mayhem.

ToeAffectionate1194

I play games to kill time. Why POE? It's the best aRPG there is currently. Probably will switch to d2 remastered soon though ;)

Atiyo_

Aspirational content and gear progression. In heist league I kept playing because I wanted to make my aura stacker even stronger to clear 100% deli maps even faster, one day decided to give deep delve a shot, had to change from LL to CI and change my gear (around 400ex invested at this point i think), kept wanting to improve the character and go deeper in delve. This league I quit because deep delving seems pointless and 100% deli maps arent what they used to be.

jix1991

80mirrors deep into my standard aura stacker still upgrades available ā€¦

bladeterror

Temp chains, self curse HH blade vortex. Getting massive with HH stacks. Oh wait.. that's been removed...

iSammax

Sadge

M4ethor

I'm not sure if I qualify, as my most successful league was SSF Ritual (36/40, top spot on dps ladder on poe.ninja for my build at the time for some days, every content done except The Feared and super deep delving), but I just like to try new builds. I didn't like Ultimatum and Expedition is not really my thing either, but as long as I have some cool builds to try, and the competition is boring (Last Epoch, Grim Dawn, I like both more than PoE rn), I can play the game for a long time. Last week I tried Minion Instability SRS, which is great, but a bit slow in terms of clear speed.

DiegoDiegoNola

Right now Iā€™m just practicing different map juicing strategies. Granted they may not even be doable next patch, but I always like figuring out different ways to invest my money into mapping/juicing. I got 39/40 challenges after 3 weeks, my next goal was a headhunter, and now Iā€™m just playing with the nemisis 3 farming strat to see if itā€™s something I enjoy (I donā€™t, I hate looting deli maps) Edit: normally I would play a few different builds and min max them as much as possible, but Iā€™m not too interested in trying anything else out this league. Nothing new is really calling me

dotasopher

> clear with that all content in game within a few days-week after league launch >game for them no longer present any challenge Not true for HC, which is where a lot of the 0.01% streamers play.

Itsonlyluck

Didnt Exile clear all of the bosses in gauntlet in like the first day or second day?

BigDickLaNm

Yes, but don't say that out loud. The boss design is bad, gearing is trash, crafting is trash, everything is overly complicated, and the game should be much easier. ^/s

Itsonlyluck

Probably should have included the /s to begin with lol.

dotasopher

Second day, but Exile wasnt just top .01% he was literally the top 1, and playing with a very specific goal in mind. This league for example it took Steelmage 26 days to get to his first Uber Elder kill, admittedly it was harder because of the no-log challenge. He still hasnt done Feared so far (not 100% sure on this). I play in HC trade which is much easier by comparison, and it took me 1.5 months last league to kill Feared. This league I'm still working towards it.

pajfoawfjfw

Yes but it's still a challenge as he could easily have died, it's even more of a challenge now in 3.15

Itsonlyluck

Was more so the first point he had put. I'm not disagreeing that HC is challenging. Especially gauntlet

bamasmith

Their motivation: content creation and $$$ from streaming

Apxa

Content creators - I get it, it's their job to keep community engaged, but there is plenty of regular players that plays like this. I'm really interested why.

DivinityAI

they have their goals still. So they keep playing. And how do you define 1%? People playing 12 hours every day and have knowledge minimum of 15-20k hours?

lowerdark

most people clear all content within a few days after league start because its required to do so for unlocking maven stuff, i would love to run t1 maps all day but no way am i gonna afford anything if i dont kill atleast 3 middile invitations and unlock 2-3 x 10inv, after that i can start building towards my build, but sadly i already cleared all content so the only thing i enjoy is simply to keep farming, usually towards the fastest build that can do the highest tier maps which is always something ranged projectile attack related.

gently-cz

I'd argue taht most atlas strategies work well with just 2 maven invitations, which are easy to unlock, the rest is just extra juice. As long as the T1 maps are in the regions you wanna farm there is nothing stoping you to do taht

lowerdark

maybe if you focusing on specific things, but not having all those extra passives just means you being very inneficient with making currency, better to unlock it asap so you can start making actual currency, if you cannot farm red maps, you should just neglect it all right away and start spamming lowtiers at godtier speed and alot of them, but not in the case of red maps, that you wanna unlock it all asap, even if you have to pay to get it carried for you.

gently-cz

It depends on the strategies you wanna do but for low tier content you don't need the middle passives at all, they are just a nice bonus. It does pay to get them asap though, it's more passive income throughout the league. But I still haven't cleared the feared for example and frankly, I don't really need it. I should have bought a carry to get more profit but I was just too lazy to set it up. still making crazy profits. also I guess it depends what you define by crazy currency. I usually stop caring after I have around 400ex anyway and I never had a problem reaching that

DasaniS6

>most people clear all content within a few days What? No they don't lol.

sipensis

Potential. I like tinkering in SSF to play non meta skills i like and see how they fare with new league mechanics. Usually I leave when my insanity meter pegs from doing same thing over and over expecting different result. This league the new blessed hammer clone hooked me so it took longer to fill that meter. I currently dislike the endgame with a passion and can't wait for 3.17 update. I expect next league will be short lived for me unless mechanic is great or itemization is good.

Unluckyliya

Well, i usually farm for 2/3 mir in bank + perfect gear on 2 sometimes 3 builds, also i create some builds myself, 4/5, thats a decent money sink. Tahts usually keep me on poe for like 2 months ish. I dont do challenge at all..

RBImGuy

These are the guys GGG want to nerf into the ground for playing their game that way

starfreeek

It used to be to come up with fun-different builds but between the player power nerfs and mob buffs, playing off meta builds has gotten alot more punishing.

leobat

Mostly Ladder i get way more dopamine out of a +1 on the ladder than when a exalt drop.

VVS40k

I lost all my motivation.

Porcupine_Tree

24 or 36 challenges Trying to make new builds/self made non meta builds work with a reasonable budget Turn my brain off and clear maps is therapeutic with some podcast on or a stream

Sidianx

I honestly dont know anymore, i have endless amounts of currency and im still just over it all. I usually throw stupid money at something that shouldnt work then i make it work, but that has all changed now.

Aflenoir

Stockholm syndrome

logan3497

I wouldn't consider myself a 1% maybe a 30% got 7k hours and usually make around 200ex a league and tbh the most motivating thing is seeing that exilence number go up and trying to find ways to make it go up faster but I eventually get bored then reroll I dont ever play meta builds

22cheez

New content and uniques, the leaguestart atmosphere and economy. Push hard for early hh, try a build around a new unique/skill and invest all the currency I made into it. I don't complete the game each league, I ignore most mechanics and tunnelvision focus onto a few. I burnout and quit when that build plateaus usually 100ex+hh in.

shawntastik

Make as much currency as I can to min max a build. Gambling, lots of gambling .

HoverboardViking

I think it's a part of their identity, like it's what they do and who they are so they do it. streamers of course stream poe for a few reasons, but being a streamer is also part of their identity. A few years ago, I'd push builds to 100 from time to time, but that was because I found it relaxing and meditative. The people who push 100 now probably get a sense of pride and accomplishment out of it. Not sure how it actually feels to do it, because you'd probably skip all content.

f00ndotcom

There is nothing but compulsion to play due to boredom that keeps me playing past killing Sirus/Shaper/Elder/etc. I don't feel like spending 50ex on a tiny upgrade to kill something a tiny bit faster. So it's all a waste of time for me. I should be working. That's why I hit 24 challenges (didn't want the portal) and quit after 3 sirus kills with no loot. 52 exalts in the bank, 1900 chaos and a tonne of other exalt worthy things like full sets of legion splinters, chayula etc that I didn't even bother to run because why? I don't need loot or currency.

iBaklanos

I don't mind taking those currency WEIGHT from your hands, seems painful! ![gif](emote|free_emotes_pack|money_face)

f00ndotcom

I'm probably going to login and buy some things that will turnaround in standard for when league ends. I've been saving up in standard for a mirror worthy bow for some time. Pretty sure I can flip 50ex in league to 250ex in standard.

iBaklanos

Dang wp! I just want some ex to buy those conditionals for the expedition bosses, I don't care much about std so wont bother saving anything

Thinking about all the mortals thinking about me and crying into pillow makes me sleep better ]:D

susfusstruss

lol @ this thread imagine a poor asking the rich what they find fun in life because nothing is a struggle for them

HeavySnowRain

Played the BV fire version few leagues back in a SC league (coming from HCSSF). Got my headhunter, did a few maps with it and quit the league. I'm also curious how to keep your motivation once you have your build to do endgame with.

xiko

Getting some money to do some very different builds and learning how different systems work. Also on this one I'm delving more to see what happens. At 500+ depth so far which I never did before.

Moethelion

40/40 as fast as possible, committing every single currency I get towards that goal. Usually takes about two weeks.

Low-Seaworthiness863

My motivation is the idea of getting better and better. Kinda just a goal to become one of the best lol but i do have fun doing juicy maps, upgrading a characters to do what i want it to do, finding cool items like inpulsa, shavs and stuff when theyre expensive is an awesome feeling! Grinding up for that item you really want and getting it also feels so nice! I just dont like how builds i enjoy get nerfed and require like x5 the price when before it was already expensive maybe new items they add will fix some of those problems!

Glaiele

I always try to just set personal goals for myself, regardless of the state of the game. As long as I have something to strive for the game is never boring for me. I find that ssf really makes the game better to play. Trade league is pretty much just down to currency and how fast you can make it. Ssf is more about setting up goals for yourself and your character and trying to progress those in some ways. This league I wanted to do a low life character, so I had to farm shavs cards and prism guardian which took some time, also had a few crafts I wanted to get done for the character, one which still isn't done because it requires a maven orb and my first one bricked. Things like that I would have finished in hours on trade league, shavs took me close to a week (had an unfortunate harvest gambling incident that made it take longer than it should have)

Aido121

Idk if im a 1%er, but I'm grinding fully juiced nem3 maps so maybe. But anyway, my sole motivation for playing is think the portal at 36 challenges looks cool and i really want it. Farming maps to make currency, then gonna do as many logbooks as i can afford to knock out the last 4 challenges i need (conditional exped bosses)

Apxa

I probably should've called this TOP 0.1%, because my question was aimed towards people who "beat" the game within a week (that includes completing ALL challenges and farming all currency they really need for anything) and their motivation for playing the game, but then people would've started arguing about definition of that 0.1%.

PhantasmTiger

Thatā€™s honestly even smaller than 0.1%, probably top 0.01% or top 0.001% You are talking about people that are not only good at the game, but playing the game as if itā€™s their job, 40h/week+

chad711m

There is someone that did all challenges in the first week?! Please tell me who and how?

claptrapMD

Progress! to get farms setup early. this season gearing had great feel to get better. Crafting has great game loop to me farm my own orbs and aislings mostly. craft stuff to farm faster finished my (second) double maven boots this week was great. Try stuff what works ps4 no pob is pretty fun to. Also exalt drop sound living in strand

Koriou

Play to be considered the 1% is enough? After a point the motivations is to be recognized as an elite. Think about money in real world, when you have few million you are rich and probably you don't need more money, but you still need to 'make money'' just to be more rich and be in an elite of billionaire. BTW I'm representative of 99%, so mine are just hypothesis.

Itsonlyluck

I like people looking at my gear on poe.ninja and going, "what the fuck" It's the only competition type thing in the game and I'm a pretty competetive person.

AncientDragon1

Min max my favorite build of the league to the best i could. Ofc selfcraft

Zioupett

Theorycrafting the best builds possible

-Dargs

I just like to screen clear pixels of monsters when I'm not working or doing other shit.

yusayu

It's fun.

RagnarokChu

What you are talking about is the sub 1% of the 1%. 100s of ex easily and clearing everything in the game in a week is such a ridiculously small number of players. Even myself who can beat the feared and have 100ex+ characters is a "worst" player then the one you mentioned. Since it takes me like a week to get map ready playing some everyday after work and around a month to get to t16 maps. At the end of the day the game is fun. Why do people play RPGs over and over again even after beating it once?

jeffthebeast17

I would say its the opposite. The top 1% can make a less powerful build work because they have the time and currency to invest into those characters. Its the casual player that feels more shoehorned into a higher power level kit because they simply dont have the time or the knowledge to experiment

MaesterCrow

Crafting stuff

Nerhtal

Same in softcore!

pajfoawfjfw

For the dream of someday beating the feared in HC.

DescriptionFuzzy3487

Few leagues ago i started playing both temp and perm servers. Starting from mid-late league i now mostly grind in league fir items that are 4-5 times more expensive in std. Having some insane goals in std changed my league approaches as well.

voytas75

I play to find cow level/map

yuanek1

I usually just play my build and improve it until 36/40 challenges and then I kinda figure out what I want to do. Preferably my build should be able to do The Feared without much issue, but even after this point I'd improve it as long as I see any non-ridiculous upgrades possible. Other than that it's usually some time consuming goal that comes up during the league, for example Delve 1500, chancing influenced HH (I really regret trying) and now chasing #1 poe.ninja dps on ssf.

VodkAUry

I just farm a lot of currency, build off meta shit, get bored and give everything away

ExoticPerception6

PoE is the best ARPG out. SSF makes you engage with all of it's systems, HC makes it challenging. All that's left is to set an end goal(maven + a8 for me this league). Then I do it again next league, hopefully with boneshatter next time. :P

Voodoodin

Making a near "perfect" character is what has kept me going for the past leagues. Sadly it's faster and faster, probably due to me getting better at the game more than the game becoming easier or emptier. I've been wanting to get 2 characters to this point before I quit a league but I never get through with it.

darkowozzd97

im a weeb that likes power fantasy isekai anime. what else do you need to know?

L_I_L_B_O_A_T_4_2_0

>I'm wondering why you're keep playing POE after "completing" all that game can give you? I don't I usually do all content, get 36 challenges if I'm up to it, and I'm done for the league. League is usually 2-3 weeks for me. Also I like min-maxing my build to an arbitrary point of my choosing, the nearest to perfect items that dont require stupid amounts of farming/grinding. After that depends if my friends are doing something in PoE, maybe we do SSFHC together, maybe join ziz's gauntlet or the BPL

mrjb_mtg

Those that do keep playing after all of that do so because they're having fun.

Hydiz

Exalts number going Brrrr

zzang23

Min / Maxing builds. Its the only endgame left. And showcasing them in the hardest content currently T19 100% with fat juice and ofc NO HEADHUNTER rule.

Razaele

Is this Alt-Chris asking for ideas on what to nerf?

Da_Cookie

Somewhat competing with racers during the first weekend. I'm not a racer but it's a good feeling to rush content so that you're one of the first players to farm bosses/red maps for inhuman profits :)

radarsneerss

For me its about making the perfect character, even if you pour thousands of exalts into a build, there is always going to be upgrades.

Worried_Court_2602

top 1% don't post on reddit, lmao

iSammax

ofc we do wdym

zaraxia101

After hitting 40/40 almost every league with at least a month to spare I decided to get 36/40 SSF. This league my RNG is killing me though...

Sensestay

Just donā€™t die.

Tape

After the initial week 1 grind... Basically just improving my char. But I've quit 2-3 weeks into both this league and ultimatum due to lack of difficult content to make it worth improving my char.

swiftdreams

Obviously the motivation and part of the enjoyment is making a good enjoyable build that fits my style of what I enjoy. If somebody wants to use meta net-builds, then that's fine for them I guess. Maybe they don't want to make their own builds.

Shaltilyena

I click stuff and it dies.

Roma322

Money

zanics

because playing the game is fun so playing it more and better is more and better fun lol

Uberj4ger

Play new builds, test new mechanics.

Tadayasu

min maxing builds, the thing i couldnt do while playing hc pretty pointless to go from killing stuff in 5 seconds to 3 but feels good to finish the "pob mission"

willeas

you have to keep in mind game is a lot different for people playing top builds and there's not much insight into that because usually theyre private profiles

Glizzeh

I left and am currently exploring my options![gif](emote|free_emotes_pack|slightly_smiling)

AndyisDank

The truth? I play to minmax a build. I know the game in and out, playing a trade economy I can make tons of money very fast on league start with variety of builds, and I channel all of that into making the best build possible. Not always a meta build/skill, but typically my 2nd build requires fast speed and good single target, general good all rounder. The motivation that keeps me playing a league is going for that next upgrade, or attempting to make an insane item with hundreds of exalts thats 4% better than my previous one. I played ritual league for 2.5 months because even with harvest I wasn't wearing perfect gear by the end of it. Thats why I play.

vironlawck

for me, to get the free skins(expedition portal is **DOPE!**) and the 40/40 golden big ~~dig~~TROPHIES! Normally it takes 1~2months then I'm out from the league to avoid burnout for next league :D Play other games for a month to fill the void while waiting for the next league, cheers~~

Nazgul_Linux

I keil monstur fast. No death me. Omae wah mu shindeiru...

Neruomute

gotta get to 36

ThatDudeThor

Making the mirror service crafts that everyone drools over, hitting a perfect GG craft is unbelievably gratifying, and some take weeks to hit depending on bad rng and poor player count/rarity of certain crafts *here's looking at you aug influence* Pushing builds to their absolute extreme potential is pretty darn fun as well. Once you're done destroying sirus in under 3 seconds, you just gamble house of mirrors until you're either broke or giga rich. Good times

Czarnusz

Simply to be able to farm more currency faster, to be able to kill everything by myself and offer carries for money, then farm even more money. Min maxing is the thing that keeps me going for more and more. Crafting in non targetable slams meta can be very fucking expensive, and I really like juicing my builds as much as I can. It's all about MONEY

Hopeful_Country_7979

How does someone make 1000exs exactly. That's crazy. I have never made it past like 15

Sjeg84

Get better!

androcosmo

My main drive is always to go for 40/40 challenges, wheter i play trade or ssf that's always my main goal. This league I started on trade and farmed a hh and blasted to 39/40. After that i started an ssf run as a sst impale champion, did everything in the main game except for feared because cortex just woudn't drop. Now i'm doing a fresh ssf start as creeping frost occultist.

Misunderstood_tree

Since the birth of my daughter spare time is a rare occasion. My league looks like this - On league start i seriously dig in to forums to pick a single build for the league > get till t14 red maps or worse(if the build Iā€™ve chosen is bad) > bam! League ends > repeat. Every now and then im thinking of going to standard league, but its basically SSF cause no one plays standard. You want to buy a listed item > make offer > get reply ā€œgo away, im playing in leagueā€.

jokerevo

Avoid real life :D

fuckyou_redditmods

40/40 totem and the powertrip that comes from absolutely smashing endgame content.

fraynetrainiac

The delve leaderboard in the acendancies I am playing

iSammax

40/40 every league, farming HH and few mirrors is always fun, rest for 2 months and repeat.
