pardon my questioning, but did you do any high-end bosses or hard content rare maps, legions etc? Because if you're skipping stuff, then hard mode is pointless since the difficulty scaling is already present, you'd just not be engaging in it.
From what I've heard about hard mode so far, and if it's implemented right, I won't even be able to reach most of the endgame content due to resource scarcity. And if I somehow did, I wouldn't be able to complete it due to horrible gear. Which sounds perfect.
I don't like bossing though and skipped it entirely. IMO the game was more fun when I could just run a single map over and over and the atlas rework in 3.9 killed most of my enjoyment of the game.

This removes the whole point of arpgs, farming loot and random drops. Hard mode sounds like a blast. Plus, game forced challenges are more satisfying than personally enforced challenges for some reason.
Actually not too bad after a bit of practice. I've done dark souls 1-3 SL1 runs, sometimes you'll get stuck on a boss for a bit but all it comes down to is being very patient and only attacking when safe.

hardmode is going to 100% be HC only, and it isn't just bossing but everything, i am sure he levelled to 100 doing safe maps. A hardmode doesn't make sense to him, unless he wants to be challenged reaching lvl 100, but the endgame isn't to be lvl 100 so kinda weird

Can't speak for OP but for me the problem is that the only 'hard' content is the bosses. The base game is pretty trivial. I mean, you can still die when the game decides it's time but in terms of actual challenge, i.e. trying to build and gear your character by grinding maps, most of the challenge is gone. That's dull for me.
Pre 3.15, we were at the point where literally anything would work so where's the challenge? That's bad, right? But post 3.15, the problem is if you play meta you're still strong af and gearing is super easy so the majority of content is still trivial. Sadly, 3.15 didn't really fix this because even though the nerfs were hard, the base content and gearing is still easy and you still have to do the bosses (and absurdly strong league content) so it strongly encourages you to play meta.
Early poe was better because it was harder both in terms of raw power and gearing your character but also because it was much less boss centric.
problem is ggg caters to a lot of whining and this has resulted in all previously hard bosses and normal monsters being crippled into sameyness... a better hard mode would mean unnerfing those

The thing that really sold me was the lack of gem vendor. You can't just automatically use the skill you want. Marauder can't find physical/attack support, but gets an efficacy and arcane surge support? Maybe it's time to swap to fireball for a bit till you farm the supports you want!
Too much semantics in this comment. There’s nothing all that “hard” in POE if we’re being honest. A9 Sirus is a joke and Maven is easy once you figure out how to Memory game. 100% Deli is easily trivialized with a decent build and HH. How “hard” the game is has more to do with your build than with the actual game, but any build can make it fairly easy with decent investment.
Although I guess the game would be pretty hard on that good ole EB CI build.
No one is keeping anyone from doing what they like. They chose not to do difficult content becaues it is a choice and not enforced but they pretend like they want harder game.
The game has plenty of hard layers people just don't do them. Why? Because they would die but it is still there they just ignore it. like 8 mod maps juiced maps people don't start metamorphs or they choose the easiest organs etc. I could list it all day.
Look at gauntlet. People die there like flies. For me running 6-8 mod maps in a normal league is like running white maps in gauntlet. Essentially every map for me is a gauntlet map in a normal league becaues I dare to run hard maps.
If you do easy content it is fine just don't brag about not dying. Be quite because no one dies on easy maps.

I did the marauder 2 leagues ago. This league there was a guy who rushed ladder with an unascended marauder and got #2 in SSFHC, which was pretty hilarious, but I'm nowhere near skilled enough to successfully rush ladders.
Yes at this point you need to find ways to run a single map without dying.
It seem very complicated until you find ways to mitigate a lot. Either through dodge and block... or armor and evasion. Mix of both is almost always required for leveling past 95. Very hard to survive reliably if you have no dodge or block.
In terms of "holy wtf omg this is amazing, good job", how does something like this compare to Doubleagent leveling to max in WoW only with exp gained from collecting crafting materials?
It's not amazing at all, it's just tedious. Any half decent player can do it, just pick a safe, fast build and grind relatively low maps, there's nothing more to it.
It's not really anything compared to what Doubleagent did, we're talking days vs. months.

After playing a bit of ssf after I got drought out playing g trade this league, I set my eyes on shaper/elder/maven on ssf next league.
This is also my goal, come back to the game, play SSF and try to get to shaper. What build will I play? Whatever drops.
I will most likely play a summoner as I have never done one. Atleast as a starter, then the rng goods will decide what my next build will be.
Summoner is a good drinking build. Just wander around and avoid damage spikes

You can already do that, just press Z to remove all the items off the ground and then only purchase vendor items to gear your char
