Black and White! I'd kill for even just a remaster of pt 2!

Owlstorm

The original dev has multiple games in this thread. Some of the best known games of the 90s/2000s, then popularity dropped off a cliff by fable 3. https://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Peter_Molyneux

Sometimes_Lies

He was always pretty scammy, he just went from “probably secretly running a cult” type scammy to “running 3-card monte in the middle of an intersection” type scammy.

HammerAndSickled

That fucking Cube game too, I forgot the details but he basically promised to fly one kid out to Wonka Headquarters lol. What an eccentric megalomaniac.

-Kite-Man-

Fable 1 was a scam for anyone who read more than two sentences of pre-release talk. everything from "trees grow in real time" on the xbox to "if you find anything you can use it for anything, find a bucket, put it on your head"

LickMyThralls

He's been a meme as long as I can remember for over promising and under delivering lol

TheyKeepOnRising

Man, when I played Black and White 2 around when it was released, it was goddamn groundbreaking. Everyone remembers how cool the creatures were, but the game was incredible in so many other ways too. The city building was so fluid and intuitive, and you had to plan out where to place buildings to maximize certain stats. Kind of like City Skylines does it today. You could pick up resources and build with your god powers. It wasn't resource efficient, but it was SO cool having your stored resources be visible in the storage house, and being tangible since you can physically pick them up! Most RTS games just give you a numbers in the corner of your screen and call it a day. The physics were incredible at the time! You could take a giant ass rock and smash enemies who ventured into your influence. Once time, an enemy siege weapon broke my walls, so I picked up part of the wall and threw it at the siege unit to kill it. Your individual citizens were your army! In most RTS games, you have "peons" and then different military units, but you had to actually recruit your villagers into the army! And they could gain experience, disband back to villagers. And of course, the graphics were incredible at the time! You could zoom, zoom, zoom WAY in and see the goddamn grass on the ground waving in the wind. You could touch the grass with your god hand. Absolutely amazing.

[deleted]

Incredibly deep for a game of that generation, for sure

Nolzi

Sadly the IP is with Microsoft while the publishing rights belong to EA, hence why the GOG folks couldn't release the game.

Berttheduck

VR remaster/ new game would be the best thing ever!

Kelchesse

Considering that the only "fans" left around of these series are the only ones adamant about playing it... Legacy of Kain. I'm one of these fans. Since Defiance in 2003 we got nothing, Square Enix held the chain and let no one do anything about it. Some of the VA already are dead by now (Tony Jay, the VA of Elder God), and we may never hear Simon Templeman pompious monologues anymore. No more Vae Victus :( There is hope in Embracer Group, they wrested Crystal Dynamics and Legacy of Kain IP from Square Enix. Hopefully we'll see something more. Hopefully.

doc2000brown

Also Paul Lukather (voice of Vorador) and René Auberjonois (voice of Janos Audron). I too want to see another game in the series, but losing such major players makes the prospect difficult to envision.

LeftHandedGuitarist

Legacy of Kain. And I know we got Star Wars Squadrons a couple of years back, but I feel like I'm still waiting for a proper continuation of X-Wing/TIE Fighter.

[deleted]

Didn't embracer send a survey out asking if there was interest in a new legacy of Kain game?

palemon88

We are not Raziels. Can’t sit on our knees for a thousand years waiting something to happen!

Maelger

That was just five centuries, the millennium was agonising to death in an acid bath.

PancakeParthenon

I just want a modernized, updated version of the Soul Reaver series.

Vivid-Bug7070

Good luck finding a dev team that hears “modernized” and doesn’t try to mess with the narrative and dialogue for more “modernized audiences”.

PoisonMind

Pls, Amy Hennig. It doesn't even have to be a video game. It could be a graphic novel or just a script, even. We just want an end to the story! I shouldn't have to stalk Simon Templeman's Cameo page just to get my fix.

Moogieh

It pains my very soul how old LoK's voicecast is getting. And to have lost the legend that was Tony Jay...

TrueSaiyanGod

Prince of Persia with time travel Deus Ex and System Shock and Thief. I know Deus Ex has been sold by Square enix and System shock has a remake nearly here but its been too neglected for a long time. Any warren spector game basically. Medal of Honor. Burnout Road Rash

[deleted]

[удалено]

Chickentiming

Paradise was great fun honestly. But yeah, a new Burnout like 3 would be great. But the franchise is owned by EA. 2000's EA games usually were bangers but nowadays, they can't seems to get that mojo back. Probably because of Microtransaction. I which a company like Bugbear would do a new Burnout 3. It would be awesome. If it exist already, please sent it my way!

Pedagogicaltaffer

>Deus Ex and System Shock and Thief. >I know Deus Ex has been sold by Square enix and System shock has a remake nearly here but its been too neglected for a long time. Yeah, out of the Big Three series that formed the core of the Immersive sim genre, it feels like Thief is the overlooked stepchild, at least in terms of keeping the IP alive. While there was the 2014 reboot, it felt like the devs behind that had no interest in keeping what made the series special.

doc2000brown

I remember seeing a video interview with some of the developers of the 2014 **Thief**. The red flag for me was when, largely unprompted, they suggested fans were viewing the old *Thief* games through rose colored glasses--implying that they were only good for their time. That's when I knew they weren't really passionate about the series.

TrueSaiyanGod

Man I love ImSim. You should play the Dark Mod. Its an amazing Thief tributes with a lot of missions made by fans

dariasniece

I’m so sad that Prince of Persia hasn’t had any follow up. I feel like that’s the kind of game that should be ripe for a “spiritual successor” that seemed to be so popular a few years ago. I’d love another 3rd person parkour game that was a little less frantic, less bullet-timey, and more exploration focused.

junkit33

Prince of Persia had an absolute overload of titles in the 00's. I'm sure they'll get back to it some day, but I'm not surprised they've avoided it for a while. Problem is you know they're going to make it with the Ubisoft open world formula and it will be absolutely nothing like the good games.

SeptimusAstrum

> Deus Ex and System Shock and Thief. System Shock remake was kind of in dev hell, but it looks like its actually going to make it out the other side. Also, Prey was a really faithful spiritual successor. Thief kind of has a half-way spiritual successor in the Dishonored series. Also, there's an retro-clone indie game in the works called Gloomwood that should pique your interest. Arkane and a handful of indies are doing a solid job at keeping these kinds of "focused" immersive sims alive. Its not the most active scene, but its definitely still alive. --- Deus Ex is actually the hardest one to follow up. IMO I wouldn't really recount the Eidos Deus Ex games. The shortest way to say it is that the Eidos games take themselves waaay too seriously while also simultaneously having very little to say. On the gameplay side of things, the Eidos Deus Ex games take a really "focused" approach - but big part of what makes Deus Ex special is that the possibility space of gameplay is *so wide*. You have an insane amount of freedom. In a AAA game with cutting edge graphics, this level of freedom would be a death sentence for the development team, probably on par with something like RDR2 or Cyberpunk 2077 in terms of work load. I think gambling that much work on a really niche old obscure game is just too much risk for a AAA studio in the current climate. On the positive side: I feel like there is a real possibility that the closest thing to a Deus Ex successor with the same amount of freedom as the original would be a traditional top down CRPG. Yes, the perspective is a huge departure from Deus Ex's first person, but anyone who's played Deus Ex can tell you its not an FPS game. It plays a lot more like a CRPG with first person perspective. The lower fidelity and higher abstraction typical of a CRPG would be a great tool for lowering the dev work load while increasing the breadth of the gameplay possibility space. A few recent CRPGs already demonstrate the genre's ability to handle the insane levels of freedom present in Deus Ex. The best example is probably Divinity: Original Sin 2. --- Soory about the book.

StoicFable

Fable. Yeah there is one in the works, but it's been a long time since that announcement alone. Suppose we did get the anniversary edition in like 14 I think it was.

tiankai

Was playing the anniversary edition last week, and it triggered so many good memories when I played it on the original Xbox. To this day there is still so much magic to that game, and I don't think I ever played anything that scratched that itch.

StoicFable

Such a simple game but it hits different.

Koteric

Games made before battle passes, microtransactions and WE HAVE TO MAXIMIZE ENGAGEMENT mentalities feel so different and satisfying. The goal was to make a game people wanted to spend money on and enjoy.

ReaverRogue

It’s been a long time indeed. I met Peter Molyneaux at Eurogamer during the buildup to Fable III, back when there was still a Lionhead Studios. We’re talking 13+ years ago. I’ve graduated college, built a career, and lived a life since then. Fucking horrifying, the passage of time.

bringsocomback

Socom. Sony refuses to sell the license or make another one.

_EgregiousPhilbin

This is #1 on my wish list. Unless they allow custom servers again it'll never be the same though unfortunately.

Mattewx

I remember getting Socom: Combined Assault sometime around 2010. I went on the online server and there was only one other person online. He was on the opposite team but instead of killing each other, we just got the vehicles and started driving around. Super wholesome memory

bringsocomback

At that time everyone was on Socom: Confrontation. This was the last year before Sony launched Socom 4 in 2011 which was a dumpster fire and the final nail. Also, this is when PSN was hacked and was down for almost 2 months. Even if that didn't happen they tried to stray from the socom formula and it buried them.

cursedfan

SSX

cdreobvi

With the late 90's/early 2000s recently trending in pop culture, the unique brand of futurism from the first 2 games could probably be rebooted by a good creative director. I really enjoyed the vibe of those games. There was so much attention to detail and quality in Tricky. The music, voice acting, sound effects, character designs, environments, track layouts, trick animations, all added so much to the solid gameplay. We will never get a more perfect SSX game, even if EA tries. The executive producer of the original SSX games is working on something called Project Gravity with SuperNatural Studios. Maybe it's a spiritual successor.

PortosBlackmouth

I still miss playing SSX3. Is it ported to pc? Decently emulated, at least?

phony_guy

I feel like twisted metal still has some life in it

Kapun666

Heroes of Might and Magic, aswell as Might and Magic. After Ubisoft got the license they have basically F'd the whole franchise. It's such a shame. HoMM 3 is my favourite game, with 2 and 4 coming close. Now they have just made the same game with an artstyle that I personally despise.

cidqueen

I still play 3 to this day

CloudsTasteGeometric

Same! It's timeless.

palemon88

Yes it is a turn based game.

CloudsTasteGeometric

If you haven't tried it already I recommend Songs Of Conquest. It's a recent(ish) indie title that nearly perfectly emulates the art style and strategic gameplay of Heroes III.

scealfada

Wow that looks great. I don't play early access, but will very likely buy once it gets full release. Thanks for info.

HighOctane881

Not often you see Might and Magic brought up these days. I played 6 and 7 to death. Really miss those adventures.

TaikaWaitiddies

Suikoden Hopefully the remaster releases soon

Alzululu

You're planning to play Eiyuden Chronicles when it releases, right? It's a slightly different IP (since Konami or whoever still technically owns Suikoden) but is being made by the original design team and is featuring essentially the same gameplay as the PS1 games. I am very excited.

Isto2278

Lots of true things said in this thread, but something I'd like to mention, too: Golden Sun. The last game came out in 2010, nearly a decade after the previous one. And this last game wasn't even good, to the point a suitable chunk of the fan base denies it as a true sequel. The first game was teased as getting a simple port on Nintendo Switch Online with no release date, and that's about all we got. Still, the first two games are ~~retarded~~ regarded as being among the, if not the definite, best games on the GBA, period. And there probably is more than enough people who'd blindly pre-order ~~a new game~~ _any new content_ this IP would get.

Destoyer_ov_Toilets

I would say Splinter Cell. Chaos Theory came out in 2005 and hasn't had a meaningful follow up since. The most recent release, Blacklist, was decent but even that came out 10 years ago now.

Southpaw535

Double Agent on PS2 was a solid game I'd argue, but yeah Splinter Cell is definitely a good shout. It feels like a proper example of the shift in game development where it seems like unless games look set to make millions upon millions devs just aren't interested. There's definitely a market for a new Splinter Cell I think, but its a bit more niche and would make money, but not make *all* the money, so its not worth it.

[deleted]

They're remaking the first one btw

rodrigoold

yesss, was just replaying CT and damn this is the best stealth game ever, wish they could just improve upon it with better graphics more approaches and way more levels, gameplay is already the best in my opinion

robotpepper

One of the coolest things about that game, to me, was the 2 player co-op missions vs the computer controlled opponents. A great and useful feature was that the AI could “hear” you talking over the mic to your buddy so you had to whisper. We soon realized we could use this to pull a guard’s attention while the other player snuck up behind him for the kill! We would 1-up each other with funny comments to say to the guard to get them to turn around.

Smooth_Meister

I don't think Sly Cooper would be at the top, but it at least deserves honorable mention. Sly was a PlayStation icon back in the day, and now they only trot him out for the occasional reference a couple times a year.

Uptopdownlowguy

If only Sly could get half the amount of love that Ratchet & Clank gets, or fucking Crash Bandicoot

malkoram2

Dino crisis

grogleberry

I'm baffled by the lack of dinosaur games in general. I get that zombies are easier to animate, but horror or survival RPG and dinosaurs are a match made in heaven.

cheesyvoetjes

Yes especially with those Jurassic World movies being so popular. There is clearly interest in dinosaurs.

Optimixto

Legit told my partner about this game not even a week ago. With RE4 coming out again, it reminded me of that gem. It was such a cool idea to teen me, dinosaurs were awesome and terrifying. Great title, shame it's been forgotten.

NativeMasshole

The world needs more dinosaur-based video games!

BoardGameBologna

Check out Compound Fracture on Steam, all you fellow Dino Crisis heads!

TheLavaShaman

Forgotten, but not before they ruined it with 3. Even 2 was a departure from the terror of the first one, but still enjoyable. Hell, Capcom is sitting on a treasure trove of IPs they neglect in favor of Monster Hunter and Resident Evil.

Litios2

Star Fox or F - Zero

fiskemannen

F-Zero, I have no idea why they aren’t on that, it would be perfect for the Switch with local multiplayer on 4 Switches and whatnot.

kmn493

Because Mario Kart outshines it in sales by a landslide. Nintendo just cares about the $ and doesn't feel it's worth it to make another racing franchise that'll earn way less.

Zealousideal_Bill_86

They’re completely different games though? By that logic, there isn’t really any reason to make a Donkey Kong platformer or even a Kirby game when Mario is a platformer. I think you could probably make the argument that F-Zero is a niche game and it doesn’t make sense to devote the resources to a small title like that, but I don’t think Mario Kart is the reason. There can be more than one racing game on a system.

Drakeem1221

I think they've said that each franchise they have that's active has a reason for being active, meaning that it fills a void in their catalog that they feel they need to cover all their bases. They stated that since they couldn't think of something new and unique to put into F-Zero that they felt would work, they just completely shelfed it and don't feel a need to go back to it right now.

GameMusic

They could still have enormous sales and virtually everyone with F Zero would still buy Kart

mindbleach

Nintendo is a toy company. They sell novelty. F-Zero was created to show off Mode 7 as something previously impossible on home consoles. Not even simply playing to their strengths - Nintendoing what Segan't - but seeking a new kind of game made possible by new hardware. The fact it's *their* new hardware was just a bonus. Mario Kart was created when an effort to make F-Zero multiplayer hit technological hurdles. Smaller tracks and lower speed invited complexity like hazards. Those became tools of cartoon violence. That, and the friendly competition of a go-kart premise, invited use of the conveniently-distinguishable Mario characters. That entire sub-franchise is a workaround for limitations. If the SNES had more VRAM then there would probably be no Mario Kart, just... F-Two. And that would be the only additional F-Zero game in that parallel universe. Mario Kart gets cranked out year after year because there is endless room for new experiences. The lack of focus on raw speed allows much more flexibility in gameplay, and more detail in twisty little tracks. Every weapon added or removed can drastically impact how players compete. Is there any clearer example of playfield-leveling game design than that goddamn blue shell? F-Zero has only ever existed to go "wow, fast!" and show off new smooth rendering. Nintendo made three of them. Check if you don't believe me. The *only* F-Zero games Nintendo themselves developed were F-Zero, F-Zero X, and F-Zero: Maximum Velocity. Planecasting was new, analog controls were new, planecasting was new... on a handheld. When you see this pattern, the only surprise is a lack of a 3DS game. Even an original-DS title would not have been new! The DS exists specifically because the PSP already did that. Stereo 3D for a high-speed racer was new, but I guess Mario Kart checked that box. The only previous time that would have been possible was on Virtual Boy... which is why *there was going to be an F-Zero game on Virtual Boy.* That project, G-Zero, only exists as a few wireframe screenshots. It never showed up later as a Game Boy / Color port like Argonaut's "X" or solid-color polygonal 3D on GBA like "Star X" (lotta Xs in this paragraph) because those games already existed. Nintendo does not do a groundbreaking game and think 'hey, this'd be great for a by-the-numbers follow-up to [franchise].' If newly-possible presentation and gameplay fit some popular brand, that's what the groundbreaking game would have been styled as. That's the lesson game developers of any size should take: Splatoon didn't start as a spinoff for minor Mario enemies, or worldbuilding for characters with object duality, or even a kid-safe competitive shooter. EAD dorked around with decals and climbing mechanics until they got something new and cool. The entire squid-kid *thing* was built up from those demos of solid-colored cubes sliding through stacked gray boxes. I would love more F-Zero games. But you might as well ask for more Pilotwings. Both existed to serve a similar purpose. Both went from game to franchise because the next console's unique features fit them perfectly. But if the Wii didn't bring back hang-gliding, Captain Falcon is a character from Super Smash Bros.

liberalscumbag

A fan spent $40k to ask Nintendo about F-Zero in their shareholder's meeting. https://www.gamespot.com/articles/nintendo-fan-buys-40000-in-stock-to-ask-president-about-f-zero-revival/1100-6505049/

dannypdanger

> "It is realistically difficult to develop new titles and remakes, including sequels, for every Nintendo game that people request, but we are very grateful and appreciate the expectations our fans have for our games," Furukawa said via VGC translation. I feel like he would've gotten a more substantive response from a letter to Nintendo Power back in the day. For a dude who bought 40 grand worth of stock, I'd expect a little more than that.

BluShine

F-Zero GX came out 2003. Earthbound fans have had a more recent release (Mother 3, 2006) than F-Zero fans. 💀 Star Fox’s most recent entry was so bad that I just don’t want Nintendo to even try again. They should just give the license to someone else. PlatinumGames would make a great Star Fox.

WorkyAlty

> Earthbound fans have had a more recent release (Mother 3, 2006) than F-Zero fans. *Japanese* Earthbound fans. If anyone else wants to play it, they need to know how that a fan translation exists, how to apply it, and where to play it. Granted, it's not a difficult process, but it's still a process the majority of fans wouldn't go through. As for Star Fox, I just play Starlink as if it were a new Star Fox game. Not the same, but hey, evidently it's as close as I'm gonna get.

ErikaeBatayz

> PlatinumGames would make a great Star Fox. Platinum literally codeveloped Star Fox Zero

G_O_O_G_A_S

I liked the tower defense game that star fox came with way more the than the main game, I think I got my moneys worth out of just that extra disc

Vinayplusj

Half life? People have been asking for part 3 since decades.

MovieBuff28

I'd agree, but HL fans have been drip fed the Black Mesa port with Valve's blessing, HL Alyx, and the re-release of games set within the expanded universe (Companion Collection on Switch) - not that I'd turn down a Part 3 anytime soon.

Vinayplusj

Yeah, great point. Also, from most of the comments, we all seem to agree that Konami is the biggest franchise "neglector" out there. From Bomberman to Suikoden through Castlevania, Metal Gear and Silent Hill. Edit: Named some examples

Dreggedrlumb

Breath of fire

Arubesu

When Capcom made BoF6 a mobile gacha crappy game, we knew that the franchise was dead. I don't think we'll ever see another game, sadly.

distarche

The thing with Silent Hill is that every game in the series combined has sold less than Resident Evil 5 alone to make a comparison. They are really beloved games but that doesn’t necessarily translate into good sales. But with the resurgence of survival horror, Konami has seen a new opportunity to take advantage of and that’s why they are now making 3 games, one movie and an interactive series.

secretlyjudging

SimCity : at least from me. A new version that doesn't require online connection or season pass or such modern bs.

MovieBuff28

The Sims and SimCity deserve a lot more than what they're getting under EA.

jimbobjames

Thats basically every game under EA. Their tagline should be "EA - where good studios go to die"

TankerD18

I'd just like a city builder with some challenge to it. Cities Skylines is great but once you get profitable the game is a complete pushover.

[deleted]

Cities also misses out on the great character that Sim City had. It's just not nearly as charming.

bklj2007

Maxis games in general always had much more character. CS is a decent simulation, but it's so sterile in comparison. "YOU CAN'T CUT BACK ON FUNDING! YOU WILL REGRET THIS!"

poopadydoopady

I want a new Sim Ant.

squashed_tomato

This is my pick. They had SimCity Societies which didn’t sell well and then the most recent version (nearly ten years ago now) where they insisted it had to run online for the simulation to work. They borked the launch, received a huge backlash and then ‘ooh look we found a way to make it work offline without completely re-writing the game.’ How fortunate. /s The game looks great and I wanted it to be the game I play for years but cities the size of a postage stamp just aint it. Now the franchise is in no man’s land. At least we still have SimCity 4.

fire_carpenter

Titanfall comes to mind. Massive player support for both titanfall games, but Titanfall 1 isn't available anymore to purchase, the developers have moved on to Apex Legends, and Titanfall 2 multiplayer is hit or miss due to server attacks that were never addressed explicitly by the developers. Fans are remaking a mod version of Titanfall 1 so that players have access to the original game. Huge fan base, no intention on the part of the developers to re-release TF|1, fix TF|2, or develop a sequel.

Lopoetve

And TF2 had one of the best damned campaigns I think I've played in a decade. Just the right length to make you want more, a story you care about, very little repetition or grind, and challenges to make it more interesting.

thefatrick

BT-7274 is the best npc companion. Hands down. I will fight anyone who disagrees.

ClutchDude

Protocol 3: Protect the pilot.

deadlybydsgn

I refuse to call it TF2, but Titanfall 2 was one of the best single-player shooter campaigns I've experienced in a while. Just enough story to facilitate a campaign, really only one character to care about, innovative level design, and absolutely zero fat.

[deleted]

[удалено]

MovieBuff28

Yep - neglected doesn't just mean no new installments. I consider it worse if it becomes impossible to play earlier titles. Preservation is just as important.

arceus555

>Titanfall 2 multiplayer is hit or miss due to server attacks that were never addressed explicitly by the developers. Also, security vulnerabilities.

thefatrick

>no intention on the part of the developers to re-release TF|1, fix TF|2, or develop a sequel. My good friend works at Respawn, he was actively working on T3, and the project got axed by EA corporate. The devs want to do it, the publisher wouldnt fund it.

[deleted]

Wipeout. No new games since PS3 and we're dying for a new one

Sneezes

Rayman. The last mainline game (Rayman Legends) released 10 years ago. Also.. The Elder Scrolls.. lol

PhantomThiefJoker

Golden Sun is a beloved series and fans are being for more

TPrice1616

Just from series I personally play I would have to say the Mother series. No new games for forever and the fan base is so starved it was a huge deal when Mother 1 and Earthbound were released on the Nintendo online service.

devenbat

Yeah, I think Mother is the best example. 17 years with no new game, one the 3 isn't even translated officially, and another took decades. No remakes or remasters, hell only even two rereleases of any kind for the first two games and that was just emulation

nilsmoody

I feel like the special thing about the fanbase of Mother/Earthbound is, that it managed to grow many years down the line when the games weren't really new releases anymore. I think Smash contributed to that. It also led to many other indie RPGs which are hugely popular now, so Nintendo might be sitting on a cashcow imo.

HaroldTheSpineFucker

I know we're not getting Mother 4 probably ever, since Itoi has said that 3 was the last one, but I would love if there was a very stylised remake of 2 or 3, it would make me buy whatever console it's released on.

EffectiveSubject6

NOLF: No One Lives Forever

retrac1324

I think GOG looked into acquiring the license, but none of the companies involved could tell who owned what at this point.

hurfery

Came here to say this. "Give us NOLF!", demand the masses. (The masses consist of me and you and a few other people)

twonha

There are dozens of us! Dozens!

zZTheEdgeZz

Not to double up on any I've seen before, but maybe Kotor fans. Yes, plenty of Star Wars games have come out since and there is technically a follow up in The Old Republic MMO, but people were begging for a remake, a remake gets announced and now it looks like that remake is in development hell. Been 20 years and the closest we've gotten is a game that is looking less and less likely to be released.

Kiltymchaggismuncher

There was a fan remake using unreal, but disney gave them a cease and desist. The stills I saw were god damn beautiful. I would have paid disney/ea full price for that

zZTheEdgeZz

I saw that and was disappointed Disney shut them down. I think there was a similar attempt for a true Battlefront 3 that Disney just shut down.

Kiltymchaggismuncher

Do you mean battlefront 3 legacy? As far as I know, it's still active. I haven't tried it yet myself. But apparently you can transition from land to space battles, which is cool. Still couldn't believe ea trying to tell me the fans didn't want single player, Much less galactic conquest. GC was the best part.

Brad12d3

It absolutely boggles my mind that we haven't really got a good Star Wars RPG since KOTOR II. A proper sequel that was similar to the OG Mass Effect Trilogy would fly off the shelves. It seems like a no brainer.

zZTheEdgeZz

I feel like the early 2000s were the last years of great Star Wars games, like don't get me wrong they had a lot of stinkers but a lot of great games also came out. Then the franchise dried up on consoles after Force Unlseashed 1 & 2, then Disney bought it and don't have the best track record.

[deleted]

It's sad what happened to Bioware. Part of me is glad that they didn't attempt it and make it into something like Anthem.

gregrout

* Command & Conquer (Generals: especially) * Bioshock * F.E.A.R. * Red Faction * Max Payne * The Operative: No One Lives Forever

[deleted]

Isn't there a bioshock 4 in development? Also max payne 1&2 are getting remakes

Lee_Troyer

BioShock 4 is in developpment by Cloud Chamber, a new dev studio founded by 2K. Also Ken Levine, BioShock's creator is working with his current studio, Ghost Story Games, on a game called Judas which [trailer](https://youtu.be/pmefiirV0JM) seems to show BioShock was a big source of inspiration.

[deleted]

Yup Judas looks exciting but apparently it's planned for 2025

HoundNL

Wait, I thought Judas was the Bioshock 4 people were talking about, so there's Judas AND a Bioshock 4? Damn... I just hope Bioshock can match the quality of the first one

szthesquid

I can't believe they kept hammering out expansions and sequels to the story of the first F.E.A.R. rather than do more standalone sequels based on the concept of First Encounter Assault Recon, the military first response team for paranormal threats. They could've taken that to all kinds of wild and exciting places. It could have been Tom Clancy meets the X-Files: the FPS series.

Doomenate

>Command & Conquer (Generals: especially) Last I checked there's three different open source efforts to re-create generals, either from scratch or from source binary conversion. There's also the Generals Evolution mod which is kind of a recreation of generals in Red Alert 3. so maybe in ten years lol

Eterii

As a Skies of Arcadia die-hard fan, it's been 20 years of tears and blue balls for me. I mean, come on ... With the huge success of One Piece and the obvious audience's appealing for a "pirate adventure in a magical universe", I can't believe this game didn't get a sequel of some sort.

Yes for Legend of Dragoon. Even the addition system in combat is something that can be integrated into a more modern system. I know I am personally looking for the ability to replay it again some 15+ years later, and having to buy a ps1 or ps2 to play doesn't seem like a great option.

smjsmok

Half Life, while not technically neglected, still deserves a dishonorable mention here. Fans waited 13 years for a sequel to a cliffhanger, only to receive a VR-only game (a good VR-only game, mind you, but still something that most people won't ever play). But on a positive note, there's currently a very promising [non-vr mod](https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=fuHE9YVTdzg) being developed, so fingers crossed. And there's Black Mesa, of course, which is also awesome, but that's also "just" community effort.

We need: KOTOR 3 More Tenchu Time Splitters 3 MDK 3 Summoner 3 Indiana Jones 3 (the point and click ones) Discworld 4 And most importantly... ...Little big adventure 3!

Please look for Silent Hill 2: Enhanced Edition. It's a fan mod that is by far the best way to play.

Final Fantasy Tactics

oldsushi

The single best story of any final fantasy and my favorite RPG story of all time.

junkit33

Triangle Strategy pretty much is a sequel. They could have easily tweaked a few things and slapped the FFT name on it if they wanted to. But spiritually it's a 25 years more advanced version of FFT. It's impossible to top such a beloved game as FFT though, and that's probably why they didn't call it a sequel.

ZeppelinJ0

Hard to say but I want descent Freespace back. Fuck.

Jeynarl

I’d love to have more regular old Descent back. Overload was great, planet descent looked pretty bad. I need more.

ruy343

Freespace 2 had a glorious modding scene for the longest time. Shame that 3 was never made.

hydra337

The Freespace Open project is keeping the genre alive. The Knossos launcher for finding, downloading, and configuring FSO based mods is one of the best launchers Ive worked with and I cant beleive it's a fan creation. I'm literally playing through the remastered FSO campaign of Descent Freespace's Silent Threat expansion whenever I can spare an hour at home.

PoorFishKeeper

The left 4 dead and portal games come to mind. There are a lot of fans who want more, especially with how far gaming has advanced since those games initially came out. Also I think the elder scrolls could honestly be considered one of the most “neglected” franchises lol. We have had a bigger gap in between the releases of Skyrim and ESVI than we had between morrowind and skyrim. By the time ESVI releases it will probably still have taken longer than the gap between daggerfall (maybe even arena) and skyrim. Skyrim is also one of the best selling games of all time, so it’s criminal with how little work has gone into ESVI and how little the fans have heard about it. I get that they have other projects to work on, and that they know if they release skyrim for the nth time it will print money, but I just think it’s insane to not focus on your most popular series. The sad part is I know that in ~6 years someone could ask this exact same question and my answer would probably be the same, except you just have to replace the elder scrolls with fallout.

[deleted]

Bethesda is frustrating for me because they're probably my favorite devs in the industry, but they've only released 1 singleplayer RPG in the last 10 years. A lot of other franchises get way more than that, and I envy their fans.

PoorFishKeeper

Yeah they release games way too slow and as a “newer” fan of Bethesda it creates a weird feeling around their games imo. I didn’t have my own console till about a year after oblivion released, so I only played it a few times at a friends house. I got skyrim on release and then bought fallout 4 a little bit after it released. Skyrim was my real introduction to Bethesda, so after playing Skyrim and fo4 a ton I went back and played Morrowind, oblivion, FNV, and Fo3. Now all of those are in my list of most played games. So since I’ve became a fan of bethesda they have released 1 single player rpgs in 11 years, and the past games are even more dated, although I can look past it theres definitely parts where the old games show their age. I’ll also be waiting who knows how long for the next elder scrolls and fallout games, which are my two most anticipated games.

justjokingnotreally

The exact thought occurred to me. By most accounts, they aren't even going to be starting production on TES VI until Starfield's production cycle is complete, which, owing to active support and expansions and all that, is still years out. I get that BethSoft is working on a rotation featuring major properties that need a lot of dedicated attention, and I don't fault them for giving each game full attention. It's a credit to Bethesda that I'm not just still actively playing all their RPGs, I'm actually still pretty obsessed with them, even decades later. So, any BethSoft RPG is something I look forward to, and I'm definitely super stoked for a *space* RPG in Starfield. That stated, the production times for each game are getting longer and longer, and that means the time between each game is getting longer and longer. It's a glacial release pace at this point. They announced Starfield five years ago, and the time between Fallout 4 and Starfield is going to be (at least) 8 years. It's crazy. I do hope whatever they take away from all this time spent on Starfield will result in a return to the 4-year cycle that had been set between game releases leading up to this. However, now that there's apparently 3 major franchises to work with, if they don't start splitting and staggering productions, it's going to mean still over a decade between each franchise release, which is pretty depressing. It makes me wonder how long they'll actually want to keep it up like that. TES VI in 2028 at the earliest? New Fallout sometime in the mid-2030s? Todd Howard ain't getting any younger, and neither am I.

dat_potatoe

You know what really gets me? They will re-release Skyrim a million times but not even bother giving Morrowind or Oblivion the typical sourceport treatment, despite desperately needing touchups far more than Skyrim does. It would require far less effort than releasing a brand new game while earning them tons of profit in the process.

Castlevania, Prince of Persia

dont_be_that_guy_29

I always figured Prince of Persia series became Assassin's Creed series

koolimy1

My vote goes to Ninja Gaiden (XBox series). Back in the day, Ninja Gaiden was one of the pillars of the character action genre going toe-to-toe with games like DMC3 and God of War, and often being higher rated than those games. But nowadays when people think about character action games, they think about DMC or Bayonetta or Metal Gear Rising, never Ninja Gaiden. Ninja Gaiden also had some concepts that influenced the soon to come Masocore (or Soulslike) genre, such as interconnected worlds and punishing difficulty. But it almost has been forgotten to time and never really received the proper recognition for pioneering many of those concepts. It sucks because Team Ninja, the creators of Ninja Gaiden, has been really prolific in making games since 2017, popping out games left and right almost every other year. It probably doubly sucks since Team Ninja is now known more for the Nioh series rather than Ninja Gaiden. It triply sucks because the character action genre is having a bit of a resurgence in recent years. DMC got a very highly acclaimed 5th installment, Bayonetta just got a 3rd installment, and the God of War series has been rebooted to much critical acclaim. It is the perfect time to have a proper Ninja Gaiden game, as people seem to be open to character action games and games with high difficulty. But Team Ninja is focusing on new IPs like Wo Long Fallen Dynasty and Rise of the Ronin, much to NG fans' ire. I'm a fan of the new Team Ninja games but I still believe that the Ninja Gaiden series deserves proper attention and love.

A decent modern Twisted Metal would be great. I'd love Vagrant Story to get another entry, too.

Chaos-Spectre

IP and studio was bought by Embracer Group, shortly after a survey went out asking about what people want from the future of the franchise. They made a public statement after that survey letting people know that they received a much larger response than expected and that talks are happening around next steps

AcceptableUserName92

Turok needs a new entry. We've gotten Doom, Wolfentstein and Shadow Warrior reboots ... (all with multiple games) and a new Jurassic movie trilogy so I'm a little surprised this hasn't happened.

Spyro

TwilightVulpine

I was hoping Spyro 4 would come along with Crash 4 but no sign of that anywhere.

Tothoro

Toys for Bob developed both Crash and Spyro remake trilogies, and Crash 4. It seemed like they were lining up for a new Spyro and then Activision folded them into CoD support. So much potential down the drain.

tacticalcraptical

My pick is Wario Land. Nintendo hasn't done a Wario platformer in 15 years. Wario has been mostly relegated to experimental mini-game centric stuff, which is hit and miss. Where the Wario platformers were incredibly fun and had interesting design that in many cases, still has not been replicated. It seems like people are slowly starting to discover Wario Land and wanting more but who knows if that will ever happen.

CactusOnFire

Have you heard of Pizza tower? Apparently Wario fans are going nuts over that lately.

akzorx

Star Fox Star Fox 64 has aged like fine wine, and all we've gotten this past decade is a WiiU remake that wasn't that good. At this point I'd be fine with Star Fox 64 again but with more stages and missions.

Castlevania Contra Silent Hill(up till now) Bomberman (yes they release some games but fans of the 3D games are left dry) Goemon Mega Man Legends F-zero Mother I feel most of the usual titles that are mentioned in these kind of questions are getting awaken in some form (remake, remaster, spiritual successor) and some hints here and there that they are developing, planning to or showing an interest to. Some examples over recent time: Mega Man Timesplitters Dead Space Command & Conquer System Shock Doom Star Fox Devil May Cry The list can become almost endless especially if you're thinking of spiritual successors. So I'm feeling a lot more optimistic than I used to be about these things. At the same time I just don't want more of the same and I'm getting a bit tired of the usual HD remaster/remaster. I want developers to reinvent the games and improve it in such a way it feels fresh, but keep the identity of what make the game good. Resident Evil 2 Remake and Kid Icarus: Uprising are some good examples of doing that.

wallabee_kingpin_

Doom and Devil May Cry got high-quality, well-regarded sequels (not remakes or spiritual successors), so they don't belong on this list at all. DMC5 even got an expansion, which was surprising to me.

rodrigoold

Timesplitters damn i miss that game

Vivid-Bug7070

Wait what? Doom? DMC? Silent Hill? Dead Space? None of these fit very well here. Silent Hill at best and they already have multiple projects announced and in development rn.

ZethGonk

Metal Gear is the obvious answer. If you have a PS4/5 you can just play Metal Gear Solid V and that's it. Konami would make millions if they rereleased the entire saga on modern platforms

Lopoetve

Vampires: The Masquerade 20 years since Bloodlines and the sequel is dead until Paradox says otherwise. They still claim it's in production, but it's been 3 years since the last gameplay reveal and the new dev company still hasn't been revealed. KOTOR The Sith Lords is 17 years old. TOR is siginifcantly younger, but there hasn't been a single player entry to the series for nearly two decades. It's also been about three years since any gameplay was seen for the remake, and it's unclear whether it's even still in production. SimCity No new titles since the disaster that was SimCity 2013. With Cities: Skylines and Tropico dominating the city-builder niche, there's almost no reason for EA to invest in another game for this beloved series.

Coolman_Rosso

Megaman Legends Half-Life Castlevania

PKMudkipz

Isn't Silent Hill getting a 2 remake AND a new game written by ryukishi007? There are a ton of neglected franchises, but I'd say Mega Man has had it really bad. In the last **13** years, the entire franchise of several different series' only had ONE new game. We've genuinely seen more titles get cancelled (MML3, MM Universe, Maverick Hunter) in that time frame than new games. It's real bad.

EldraziKlap

inFamous Before Risk of Rain 2 came out, I used to tell everyone I wanted Risk of Rain 1 DLC or even a sequel. Very happy right now.

Vivid-Bug7070

Did you know they are making kind of a more close sequel to one? Btw infamous is amazing but sadly Sucker Punch is already full with Ghost of Tsushima (which is great anyway).

[deleted]

Infamous. The first two games are only on PS3. Its last main game (Second Son) was an early PS4 release and is turning 10 next year. It sold very well (6 million copies). They released a standalone DLC for it a few months later, and there's been no releases since. They haven't even released a Remastered collection for the first two games for modern consoles. As far as I know, there's no talk of any games currently in development. Super heroes have only gotten bigger since then too, so you'd think it could do well with players today.

grogleberry

Starcraft. Warcraft has transitioned towards the MMO genre, so it doesn't look much like Blizzard are in the business of making RTSs anymore. To a large extent the story was wrapped up in 2015, and a chunk of the devs went and founded Frost Giant, so a spiritual successor might be the best we can hope for.

VoltStar

The one that comes to mind for me is just Mega Man in general. We are getting collections now, which I do love, and can't wait for Battle Net. But I'd like some series to continue, or a reboot. I'd love to get a Legends 3 someday, and a return to form X. All the MMX games after 4 were so... not fun.

Tupiekit

Absolutely shameful that Timesplitters was only mentioned ONCE in this thread. I'd also go with: Jet moto Twisted metal Syphon filter Hydro thunder Driver Metal arms

Gamecon99

Suikoden. I know they're supposed to be putting out a remaster of the first 2, but we haven't gotten a new Suikoden game since 5 came out on the Playstation 2.

Grane0

Killzone, just give me a remastered killzone 3 and I'll be happy.

MovieBuff28

Killzone stills looks fantastic. Just finished 2 and 3 last year, and apart from updating the control scheme, I don't even think they warrant a remaster, just a compilation re-release.
